Placenta previa - 36 weeks and in hospital!

Hi, it's been suggested that I start a new thread on this!!! Am now 36 weeks preg and been in hospital since 34+4 after first bleed with pp. They aren't apparently massive bleeds by previa standards but still scary!!! First one came in from home via ambulance in middle of night, second was after an ultrasound whilst in hospital and third was the other night again whilst in hospital. Be interested to hear of other peoples experiences on this. It's so frightening isn't it! It's when it first starts to bleed that it's frightening, nit knowing how much. Staff in hospital are being really good, especially when I bleed.

Been told that they want mr to stay in hospital till c section at 39 weeks, however this depends on how much I bleed and how I and baby am. Reason for 39 is the clinical NICE guidelines for paediatrics.

Am so up and down emotionally, one min getting head round it, next crying loads. Have a little girl 4.5 years. Her delivery was fine. Had SPd then and still do have now but having the Bowen technique for that this time, privately with a midwife, and it seems to be helping the Spd a little.,

Any tips on how you coped with your pps. Find it so difficult at times. Thanks for all support xx

You seem a little happier today! Lovely to hear! And your right, in no time at all you'll be having those sore boobies and sleepless nights :) has your bleeding stopped?

deo357 · 09/08/2011 21:43

Still nil by mouth & still bleeding . Cmm what was the longest they kept u nil by mth for , this is the longest stretch of time I have bled for too. Feel quite rough for it actually ??

cmm · 10/08/2011 00:14

Hi deo, sounds like they're keeping you prepared in case of section is that right? How you feeling this evening? Has bleeding slowed? The injections I meant were steroid for baby lungs but also daily injections for anti clotting. Had them from each day in tummy then 7 days after going home too. Keep checking to see how you each day xx
Cn - pleased bf going better, we've been to baby massage today! Xx

That's next week !!!!!!! But. I will not get excited yet . Been. Waiting 3 hours for toast as they r busy, literally passing out from hunger !!! Ds4 crying himself to sleep every night at mo the poor boy !!! Wanting me home :-(. Hope u ok cn & not doing too much ????

deo357 · 10/08/2011 15:30

Things could b about to go from bad to worse. They r talking about transferring me to a London hospital now. About. 45 mins if lucky away from home. Apparently they do different techniques . The point is it will the be harder for the family to visit & friends & when baby is born it will b far away ??? Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Coppernoddle · 10/08/2011 17:02

OH no deo that's aweful!!! Have you been transferred? Is it for the better? I know not for family but better for baby! Oh those bloody riots!! Can't believe what people think they can get away with! There doing it up here in Manchester too! Poor little boy, ds4!!! Needs mummy at home now!! Fingers crossed for you deo, but even if they do, it will be better for baby and in the grand sceme of things, will be over in no time! It's all about baby now!
Bet you must be soooooo hungry! I'm a really good eater even though I don't seem to put weight on, can out eat hubby!! I'd be eating myself if they left me that long!you need your nutrients for baby and milk!! Big hugs deo x x x x
Cmm, baby massage sounds lovely! Every time I stroke Ewan's legs he goes into a trance and then about 5 minutes into it does the biggest poo!!! It's brilliant :) managed to have a wander round sainsbury's this afternoon with mil to pick up a few supplies! Was lovely to get out! To be honest, my arse is really hurting for sitting down so much!! Took the kids to the park too in the pouring rain, only stayed for about 10 mins but the fresh air was soooo needed!
Deo, why don't you write letters to each son everyday, something special for them to read everyday just from you! Maybe giving thrum a little picture of you they can keep near them might help a little! Won't be long and all this will be over! I couldn't imagine a 3lb' er! Ewan's 7 and he's a dot! We had to buy early baby clothes for him as nothing we had fitted him! But yours will be tiny deo! But a good weight for 30 weeks! And hopefully good lungs too! How long will he be in special care for? Or her? :)

Coppernoddle · 10/08/2011 17:07

Sorry, I've just realised after every sentence I put a ! :)

deo357 · 10/08/2011 21:13

Well confirmed I'm being transferred out in the am . So will c when I get there what the plan is. As if being in here isn't bad enough, now gonna b away with no visitors. Back on food now, few. Long day, feeling anxious about starting all over again with cons etc. Will update tomorrow.

Take it easy cn, u want everything to heal nicely!!!

cmm · 10/08/2011 21:42

Oh deo, so sorry to hear you're bring transferred, can't imagine, well kind if can with being in hosp but not away from people, the only thing to think is that like cn said they must think better for you and baby and your family need you and baby to be well and safe. Please keep us posted... We are all rooting for you and little one. Soon, although I know not soon enough, you will have little one, but the longer in there the better but they will always do what's best for you both. take care xx

Cn - sounds like you are doing so well bit like deo said hope your taking it easy too! Xx

Coppernoddle · 11/08/2011 11:42

How are you deo? Are you there yet? Bet you must be feeling pretty crap right now! I'm so sorry x just keep thinking it's for the best for you and baby and it will be short lived! It'll all be over soon x x big hugs today!

Coppernoddle · 11/08/2011 11:50

Cmm, I promise I am taking it easy, just little strolls or exercise to keep my joints loose, I don't have to do anything at home as mil is on top of everything! :)
Was going to ask another c section question; one side of the scar is nice and soft and one side feels very hard with a big lump behind the scar. And they've sewn loads of hair in the scar too, will they cause a problem with ingrown hair or not?

How are your hips today cmm? Bet it's nice to be driving again?

Deo, stay positive! Get some Alan partridge down loaded to your iPad and have a giggle! Don't know whether you can download mock the week, but it will take your mind off it for a little while! Defo do the letter thing now for sons now! X x x

deo357 · 11/08/2011 18:55

Hi, have been transferred. Can only b described as he'll on earth . In middle of London overlooking wormwood scrubs prison yard. In ward with babies crying. Had 2 horrid midwives telling me that they r gonna keep me here as long as poss & not hospital policy to deliver at 32 here. As u can imagine I am beside myself this Arvo. No service on phone , no phone , no tellys etc . Went out to call hubby and sat out 4 four hours sobbing. Hubby obviously got in car & came up. Honestly thought I was gonna discharge myself & go home. Hubby rang previous hospital & had a right go as know one here seems to know what's going on apparently new cons not in til Monday & I am 2 hang it out til then. I am so miserable girls can't c any light at the end of the tunnel. Hubby couldn't even come into hospital with me as no parking in central London so we sat in disabled bay in car 4 2 hours. :(

Coppernoddle · 11/08/2011 20:48

Oh deo! So sorry!! Oh what a nightmare your having!! Can't find anything to say that might make you feel better! Hopefully you'll speak to a nice midwife soon! Can you transfer yourself back? It's as if your rights have been taken away from you and you have no say in any of the matter!! I can't inagine what you must be going through right now! Hell, is well described! Can you get hubby to phone your hospital and take you back? Sounds like these people are barbaric! The only thing I can say is that while your in hospital your safe, so don't do anything silly until Monday when you can get in contact with your consultants on Monday, then you can kick ass!!! I'm guessing your at central middlesex park royal? Is the hospital got a better maternity unit then? Why did they transfer you? Oh deo, if I lived your end of the country I'd be straight there! Stay calm, get some rest, today has been very emotional for you! And I'll speak to you in the morning x x x x x x x x

deo357 · 11/08/2011 21:04

My hospital will take me back if I insist but they r saying that this hosp r equipped for my delivery. So putting my self at risk. I'm now at queen charlottes in hammersmith. I feel like I have been dumped really. They shouldn't have moved me til cons etc there for me. Who would have imagined all this would have happened. I feel completely defeated & empty right now. Can't hold it together at all. Which as I have said before is not me at all. Can't believe I am surronded by babies it's mixed ante & post natal ward???

cmm · 12/08/2011 05:26

Deo, I too can't find words to make you feel better. I know when I was in I felt bad enough but this is worse. Have you considered formal complaints immediately. Eg speaking to head midwife and if no further head of midwifery. You should be informed of decisions and treated with respect. If it is for your health you've been transferred they need to fully inform you. Also what you are going through Is a serious and rare complication and has a major impact on you and your family. You need to feel this is recognised.
Thinking of you all, keep us posted xxxx

Coppernoddle · 12/08/2011 14:40

So have you made a decision deo? What an aweful predicament to be in! And your right, they shouldn't of moved you till Monday when the con is there, what if something were to happen over the weekend, no one would be able to make descitions!! Was a mess!! And on top of all this, the stress it's putting on you and baby will be immense! What a cock up of someones feelings and potentially life! Really feel for you today!
Are they saying that there more equipped for prem baby or your operation? I can understand why they've done it, but why now? Why after all this time and careful management and then decide to change everything!doesn't make any sense!! Is hubby able to visit tonight? Hope he does!

Cmm, how are the hips? Getting out and about more now?

deo357 · 12/08/2011 16:49

So kicked up big time after being ignored for 24 hours. Got a consultant at 4pm this Arvo who was brilliant. Went thru the whole op with me, they specialise in acreeta here & basically long & short is. I can go home !! She said rarely do they operate immediately & there will be enough time to sort everything out . I will probably end up in and out, but she is happy 4 now for me to do that. They r not gonna deliver at 32 unless massive bleed & they will decide at 34 when. I will have to keep coming in to London for weekly checks etc & a specialised scan next week. So even to go home fora few days is worth it asi have been on the edge as u all know! Interestingly, my SPD has been a lot worse this last week it's all the sitting about I think so I can c how u ended up so bad cmm .

Coppernoddle · 12/08/2011 19:55

Oh that's fantastic news!!! You get the weekend with your family all to yourself! Really chuffed for you! I guess with acreeta they don't have to worry about the placenta coming away! Brilliant news! :) have a fab evening with hubby and boys!! Spd definitely made worse sitting around! Mine was the most painful after my c section when I'd sat there for over a day! Keep exercising lightly you keep them free! Yay!! Over the moon for you! And to be honest, the longer baby stays in, the less stress of early baby! X x x. X

Coppernoddle · 13/08/2011 17:28

Ell, no news is good news!!! Really hope deo your making the most of this weekend with your family! Enjoy every second of it!
Cmm, hope your enjoying the weekend too! Getting out while it's not raining is a must!
I had a lovely walk today and sat in the park with the girls and hubby eating ice creams! Bumping into friends, it's been lovely!
I had fish and chips last night with salt and vinegar and poor ewan has had a tummy ache all night, very vinegary poo's and trumps with enough enersher to take off! Poor little man! He's not stopped poling yet!
I went to bed at 8.30 last night, slept, fed, slept, fed.........got out of bed at 10.45 this morning! Felt great today, going to do the same tonight too!
Dd1 is starting to get very emotional now! Think it's not sunk in yet! She's extremely helpful but is crying at everything! A little bit cheeky too! So lots of cuddles and kisses for the girls! We've had a lovely playful day today! Hubby is now upstairs trying to dress them up ad rock band chicks!
X x x x x x enjoy Saturday night girls x x x

deo357 · 13/08/2011 19:13

So amazing to come home, we surprised the kids their faces were a picture!!! Did feel weary once home & had a nerve racking night paranoid something was gonna happen but made it thru. Hubby been working today so that was a shame but just nice 2 b around. Billion trillion things need doing but hey ho what can I do. Anyway just thought I'd update u both haven't even looked t the iPad since I've been home, I'll save it 4 my next visit !!!! Cxxxn

Coppernoddle · 14/08/2011 19:42

So glad your still hanging in there!! If you bleed again do you go back to your original hospital or the London one? At least this time you can be more prepared mentally and physically if it happens again!
Hope your enjoying this time! X x x sleep well x x x
