Wondering if anyone else is having a baby in Oxford this year (2011)? I am due in the summer and would love to meet other mothers-to-be who live around.

27th day before my due date so will have to play it by ear if she comes soon I'll join you xxx

Mamantra · 12/09/2011 13:33

Hi!
It was a pleasure to meet you all on last friday. Good company, good food and wonderful babies!
I hope I can do it this week again, if I am not giving birth!
Have a nice week,
Elsa (from Canada!)

PipCarrier · 12/09/2011 21:01

Just bumping for anyone interested in joining our toddler friendly meetup at Wyevale play centre on Tuesday 27th September at 11am

Lartichaut · 16/09/2011 12:32

Hi!
I went to the Wine cafe this morning, hoping to find expecting mums, but couldn't find anybody.
I thought it was an ongoing event so I showed up thinking that I would meet someone.
Am confused :)

Mamantra · 16/09/2011 14:36

Hi Lartichaut!
I saw on your profile that you are French. I am french-speaking too, from Montréal (Canada).

I am sorry that you found anyone today. I went to the meet-up last week only and they were a few nice mums to meet (around 12:30 more than around 11:00). Today, I was too busy.
I am expecting my second son in two weeks (!).

If you want to email me, we can chat and meet (we live in Summertown) : [email protected]
It will be great to meet you!
Bye!

EmGrounds · 16/09/2011 15:20

Hi, I went last week at 11 and noone was there, so I didn't go this week!! Hee hee, this is getting quite amusing!! I live on south parade in summertown too, so let me know if you want to meet up at all. My email address is [email protected] xxx

PenguinArmy · 16/09/2011 23:16

I made it along today and had a nice time. It's great talking to people again, I've been a bit on my own the last few weeks so thanks.

Did take me a while to ask whether the two people who could be MNers were and this was at 12. The coffee lady did say that someone else had asked about a meet-up but that you had left not long before. Maybe a secret code is required Wink

Lartichaut · 17/09/2011 11:58

yes, that was me! I'm glad your experience was good though! Maybe there is a secret code indeed :)
I've been alone at home here as well. Whereabouts are you? I'm in Osney Island, my email is [email protected]

MakesCakesWhenStressed · 19/09/2011 08:14

Just wanted to say that for anyone who is due in 2012 there's a separate thread for us and we've started doing meetups too, so if you want to head on over there too you'd be more than welcome :)

Link to 2012 thread

Jer79 · 19/09/2011 18:36

Yikes, no secret code, promise.

Due a little to the baby, and mostly due to in-laws staying, I've not made it up in a while myself. But see you on Friday at 11 (23rd Sept) if you are game for another go.

I'm really sorry people have come along and haven't been able to find us. The cafe seems to have got busier over the last couple of weeks and we haven't been able to get into the summer house, this probably makes us a little less easy to find.

As Jer says we'll be there this Friday. I can't promise I'll be there for 11am exactly, but usually make it by 11.30. (Since having a baby my ability to turn to places on time has gone completely out of the window!). Please don't be worried about coming and saying hello, I'm usually the one with a very dribbly baby in a sling looking at the cup of coffee in front me as if it's nectar!

PenguinArmy · 19/09/2011 20:27

people keep asking me where I live and I don't know Grin I think it counts as Temple Cowley (it's near the Templars shopping area)

I will try and make it again. DD naps are all over the place and with her being a 18month toddler we don't last long at sitting places, but it was reassuring to find out people are there for a few hours.

Less than 4 weeks until due date mind

SAHMHelen · 20/09/2011 21:15

Well my little one hasn't made an appearance yet but things looking good so don't think I will make the meetup next Tuesday but if in a couple of weeks anyone fancies doing ikidz at Kassam Oxford I would love to meet, with having 2 I need to think of places to go with both and meet some mums with things in common with me :-)

Spacey13 - still going well with the 2 x

EmGrounds · 21/09/2011 11:00

Will pop and say hello this Friday then. Won't be able to stay for long as my husband's sneaking out of work to take me to lunch for our anniversary. A really romantic meal with two screaming children!! How life has changed!! Emma x

owlbooty · 21/09/2011 17:54

Ello all :)

I had a emcs 5 weeks ago so haven't been able to get to the wine caff since then as I live south of the ringroad and even getting into town has been a faff - am intending to brave the 2 x bus rides on Friday to get there assuming the Owlet will behave himself. Fingers crossed!

Spacey13 · 21/09/2011 18:06

Hi SAHMHelen,

Hope you are managing to get some rest. My boys are being little stars and although life is non stop it's also loads of fun! Sort of hope your not there on Tuesday because your baby has arrived as this waiting bit is a bit nerve wracking isn't it! But if you do make it look forward to having a good chat!

Take care and can't wait to meet your new arrival!

Lartichaut · 22/09/2011 08:26

Great! I'll come tomorrow, looking forward to meeting you!

Lartichaut · 24/09/2011 19:37

It was lovely meeting you all yesterday. I had a lovely time with all those cute babies.
See you next week!

Jer79 · 25/09/2011 10:23

Hi Em, Penguin and L'artichaut, it was really great to meet you on Friday. I hope you had a lovely anniversary lunch Em. Meeting the toddlers was a treat, it made me quite excited for when my little baby grows up - you both make it seem very manageable and lovely having toddlers. Only 5 weeks L'artichaut, and you are so chilled and relaxed; I can't wait to meet baby artichoke.

Owl and Beetle - it was so nice hanging out again at SWC with you both, it had been way too long a gap for me.

See you all next week I hope.

Really sorry guys but won't make it along to Wyvale today. Been up all night with a poorly little boy:( Raging temperature and full of cold. Have a lovely time and hopefully I can try again next time.

SAHMHelen · 28/09/2011 15:21

chocolatehobnobs · 28/09/2011 16:57

Hello, I'm currently 35 + 4 and live between Stoke mandeville and JR - still haven't make up my mind for surewhich to go to although am booked in at SMH. I'm low risk and 1st baby so would ideally go for midwifery led unit (Spires) do any of you have any feedback from what JR was like?

PipCarrier · 30/09/2011 19:48

Hi chocolatehobnobs. Had my first at the Spires and it's amazing. Had the most perfect first birth. It's great up there, really clean, homely, not hospital like really. The MW's are wonderful too. They let my partner stay overnight with me in a private room with ensuite (didn't pay). The only reason I didn't go there for my second was that my first was quick and second time wasn't convinced I'd make it there in time (and I wouldn't as it turns out), so I had her at home. But my amazing first birth at the spires gave me the confidence to that. I can't recommend it highly enough.

PenguinArmy · 30/09/2011 21:54

post attempt two

thanks jer DD only had a marked head for 2 days following her run-in with the table. Am really enjoying the meet-ups and also browsing the shops afterwards.

someone mentioned maybe clubbing together for a order from Macys (in the US) to save on delivery. Don't know about their boy clothes but they have a good choice of non-pink (even a load of blue) stuff for females. Some come in pink and blue etc. so watch for the colour options at bottom left of picture. We generally had the first impression and carters brands. link

Also popped into the new book store and picked up a October program but I can't find it on their online site. They have free story time every day at 11 and 4 (was thinking of sending DH out with DD at the weekend). Will try and remember to bring the program with me next time.

I will be in the non MW part of the JR due to the 3rd degree tear I had with DD. (1in20 chance of it happening again). The consultant MW I saw today was absolutely lovely and gave me every confidence.

toomuchteaching · 01/10/2011 21:11

I was all geared up for The Spires but a midwife called in sick and I couldn't get in, well actually they offered to move me up at shift change when two midwives were on duty but I was in transition and didn't want to move! I might have put it a little less politely at the time.

But downstairs was absolutely fine, I had a great experience with fab 1:1 care.

Post-natally things were not so hot, and I was desperate to get out after being on a really unpleasant ward... but that was more about the other people in there!

I would recommend the JR, but also say I'd probably go wherever was closest. Are there any independent MLUs near you chocolate?

Good to get back on Friday and see old and new faces.
