New thread for us to chat about our little jekyll & hydes...

Danny is currently stood next to me rearranging my DVD collection - I will be doing a work out to charlie & lola tonight apparently, while DS1 will be watching Billy Blanks Taebo with his pre-bedtime cup of milk and DH's history docu is hiding out with Diego in the city of lost toys...

bumps Luke is the same, he is quite an aggressive little thing, especially to Jacob. He will just walk up to jacob and push him, and the moe upset jacob gets, the more Luke enjoys it.
he doesn't hit me or dp but he has pushed me a couple of times.
When he pushes Jacob, I tell him no. Jacob also tells him no and then I sit him on the sofa in a time out.
If he pushes me, I just walk away.

Luke's little tantrums are upsetting me a bit. When he is in a foul mood, he lets the world know (gets that from his mother) and cries and screams, but when I try to hug or comfort him, it seems to make him worse. He will struggle against me until I put him down and will flap around on the floor. I leave him and just try to talk/sing to him but he gets louder. Then he might hold his arms up to me signaling that he wants to be picked up, but if I do pick him up, again he gets worse and tries to push away from me.
It is quite upsetting to think I can't comfort and reassure him
I know they say that once a toddler reaches tantrum stage, they have lost the ability to reason in those minutes, but I just want to hug my baby when he is upset and let him know I love him and will look after him.

Anyway, Jacob has his E.N.T. appointment this afternoon. I'm hoping that they say I'm being silly and he is fine and won't need anything removed. We shall see though and we have already agreed to go along with whatever the specialist thiks is needed.

mumoverseas · 15/06/2010 08:31

hello all, just quickly checking in. Had two signing classes so far this morning and a private one (autistic boy) due in a few mins (if they turn up, have history of not turning up which is a pain!) and then a class this afternoon. Knackered already.

THOM good to see you back.

SM hope ENT appt goes ok.

katieblirdsnest · 15/06/2010 08:59

littlesez i was exactly as you describe with DP when we just had DD. she was at nursery and i did the pick up (as it was opposite my work) therefore i had no spontaneity in the evenings after work whereas dp was able to just pop out for a quick pint or whatever. whilst i didn't necessarily want to go out it felt really unbalanced and was also completely different to how we'd been before DD so it became a bit of an issue with me. now that we've got 2 he doesn't seem to want to pop for drinks so much and in any event i don't seem to feel resentful about it any more. partly because it's not the same anymore and partly because i've accepted the situation more. you should try and explain it to him if you can though, i always find my resentment builds if i keep it in, even if sometimes i sound a bit mad at least it's a shared madness!

SweetTalkinWoman · 15/06/2010 11:13

Hello Ladies!

Sorry you?ve been having a crap time again from work Dinky but good to hear that maybe Danny?s sleeping habits are improving. Sounds like he is getting over his ear infection nicely.

SM good luck with the ENT appointment and hope you get some constructive guidance etc. I was very impressed about the body sauce thing ? but relieved to hear sleep won the battle . How?s your course reading going?

It?s lovely catching up with what everyone?s been up to ? sounds like a busy weekend for you all?

We?ve also got a violent one in the form of Sam! He loves to smile, then go in for the killer slap. The worst one is when he grabs your bottom lip and pulls/twists it ? all accompanied by a cute giggle!

I?m a bit tired this morning ? was woken up by foxes at about 3am and remembered I?d left a bin bag outside the back door? Cue me in a fetching pyjama/marigolds combo collecting savaged nappies and other delightful stuff from around the back garden in the dark. Bleeeeuuuuurrrggggh! Couldn?t get back to sleep afterwards until about 6am ?.then the alarm went off?. Oh well, I?m leaving work at lunchtime today to take Sam to Kingston Hospital to see the dietician. Am expecting to have the Neocate changed to something cheaper, or maybe we?ll be advised to try soya milk? who knows!!!

I took the DC?s to nursery yesterday ? pulled up and there were balloons and a banner at the door, so I said ?How exciting, it?s someone?s birthday today!?. Then looked again and thought, hmm, looks like it says Orlena?. It did - they were a month early!!! Luckily we were the first there, so the display was quickly taken down and presents hidden until next month !!

Spotty - hope you all ok after the crash?

KBN/Littlesez ? I?ve been pretty resentful of DH and his obsession with 2 wheels activities outside the home but think I am now more accepting of them now that I?ve realised that I can also have some other interests (even if it is only running/hula hooping/getting my hair cut!) and that he?s capable of looking after the 2 DC?s. I think at the beginning I thought only I could do it and therefore I couldn?t possibly go out etc.. Am looking forward to 3 hours at the hairdressers on Saturday pm reading Hello!

KBN - when I left our local little Sainsbury's the other day I looked down and noticed Sam had taken a Red Bull Shot can off the shelf!!! Sounds like your DD knew she was wrong and agree best to downplay it. Bless her - does she love swans? It's all ducks in our house - Sam walks round with his ducks from the bath all day!

I?ve just noticed the time ? haven?t really done any work yet today and got to leave in a couple of hours . Catch you later....

SilveryMoon · 15/06/2010 11:45

STW That's very sweet of the nursery! Lucky orlena. lol that they got the month wrong.
good luck at hosp with Sam today.
The course is going well. I'm just about to finish the second session which is about understanding families in the past (have been looking at the victorians) and how what I have learned will effect my work with families. The final activity in this session is to research what it would be like to be a child in Victorian times and write up my findings in diary form.
Last night I did the myths and realities of family life in victorian times compared with modern life and focused on women.
Not entirely sure I managed to get to the conclusion they are looking for (I'm mainly tinking that things aren't always what they seem and no fast judgement can be made without better insight), but I can re-submit the unit tests as many times as I need to. I think I will def need to do that with the first one, but then I should be ok.
There are 8 sessions in a unit and I'm hoping to complete 1 session a fortnight (ish)..............There are 12 units in total.

SilveryMoon · 15/06/2010 17:39

The E.N.T guy said Jacob will need his tonsils and adenoids removed as soon as possible.
We told him about the number of infections and the snoring and he agreed they probably need to come out. Also, the glads below his ears are large even though he is not poorly right now.
He then looked in Jacob's mouth and said his tonsils were very big and need to come out.
because it's affecting his breathing, Jacob willneed to stay in overnight after the op.
We just now have to get the ok from the local health trust or something and they can book him in.

littlesez · 15/06/2010 18:58

SM I think even though your'll be worried about your little man when he has his op, he will benefit so much once its done. I did a few months working on an ENT ward as a student nurse and they usally do it as day surgery so rest assured that its a pretty simple op. (obviously they will be keeping him overnight but just for obs) does he like ice cream! you could tell him he can eat loads of that afterwards

Thanks KBN i know its common, everything changes so much doesnt it, before we could pretty much do whatever we wanted together or apart now its not as simple, although even harder for me!

BUMPS I think whenever I said no to izzy she would just laugh at me, its almost as if that change in tone of voice just made her laugh! cheeky madam. Anyway I just don't use no anymore. sometimes I say stop as she has learnt that from sing and sign. I use a high tone (same as horsey horsey dont you stop) it seems to actually make her stop for a minute because she stops to do the sign! sorry all of that is probably no use to you at all sounds silly but its my little tip anyway.
HI MOS hows everything?

STW naughty foxes!
Im not sure what the deal is with soya milk before age 2 but obviously dietician knows best, but you can buy oat milk fortified with calcium and vitamins. Izzy has that and likes it.

hula hooping sounds fun is that at a gym?

SilveryMoon · 15/06/2010 20:13

Thanks LS They did say that if the op time is early morning and he does well through the day, they might consider letting him home in the evening, but like you said, they'll possibly want to do obs because of his breathing.
I'm quite happy to go along with whatever they say. they are the experts. I did tell the consultant today that me and dp had already agreed to allow whatever they wanted to happen as it would be in Jacob's best interests.
I've never had tonsillitis. Dp used to get it alot and had his removed when he was about 8/9.

dinkystinky · 15/06/2010 20:44

Evening all. Sounds like you're enjoying your course so far SM - and that the system is working for J too. It will make a huge difference for him - and you - once he has his tonsils and adenoids out. SM - Danny tantrums for england too. He's perfected the back arch and banging back of his head onto the floor/door/wall - silly child. I now put my hand behind his head before I tell him not to do anything to stop him bashing his head when he throws the obligatory tantrum.

STW - those foxes sound v pesky. The nursery sounds sweet, if a little disorganised Hope went well with the dietician.

Sounds like you're keeping busy right up until you get on the plane MoS! Hope H is sleeping better.

Littlesez - sounds v cute they way you get Izzy to stop. I used to say no-no in a sing song voice to DS1 - he started saying it back at around 18 months Only shouting no, head shaking aggressively and physically removing Danny from whatever he's doing which he's not meant to be doing works with Danny though... Apparently he was taking on 10 year olds at the library today!

KBN - lol at your DD halfinching the swan. When we came to do a second viewing on our house, DS1 half inched a small iggle piggle toy that the little girl that lived her at the time was playing with - had to run back form the car with it to apologise.

katieblirdsnest · 15/06/2010 20:46

SM poor little man but it does sound like it will be so much better for him as he's suffered so much with his tonsils. get lots of books to read about going to hospital topsy and tim and the like and i'm sure he'll be fine...it will most likely be you that finds it hardest. and well done on pushing for this referral in the first place. you know when you know!

SilveryMoon · 15/06/2010 21:10

Thanks guys
They've said that one of us will be able to stay with him overnight, sowon't be too bad, although if Luke hasn't stopped the mega crying and major tantrums, me and dp will be arguing about who gets to stay with J! lol

Good idea re the books. I will do that.

dinky yes I am enjoying the course, am finding it very interesting but am taking today off from it. I've only done 3 days!

KBN Thanks for that. I'm quite relieved really, the consultant will write to my gp who thinks I'm a panicky OTT parent, but clearly not

dinkystinky · 15/06/2010 21:14

Ooh - the little princess I dont want to go to hospital book is a big hit in the dinky household SM. She ends up loving it there!

bumpsnowjustplump · 16/06/2010 11:18

you do not look rough at all littlesez, I wish i looked like that with no make up on

SilveryMoon · 16/06/2010 17:34

OMG. I've just had a call from surrey county council saying I have been short-listed for an interview! Fab, apart from I really don't think I applied for the job, or if I did I did it by mistake.
It's for a residential support worker at a hostel for the homeless near Woking.
Erm, not really sure what I think of that.
They want to see me next friday but I'll be on holiday so they are going to try to find another date and will get back in touch.

mumoverseas · 16/06/2010 18:46

hello all, just quickly popping in. Been manic the last few days. 4 Signing classes yesterday and today trying to finalise my assignment for my counselling course before I leave her in just under 12 days!

Just been out doing training for a female search team that we have started for carrying out searches on female visitors who come onto the compound. When we have functions in the clubhouses (bars!) we always get lots of visitors and often they have been carrying weapons. All the guys coming on used to pass stuff to the women to come on knowing they didn't get search so we are putting a stop to it. Being ex 'job' I'm a natural at doing it! Have a function tomorrow night so I'm on duty and we get paid a token amount (around 6 pounds ph) which is better than nothing. If nothing else, it will be nice to escape and do something a bit different.

SM looks like you are ploughing on with your course and good luck for the interview. Have confidence in yourself.

Hope your little man is ok with his op. Amongst the books I sell I have a collection of Little Princess books so I'll have a look and see if I have the hospital one if so I'll bring it back for you.

Right, have to go, househunting on rightmove x

SilveryMoon · 16/06/2010 19:35

Thanks mos Tha'd be nice re the book.
I wouldn't say ploughing through, I'm trying to do about 2 hours a day atm.

I hate bloody football, all our regular programs aren't on. I want to watch waterloo road
I'm left here now trying to pick out a dvd. Dp says it's my turn to pick a film to watch. I've just suggested 'He's just not that into you' which i bought ages ago and haven't seen and he says no, so it'll go likme this until there isn't anything left that doesn't star vin diesel.

mumoverseas · 16/06/2010 20:10

arse, just checked the little princess books and don't have the hospital one, sorry SM

SilveryMoon · 16/06/2010 20:24

No worries. Thank you for looking. I'll keep my eyes open for it in the shops.
Thanks again for checking though

swampster · 17/06/2010 00:04

Still here.

Real Life - it's good but time-consuming. Feel like I need a good dose of virtuality.

mumoverseas · 17/06/2010 05:52

Going to get DD2 her school uniform this morning for when she starts 'big school' in September

SilveryMoon · 17/06/2010 06:04

awwwwwww mos

Hi swampy Good to see you.

Horrid night last night. is a matchstick day today.

TulipsInTheSunshine · 17/06/2010 10:05

hello all, haven't forgotten ye

busy week, ds1's playschool trip was tuesday and today is sports day at the school so i need to run out in a few minutes and help out with the bbq.

will post properly later!

swampster · 17/06/2010 15:37

Real Life means I've been on this computer since soon after 9am and this is the first time I've been on MN!

I'm only working one day a week but it seems to be spilling over.

I have a hunky man on my roof. And a couple of not so hunky ones. Hopefully we'll have no more leaks and be a bit warmer this coming winter.

dinkystinky · 17/06/2010 17:17

Quick pop on - have seen Danny for ooh, about 40 minutes in the past 48 hours thanks to crappy work and going to be working all night again - great for a toddler with separation anxiety issues. Not. Grr. Sometimes I do not like my life.

Sounds like all are keeping v busy. Nice to see you on Swampster.

Uh oh, crappy work calls...
