Hello new thread

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
fillybuster · 30/06/2010 18:03

Congratulations Hollyoaks - glad to hear Grace is home and recovering well, hopefully you're getting over that scary start too

Gingeme......I am so impressed My turn now...2 and half stone to go...eek!!!

JKS - love the good news/bad news, esp as the bad news (H's climbing) is good news really...yes, i know it doesn't feel like that every time he gets stuck on the climbing frame, but looking back 6 months, wow, what amazing progress! Well done all of you Now, time to get going with #3....

MixedMama ...woohoo!!!! Need I say more?! Is DH happy?

Lily ... Sounds amazing...glad it was even better than expected....can I come with you next time you win a comp? I never win anything...

Ange/LaT - we're getting swings between T being perfect child and utterly vile...remember the poem "there was a little girl, who had a little curl"? Sums T up to a...T, at the moment. But at least she is being lovely to "Baby Mia", as she insists on calling her....

Lucky, hows things now Abigails getting a bit bigger? Any easier?

Not much to report here...you all remember what its like with a 1 week old, don't you? Actually, you probably don't, as it all gets very hazy due to huge sleep deprivation, but I don't want to scare LaT and MixedMama and put JKS off too badly, so I'll just say - its fine, but exhausting. And I desperately need more than 3 hours continuous sleep but know it will be a good few more weeks before that happens. Bfing is sort of going ok, but Mia seems incapable of feeding for more than 2-3 minutes without getting really horrendous wind, so out of an hour, I spend about 15 mins feeding her and about 45mins trying to get her to burp. Which is really frustrating...and even worse when she threw up the whole of 2 feeds today [grr]...sigh..."this too shall pass"

Actually, its fine, and things that would have worried me loads first time, and bothered me second time, now I find I just shrug and get on with it....

AngeChica · 30/06/2010 19:28

WST anyone have you heard from laT? She's gone quiet...

mixedmamameansbusiness · 01/07/2010 09:26

Ohhhh watching anxiously for news from LaT.

Filly - DH is actually really happy. I know we were trying but still. He is still very keen on hoping it will be a girl so I have to keep going over the "but a boy would be great" lines. I had DS1 at UCH Filly but have decided to go with Royal Free this time as they do ante natal appointments at home, so saves me dragging E around and they are my postnatal carers. Hope i have made the right decision as UCH was great last time and everyone sings its praises.

Told mum and dad and they were not that enthusiastic. They are great when kids are here but just are quite negative each time I tell them. My dad asked how many I actually plan on having, as if I have 8 and told him of no.9. Anyway it is out of the way and they were the ones that I was concerned about now they just have to get used to it.

JKS - echo what Filly said.

Hello all.

hollyoaks · 01/07/2010 10:37

Thanks to everyone for the kind messages, we're all doing well, just extremely busy and tired

Gingeme - congratulations on the weightloss.

LaT - hope your lo arrives sooner rather than later we'll have lots in common soon.

MMMB - I don't have a mn profile, do you have a fb group? Congratulations on your bfp too Slightly surprisingly.

JKS - she has about a 5cm scar to the right of her belly button but its healing well and will hopefully fade. What is H's scar from? GL for this month too.

Lucky - hope your feeling better

Lilyloo - sounds like a lovely weekend.

Ange - yeah I've been going to BIBS but its been very quiet so havent really met anyone yet, will try again today Is your dh a teacher, me too.

Filly - it's lovely when dd1 interacts with dd2 isn't it. Just watch out for her ramming dummies in and placing blankets over her head, all done out of love though

mixedmamameansbusiness · 01/07/2010 10:51

Hollyoaks... I think it is called Mumsnetters January 2008 on FB. Let us know when they are up so we can sauter on over and have a little look.

hollyoaks · 01/07/2010 11:59

simpson · 01/07/2010 12:43

Hollyoaks - so glad your DD is ok now

mixedmamameansbusiness · 01/07/2010 13:26

Hollyoaks I had a look but cannot see how to accept - I thought I could since we are all admins... anyway I think Ange is the lead admin so hopefully she will be able to sort you out access. Or you can friend request me and I can invite you to the group? Are you able to see the list of members... I am the one with first name Z and last name M.

JustKeepSwimming · 01/07/2010 13:38

Afternoon all, watching some tennis and catching up on here. We are viting for Pironkova

Filly - you sound happy and coping v well Have you tried infacol for the wind? have to give it a few days to kick in form memory.
And I am working on no3 honest still no news for this month...

LaT - hope things have happened and all is ok

Mixedm - about your parents reaction, at least your were prepared for it this time, but still would have been nice to have been surprised with them being happy instead.
How are you feeling, any sickness or anything?

Hollyoaks - that scar doesn't sound too bad though i bet she'll moan about it when she's a teen and wears bikinis
H had brain surgery in December to remove his right temporal lobe as it was causing a form of epilepsy called infantile spasms. it made his regress developmentally so he's about a 12-15month old now and doesn't talk, well not with actual words anyway, yet. You can prob see lots of photos once you're on FB.

Simps - right, here's what we did, no guarantees, and you may have to try and find out why she's scared.

  1. don't even try to put her in the bath and set yourself a timescale for that, say 2 weeks.
  2. just wash her down with a damp flannel either in the bedroom if she finds the bathroom scary, maybe building up to in the bathroom/next to the bath while it's running/full.
  3. get her to play with water in some other environment, not the bathroom. H liked the kitchen sink! or garden/paddling pool/etc.
  4. when she can tolerate being in the bathroom with water running/bath full, let her play with the water over the side, find some fave toys for this
  5. hopefully at this point she may decide to get in the bath, i would go for vvv shallow (& H liked it quite cool, similar to sink/paddling pool water) & don't push her to sit at all, just be happy for any non-crying time in the bath
  6. it just went from there with H and now he loves it again

3a) we were going to try but never needed to H playing in the bath but with no water, all fave toys, red teddy? anything just to associate happiness with bath

I know it will be trickier with M due to the poo issue too( about that btw) but should be worth it.

On the other hand T went through a bath-hating stage and it seemed to all be about getting out/getting cold/wanting to stay in longer.

News here:
Have moved H to a booster seat instead of his highchair and given him a plate or bowl, all going well so far

Discipline trouble with T at pre-sch again can't wait til he leaves there but can't decide if that's dodging the issue

willsurvivethis · 01/07/2010 18:56

I will leave LaT to break the news properly herself but I had a text with good news this morning

OP posts:
willsurvivethis · 01/07/2010 19:22

Oh Mixedmama just saw your news - brilliant

OP posts:
LuckySalem · 01/07/2010 19:57

Congrats LaT!!

gingeme · 01/07/2010 22:33

Hi ladies and thanks for the encouraging words ie weight loss feels so goos and the best thing is I have actualy bought a couple of dresses and a shortish skirt which I never ever wear unless ankle length
Congrats MM
Simpson I have the opposite problem. I can't get George out of the bath/shower without a big screaming match. He even gets in it with no water and fully clothed but thats simply because Edward showed him how to do that when they were playing hide and seek
Holloaks that must have been so scary. glad all is well now
I have got a kidney scan next week. Ive had terrible back pain and have had various swabs, urine tests, anti biotics and all have been fine so a scan is the next step. It all settld down for a while but seems to have flared up again now which is good for when they do the scan but not good cause it bloody hurts
Right enough moaning from me.
Night all xx

mixedmamameansbusiness · 02/07/2010 09:24

Thanx Gingeme and WST. I went to antenatal clubs to start a March 2011 thread and there were already 176 messages! Anyway have joint and they seem like a nice bunch.

Waiting anxiously for news from LaT then.

WST how was camping?

fillybuster · 02/07/2010 11:45

Nothing from LaT on FB....can't wait to hear

Very tired here...3 dcs turns out to be more work than 2 ! And Mia is very lovely but an absolute bloody pain in the arse to feed at night when she take about 1.5 hours to drink about 15 mins worth of milk It was another bad/windy night last night, but hopefully it will start getting better soon.

JKS - we've bought the infacol but its a bit soon to use it - she's only 9 days old. iirc, when we tried with A at this stage he choked so much on the infacol he would get really upset before the feed even started ...but will probably end up trying it before too long!

MixedMama - sorry, but I have to tell you that the Royal Free was an absolute nightmar when I had A there, and I've not heard anything better about it from all the friends who've had babies there over the past 4 years....can you go to the Whittington or something instead if UCH is too inconvenient? And I've heard good things about Barnet too, recently. Anyway, had to tell you...sorry!!

simpson · 02/07/2010 12:31

just coming on to see if there is any news from LaT....

Gingeme - well done on weight loss Am of your new wardrobe

Just trying to muster energy for keep fit class this afternoon!!!

willsurvivethis · 02/07/2010 13:14

I'm not sure LaT is even home yet as it only happened yesterday, plus she's irregular on FB - I'm sure she will post on here soon.

The camping trip was good, would have been even better if I slept a bit better but the days were fab and Nathan loved every minute. Pics on FB.

He was like a dirty little piglet every night and when you washed of the dirt you found a little pink (tanned) boy underneath!

The weather was so good we lived outside all week really.

Now to start work on Monday - eeek.

OP posts:
mixedmamameansbusiness · 02/07/2010 13:16

Hmmm Filly will give it some thought. UCH was brilliant so I have no real reason not to go there. ILs also live just across the road from UCH.

Will give it some thought... can always change if I dont like it, but antenatal appointments at home just seems so appealing, but there are bigger factors arent there.

TBH it will be between those two.

simpson · 02/07/2010 15:40

can I just have a proud moment???

J's teacher just asked to have a word with me at school pick up time today and said she was shocked when she found out his birthday (she is new, only being teaching J for 8wks) is 31st August as he is one of the best readers/writers in the class and its obvious I do a lot of stuff with him at home which is helping him no end

gingeme · 02/07/2010 20:37

Yey Simpson go to the top of the class and get your gold Mummy star
MM you could always have a home birth ?
WST sounds like you had a lovely trip bar the non sleep I can't wait for our holiday in August. A week in The New Forest in a caravan about 5 mins from the beach and country walks ah lovely. Not qouite Tenerife but hey. I'm even bidding on a tankini on Ebay for it
filly calm down love its only a baby lol. No seriously your doing a grand job. xx
Went to playgroup this morning and George tood up for himself today. There is another little boy there about the same age who is a little bully and his Mum is realy dopey to put it politely The little boy was pushing the other kids and generaly being a nuisance when he and George were on a little trampoline they have there. Well this lttle bugger boy pinched George so instead of crying he pinched him back. First there was a look of shock on the boys face then he cried to Mummy ha don't mess with my kids or you'll know about it !!!

Lilyloo · 02/07/2010 21:14

JKS great news on booster seat

Gingeme lol at George

Hi to everyone else

Am tentatively trying to potty rain M not sure as she only seems to know when she is doing it rather than before iyswim.
H holy communion this weekend so trying to organise barbecue for family and friends

LaTrucha · 02/07/2010 21:19

Baby Boy Timothy Daniel born 1st of July, weighing 8lb 11oz. All well. Story to come. All here chaotic as DH has V&D bug!

Got VBAC though! Found VERY QUICK labour hellish but very glad now.

LuckySalem · 02/07/2010 22:29

YEY LaT on your VBAC!!

hollyoaks · 03/07/2010 09:38

Morning all

LaT - congratulations on the birth of your ds and your vbac. The fun starts now, enjoy these first few days.

Simpson - dd1 suddenly became scared of sitting down in the bath for a short period. We didn't force her to do sit down as she got really stressed and tried to make sitting in the water a game until eventually she accepted it and she doesn't have a problem now. If there is a way in which you can make the bathroom fun for her you may get some success, but 2yo are very stubborn.

mixedmama - no, I can't see anyone's names. Hopefully Ange will be able to let me in.

JKS - poor H, I thought Grace's surgery was bad but I don't know how I would have coped with brain surgery. It sounds like H is doing well though and I assume his seizures have now stopped.

Gingeme - it's such a confidence boost to get new clothes when you've lost weight, enjoy your new short skirt.

WST - sounds like you had a nice camping trip, I also seem to end the day with a very dirty dd though I don't have camping as an excuse as to how she got in that state.

Simpson - A for effort with J, I bet that comment made it all the more worthwhile.

Lilyloo - gl with the potty training, we tried with dd1 a few months back but with little success. She can hold it in and knows when she needs to go but seems to have a fear of letting it go on the potty. We're going to leave it a few weeks and try again. Sorry, that sounded really negative and not what you need to hear before you attempt it . I'm sure it will go smoothly.

simpson · 03/07/2010 10:31

Yay for VBAC LaT [rin]

On the potty training front M knows when she needs to go (for a wee anyway) but totally refuses to sit on potty/toilet and insists on being changed whenever she has done a wee now which is most tiresome But not sure if she knows about poo yet as hers are "loose" to say the least!!

I think we need a shopping trip and I need to buy a bright pink potty and that might work

On the bath front she is happy now to go in bathroom but will not get in bath I tried last night getting in with her and she would have none of it. She is frightened of slipping She will also play with J but standing on floor while he is in bath iyswim but she must have a nappy on as otherwise I think she thinks I will plonk her in bath
