Hi all,

Just popping on here to update you quickly but I see JKS has already got me covered!!

Mia Rae arrived (finally...) on Tuesday afternoon - I'll post up my birth story (briefly, I promise!) on the ante/post natal thread tomorrow but basically she cut it fine but I managed to avoid the induction by a matter of hours....and...

...(for LaT, especially) - I never thought this would happen, but I had a really positive natural birth experience (despite it being quite a bit longer than ideal and Mia being a hell of lot bigger than the growth scans had suggested!!...), no epdidural, minimal tearing and basically it was as close to the 'great birth experience' I had always wanted but stopped hoping for as I could possibly have hoped

Thanks for all the support on here over the past week xxx

LaTrucha · 24/06/2010 20:42

Well, I posted on the other thread but I'll do it again. Yay Filly! Very pleased for you.

JKS - looks great. I'm thinking about lighting. Is that a lighting thing in the corner? I was thinking of lava lamp type thing but there's the 'grab' danger there. I have instructions for a similar thing (no light) made with baby oil and food colouring but I've never made it as never found a bottle of holder that I thought would be unopenable. I'll post it if you want. LED lights too as they don't get hot.

JustKeepSwimming · 24/06/2010 20:45

Yey Filly

Looking forward to full story!

LaT - i think lava lamps do get too hot. In the corner is a bubble tube that is on loan from Portage (play therapy), hopefully for as long as we want it. It would have to be a particular bottle to hold food colouring & oil in lol!!
I definitely need to get some lights of some sort, but i also then need to think about curtains as we only have v thin blinds in that room so it can't be made dark, hmm, have to think.

LaTrucha · 24/06/2010 21:52

Argos do a spotty blackout blind!

JustKeepSwimming · 25/06/2010 08:49

Thanks LaT - had a look, out of stock currently, will have to measure windows, think they are quite big - it's a bay.

No niggles this morning?

mixedmamameansbusiness · 25/06/2010 09:27

Good morning... what a loively sunny day... Filly hi and again brilliant news and so pleased you got as close to the birth you wanted as possible... I remember my induction clearly and very pleased you avoided that. LaT positive vibes for you > They are my vibes ahaha.

JKS - sensory corner an amazing idea, you are so creative. I took some inspriration form you and the boys have been making a card for my cousins daughter who moved to Oz for her birthday, I am so impatient with glitter and things though. Am going to have a think about sensory corner.

Is anybody else having issues with TV. I let the boys watch a little in the morning and if E hasnt watched any all day whilst S has been at school I let them watch a little whilst they have snack etc. Problem we are having is that S who is now 4.5 is starting to say Cbeebies is boring and he will only watch Mister Maker and the like but E still wants to watch. Problem is that S wants to watch Battle Force 5 and Ben 10. He has been into Ben 10 for ages, presumably from nursery as he had never seen it at home but recently he wants to start watching so we have allowed him to watch and episode of each as a treat if he has been aprticularly good that day. Issue for me is that I feel E is too young for them but he doesnt want to come and do something else with me he wants to stay with S. Do any of you with olders ones let them watch these? And if so how do you deal with the younger ones?

simpson · 25/06/2010 12:25

Hi all

Huge congrats to Filly & family

JKS - that spotty black out blind has been out of stock for ages as I wanted to buy it for J for his room about 3mths ago

Mixedmama - we have problems with TV here too. J is into Ben10, Tom & Jerry & Scooby Doo which M is not I don't really think she knows what goes on in the prgrammes so I don't worry about them being unsuitable as such, its just that she gets soooo bored and plays up begging for Peppa Pig, LazyTown etc...

TBH I normally put on a DVD or have sky + a load of programmes they both like to stop the fights. J gets to watch his programmes for 30 mins when M is in bed.

Programmes they both like are Humf, Ben & Holly, Charlie & Lola...

DVD hits are The Gruffalo (although I sky +ed it on Xmas day - you can now buy it, they watch at all the time) and Disney films, Little Red Riding Hood....

fillybuster · 25/06/2010 16:19

I'm pants at linking so have copied and pasted my birth story from the other thread here...sorry if its a bit...!! I've also stuck a couple of pics of Mia up on my profile if you're interested

Mia Rae finally arrived (under her own steam - yay grin!) on Tuesday afternoon, weighing in at 9lbs 3oz shock shock (which was a heck of a lot more than the growth scans had said!)

I never thought this would happen to me, but the whole thing was pretty amazing...

Induction on Monday was cancelled because of contractions that started on Sunday night - I stayed up most of the night with them but in the end they stopped by lunchtime so we re-set the induction for Tuesday morning. Tis time I was quite happy about it, especially as I was knackered from the previous night! Monday evening the contractions started again, but not strongly, and this time I ignored them and went to bed assuming they would disappear. Woke up at 4am and was cxing every 10 mins, dozing in-between, still convinced this was 'nothing'.

At 6 I was getting very uncomfortable so got up, and suddenly realised I was having proper cxs every 3-5 mins ! Phoned the hospital and agreed I would go into the birthing centre for assessment (please remember that my previous 2 labours nothing had progressed when this happened!) and then go for induction on the labour ward if necessary.

Woke dh up at 7 with the words "sorry sweetie, but I'm having contractions every 3 minutes and need to go to hospital" , got into the birthing centre at 8, straight into a beautiful, huge room with a pool with lovely mw...who checked me....and I was already 3-4cm

Had some co-dydramol (I'm allergic to opiates, so can't have pethidine anyway), walked around, bounced on the ball etc for a few hours and Mia turned the right way round At 12 I was around 5-6cm, so used the pool for a couple of hours (always wanted to do that, never thought I would get the chance ), was around 7-8 by 3pm, then everything got a bit slow, around the same point that I suddenly realised I was going to be doing the whole birth thing without an epidural....arrgh, panic!!

Then my amazing ante-natal midwife turned up to see how I was doing...none of her afternoon patients had turned up for clinic so she came along to help out. Perfect timing - she's the head mw in the birthing centre and Mia had got rather stuck. At 9cm after 1.5 frustrating hours she reached in and helped Mia over an internal ridge that was stopping progress and then suddenly everything happened really well. My waters finally broke with a vengeance all over dh and the 2 mws...

DH was absolutely amazing the whole way through, did loads of full-on back rubbing, lots of verbal support, generally brilliant

Only a tiny bit of tearing and Mia was out...

We spent a night in (due to muconium in the waters), but all is fine - we're now home and DS and DD seem quite impressed. Mia is feeding brilliantly, and my nipples are coping despite being a bit sore and a few blisters. I'm exhausted, but not in a bad way - the labour was very physical and mobile - but delighted to have finally had the sort of labour and delivery I always hoped for but had kind of given up on.

JustKeepSwimming · 25/06/2010 18:17

Awww Filly, how lovely
and such dark hair!

So so glad you got a better deal this time round, hope the tearing heals asap and nipples aren't too sore

Lilyloo · 25/06/2010 23:12

Filly she is beautiful and your birth story brought a tear to my eye hope you are getting lots of rest now

Can echo Simps , even H likes the same programmes , oh and fireman sam seems a hit with my 3 too !

Got my train tickets for tom , hotel looks lovely , all good other than dp grumbling about Sunday match

JustKeepSwimming · 26/06/2010 09:06

Lily - have such a fab time, sure DP will find the hotel bar to watch it, lol! (let him make the most of it, pretty sure it's the last match....!)

re tv - so far I've 'held back' T to keep them together, although that hasn't worked with H's regression anyway.
But T hasn't seen Ben 10, Power Rangers, Spongebob, other stuff that i consider a bit old just yet (he's 4). he does have some favourites that bore H, so we have them recorded and he watches them when H is napping, or when H is happy running around doing something else.
but they will both happily watch 64 Zoo Lane before bed

LaTrucha · 26/06/2010 21:41

Filly - you both look gorgeous in those photos. What a lovely head of hair she has!

I'm still here and waiting. DH extremely nervous and I'm beginning to think I'll be better off going it alone. I think I might start a thread on it to canvass opinions.

LaTrucha · 26/06/2010 21:45

Actually, I think I have just made my decsision. I'm going to do it on my own. More peace and quiet!

LaTrucha · 27/06/2010 13:05

DH is insisting he wants to be there. I might let him come to the hospital and take it from there.

LAst minute nerves all round, I guess.

fillybuster · 27/06/2010 15:14

LaT, if your DH wants to be there, I think you should probably let him...iirc, he was quite useful in the end last time, wasn't he?

We have the same thing with TV viewing here (not surprising, we've all got approx the same age spread, don't we?! ]) and A has decided that some stuff (like ITNG) is "babyish". Mainly that's copying comments from school, but I do accept its a bit young for him. He hasn't watched much Spongebob, Ben10 etc stuff yet (although we do now have various kids channels on sky) and doesn't really understand them when we've tried (and found Ben10 scary the one time he watched it ), but I agree that I wouldn't want T watching too much of the older stuff yet, especially she's far more of a telly addict than A.

At the moment we're also compromising with things like chuggington, zoo lane, driver dan etc which they both like and the occasionaly ITNG for T (she absolutely loves it, and basically never gets to watch it!) or something on a DVD for A. But I can definitely see this becoming more of an issue over the next year or so....

T is loving being a big sister and is being really great with "Baby Mia" (as she is now known!) but is also playing up a bit and being a bit more demanding...not really surprising I suppose . On the plus side, she has already figured out how to use her micro scooter (present from baby) and was scooting herself around the park this morning - I was quite as I thought it would take her ages She's hardly speedy gonzales but it was really surprising seeing her pushing along, then balancing with both feet and steering by herself

hollyoaks · 28/06/2010 10:03

Hi all

Sorry I haven't been on for a while, but the end of my pregnancy became really uncomfortable, I had an inflamed gall bladder which was really painful. I also worked up until 38 weeks in a really stressful and somewhat physical job and dd to run around after.

So went on maternity leave at 38 weeks and went into labour at 38+6 so no time to relax. DD2 was born after a fast 3 hour labour (at the Wansbeck again Angechica) which I strangely enjoyed. Grace Annabel was born on the 25th May, 6lb 11oz. However, part of her bowel was outside of her abdomen and in her cord so she was rushed to the local city hospital in a special ambulance with doctor and nurse where they pushed the bowel back in. We were admitted to a ward where I could stay with her but she failed to pass any meconium and began vomiting. After two days they did an x-ray and found that part of her colon was narrowed and blocked so they had to perform a second surgery to remove the blocked piece and join the two ends together.

Thankfully after a stressful week Grace was well enough to be discharged and has been bfding and pooing well since. Just found the time to catch up now as life is stressful with a nearly 5 week old and a 2yo. I will hopefully be able to stay active on the thread, fingers crossed, and will try to stay up to date with everyone else.

Filly - congratulations

gingeme · 28/06/2010 13:32

Well done Filly and Hollyoaks on the birth of your beautiful new daughters
re tele the boys watch a variety of tv here varying from Ben10 to Fifi to Driver Dan though ITNG they find a bit boring!! Theyre not great tele addicts though always in and out doing 'stuff' while its on
LaT why do you not want DH ta the birth? Who will be looking after Sabela?
Things have been busy here. DS1 was here for the week, he has finnished school now, and has been a bit helpful
DS3 has had his sports day and school fete last week. This week he has a talent evening on Friday. He his singing Ghostbusters
George is loving pre school. I was actualy asked if he was 3 on Friday because he is tall for his age.
I went out for a drink up for my cousins 40th Saturday night. Everyone complimanted me on my weight loss. 2lb away from 2 stone It was lovely to catch up with old friends and family. The Pimms was nice too lol.
DS2 is coming down on the 2 July for 3 weeks. Hopefuly he will be a bit more helpful than his older brother
Well off for my lunch now.

LaTrucha · 28/06/2010 13:35

Hollyoaks - what a start, poor little thing and you. I'm very glad to hear all is looking good. Congratulations on your lovely girl - and lovely name.

I'm due on Wednesday!

Who else on here has two and a half year age gap? I'm sure you are going to be asked for lots of advice!

Sabela is going through a phase of being super good when either I or DH is looking after her but if we are both together she is AWFUL! I can't quite work out why. DH is helping out a lot and the way she's behaving is actually helping, as I can legitimately say, 'Well, I'd better go and lie down then.' as my being there really doesn't help. Am also thinking it is very good for DH to manage her himself without me around. He still says 'No, no, no' then yes too many time though

mixedmamameansbusiness · 28/06/2010 15:53

Hi all,

Filly lovely birth story....I had S at UCH and used the pool and the MW were great.

Holloyoaks congrats on you little girl. At least it has all been sorted and you can all move forward... pics for profile????

Both absolutely lovely names. I love Mia but with our surname (those of you on FB) impossible... even Maya wouldnt work.

Thanks for all the TV bits.... S has agreed he can watch one hour of cartoon network per day and any other TV time will be DVD or E time. It is increible what they get ino without evn having watched anything.

A little news:

Period due today.... have done two preg tests and each had a feint line, the second more prominent so I think I am announcing we are expecting no. 3

LaTrucha · 28/06/2010 17:19

Hooray Mixedmama! Really pleased for you. You knwo they say no false positives, don't you?

No news to announce her though

JustKeepSwimming · 28/06/2010 18:32

Mixedmama - yey, congratulations!!! (when are you due, March-ish?) Hope I can join you soon.

LaT - hope something happens for you soon, and it all goes smoothly, sure DH will come into his own when it all kicks off

Filly - that's extra good for T using the scooter isn't it with her hypermobility? T loves his and goes really fast

Hollyoaks - Congratulations on baby Grace Hope you are getting over the shock at the start and that's the last time she scares you like that!! Does she have much of a scar? though being so young it should nearly fade I would think by adulthood. Always think H will turn into a skin'ead when he's older and try and convince the girls he survived a shark attack or something

Gingeme - you've done so well on the weight loss, and i bet you feel great when you get all the praise, i know i did.

Well we didn't time things well this month so pretty sure i won't be joining MM just yet but i'm already impatient
Been really lazy & knackered here today, hardly done anything, luckily both boys were chilled and mooched about.

Visited a montessori pre-sch for H to start at in sept hopefully this morning, was lovely
He should get SN funding from Sept & should be able to have our nanny as his one-to-one which keeps me happy, though i'm having to face the prospect of him actually going out without me...

right bathtime.

LuckySalem · 28/06/2010 20:11

Filly congrats on your great birth. I know Abigails birth was something I needed after the trauma of Aaliyahs.

Hollyoaks - congrats on the birth as well. Sounds like such a scary start and I'm glad she's getting better.

MM - CONGRATS

JKS - sorry to hear not this month, I'm sure it wont be long though

Sorry if i've forgotten anyone and hugs to you all.
Have a rough couple of weeks here, not coping at all so being a bit quiet. Sorry.

Speak to you all soon.

Lilyloo · 28/06/2010 20:29

Congrats MM !!!!

JKS fingers crossed then x

Gingeme wow 2 stone , that is excellent well done

LaT sending some labour vibes your way , i ahve 3 years between M and L and 2.9 between H and L.

Hollyoaks congrats hope the stressful memories are fading , Love the name that's L middle name.

Hi to everyone else

Had such a lovely weekend. The hotel was fab , we had two suites with fridges full of ribena much to dc's delight. The food and wine were complimentary much to my delight
The day at the farm was fab and we were given a lovely picnic hamper with about a weeks worth of food in We are now the proud owners of our own blackberry bush courtesy of the farmer so hope i don't kill it as we brought it back on the train. Thankfully England game was pretty naff as dp missed it due to train times.

AngeChica · 28/06/2010 21:48

Yey MM!!!

Glad all is well now with your DD Hollyoaks, I lost that thread about the poor lady whose DH and DS were burned but I saw that you were still around Well done with the BF.
Are you going to BIBS? lovely ladies there, I made lots of friends and I got some lovely photos done of DS when I used to go, one of them is a photographer and does v cheap sesions every so often.

well done Gingeme that's brill. I still have a very stubborn baby gut.

that all sounds v nice Lily.

LaT Alek is only naughty with me it seems, DH can control a class of hulking teenage boys a 2 year old presents no problem it seems. we were at the beach yesterday and A did a few "bolting" episodes which were really alarming, one towards a road, you know about my over-anxiety issues - back on the reins for him. Ashamed to say I put his ice lolly in the bin and took him home, but he was more upset at not being allowed to stay and watch the binmen empty some bins . LaT is it time to go for a drive over lots of speed bumps yet.

JustKeepSwimming · 29/06/2010 18:13

Lucky - sending some ((hugs)) your way xx

Lily - hotel sounds fab! So nice to hear that a prize really was good. So did you manage to eat everything or did you come home laden down

Ange - i have achieved my target weight and still have a baby belly guess i always will, though a friend told me to try Pilates as his wife lost all her baby tummy through that, so i figure i'll give it a go once i've finished!

Good news here: H discharged by the Physio & the OT teams
slightly less good news - he can climb up on the climbing frame in the garden by himself! Means he can get to quite a height off the ground with no way of getting down - as he's scared of the slide atm.
Ho hum.

Feeling very lazy here, had 2 afternoons of mooching about with tennis on, luckily boys seem happy enough
