had to do a new thread as the old one just wasn't pleasing my computer!

at not liking risotto. Maybe you've just never had a good one? I didn't think I would like it as I'm not usually keen on rice, but I am well and truly converted. Not least of all because they are so easy to make, they kids love them and you can ram them full of healthy vegetables.

Can't help on the sandpit thing I'm afraid. We still haven't bought one for our boys and they've been waiting about 6 years now. The ones we wanted were all too expensive and we didn't like any of the ones we could afford. They are most excited that we are going to get one for dd this summer. We are going for the biggest wooden one we can afford though, so that they can all get in there together and the boys can make up for lost time. Not sure how much sand they take either - a lot I reckon.

moosemama · 18/06/2010 12:12

I am lusting after Blue and White Striped Cornishware at the moment. Have been through this loop before though and decided its too collectable and expensive.

Would seriously love it on the open shelves in my kitchen and it would make me think of the seaside and holidays all the time.

treedelivery · 18/06/2010 12:27

See, we were supposed to have a built in one. There was a raised area outside the back old kitchen, we were going to pave it, but make a decking 'hatch' that lfeted up to reveal a 6ft by 4ft sandpit.
But actually when the old one was taken up it was obvious a level area was beter, so we lost the integrated sandpit idea

Think we'll go with a cheapo cheapo and replac each year, rather than store and clean the snails out Enviro-what??????????

You should have an integrated one!

Mothercare have free delivery, and there is a 10% code knocking about. So getting a little wheelbarrow and bubble machine, bubble mix and a baby trampoline. £50. Not bad really. Can't go to the shop as it's about 40 miles and I can't face the drive, plus 'm not free until Wed. They'll be delivered by then.

On the topic of rice, my secret weapon is Tilda microwave pouches. Both dd's love the butternut squash one, and the stir fry. They take 2 mins and are a Good Thing when the evening meal seems like everest. Salt content is high, butthey can go 3 days with zero intake tbh, so I let them off.
They are very lazy, but very effective.

moosemama · 18/06/2010 12:41

We were supposed to build one in a perfectly sized piece of ground alongside the patio, which is enclosed on all four sides by a concrete path. Dh dug it out about four years ago and it is still - well, a muddy hole in the ground really.

Loving the idea of 2 minute meals, unfortunately we don't have a microwave so all meals are full on cooking epics in this house. My fall back position on a can't be arsed to exhausted to cook night is either wholemeal pasta with garlic and basil passata or fruity faces - basically a load of fruit, tomatoes, carrot etc bunged on a plate with some mayo. I used to make it look like a face when they were little, but now they eat more there isn't room on the plate really. We still call it fruity faces though and the boys love it.

treedelivery · 18/06/2010 13:11

These can be stirred up in a pan, takes 2 mins.
Good if even the pasta runs out

Another paving related bill fro £180 just came in. Might hold back on the mothercare order

moosemama · 18/06/2010 13:36

Bummer. Maybe you could just buy them the bubble machine and juice? Ours keep my lot amused for hours.

treedelivery · 18/06/2010 13:46

Good idea. I'll see if Argos have any, as mothercare have stupid delivery charges and our ELC closed down. Pah.

Matalan - haven't tried there either.

H is asleep again. On me, but still. Am loving the 2 naps thing!

moosemama · 18/06/2010 14:04

I gave up trying to get dd to settle herself today as well.

She asked to go in the swing for a nap, then sat there and whinged, whilst repeatedly chucking her bunny, blanket and doll over the side. She looked ridiculously tired and was obviously exhausted, so after half and hour of whingeing I resorted to switching it on - she was asleep in 3 minutes and slept for almost 2 hours.

Good Evening all. Well, its 3am for you all right now and it can't too good if any of you are up at this time.

The sod got laid today. DH helped in the morning before heading to work and I finished. We now have a nice little lawn. Last night I watered the garden and my tomato plants and was shocked this morning to find that the damn deer have eaten the tomatoes and chives! WTF! The head gardener at DH's work said they are eating foods they normally wouldn't touch because they are seeing it more and more. I've declared WAR! DD helped lots today too, moving stuff around, throwing dirt and overall supervision, (lots of bitching.lol) Now she is knackered and so am I. Ordered in pizza and both of us have sleepy eyes. I think it is going to be an early night.

chefswife · 19/06/2010 07:22

Ah. So after getting dinner, bath and DD to bed, I went back out to water, water, water the grass and garden and generally clean up. Its spic&span out there now. Can't wait to see it in the morning. Had the monitor on while in the shower and noticed DD stirring lots and then went back to sleep. When I came out, I noticed I'd left the door unlocked! I went in to check on DD (yes, worse case scenario girl here) and she was there, but promptly put her head to let me know that she was in fact, not sleeping. She was up and down for about a half hour and then I asked her if she wanted some water. She sort of did a face thing, so I went and got her some water and that was what she wanted! She sucked it back like mad, let out a sigh of relief, rolled over and went to sleep. Love that we can communicate better. Anyhow, that was a long story for that. lol. I'm knackered. Off to bed now.

Have a marvelous Saturday everyone.

allshoppedout · 19/06/2010 10:06

morning

dog oh no for infection!! they r nasty

hi chef

chefswife · 19/06/2010 19:44

DD woke with a 101 temperature today. Well, actually she was running a bit of one last night when I went in to check her but I thought it was just her being hot, like she is. But at 2.30am, when she woke up, she was smokin' hot. She's never had a fever before and I don't think we came on contact with anyone with a fever although Uncle's GF is a nurse at the hospital working in orthopedics right now, so who knows. Not a lot illnesses there but someone could have come with a fever. DD doesn't have her vaccinations so I have to watch her. DH got a ride to work today in case I need to go to Emergency. She is just chilling out, sort of in and out of sleep. She ate almost all her breakfast, so that must be a good thing. And the temperature is slowly going down. Poor thing. At least she is quiet. [shamefully ing that she is not whiney.) Looks like I'll be popping in lots today. We aren't going to be doing much. Must somehow get out to RONA for DH's Father's Day pressie though... new BBQ. Its hard to save money for extra gifts when we are both so active in where money is spent from our entertainment fund. I've been putting away 'Mums latte money' and such.

chefswife · 19/06/2010 19:46

HEY!!! What are you ladies doing today. Its totally tumbleweed here. Your Saturdays are clearly far more exciting then mine. lol

moosemama · 19/06/2010 20:32

Hi Chef, no interesting Saturday here. Other than finally booking the ferry tickets for our holiday in August and dh washing the camper van. (Oh yes, we are all action at the weekends around here. )

I did manage to sneak in some baking this afternoon, as the boys wanted to make shortbread for dh's father's day present, but when push came to shove wanted to help wash the van more. So I made two large petticoat tails (large round shortbread biscuits) and carved a heart and one of the boys' names into each one. They've come out rather well actually, which is a big relief as I so didn't feel like baking today and did it in a rush whilst feeling very grumpy. They have both made him a little gift each as well and I have bought cards from them, as well as buying him a new mug from dd as I smashed his favourite mug by accident last week.

We will probably spend a good part of tomorrow visiting his Dad and my Step-Dad, but am hoping to fit in a nice trip out, even if its just for icecream or something.

Hope V is feeling better soon. As you said, eating is a good sign, so maybe its just a 24hr virus or something.

I had a rude letter from the NHS this morning about dd not having her vaccinations yet. I was as I have already discussed it with the hv, who said they get a list of people to follow up on if they don't get their dc's vaccinated. I told her my reasons for not getting it done yet and she said she was happy and had updated the records for me. So I was more than a little annoyed to be harangued by yet another NHS department about it as well.

On a lighter note, we have had the funniest display in our living room this evening. Dh, ds2 and dd 'doing the duck' a'la Boogie Beebies from this link it was so funny to watch them all doing it, I could hardly breathe for laughing. Well, dh was hilarious, ds2 and dd were just incredibly cute.

allshoppedout · 19/06/2010 21:31

treedelivery · 19/06/2010 22:31

Hi all. Been at work rather a lot this week. Sorry to have missed you all.

Only worked 12 to 8 today. Feet still totally killing me!

Dd1 had first proper ballet class today, she did ever so well bless her.

We have too many clothes for these girls. I bet dd1 has 30 tops

Couldn't get the sandpit, as I changed my Sunday shift to today as they were so short of staff. So poor dh is poorly off for fathers day, as I was meant to sort it all today!

Yum to shortbread. Yum.

treedelivery · 19/06/2010 22:54

Hope dd is feeling better chef. x

Hey tink

moosemama · 19/06/2010 22:57

Never mind Tree. At least you will be at home with him for fathers' day so you can pamper him a bit and let him choose how he would like to spend the day.

I still haven't wrapped dh's mug and realised half and hour ago that I forgot to get the boys to write his cards before they went to bed. Doh! I will have to offer make him breakfast in bed and get the boys to write them before we take it up to him.

Still haven't bought gifts for our dads either - although I do have cards for them both. They will both be getting a box of Thorntons bought on the way to their houses I'm afraid. I never used to be this disorganised, in fact I was known for being super organised. These days I feel like I simply don't have enough brain cells (or energy) left to remember anything relating to anyone that doesn't live in our house.

Lenni · 19/06/2010 23:49

Have To disappear for a while. I have another dog though and will be back sometime.

treedelivery · 19/06/2010 23:55

A black lab I believe Moose.

Hope all is well Lenni.

bedtime! I can't be bothered to go upstairs.

chefswife · 20/06/2010 07:32

MAN! I just wrote a big post and then laptop power went out! Well this is going to short.

Good Morning and Happy Father's Day to your LO's Daddy's.

DD's temperature is finally down now. We went to Emergency just to double check. After gritting my teeth at the admin lady about DD not having vacs, we saw a doctor right away. It was eerily quiet there today. She doesn't have any signs of throat, ears or chest issues, but will check at GP's on Monday if she is still hovering.

We got DH the BBQ and it was first $20 off then an extra 15% off because that was the deal they had there today. Even after taxes it still came under the original price, so bonus for me! We didn't get it together though but we will get a card made tomorrow before we take in blueberry pancakes and homemade sausages... DH made them. Anyhow...

Have a great day Ladies.

allshoppedout · 20/06/2010 09:30

missjackson · 20/06/2010 11:52

chef poor DD, glad her temp is down now.

Lenni is being crypic here and on fb, am I being dense? We will miss your posts anyway . Come back soon.

Happy Fathers Day all.... MM thanks to your post, I was inspired to bake a giant heart-shaped choc chip cookie last night for DH, with "DAD' carved into it in chocolate... you saved my bacon as I had no card for him. He loved it, yey! .

Had N's two cousins (aged nearly 4 and nearly 5) over last night for a sleepover, all good fun, but am knackered today. How anyone manages with 3 I have no idea. Dog? We need to see pic of your haircut actually.

Lovely and sunny here. N asleep since 10am, but we are supposed to be going off to some small breeds farm with friends soon, so he needs to wake up.
