had to do a new thread as the old one just wasn't pleasing my computer!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
moosemama · 19/05/2010 23:34

Lenni, you poor thing. Are you home now and able to see your GP?

Hope you get it sorted soon. A friend of mine had a similar thing a while ago and she was in such a lot of pain with it. She needed ABs to clear it up.

chefswife · 20/05/2010 06:58

OK... skimmed the thread so far... congrats to Pats friend. I'm loving the second round of babies happing here.
Um... Oh ya.. Dog Landlords can be such a pain in the ass. As soon as DD hit 22lbs, she was in a big seat. I was tired of hauling the car seat around.
moose Hope you feel better.

Tonight was fab. My two girlfriends, Jeans and Kel, came over and we ate pasta and drank rose and ate brownies and had a laugh and it was the best! DD was good too. Now for bed.

PatTheHammer · 20/05/2010 08:08

Lenni- get it checked asap. I had a nasty one when DD was 16mths old that needed surgery. I then got some weird kind of infection that ended up with hundreds of them, they thought MRSA at first but turned out to be a common staph infection cleared up by some nasal cream of all things! They are so bloody painful, and I cringe when i think of how it burst the first time all over the kitchen floor in front of DH.............yummy!

Moose- lovely piccie, sorry DD joined the sickness. Hope it passes soon.

MissJ- LOL at your ttc attempts. Sorry about not meeting today, hope we can make the 17th without complications! I am totally gonna weigh Zach today now, don't think he can beat N though

My morning of waiting in for the sky man starts now
Have a lovely day x

tinkhasaspringinherstep · 20/05/2010 11:21

mm - oh no poor u and rest of family must be stressful!!

Dog, that picture doesn't really look anything like dh. I didn't even recognise him in the slideshow. I'd looked at it a few times before he came home and said "wait a minute, isn't that me?", lol.

I love that hat too. If you pull the end it stands up in the air like a wizards hat or you can let it flop like wee-willie-winkie's hat. Perfect for festivals. Is also came with matching fleece dungarees and boots which she slept in inside her super-duper baby sleeping bag on Saturday night as it was -4 degrees overnight!

Well dd was sick, and sick and sick and sick and sick all through the night. She is reduced to bringing up yukky foamy stuff, now poor little mite.

I have made her a nest on the sofa as she has been sick all over her swing, her cot - several times (all the available bedding now used up) and our bed.

Unforutnately ds2 is in bed upstairs so I am run ragged up and downstairs between them.

Ds1 is a lot better though and is watching dd for me when I have to dash up to deal with ds2.

I wouldn't worry about what other people say about the carseat. So many people seem to be in a rush to have their little ones get bigger/grow up and seem to think moving up a car seat stage is some sort of rite of passage. I don't think many people even consider the weight/safety side of things.

Ds1 had night terrors when he was younger. They are really scary to witness. Such a relief to know they don't remember anything about it afterwards. We used to wake and resettle him before it happens as well and I do think it helped, but it didn't stop them completely. He still gets them occasionally, especially if he's ill or has been ill recently. He often sits up and speaks to me (usually total nonsense) in his sleep when I go in to kiss them before I go to bed as well and can never remember anything about it the next day. I think it happens more in 'cerebral/thinky' type children iykwim. Something to do with their brains having trouble shutting down for the night perhaps?

Uh-oh here we go again. Dd has just thrown up all over sofa now. I've run out of clean towels and bedding and it seems to be taking forever to wash and dry them, not to mention actually being able to leave dd long enough to get to the washing machine.

teaandcakeplease · 20/05/2010 15:37

I think my kids are coming down with chicken pox

The spots are growing on them both, there were a few yesterday on them both and I thought maybe an insect bite or something at the time, but they both have more today and are grumpy and hot. No idea where they could've caught it though. I don't want to be housebound for 6 - 7 days

moosemama · 20/05/2010 15:46

Oh no Tea, pull up a chair and join me in the plague house. ((hugs))

At one point today, I had ds2 throwing up and sobbing his heart out upstairs in his bed (all heard over the baby monitor) while dd woke up from sleeping on my chest and simultaneously threw up all over me and the sofa. Lovely!

We are all hunkered down in the living room together now, playing pass the sick bowl.

teaandcakeplease · 20/05/2010 16:07

I'm not medical minded at all but at my son's MMR jab the other day the nurse fouled up and half of it was splashed all over me. Does it contain the chicken pox virus? Is that what did it?

My two are watching Disney Tarzan full of piriton as they're both scratchy the scabs already. DS since this morning has developed about 10 on his face

They both slept for ages today too, so I "had" been quite lucky really...

Your poor DCs Moose, sicky bugs are horrid

What can I expect from chicken pox, what should I do?

teaandcakeplease · 20/05/2010 16:08

*scratching

PatTheHammer · 20/05/2010 16:34

Tea- The MMR jab does not contain the CPox virus, so don't worry there. they could have contracted it anytime in the last 10 days I think.

there are lots of recent veterans on here books, Lenni, Dog and someone else I think who will guide you with what to do. i seem to remember oatmeal baths and wearing gloves to bed when I was younger!

My friends DD had it the other week aged 20mths and it was VERY severe. She had anti-virals and all sorts and was very poorly with it. I think there are different strains of it and lots of kids are affected differently.

Have you had it? If not then its likely you will get it I'm sorry to say, hope not though.

You sound like you are doing the right thing with DVD's and piriton, the silver lining is that they both have it together I suppose.

Moose- you poor thing, I hate that foamy horrible sicky spit they produce, it breaks my heart to see DD wretching and producing it
Hope it is 48hrs for you guys and nothing more serious.

Dog- E has night terrors too, I hate it and you are right it can ocur from being unsettled. E had lots when we first moved here. I think starting school is preying on her mind too a she has started agin recently, about 1 a week. I hope they calm down soon, poor Bethy.

Well, Sky man came at 8am so I could have met MissJ today but a bit late to sort it in the end, sod's law! Instead we went to the City Farm in Gloucester with a friend and her 3 DC's. Lovely afternoon but spoilt somewhat by DD's incessent whingeing about an ice-cream. Some kid (who was with her mum who clearly knew that people who worked there) latched onto us, ate loads of our picnic and then proceeded to get an ice-cream and eat it in front of all our DCs. Obviously they all started banging on about wanting one. We took them off for a play and then came back and asked if we could buy one in the shop a bit later. they told us it was closed in the afternoons (despite the woman getting her DD one 30mins earlier).........cue a massive tantrum from DD and my friend's DD

She promptly fell asleep on the way home and then when I offered her a lolly from the freezer at home she had 3 licks and said 'don't want it'............bloody kids, who'd have'em

missjackson · 20/05/2010 16:50

Bummer pat, it's always the way. If we had planned to meet up, he wouldn't have turned up until 12.30pm. Did you get to weigh Z yet? I think him and Lenni's D are the only rivals for number one position of the Jan 09 Super Whopping Boys .

Bought N cute teva sandals in the camping shop today, and one of those little ladybird rucksacks with the lead - but it's pretty difficult to get him to walk down the street on it (heel! ) so I will probably stick to holding his hand.

Hot hot hot here. Nice morning at music group, and have spent the afternoon doing not very much at all, including a lovely nap with N at lunchtime. Have managed to buy the parcels for your nappies dog and tree, so I will post out tomorrow, I promise! I didn't have any packages the right size. These things always take me forever which is why I am no good at ebaying .

OH back tonight, yey! Totally missed our baby making chance for this month but am feeling very relaxed about it these days.

tree how is your egg doing? I forget when they are due! Exciting.

pat great news about your friend, bet you can't wait for a cuddle.

tea poor you, just think at least you are getting it out of the way now, and at least they both have it, not one after the other. Hope you get some good tips and good luck getting through the next week.

dog and pat I used to have those night terrors too. Don't remember them at all, but my Mum said it was always awful for them. But no lasting damage....

moosemama · 20/05/2010 17:06

Tea some info on Chicken Pox here. I seem to remember you can buy some sort of cream over the counter which is better than calamine at soothing the itching these days.

Try doing an advanced search on Mumsnet. There's bound to be a wealth of useful advice on here.

Pat, had to laugh at the "I don't want it" lolly incident. I had to practically force ds1 to eat a flipping Calippo earlier this week when we couldn't get his temp down. Ironic really when he spends half his life begging for one, even in the depths of winter.

MissJ, you know you can still get pregnant several days after ovulation don't you? May still be worth a try. That said, folklore has it that if you want a girl it needs to be before ovulation. (Seemed to work for us with dd so you never know, there could be something in it.) We weren't trying for a girl by the way, I just realised that's what had happened when I looked back at my chart. I found keeping a record on fertility friend really useful. I didn't make a big thing of it with loads of temperatures and observations etc, just kept the minimum records. Fertility Friend

teaandcakeplease · 20/05/2010 17:38

My boy is a whooper too. Was 9lbs 8oz at birth and it still on 98th centile every weigh in

I tried going in 10 minutes before usual night terror time for a while and stroking their back etc. Same sort of idea as yours. Heard people rave about those dream catchers too if it carries on. I didn't try one of those. Also prayed (but I would do being a bible basher ) Hope it gets better soon though

Thanks for link Moose

Hello everyone, have read but am too tired to do anything but nod, smile, and look sympathetic. So take which one you need

Some very poorly households though, am so sorry for all the poorly dc's.

Been to H's consultant today. waste of time and 3 hours round trip. Bah. Been in an hour and I need food. Will be back soon. x

treedelivery · 20/05/2010 20:32

Actually I can't be bothered going downstairs. The house looks like there was a party, and I can't face cleaning anad tdying.

Oooh OUCH DOg. Poor dd.

No worries MissJ. Bless you.

I seem to be down a nappy I bought one from our boards and it hasn't showed up. Have had one respose from seller, who I am sure I've seen around MN before, and that's it. I don't know what to do. Just loose the money I guess.
Then I lent someone nappies, never got them back, and forgot, but just got reminded.

Feeling glum tonight.

Get well soon all the poorly babes, Moose and DOg you must be sooooo tired.

I got lost in HUll today. t was horrid, I was drining around for 1.5 hours trying to find the hospital with H screaming n the back, and it was 22 degrees, and mugy. I ended up bursting into tears

We were late..and then I met the receptionist.

Her: Name?
Me: H Cavendish-Muller [or similar, like my made up name? ]

..........@@@@@tumbleweed@@@@@@@.......

Her: When is your appointment supposed to be?

Now that's what I said. I know her freaking name, I chose it. SO how likely am I to have got it wrong?

AM in a bad mood

moosemama · 20/05/2010 20:47

Tree what a bloody awful day you've had. ((hugs))

Do a quick run to the fridge and back without looking and grab the nicest thing in there.

Dog, poor Beth. Hope she's better soon.

Plague continues here. Ds2 still can't keep so much as a sip of water down after 48 hours and is really unhappy and tearful and dd stopped throwing up for a few hours and started with diarrhea, but then brought back her last bf and now has a raging temperature - again.

I am so not used to this. The boys usually throw up overnight and are then fine within 24 hours and dd has never been sick before (barring early reflux). We get chest infections, flu and pneumonia round here, basically anything respiratory - not gastroenteritis.

120 · 20/05/2010 20:58

xpost moose. poor dd. can you give her electrolites (sp?)

OP posts:
chefswife · 20/05/2010 21:00

Tree GRRR! I had a similar experience at the dentist the other... also had a thought and told the dentist that I thought it was funny that I pay the dentist to lecture me about importance of flossing and to have the hygienist jam my teeth with a sharp, metal object. lol.

Hope this makes you laugh...
My conversation with DH the other night about having sex. Remember, we are celebrating 20 years together this year.
Me; So, I gather you want sex?
DH; What gave you that impression? (laughing)
Me; You rubbed it up against me on your way out of the washroom. (laughing)
DH; (falling dramatically on the bed in a sigh) I think I need some pampering tonight.
Me; (laughing) Damn, I was hoping for a quicky. I really feel like a cup of tea.

Hope all the ill little ones get better soon. Poor things, and poor mommies too.

treedelivery · 20/05/2010 21:04

Blmey it isn't MRI day for HKZ is it?

Moose - sounds grim mate. Are they all weeing?

Dh brought me a ham sandwich. We're all in the bedroom in the dark. He's sat next to cot with his hand on H, revising on the notepad. He has GCSE biology in the morning! I'm sat in bed on laptop. Marriage made in heaven cyber space!

chef hope you got your cup of tea
tree ham sandwich sounds like just the job. Good luck for DH's gcse tomorrow, just sounds funny but am sure it's actually really difficult... eek, wouldn't want to sit exams now after all this time.
120 sleep well
mm thanks for ff link - I always know exactly when I ovulate because I wake up with one or two big fat zits on my chin the next day - great . Hope all the vom has stopped now.
tink wow, can't believe your dd1 is only one kg heavier than N! Very petite. N is already size 6 in shoes.
OH just called from the farm, he is on his way home. Yey! I have missed him sooooo much. Funny to think we have been together less than 3 years in total. (am amazed at your 20 years chef) We are like a couple of teenagers . Was remembering today the first time I drove to the farm for a riding weekend with my sister, listening to dolly parton, completely unaware I was driving towards my future. Anyway, tangent.....
