had to do a new thread as the old one just wasn't pleasing my computer!

Hi all.

Snoozing H-bomb on my chest so some lovely mn time DD1 is beyond tired and the colour of my wall ]off white] so am hoping dh will get her into bed pronto. He has GCSE chemistry in the morning and has the fear. He has never studied it, and the sum total of his revision has been 3 flicks through the book at about 11pm. OO-er!

Hey Moose. Yes, maybe on thinking about it I have had some pretty crappy times with the pushchair too. I only have to go 3 stops on the bus, so I probably never tune into the atmosphere. Our town is entirely populated by the retired, and the pissed on giro day by 10am. I've had a few doors slammed into the pushchair by the oldies who were brought up properly in the days when manners mattered .
There are 2 shops in our whole town with electric doors. Lots I never even try to get in. I'm pretty much limited to Matalan and M&S, both small branches. I can't manage Next, NewLook, WHSmiths or Debenhams with the pushchair. I can do Boots if motivated! That's all the chains we have, apart from Waterstones. I've also noticed that people cut across pushchairs, and unless you take really quick evasive action it obviously must be your fault as you ahve a pushchair. I've started to say 'It is possible you just weren't watching where you were going you know' when I get the glare. I'm fed up of being either invisable or a drain on society.

People in London were much nicer.

Horrible isn't it? Nasty attitudes. Wonder why older people are so acidic? ALL the older people I know are totally judgey and acidic.

Could you use sling and carry buggy for use in town?

On second thoughts lets just hide online and but lovely stuff. DD wore this this afternoon and looked a little squasher. SHe has had the runsx4. I dunno if she has the runs, or if she has got hold of some juce with movicol in, belonging to big sis GP's say teething, because obviously if a childs very head were to fall off it would be teething. Or the need to wean if a newborn.

Good you had positive school meeting Moose.

Chef - good for me to have more good reasons to stay away from gyms!

Maybe I should move to BC and be a midwife? Whne I looked into it [I had a Canadian bf and was thinking of moving over] everyone simply had to be a nurse, as it was a reduced role as an obstetric nurse. Apparently the idea of midwifery and non medical managed birth was blossoming though, back in 2000. Hope it continued to do so.

Can't remember anything else I read but hope the ms is ok HKZ. x

moosemama · 17/06/2010 19:02

That's what I did last time Tree. Wore dd in the Moby and carried the pushchair folded up. Was fine on the way there, but had to leave her in there on the way back because she was asleep and I had a stack of bags to carry. Its always easier on the way back though as I get on near the start of the route and it tends to be full of sixth formers who get off way before my stop. They are much nicer and more helpful than the older generations as well. Now I come to think of it, the bus is always full of grannies on the way there, but devoid of them on the way home. Weird.

Yes, lets hide and shop online until we go completely gaga and forget what real people look like.

Will you please stop showing me that Frugi stuff though. I am sooo tempted, but t'would be my birthday money I would be spending, as we are otherwise beyond broke.

Love the phrase 'little squasher' by the way, conjures up such a lovely image.

treedelivery · 17/06/2010 19:08

If it wasn't your birthday money I's tell you COLIN gets you 3 for 2. As it is, I won't .
Tryng to think where has a good sale at the mo......what you fancying? Shoes, clothes, jewellry? And how does one even spell jewelry?

Go to notonhighstreet and do a bit of perving.

Taxi back from town? What would that cost? Be worth it for a nice experience. I always think small things like an extra fiver on a taxi are so worth it. We wouldn't hesitate to hand £5 to school or to some afterschool activity for something so worthwhile for the dc's. It is only the price of 2 coffees, but makes all the dfference.

I have no idea how I managed dd1 with no sling. What did I do????

treedelivery · 17/06/2010 19:11

I want this

Can't help feeling a bit glum that this time last year I had acres of mat leave left, and I was in a pale blue campervan staying near Padstow, on a playfarm.

moosemama · 17/06/2010 19:41

Sorry, got distracted by the 'school making unreasonable demands' thread in 'most active'. Its really kicking off over there, and all a lot of fuss about nowt.

To be honest, I so rarely have money of my own that I'm afraid to spend any of it. I'm positive that as soon as I spend it, I'll see something frivilous that I would love but no longer have the cash for. [daft bat emoticon]

Notonthehighstreet is a good suggestion though. Might also have a mooch around Folksy.

That's skirt is stunning.

Don't be glum. Look to the future with dh teaching and you either doing much more sociable hours or on maternity leave again. Have you read your 'aims' to yourself/your angels recently?

treedelivery · 17/06/2010 19:49

Oooo I was like that with those John Lewis vouchers. Finally bought those keepsake frames.
I still have the £100 white company one sat there. I just like to look at it

God, imagne if the givt. just got the budget numbers wrong and put teachers pay up, after making uni education free, and dh got a job for....say....£35k with no uni debts, then I would never have to work another shift, miss another CHristmas, party, assembly.......that would be ace.

Off to look at thread

moosemama · 17/06/2010 19:56

That's the spirit.

Am off to eat my volcanically hot oven baked omelette, frittata.

Thanks for that Books - in theory DD doesn't watch television, not at home anyway but the odd bit of Peppa Pig is creeping in, that sounds like a good enough reason for me to stop that. She watches DVDs on long car journeys and since most things are a fair distance that is quite regularly, perhaps every other day she'll watch an hour of a DVD in the car. Other than that TV is banned in this house until after the DCs bedtime, but Peppa is used for emergency meal cooking when they just won't let me cook without hanging on to my legs. DD's terrors seem to always happen the week after DH has been away for work. She is a real Daddy's girl and seems to get anxious after he has been away.

I love the head shaking and nodding they do at this age. It is absolutely the cutest thing, I ask DS yes/no questions all the time to try and get him to do his full bow style nods and "yessssssss". I want him to stay this cute forever

Lenni · 17/06/2010 21:31

Funny you saying about mooing horses too - I have been desperately trying to convince DS that his eyes/ears/mouth/nose are all different things. He would always point to his ears if I asked where any of those bits were, but this week it seemed to click, perhaps they are in a new sorting development phase or something. Another cute thing he has been doing now we have nice weather and no vests is walking round showing complete strangers, friends and relatives his belly. He points at it proudly (and the thing is enormous) and says 'mine tum' so now everyone tries to get him to show them his tummy, OK I'll go bore someone else with my baby tales now.

chefswife · 17/06/2010 21:40

Had to post this: WHY HAVING A TODDLER IS LIKE BEING AT A FRAT PARTY

Am I a bad mommy for letting DD figure out how to get the last piece of bread out of the bread bag and munch on it sporadically over the course of an hour, occasionally putting it back in the bag and wrapping it back up. I think sometimes its OK to let go them go at it, whatever keeps them busy.

All the M&S's closed in Canada except the one in Toronto (I think). Any nearby me are closed. Boo hoo. I really liked it. There is an H&M in Vancouver. Best men's t-shirts for cost.

Sod finally comes today, sometime between 4 and 6. Guess what I'll be doing first thing tomorrow. Guess what I'm doing today; NOTHING!

moosemama · 17/06/2010 21:46

Dd's absolute favourite word is 'no' at the moment. For ages every animal we saw said "eeow" but now we do have "meow", "quack" "woof" and "baa" for the appropriate animals. Makes a pleasant change as when ds2 was asked what dogs said he used to do heavy breathing/panting. Our dogs hardly ever bark and he'd only ever heard them panting.

Books, ds1's teacher has only been back off sick leave for less than a full term, so is only just getting to know the class. Just in time for the Summer holidays. Plus she has obviously just started to cram in the support he should have been getting on his IEP before his review date and as a result has actually 'noticed' him iyswim. As I said, we are not holding our breath.

I have a nice big Bravissimo voucher as well as all my birthday money. Am saving it until I've lost some weight and my boobs have settled down after finishing bf.

No sympathy for my poor finger then folks? It reaaally hurts and is all black and swollen. Amazing how many times a day you use your ring finger without realising it (typing on MN for example). Have now strapped it to my little finger in an attempt to remind myself to stop bending and using it all the flippin time.

moosemama · 17/06/2010 21:50

Nooo Lenni, share more stories. I can't get enough of this stage, they are just so cute. Ds2 and dd were playing so beautifully together this afternoon with dd in fits of really infectious laughing, it actually brought a tear to my eye. I'm such a sap.

treedelivery · 17/06/2010 22:04

OOOO sorry Moose, forgot to say Hope finger gets much better soon.

Lovely 'mine tum' lenni. Cutey.

moosemama · 17/06/2010 22:16

Thanks Tree

treedelivery · 17/06/2010 22:40

It;s taken since 18:55 to get H into a proper sleep. She's been asleep 3 times on our knee, but woken up.

I'ma bit fed up really. Now I have to dash to supermarket as I've remembered dd1 [forgotton about due to dd2] is on pack luch and we have zero in.

Oh for a child that sleeps! Poor dh trying to revise, he's tired out after week of leaving house at 5.20, and I had 4 hr sleep. Nice!

chefswife · 18/06/2010 01:42

MOOSE!!!!! Oh you poor dear, your finger! Must be awful it being all black and blue and hard to type. lol. I'm trying to be cheeky but I think its lost when you type. lol. Really though, I do feel for you.

DD does 'eow' for cat and growls for dog, says juice pretty clearly now, Daisy is very clear, as in Upsy Daisy; pretty, dirty and bana for banana. She's been saying something else the last few days over and over and gets so frustrated because for the life of me and DH, we can't figure it out. Its a full sentence for sure.

At swimming today, DD figured out how the kicking works and makes you go forward. I put her arms over a pool noodle and hold above her and off she goes! She's jumping into the pool to me as well without me holding her hands. She has no fear. Most of the lifeguards know her, as we've been going once a week since about 6 weeks old, and they were impressed too.

Tree How I hate nights like that.

As a side gripe; at the pool this morning I was surprised how many girls, 7-9, that come to swimming at 10am in the morning in their pj's! I mean, really. Lazy? Yes, I would say so. Not that the moms are really any better, but come on, its a little ridiculous. Is it really that much of a hassle? I can understand maybe a young kid who still needs help dressing and its hard sometimes to get out of the house for swimming lessons on time, but a kid that can dress themselves, should be dressed when they go out.

missjackson · 18/06/2010 09:25

Amazing that kids turn up in their pjs to the pool - doesn't happen here, ever, but I have to say I sort of admire the logic... chef DD's swimming antics sound really cool. We have hardly been swimming since our water-babies lessons when DS was about 7-8 months, but always loves it when we do. Off to the beach today so hopefully he will get some sea swimming!

Had a fab time with pat yesterday - puzzlewood is very cool, with lord of the rings style rock formations, caverns, crevices, moss, and twisty little paths that the DCs had great fun exploring. Just the hint of fairies kept E entertained... There was also an indoor maze and a willow maze, and a lovely sandpit, and little ponies and goats. No buggies allowed as the paths are too rocky and up and down, so I felt very grown up with a proper child rather than a baby iyswim .

So, anyone up for a slimbridge meetup? It's just off the M5. Or a camping trip to the forest of dean? I know it's hard with people working these days or hugely pregnant.

tree 4 hours sleep ouch. Good luck DH for today's exams. Can't believe you have to schlep to town to get that parcel - I think you should visit a nice shop or two to make the trip worthwhile.

MM ouch, poor finger! Bus sounds dreadful - I would stick to the internet and never leave the house.

Lenni 'mine tum' too, toooooo cute! N has various words but doesn't put them together like that. books funny, my DS thinks that cows go 'click click' like horses do. And goats, and anything else with hooves, in fact.

So last night 120 I made impromptu arancini (risotto balls) with my leftover butternut and mascarpone risotto, and they were yummy. I simply rolled little balls of risotto in seasoned polenta, and flattened them a bit, and fried them. They went very nicely with a cold beer! Polenta is brilliant for frying, sort of crunchier than breadcrumbs, and I didn't fanny around with egg and flour etc because the risotto was sticky enough already.

Had better get up and get my beach face on . Have a fun day everyone.

allshoppedout · 18/06/2010 09:34

morning friday faces

hi mm - i am a spendaholic as i guess you all know!!

i have just bought on amazon - 4 textured board books for dd2,watch for me and jls cd

off for food shop with dd2 in a min

treedelivery · 18/06/2010 10:22

Yay Friday faces. am woking tomorrow face. Only 12 till 8 which is a bg treat. Will have to make up 4 hours on a day off.

dd2 collapsed on my chest, she is feeling tired today. Hope she sleeps, this is my only proper day off this week so I really need some space. I also need to use that space to clean the house, when what I want to do is chill.Oh well.

treedelivery · 18/06/2010 10:22

How's the finger Moose?

moosemama · 18/06/2010 10:45

Morning folks

Finger is a little better this morning. Took arnica and smothered it in arnica cream as well as taking bufren last night and its really worked, still really painful, but slightly less swollen and a lot less bruised looking. Gotta love that arnic stuff.

Tree, hope you get some peace and space today.

MissJ, arancini sounds lovely. I've had it on my list to make for ages, but never seem to get around to it. There's never any risotto left over in this house, despite my always making a massive pan-ful. Love butternut risotto. In fact we had butternut and spinach risotto last Friday when our friend came to stay. He didn't like the sound of it (picky only child syndrome - right pita to feed generally) but ate it all and then asked for seconds, so I think he's a convert.

Dd was having a cuddle this morning and starting wildly gesticulating at the fridge going "toot toot!". I couldn't get what she meant at all, until I realised ds2's Thomas the Tank magnets are on the fridge door. She got so exasperated that she got off my lap and fetched one of her little wooden trains, shoved it in my face and said "TOOT! TOOT!" It would appear I am too slow for my children these days - must be old age!

treedelivery · 18/06/2010 11:03

Aww. They reallt are developing aren't they.

H slept for 20 mins. No wonder I'm not as nice a person as I used to be

On the plus side she did a new thing too. Dd1 has a puppy in my pocket thing where the little gits puppes are stored in a box under plastic. Dd2 is most put out as she can't get to them, she hasn't mastered the catch [yet]. Today she pretended to pick them out of their little houses and pretended to give them too me. I went all wibbly at her little fingers pinched shut. SHe laughed her head off when I pretended to take them off her. Bless.

Clearly this happened beofere 8am as there has been no laughing allowed post 8am. She glares at me if I so much as use a sing-song voice. Moody nappy.

You remind me Moose, dd1 fell on way to school. A Big Accident of Enormous Illness and Consequence. A Very Big Deal. There was much face crumpling and heaving of chest.

But yes, we need more arnica. Could do with it in bubble bath tbh, then way her legs bruise.

I don't like risotto

treedelivery · 18/06/2010 11:22

Asleep again. Yay. Resisting urge to go to sleep myself.

Am trying to buy a sandpit here
