Morning.

Dh has been badly neglected as I webnt back to bed at 10 and slept till 3.30!!! I was really tired!

Was going to take us all to the chinese for a meal, but it's getting late and I think dd would be too tired for school if we left it later then 6 or so. She is in bed at 7.

Long day tomorrow, I hope I sleep tonight, after today's mega nap.

Evening all

We had a hopeless morning traipsing to FIL and DSF's houses to deliver fathers' day presents, only to find neither of them were home. This meant we were limited as to what we could do today and dh wanted a family day out.

After being in the camper for two and a half hours and still being up the road from our house we nearly gave up, but instead ended up changing our intial plans and finally managed to get to a local castle at about 2.30. Had a nice little picnic then the boys had a fantastic time exploring all the towers and cellars etc. Topped the day off with ice-creams, then home for baths and bed ready for school tomorrow.

MissJ, glad my dh liked his cookie. Dh also loved his shortbread and shared one with the boys for breakfast (we did do porridge afterwards though). I often do home baking for valentines day as well. Dh loves it, as it means he gets to each a whole batch of baking to himself - unless he's feeling particularly generous.

Tree, good to hear you have finally managed to get some sleep.

Dog, you are so brave. I have twice put my hair in a ponytail ready to do the mn cut over the past couple of months, but then chickened out both times. I did give myself a fringe for the first time in years though and was quite happy with that.

Chef, glad dd's temp is under control. Hope she's fully recovered soon.

Good Monday Morning! yells from the hilltop

Poor DH. First he had to sleep on the couch last night because DD slept in our bed; better for me to keep an eye on her all night. Then he didn't get to crawl into bed when we usually get up, 7, because DD and I slept in till 9! Then he came in and we laid around in bed and laughed. Then he made breakfast, I went out to the car to get the BBQ, still in box, and while he put it together after breakfast DD and I did a big Dad picture. For dinner we had big steaks. Mmm, summertime.

morning tink, or are you ASO now? Think I'll stick to tink, if that's ok! Sounds like you were very organised with your gifts yesterday. DP got an hour extra in bed and that was it!

It is interesting just how quiet the thread is at the mo. Just goes to show how much work the little brutes darlings are at the mo. H is literally ordering me about 'walk. this way' and getting very angry if I don't comply, to the extent he will try and grab my face and twist it. He also prefers not to spend time with anyone else if he can at all avoid it. He is gorgeous otherwise but driving me nuts!

Morning Chef and Tink

Have weighed myself this morning ready for my diet eat healthier and exercise more plan.

I am going to have to work really hard if I'm going to get into a nice dress for that wedding in 8 1/2 weeks time. Twas most unpleasant looking at the numbers on my scales this morning. The only upside was that, despite all my birthday food, cakes and chocolate, I haven't put any weight on, which was a relief as I felt sure I must've gained half a stone.

Beautiful sunshine here again. Walked to the greengrocers after the school run, only to find they were closed so almost fell at the first post, but fortunately managed to get a heap of salad and fruit at the local co-op instead. I would have walked to the next village, but have to wait in for the gp to call me about ds1's test results this morning. Will try and walk there tomorrow though as its a good 3-4 mile round trip and dd can go on the swings and slide half way.

Bought myself a pair of White Stuff jeans last week as my favourite pair finally went through at the knee when I knelt down to change dd's nappy. (No-one ever tells you that being a Mum is hard on the knees do they.) They arrived on Saturday and are lovely and sooo comfortable. I sized up though, as am fed up of squeezing into my smaller sized ones and feeling uncomfortable and fat all day. I will definitely be buying the next size down when I've lost the weight.

Nice surprise last night. Our closest friend text to say he has ordered us some Christie Moore tickets for his show in Nottingham in November. I seriously love Christy Moore and his live shows are great. Its a shame its on a weeknight though, so we will have to drive home afterwards, rather than getting a night away in a hotel.

We have finally booked our ferry tickets for our holiday and decided to bring it forward by a week. So, we are now going 6 weeks yesterday for a fortnight - yay! I will of course be putting in a formal request asap for gorgeous weather for those two weeks.

Don't know what to do with myself waiting for this phonecall. The receptionist told us the results came back 'normal' for the coeliac screen, but we need to speak to the gp regarding his full blood screen. I also need to ask some more questions about the type of test they did and more specifically what the results were as have been reading up on what different results might indicate. Its good news if he definitely doesn't have coeliacs, though, it means he can go gluten free straight away again rather than needing any further testes and hopefully he will start feeling (and behaving) better really soon.

teaandcakeplease · 21/06/2010 11:20

DS is driving me nuts too 120. Asleep right now though and DD is at Pre School so I've been to homebase and bought a new shower curtain and shower hose earlier, as the old one was leaking really badly and the curtain was vinyl and was tearing at the top from too much pulling by toddlers Vinyl curtains are definitely not for me, I've gone back to fabric now. Both now replaced, sanded down polyfilla, I've filled and sanded down twice now, so now it looks lovely and just done one coat of paint. Our tenant put up screwed in shelves into our lounge wall, which we took down when we got back, so there were some big gapping holes he wasn't meant to do it, the naughty boy. The tenancy agreement said that. Also had a badly damaged wall from when I moved back in and the sofa backed into it. Both these jobs have needed doing for 8 months So good that I'm making progress finally. I think I was too busy feeling sorry for myself prior to now.

Off to a friends this afternoon with a DD of a similar age to mine, so hopefully they can have a lovely time whilst I chat to her mum.

moosemama · 21/06/2010 11:23

Cross posted 120.

Am with you on the demanding little darlings. They really are 24 hr fun fun fun at the moment aren't they.

Although, dd has decided this weekend that the word 'no' is no longer de rigeur and we are now getting lots of 'yesss' 'yesss' 'yesss' instead - which makes a lovely change.

She spent the entire time in the playground this morning surrounded by a gang of little boys who were all clamouring to retrieve her doll as she repeatedly chucked it out of the buggy. She's got them all wrapped around her little finger!

moosemama · 21/06/2010 11:26

Aaaargh! Cross posted again.

Morning Tea. Good on you with all that DIY - you go girl! You can come to mine and do some any time. We never seem to get around to DIY, hence dd still not having her own room at almost 18 months old.

Have a lovely time at your friends house this afternoon.

teaandcakeplease · 21/06/2010 11:30

Well I weigh just over 13 stone Moose. Borrowed a set of scales at a friends last week. Not ideal

Dieting has stopped, need to get back on the wagon again.

teaandcakeplease · 21/06/2010 11:31

I'd do anyone's DIY if they played with my kids It is quite satisfying when you've done something well and it looks nice. Trouble is I'm a perfectionist whe it comes to DIY, so I think it takes longer than normal.

moosemama · 21/06/2010 11:46

Snap - I am a very similar weight Tea and am gutted as that's two stone heavier than a few weeks after I had dd.

I think its the perfectionist thing that stops me from even starting DIY iyswim. I know its not going to look perfect, so am loathe to do it and be disappointed. Shame we don't live closer, our dc's could entertain each other while I supervise and you do my DIY.

allshoppedout · 21/06/2010 11:52

tea and moose, I weigh the same too and am desperately on a diet. I am using my spin bike to get fit (have stopped running for the mo as spinning will shift it faster) and am doing fruit and a sandwich for breakfast, soup for lunch, then a real supper as I hate going to bed hungry. At the weekends it is reveresed as we do breakfasts out or lovely brunches at home, then it's just a soup and some fruit for supper. Haven't weighed myself in the last week as I know when I start spinning I always put a couple of kilos on in the first week, which is very depressing, even though I know it's muscle!

DIY is fab. DP and I completely ripped out our kitchen and bathroom and redid them on our own (with quite a bit of little help from DP's Dad. I completely loved doing the tiling!

moosemama · 21/06/2010 13:50

Dog, I think you have an excuse for carry a bit of extra weight at the moment.

What's a spin bike 120? I used to love my stepper back in the late 80's/early 90's as I worked long hours with no time to get any exercise in and I could step and watch tv at the same time.

I have had a small bowl of branflakes with some strawberries and bananas chopped into it for breakfast and salad wrap with a frightening of ww salad dressing on for lunch. Am feeling slightly peckish, but in a virtuous kind of a way iykwim. Was going to go for a walk before school pick up, but am now waiting for yet another call back from the gps after we got distracted and forgot to finalise whether or not he needs another full blood count taken.

Am very impressed at your DIY 120. I did tile the floor of our kitchen in our first house, but can't say I enjoyed it (or for that matter that it was level). I loved our last house as it was brand new when we moved in and diy consisted of slapping a coat of paint on the wall.

So, he's not coeliac. Which is fantastic news. Asked about his symptoms and she said probably non-coeliac gluten intolerant and going gf would still be a good way in her opinion. She also said we should ring and speak to his paed for further advice, as she has taken it as far as she can really and he may want to try a different test (although unlikely as the one he had was the definitive one). She also said he could get us to see a paed dietician faster than she could so asking him to call us would be the way to go.

Apparently there were some anomalies with his full blood count though. His iron levels were very good but he had several anomalous readings for white cells and phytocytes? or something and one other thing which suggested infection or illness, which is strange as he wasn't ill for at least a couple of weeks either side of the blood test.

Had to call the paed's office anyway, as the appointment we had has been moved to slap bang in the middle of our holiday. Called up expecting to be told we would have to wait until September or something, but was surprised to be offered a cancellation for tomorrow! I am now waiting to find out if the gp can get it together to sort a blood test form and prescription for EMLA cream, so that we can get his bloods done while we are already at the hospital.

So, hopefully we will have more of a plan by tomorrow evening.

Fortunately, dh had already arranged time off tomorrow as its ds2's learning support (iep) review at 11.00. Looks like we are in for a busy, but hopefully productive day.

120 · 21/06/2010 14:27

that is fantastic new Moosey! well done on the iron levels too. Could the phytocyte probs be that he was fighting the gluten (long shot). Hope tomorrow goes well.

Spin bike looks like this. Spinning is a bit like moshing. You get together some tracks that make you want to jump and dance, and some easy listening for warm up/cool down, and then you do a variety of cycling techniques for 20 mins to the fast music, before cooling down to the slow stuff. I'd done myself a load of itune routines when I was pregnant with DD (the gym didn't want me spinning in the classes anymore and I didn't want to give it up!). Burns more calories than any other exercise as far as I know (apart from maybe boxing).

Spoilt the spinning a bit by having quite a few crackers with cheese before the soup though as I got too hungry! I've got to read the paul mckenna thin book again, obviously!

OP posts:
moosemama · 21/06/2010 14:31

Ooh that sounds like fun! But big spondoolies for the bike though!

How do you different cycling techniques? Do you do some standing, some sitting upright then leaning some forward? [dim Moose emoticon]

Think of the cheese as protein.

120 · 21/06/2010 14:43

luckily got the bike pretty cheap on ebay. cost me less than a 6 month gym membership so thought I'd give it a go and resell if I didn't use it! Not had that issue yet and it's been 3 years.

Pressure can be increased on the fly wheel, so it is a bit like incrementally applying the brakes while still cycling. Basically it is like cycling uphill all the time. There is the basic spinning, with no pressure, which is as fast as you can spin your legs, then there is a sitting hill, where you increment, then standing hill, increment more, dips (for triceps and arms), squats (arse & thighs). There is also a tunnel race, where you stand up but lean over the bars (hurts just about everything!). Then there are different hand grips and combos of the above positions (where you stand up/sit down/lean into the bike). Plenty to keep you occupied for 20 mins or so! I absolutely love it.

good point about the cheese. not fat. no siree.

moosemama · 21/06/2010 14:56

Just youtube'd it. It looks really tough! Its just the sort of thing I would have gotten really hooked on way back when.

Hard to believe it now, but I had an eating disorder and exercise obsession as a teenager/early twenties. I was soooo fit, but ridiculously skinny (think over 6 stones less than I am now and that was mostly muscle ). I still get the buzz from exercise now and once I've done a couple of sessions I don't find it hard to keep it up. I do find it hard to get started in the first place though, as I hate how unfit I feel and how hard it all is. Once I get going I tend to stick with it until something comes along to muck up my timetable so I can't fit it in anymore.

Like the fact that its only a 20 minute workout, but that said, it would currently kill me to do even 5 minutes at that pace.

I really need to get back into exercising/fitness. I have no other hobbies so you'd think it would be possible really.

You have inspired me to look for a piece of exercise equipment I can use at home as that way I'd have no excuse not to keep it up. Perhaps that's what I should spend my birthday money on. Slight problem with space in the house but will have to work around that.

120 · 21/06/2010 15:18

fab idea, then you me and tea can do a lose two stone thread and encourage each other to eat cake get slim.

I was once thin too. I was 59 kilos when I ran the marathon. Can't even imagine that now. I went up to 15 1/2 stone at the height of both pregnancies. Can't imagine that either, thank god!
