thanks tummum happy to say G is only a bit grisly this am.. much better than last night. no screaming and calpol etc which is a relief.
mum spoke to the hospital this am and dad is now settled into a ward and out of the emergency assessment unit. will know more tomorrow when they've had a chance to get some more IV anti-biotics into him.
bigthanks again to everyone for all your support x

essenceofSES · 22/08/2010 11:37

Fi - glad G is more comfortable this morning and hope your dad improves really quickly.

O and I would like to join the screaming teething corner if there's room! Bless him, he woke at 4.30am and has such a sore bum. 3 smelly poos, a mix of metanium & Vaseline and some Calpol and he's now asleep again. Phew!

llareggub · 22/08/2010 18:05

How are things this evening, fi?

FiByTheIcySea · 22/08/2010 18:59

llare thanks for asking.. so far so much better with G. Gave her early dinner, skipped bath as she was heading to really grisly tired. Gave her some calpol a bit before heading off to bf and bed.. happy to say she went down without a fight and fingers crossed she'll be asleep soon.. she was totally knacked.
my dad's sister drove down and visited dad this afternoon. he slept for most of her visit & although a better colour is still very weak.

pulapula · 22/08/2010 20:30

ses - hope O is feeling better. S has had some bad nappies lately, which i'm sure is linked to the teething, although he's been "teething" for over a week now and no tooth through yet, although there's one that feels very close.

fi- hope your dad gets better soon.

Well, after having a lovely day with just S as the others are at my parents Grin, we've talked a lot about having a 4th DCs Shock and we have got as far as agreeing that i stop taking my minipill, and then if/when my periods return, we will decide whether it is a good idea or not. No doubt when DD and DS1 return and i become horrible shouty mum again it will be the last thing i want Grin. Also, I'm not sure whether my periods will return, as previously they have only come back when i've stopped BF altogether. We will be practicing safe sex until they do, as we don't want to be caught out. DH has always wanted a big family and likes the idea of 4, and I tend to take it one step at a time, although when i was growing up i liked the idea of having twins (boy and girl), although not now Wink.

FiByTheIcySea · 22/08/2010 21:38

how was O for the rest of the day ses hoping a lot better x
wow pula that's really exciting! Grin I hope it happens for you when you start ttc.
feel free everyone to send wishes for a happy accident here as we're not planning another but have to admit i'd still love another!

llareggub · 22/08/2010 22:14

Pula Shock wow, good luck with TTC!

We're very up and down (juvenile snigger) on the subject and have changed our minds a few times. I'd like to wait another 6 months I think then go for it.

My grandmother is still in hospital and they took her off oxygen today which didn't go well, so we're waiting to hear what happens. It doesn't sound good from here though.

I've had an amazingly productive day and have noticed that I get an energy surge on the day I get my period. I think because I've lost so much weight I am actually ovulating now. I didn't really before which is why both pregnancies were quite a shock! I read "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" so I'm now quite interested in hormonal fluctuations now that I actually have some. Fascinating, I think.

FiByTheIcySea · 22/08/2010 23:30

llare sorry your gm is still poorly I hope she rallies again v soon x
that book sounds fascinating. I can tell when i've ovulated as i get a grumbly pain for a short time on whichever side is doing it's thing.. has been very handy while ttc. but only figured out what the pain was when i started noting down when it happened & periods in advance of ttc DS!

llareggub · 22/08/2010 23:40

Here it is if I ever have a daughter I shall buy it for her when she starts her periods.

Thanks for good wishes regarding my grandmother, but she is very chirpy and I'm sure she'll be fine.

Just went up to check on DS2. He'd fallen out of bed onto the pillows on the floor and stayed fast asleep! We moved him into a bed a few weeks ago as we wondered (desperation!) if he was waking himself up by getting his legs stuck. It hasn't made a difference and now he wanders into us in the morning to wake us up.

FiByTheIcySea · 23/08/2010 08:55

Awww llare glad DS2 didn't wake up with his soft landing the picture of him toddling through to wake you up is v cute. G went through a phase of occasionally getting one foot stuck between the bars of her cot even with her grobag on. luckily for us she stopped doing it all of a sudden.

FiByTheIcySea · 23/08/2010 08:58

wonderful your gm is chirpy with all that's going on a positive mind goes a long way imo Smile

runningmonkey · 23/08/2010 18:27

fi and llare thinking of you both. Hope your dad and gm are doing ok today.

pula ooh exciting. Good luck

Have been thinking of tum today and her first day. Hope it has gone ok.

Hope the teething troubles are easing fi and ses

Hi to everyone else, hope everyone is ok.

Sorry but this is going to be a short post. Came down with a horrendous stomach bug on hol that still hasn't shifted and am still feeling pants - DH had to take the day off to look after A today and am feeling v guilty about it.

essenceofSES · 23/08/2010 20:47

running - poor you! Don't feel guilty. Hope you feel back to 100% soon.

Llare - hope the news from your GM is good this evening.

Fi - hope the ABs are doing their job for your Dad.

Tummum - hope your first day went really well

Pula - yay for some time for just S :) How long do you plan on BF S for? Just nosey as I'm still BF O morning and evening and I'm not looking to stop yet. I'm hoping to let him self wean but not sure how long that will be. Probably neither is he!

pulapula · 23/08/2010 21:36

running - hope you feel better soon - sounds nasty.

fi and llare - hope your dad and gm are improving.

Ses - I'm still undecided about how long to BF S for, and am also hoping he will self-wean Smile. He comes on and off a lot during a feed, often doing each boob twice during a feed and comes back for a topup in the morning after he's had a little wander around Grin. He has a vicious latch now and likes to tweak my nipples and wobble my jelly belly whilst changing sides, but luckily doesn't bite, otherwise i'm sure i'd just stop! He will take a sippy cup of cows milk if i'm not around, so he would probably be ok about it.

We've had a breakthrough in the last 3 days/nights where i can put him down in his cot, and walk out with him awake, and he doesn't cry when i shut the door and leave Grin. Usually i have to stay and pat/stroke him. It's been a long time coming but it is very liberating and i feel like he's growing up. Maybe that's making me broody too, as well as knowing 3 people who had babies last week, and my SIL and cousin are due in September.

llareggub · 24/08/2010 07:53

running Poor you! I hope you feel better soon.

Re breastfeeding, I'm going to carry on until DS2 self-weans. DS1 did this at 2.9 years so if DS2 goes the same way I've got a long way to go! If it works out the same I'll have been breastfeeding for just over 4 years, but hopefully I'll be pregnant again by the then.

FiByTheIcySea · 24/08/2010 15:58

running hope you're feeling a bit better and don't feel guilty about your dh having to take time off work.. it'd be the same here and i'm sure your dh wouldn't have minded extra time with A.
pula yay to S letting you leave the room and settling himself!
ses I'm still bf am & eve with odd one extra thrown in now and again. i've no previous with bf as DS was ff so i was wondering if G would self wean. So far no sign of that and i'm not sure I want to let her if she carries on as long as llare's DS1.. much admiration for llare's patience in not being desperate to get her body all to herself.. have to admit i'm quite looking forward to being able to buy snazzy new bras (esp since i've discovered new dd - J brand called curvy kate)

llareggub · 24/08/2010 16:39

Oh I just go ahead and buy the snazzy bras anyway! I must admit that one of the reasons why I carried on feeding DS1 for so long was because it was a good way to get him off to sleep and I didn't know how it would happen without it.

FiByTheIcySea · 24/08/2010 19:29

lol llare i have to admit I have now purchased much desired needed bras with matching shortie knix one lot was a bargain and the other set full price.. shouldn't have as we're kinda skint but figured i've got until the next cc bill arrives to sell some of my ebay pile to generate the cashGrin. ikwym about bedtime bf sorta wondering about that myself and that's mostly why i'm still bf.. the other reason is i'm struggling to get her to take cows milk or formula milk out of anything! the doidy cup so far has been the most successful but not really the easiest for night time snuggles & last feed Hmm

llareggub · 24/08/2010 19:41

DS2 is doing really well out of a normal cup. Occasionally he misses and spills it onto his clothes but we've had more success with an open cup than anything else. He point blank refused a bottle, used to try and tear off a spout with his teeth but was generally OK with a straw. But an open cup has been a revelation!
