Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
llareggub · 10/08/2010 22:28

Evening all!

Kind of just bookmarking as I've got things to sort for work tomorrow . My grandmother (98) is very ill and in hospital, so prayers/thoughts her way would make me very thankful. I need to pack a few things this evening just in case I need to make a rapid trip down the motorway to see her.

On a brighter note, I had THE question from DS1 today. He is 3 and asks questions constantly. A few weeks ago he wanted to know how babies grew and I explained about eggs but instead of using the word sperm I used the word seed, as he loves gardening. I told him that mummies have eggs and daddies have seeds. Anyway, today he wanted to know EXACTLY (his word) the seed gets in the mummy's tummy. I must admit to skirting around the question for now but I know he will ask me again, so any tips gratefully received.

runningmonkey · 11/08/2010 09:34

llare thoughts are with you and your family. No sensible advice about 'the question' but I know that this book is v highly recommended.

ses I've been doing that a bit the last couple of months... am hoping this will be the month for us so fingers crossed. As for nice outfits - do you have a pumpkin patch near you - they sometimes have some nice things.

momi hope you're ok after toddler meltdown.

belgina glad you had a good hol. Your pics are fab on fb and wow - yummy mummy or what :o

flip hope your DH is ok. How exciting about potential move. Also, have been meaning to ask how near you are to Colchester? I fancy taking A to the zoo there and wondered if you were near whether you'd like to make it a meet-up?

fi hope you are enjoying cuddles with your birthday boy and that your cake turned out ok. Your NS plans sound like they are moving nicely which is great.

Hope that febes moving day went ok - it was yestreday wasn't it?

pula hope you have recovered from your hol - sounds exhausting. I would second the idea that they organise the next one and you expect them to wait on you

smoky Grr at your IL's and glad it improved as the visit went on. Very Envy of the reflexology. Hope R is ok.

omnom hope you managed to make it to the Dr. My cycle was a bit all over the place for about three-four months after it came back but has now settled into the same 25 day cycle as I had previously.

Hope everyone else who might be lurking are doing ok - tum, spangle, muddled, and anyone else I can think of!

Thanks to everyone who made lovely comments on my new dress - I had a brilliant weekend away with my friend and I must have looked good as I got chatted up! Was quite impressed with myself for managing to stay out dancing until 3am! Felt dreadful the next day though.

We're off camping at the weekend with friends. I am so looking forward to catching up with them and I think A will love it as she is so into everything at the moment. I think she is developing a hugely mischievous streak atm - we were at the Dr yesterday for her jabs and wanted to go off exploring. If I asked her to come back, she just turned around, giggled and ran off! If I don't watch her like a hawk she is halfway up the stairs (and giggling) in a flash!

Right, must go - off into work in a bit to sort out my classroom and lesson plans ready for the new term. What fun!

smokeybacon · 11/08/2010 12:44

flip hope your DH is recovering. Not great timing but still, ouch!

fi Death star cake??? My DS1 would seriously love this as he is another one who is Star Wars mad at the moment. Have you a pic of said cake you can post? And yay for the NS application process starting. Really hope it all works out for you as it truly looks like a fabulous place to live and raise a family. Nope not at all Envy!!!

llare thinking of you and your gran. Re your DS q. Could you just refer him to your DH? I plan on doing so when DS1 asks it. I am surprised we have not had it yet bearing in mind there are 2 babies very obviously in my tummy.

(note to self - must do bump pic!!!)

ses John Lewis do nice boys stuff too for smartish dos. As well as mini boden and both on line too.

febes hope moving day went well.

running ooooh being chatted up! How lovely!! Enjoy your camping trip.

We're off to France on Sunday for 2 weeks. So looking forward to it. A bit of sunshine, a beach and being able to put my feet up. Have had a few awful nights sleep recently with no real help from DH ( work stress again) but he has said that on hol and once work sorted he will be able to help with the sleeping more. I have yet to watch the prgramme on Ch4 about kids and sleeping so hoping for a Miracle Cure on there.

However have a scan and hospital appointment to get through first as will need consultant to say it is ok to go. Fingers crossed.

essenceofSES · 11/08/2010 14:14

Llare - thinking of you. ((((hugs))))

Smokey - when is your next scan? And yes, we need a bump piccie!

I'm having a :( and Angry day for no particular reason. Must be PMT combined with a BFN this morning. No AF yet but I won't be suprised when it appears now.

Flying visit as on my phone. Back later!

essenceofSES · 11/08/2010 16:56

I did cheer myself up a little in town - bought myself a bag for my brother's wedding. Big cream one that fastens with a huge button & loop. It was reduced from £40 to £19.99!
Also bought myself this top which I'm really pleased with now I've tried it on :)

belgina · 11/08/2010 19:28

Hi everyone,

Sorry I didn't get back after bookmarking the other day. My book (the lost symbol) got in the way Blush

{{{hugs}}} to Ses for your BFN. I always felt Angry and Sad when that happened too. Yay for the retail therapy though

llare My thoughts are with you and your family. We had the Q when I was pg with C. The book running recommended is good, we've got that. My own dcs really love this boobk They liked using it to keep up with how C was growing.

febes How's the move going? All packed up and ready now? How is the mei tai? Is it comfy. Sometimes, if it isn't, it's just a matter of trying a different brand or size. I had my fave wrap sling converted into a mei tai last month. here

momi How is your dd1 doing now? Are things looking better now?

fi How exciting about the NS plans now moving forward to step 2! Good luck with the Death Star cake. With your talent it should look great!

omnomnom I agree. Get thee to the GP to get it checked out. I've had 3 periods so far now. All my normal flow first 2 exact 28 day cycle last caught me by surprise 3 days early while still away without anything with my. I know. I should know better by now.

flip Hope things are getting better and that you can get some rest soon.

smokey Glad to hear that you've survived your IL's stay over. I'd love to see a bump pic Grin

meet I can't do the 25th I will be in Belgium on that day, sorry Sad I'd been hoping for a meet over the summer as well.

C also does tantrums like the others, especially when you say no or take something dangerous (but fun Wink) away.

We had a great holiday. We did a little tour of the Atlantic coast of France and a bit of Spain. We took the ferry back from Santander to Portsmouth which was a 24h journey. It was like a mini cruise. Absolutely brilliant. The ship even had a pool on board! We took the caravan and stopped in each place for about 2-3 days before moving on again. The last stop was our favourite. It was a bit of Spain that seemed to be devoid of any foreign tourists. The coast was absolutely beautiful. The dcs loved it there too, because the rocky coast was home to loads and loads of crabs and the rockpools were full of little fish.

C changed a lot on the trip. She became a proper little social person. She was forever seeking out other children and trying to join in with play. She actually even made a few friends, lol. She also learnt to stand alone for a bit, which is off course nothing to all those walkers out there, but quite a feat for C. We also discovered that she's a natural swimmer. In the paddling pool she crawls with the arm bands on and when it gets too deep she just kicks her legs and off she goes! It's just the most amazing sight, ds and dd1 never did anything like it. Unfortunately we never managed to get it on film.

A quick question. On holiday C started BF more again up to 8x in 24h Hmm. She discovered that she can ask for it. Ever since she's got very very runny nappies, which are giving her horrendous nappy rash. The drs have given me cream for the rash and had a listen to her tummy which is apparently fine. Those of you who still bf, do you still have runny nappies? Sorry to lower the tone with a poo question.

omnomnomtom · 11/08/2010 20:55

llaregub thinking of your grandmother

Ses sorry to hear you had a BFN today - am sending virtual hugs your way

Well done to belgina's C and her amazing swimming skills- your holiday sounds blissful!

Thanks to everyone who offered me advice- have GP appointment booked for Mon, Af eased off now just some spotting has left me feeling very run down though

Fi how did the cake turn out- any photos

smokey (chants) bump pic bump pic bump pic Wink !

Am doing a craft swap on Flickr at the moment- am stitching up a scene from the twin peaks movie for a fellow David Lynch fan. Am enjoying it but feeling the pressure as I have to send it on the 21st and have loads to do- would never have signed up for it if I'd known how knackered I'd be this month

FiByTheIcySea · 11/08/2010 22:09

can't name check.. trying to finish death star cake for ds's party tomorrow :-) will definitely take photos and upload them to FB..
will catch up properly tomorrow eve probably.. for the moment sending mixture of hugs & waveshellos for all that need them x

momino · 12/08/2010 10:17

ahh, so much to catch up on! Toddler meltdowns are happening more frequently now with dd2 (nearly 3)and usually in the evening before bed so reckon it's tiredness as well.

llare, hugs to you for your grandmother.

Ses, how are you feeling? such a tough time ttc and hard to get one's head round bfn, arrival of period, etc.

Fi, Looking forward to the cake pics.
omnom, stitching a scene from twin peaks? Shock very, very impressed. would love to see the finished project.

smokeyB, have a wonderful time in France, lucky you. hope you can get some relaxation as well.

running, chatted up... you go girl! (said in my most exaggerated american accent). HOpe you have a good camping trip.

belgina, sounds like a wonderful hol. C sounds amazing with her swimming. Hope you can sort out the runny nappy thing. It's not coinciding with teething? I think H's nappies are runnier when she's teething.

went to bed at 7 last night Shock. dh was home early and I happened to come down with a fast-working virus or something. had chills from 3pm then achy limbs, headache, fever. slept a bit, woke for soup at 10pm then slept till 7am. feel a bit better now, just achy. great that I caught up on sleep but now have to make up for the work tonight Sad.

must go now as the 4 of us have to take the dog out and 2 aren't yet dressed. what kind of mum am I social networking whilst my children, housework, baking, dog, work are neglectedHmm?
hope those I haven't namechecked are also well.

FiByTheIcySea · 12/08/2010 17:34

Just a quickie as dc's are having their dinner.. cake pics now on FB my black piping went a bit dribbly but it didn't look too bad so i just left it Grin

FiByTheIcySea · 12/08/2010 17:42

momino glad whatever you had was over the worst by this am. nothing wrong with taking some time for you imo. i find social networking is about the only thing you get to yourself as even a visit to the loo these days gathers many onlookers!

FiByTheIcySea · 12/08/2010 21:32

llare sorry about your gm how is she today?

flipflopsattheready · 12/08/2010 22:40

Evening all!

ses - hope you are ok today; have a hug.

llareggub - sorry to hear about your GM, hope all ok. Thinking of you x

belgina - welcome back! holiday sounds good. Re the nappies, no experience really, sorry - are the nappies caused by the milk, or could she be a bit ill and wanting more milk because of that? Is she eating normally otherwise?

momino - hope you feel even better tomorrow.

running - we're not too far from Colchester, it would be lovely to catch up with you! I think I can get to the zoo on public transport but would have to investigate. The next few weeks are out really, but hopefully after some of the dust has settled we could work something out.

Thanks all for the good wishes for DH. Fortunately nothing is broken, but he is in quite a lot of pain at times and not gone back to work yet! No house news really, removal company booked, but move date not confirmed yet; pretty much everything is done for our purchase, but our buyer is on holiday this week and we're waiting for her mostly. Nerve wracking!

FiByTheIcySea · 13/08/2010 00:03

flip glad to hear your dh hadn't broken anything. i hope the pain killers help him cope with the pain. keeping everything crossed for a smooth move for you.
belgina yay to C's swimming & still bf here between 2 to 4 feeds dependent on the day... G's poop is not solid but not runny iykwim just sort of soft n squidged into her bum shape by her nappy.. omnom did you finish your stitching? love to see some photos!
running glad you had a great time & was the chat up bloke good looking? nice on the eyes is always a bonus and even more of a confidence boost to not be attracting the weird ones like i always seemed to!
Ses how are you doing today? x
smokey i don't mind the star wars obsession as i like it too. DS loves the star wars Lego game we have for the wii and dh's psp. have to limit his time on it though or he'd be on all day if allowed. DH is quite rubbish at playing it so I get brownie points for being able to finish the whole game when he gets stuck!!
llare I've not had THE question exactly yet so no help on that one sorry.. But taking note as it will be asked at some stage! :)

runningmonkey · 13/08/2010 10:44

Just bobbing in to say hi and bye for a week!

Fi The cake looked amazing! Glad the cake recipe worked for you :)

Oh and the chatting up guy was ok - a bit of a geek but then so am I so I suppose that figures :) You're right Fi that it is a nice confidence boost even if you're not on the look out - lets just say that DH has been v attentive this week since I told him about it :o Wink

flip sounds great, message me when you're settled and we'll see if we can work something out - I don't work on Mondays or Tuesdays so term time is ok with me too :)

belg I must admit I thought teething too when you mentioned runny nappies as that's always the first sign I get with A when she's about to get a new tooth. a always seems to want more milk when she is getting a new tooth as well.

ses ((hugs)) hope you are feeling ok.

llare I saw your fb status so presuming its not so good with your gran ((hugs)) to you as well. Am thinking of you.

Hi to everyone else, must go - lunch with some friends today and need to think about packing - we're aiming to be off at 9am tomorrow Hmm

See you in a week x

essenceofSES · 13/08/2010 15:27

Hi! Thanks for the hugs guys - just the usual rollercoaster of ttc. Really frustrating that I've been feeling really nauseous the last 48hrs but I think that's more because I've got a mild version of the sickness bug going round nursery at the moment rather than anything else. Especially since I've had another BFN.

Llare - thinking of you

Running - have a great time!

Flip - how inconvenient of your buyer to be on holiday this week!

Momino - sounds like a very nasty virus you had. Hope you're ok now.

Anyone got any exciting plans for the weekend? None here - just work tomorrow morning and usual household chores I think. Kitchen extension still progressing well :)

belgina · 13/08/2010 22:14

Hi everyone,

thanks for the replies re the runny nappies. TBH I don't think it's teething. She's actually now got 4 molars through and all her canines are now through (now just growing bigger IYKWIM). Poor thing had all 8 teeth coming through in 1 go. No wonder she hadn't been sleeping all that well the last few months, though the last 2 weeks she's been much better. I think it might just be the extra milk.

ses Hope the TTC isn't going to take too long. It's a roller coaster, and not much fun on the down bits.

TTC DH and I have had a chat over the holiday and have come to the conclusion that a no 4 would be a bit greedy and impractical so those plans are on hold now, but not cancelled. I think we both have to think about it a bit before we make a decision. I'm 32 now, so I've got a few years yet before it's too late. DH is 45 though and getting on a bit Wink, so can't leave it too long Grin

smokeybacon · 15/08/2010 10:25

Just popping in to say au revoir for 2 weeks. Off to France in a minute. Can't wait!!

Hope you all well and "see" you in 2 weeks

x

momino · 15/08/2010 20:52

so, so bad at keeping up. just checking in to bookmark.
Will do quick review now and reply soooooon. but hope all are well.

momino · 15/08/2010 20:55

Flip, so sorry, totally missed your DH's accident - how is he?

momino · 15/08/2010 20:57

Belgina, thanks for asking: dd1 is doing a bit better (and I'm doing my best to give her a break!) and is actively talking about going to school and looking forward to it. I'm going to buy school shoes with her Wed and can't wait! I think she'll get there in the end. HOw's C today? is she feeling better on the nappy side of things?

belgina · 15/08/2010 22:22

momi Thanks for asking about C's nappies. They're still the same, even after going to work and not being around during the day. She's not ill, so I'm hoping it'll pass soon.

smokey Have a lovely time in France :)

I just have to share my dd1's comment with you all. Especially as we were talking about 'the' question earlier in the thread. We talked about ds being my 1st baby and always being my 1st, dd1 my 2nd, etc... Then we went on to ds saying the next one would be a 4th and just joking we carried on counting. Anyway, dd1 then said 'No no, you could never get 100 babies, because daddy could never make his thing (that's what she called it) big that many times!" I nearly wet myself when she said that. It was very difficult to keep a straight face Grin

Oh and carrying on with the theme. On my hols I seem to have found my long lost libido. Only took 15 months Hmm

We had our new ap arriving on saturday. She's really lovely and has already spent lots of time playing with the children. She's really interested in them and it's lovely to have someone like that again. The last ap just watched the dcs, rather than engage with them, so both DH and I are very happy so far.

llareggub · 15/08/2010 22:46

Evening!

Thank you all so much for the good wishes regarding my grandmother. They must have worked because she is very chirpy and we now suspect she will live to 100 at least. I am hopeful that I get her clearly fantastic genes.

Our trip back from Wales was a nightmare; I travelled alone with the boys and half way up the M50 DS1 was sick everywhere. I didn't know what to do; DS2 was fast asleep and a nightmare when woken and the M50 is very deserted and pretty dark. But we coped admirably, DS1 and I.

I have been lurking and reading and have lots to post but for now I shall leave you with tales of DS2's poo, just for Belgina. His nappies are always pretty soft. It is very rare that they are formed. He breastfeeds twice a day when I'm working but on the other days (5 days) he still feeds at least 4-5 times.

I'll come back and post more during the week when I've caught up with things house-wise.

Bon voyage to Smokey.

pulapula · 16/08/2010 22:16

llare - glad to hear your GM is on the mend. I read on FB about DS1 being sick in the car- not sure what i would have done in your position. I have been stuck in a traffic jam on the M25 with DD when she was about 3 and desperately needed a wee. She was in tears trying to hold it in, but there was nothing we could do to help. We just thought she'd wet herself, but somehow she held it in Shock. Better bladder control than she has now at 5 Hmm and better than me at age 38 Blush.

belgina- S is having some terrible nappies lately too. We have put it down to either teething or feeling a bit off after the MMR last Monday. He did a really bad one at church yesterday which went halfway up his vest back which is a very rare occurence.

Momino- glad you and DD1 are doing OK at the moment. From meeting her, I think she is just shy (as a child I was shy and still find it really difficult in new/social situations). I think it is just personality, and if you can get her to open up and say how she is feeling, then it can only help. I am really struggling with my DS1 atm- we breezed through the "terrible twos" easily. But now he's 3, he's become shouty, aggressive (including towards DS2), whingy, he doesn't listen, does things he knows he shouldn't, does things when he's been told repeatedly not to, bursts into tears over little things etc etc. Maybe it's just his age, and he's decided to assert himself, but we're worried that he should know what is "right" and "wrong" by now? Anyone got any advice? We generally use the naughty step, but it doesn't seem to change his behaviour in the long-run. He is also easily led by DD who does know right from wrong but does things deliberately but that's another issue Hmm. It's hard being a parent Sad, especially a "good" parent.

Well DH and I are busy plotting a 3 night break in a boutique hotel in October without DCs Shock Grin. I would rather only do 2 nights, but the 3rd night is free so seems a waste not to take it. We have enrolled DHs parents to "babysit"- the DCs will be in school/nursery so they will just have to do a couple of hours at the start and end of the day. I am wondering whether it will mean the end of BF S, but i think i will probably end up taking my pump if i plan to continue, or get engorged, but i don't seem to when i miss a feed, and S only feeds twice a day now.

flipflopsattheready · 17/08/2010 08:48

morning!

llareggub - so pleased to hear your GM is doing well! Nightmare journey indeed Shock. I really struggle with moments like that because I still get travel sick (yes, you'd think I would have grown out of it by now, wouldn't you?!) and I struggle with other people's sick as well - the smell in the car can set me off too!

momino - hope things are going ok atm. Have a hug. No particular reason, just because!

pula - Envy at your break! Sounds lovely, but I bet you'll miss them. The BF thing might surprise you, it's only a few days so S might just carry on where he left off. Don't know about you, but I don't get engorged any more.

DH is doing ok after his accident. He's back at work, but is incredibly tired and needs physio on his shoulder. His boss wants him to go abroad in the next few weeks, but DH has been told not to fly in the near future just in case there's any bleeding on his brain Shock! Dr doesn't think there is as DH's blood pressure is normal and no other signs so it's just a precautionary thing.

This is going to sound daft, possibly. I feel bad because other people on here always seem to have good advice re parenting etc, but I just don't feel qualified to offer anything at times. Anyway, it's been bothering me because it feels like all I do is come on here and grumble about stuff and get help off you lot, and not offer anything in return. Sorry Blush.
