on another subject, is anyone interested in meeting for the Family Day at York Races this year? We were supposed to last year, but I'd forgotten my mobile so couldn't meet.

I think its on 1st sep.

llareggub · 27/07/2010 18:56

Normal in our house, I can tell you.

febes · 27/07/2010 20:00

Momino I'll come, I'll come!! I was just saying to Ses today that I'm planning a trip to york around that time and should meet up with the york girls so that would be the perfect meet up!!

Me and the DCs went to meet Ses at her lovely house in leafy surrey. It was lovely to see O- he has grown so much and is the image of his mum. Him and R were running around the playground like big boys .

I am also going to attempt a meet in in London somewhere again. Dandy is keen as I chatted with her on FB recently. I am pretty much free between the 12th and 27th of august and I know Ses would prefer wednesdays so let me know if you are keen.

Not much else going on except packing and more packing.

llaregg Sorry to hear you have been so poorly and now DH and DCs are still struck down.

cherrytom · 27/07/2010 20:32

turns out I either have a 32 day cycle or as Pula mentioned my cycles could be varied in length for a bit as my periods have only just come back
momino the programme was quite good wasn't it, I know what you mean about envying the no-frills lifestyle, I honestly don't think I'd enjoy life any less if I had less stuff
llaregub hope your house is lurgy free soon
tantrums oh god yes, he points at things (often thinks like hot mugs of tea, scissors etc)and if he is told 'no' he can't have them he says 'ROOOOOAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRR'

flipflopsattheready · 27/07/2010 20:43

Hello!

Too frazzled to NC properly, sorry. The house stuff is all manic, I'm not getting enough sleep, just had a cold and feeling a bit bleurgh generally.

momino · 27/07/2010 21:01

Flip, hope you're ok, sending a hug (you can choose whether it be MNetty or UnMNetty).

Febes, 'twould be marvellous to see you up here and before you move.

Reggiee · 27/07/2010 21:30

Llare sorry to hear you've all been under the weather. Flu - urgh. Whatever has happened to swine flu btw - is it still around?

Momi funnily enough I was at the races last Friday, and saw Madness play. It was very surreal. I pmsl at your FB status re what people were wearing. It was sooo funny people watching (I was a slob in jeans). Won't be going to family day this year tho.

Febes at all the packing. Hope it' all going well.

Tum how's the nanny hunt?

Pula my favourite new tantrum trick is the going rigid and refusing to bend whilst putting in car seat. I have discovered that it is marginally easier if I spend 10 minutes before leaving the house standing in the drive way and saying 'car', 'van', 'bike', 'bus' to every passing vehicle. Yawn.

Have lost track of who is ttc? Cherry? Ses?

Still no walking here. Anyone else? Ds is still bum shuffling but has just learnt to crawl and cruise.

I'm waiting for an operation. Have to go for a surgical repair to my prolapse soon. A few days in hospital, then 4-6 weeks off work recovery, during which time I can't lift anything. So no lifting dc's; shopping; washing; hoovering etc etc. Interesting to see how that will work, but apparently it is really important to lift nothing heavier than a small handbag.

Hello all. Meant to come back yesterday but work got in the way and then I flaked out when the DSs were in bed.

tum hope the nanny hunt is going well. I may come to you for advice on this as I'm thinking nanny for next year so I can return to work. Like you say, nannies seem to be a bit cheaper than 2/3 sets of nursery fees so thats probably the way forward for us. But I've no idea of the logisitics of employing one or actually how much they are paid!

cherry good luck with the TTC. Come and join the bumb club with me and spangle!

spangle good to see you! How is the bump progressing and how are you feeling?

Re tantrums. Yes to R having them too. He is well aware of what the word no means. And Does Not Like it!! pula I like the idea of trying signing. I did it with DS1 but was pretty unsucessful but I think R may be more receptive. And momi we have some monumental tanturms from DS2 now and again. I thought we would be over them at age 5, but ooooh no. He can pull it out of the bag when he wants too!

flip and llare hope you are feeling better now. And that you manage some sleep. Aaahhhhh sleep. I think I remember what that is......

So am now 22+5. Bump is growing. I can't decide if I am huuuuugggge or actually not that big at all. I must get a bump pic done so you can all have a judge. I've found a nice thread with some other expectant twin mums. TBH I was finding the due Nov thread a little difficult to keep up with as there are so many people on there and its nice to find some others expecting twins. I am getting excited now about them. Apprehensive still, of course, but everyones reaction to the news has been so wonderfully positive, telling me how special twins are, that I am now feeling much more positive about what lies ahead. Rather than the feeling of utter dread that I did have .

I would love to meet up. And will consider the Races momi. York is a couple of hours from here and DS1 enjoyed the races here last Summer. I'll have to see how I'm feeling though nearer the time. We willl have only just got back from our hol in France too (can't wait for that!).

FiByTheIcySea · 28/07/2010 11:49

whoops looks like my phone went nuts! it repeated instead of refreshed! sorry
hi smokey

FiByTheIcySea · 28/07/2010 12:11

smokey glad you've found a good twins thread. Can't believe how time has flown
would love to meet up.. york unfortunately is a bit far but can manage london again. DS on summer hols so a wed no prob.

omnomnomtom · 28/07/2010 23:00

Hello cherrytom here- trying on a new name as thinking about joining a ttc thread and there is a cherrytomatobomb on there
Reggiee love the image of you standing there going 'car, van, etc'
smokey wow 22+5 that has gone so fast- I demand a bump pic!
york races I too am thinking about this as would love to meet some of you
I have spent too much money online at the allsaints sale, but it is payday

flipflopsattheready · 29/07/2010 22:07

Nice name, omnomnomtom, although not that easy to type

York meet up sounds fab, but a bit far for us sadly. London is doable though, depnding on house stuff of course. Would be lovely tosee you all again.

Feel a bit less meh than I did the other day, sorry for being so anti-social .

Hope everyone is ok! llareggub, are you feeling better now? blotted - enjoying your FB updates, business all sounds exciting! tummum, have a fab holiday. fi/momino - we have an awful lot of fighting too about nothing in particular, sigh.

essenceofSES · 29/07/2010 22:18

Hello!
Hope everyone's ok?

omnomnomtom - great new name! You never know, we vould end up on the same ante-natal thread again!

Smokey - definitely need bump photos!

Reggiee - Hope op all goes well. LOL at traffic watching!

Flip - sorry you're feeling bleurgh. Hope the house stiff is progressing ok.

Llare - hope you're feeling better

Febes Farewell Meet Up - a Wednesday or a Sunday would be easiest for me as I work the rest of the time. At a push I may be able to get a Saturday off.

Was lovely to see Febes and her DC on Tuesday. R is so handsome with his blonde hair and brown eyes and it was lovely to see him and O together. I have to say also that I hope O is as well behaved as A is when he reaches her age! Very polite and obedient and O loved watching her from his buggy

ttc - just coming up to ov but (for the first time in ages!) I'm out on a girls night tomorrow night (post natal group) and err... I'm out again Saturday night for a girls night with NCT friends! I guess we'll have to hope Sunday isn't too late!

Sorry for not NCing everyone but hope you're all ok and those off on holiday have a great time

momino · 30/07/2010 21:12

happy Friday everyone!

had a lovely day at the Railway Museum. it was a spontaneous trip but decided when, at 9am, i felt like my head was going to explode the next time one of the older girls put a foot in H's face. we had to get out of the house!

fi, common scenario is here as well!

omnomnommonomnommm... love the name, but will take practice typing it!

ttc, good luck all of you!! that's so exciting.

everyone else, hello! this thread has slowed down a bit. it's a lucky thing most of us are on FB to keep in touch.

Hope everyone is having a good friday night. I'm actually watching supernanny which isn't very relaxing but I'm hoping to learn something...

FiByTheIcySea · 30/07/2010 21:26

hi everyone
momino sounds like a lovely day out.. we unfortunately were stuck inside as my mum had to go to bristol for a hospital appointment so we were on dad sitting duty.. G is a complete climbing nightmare atm which made being at my parents v hard going as their place is a not G safe environment. she can climb up onto sofas and tries to go higher trying to teach her how to safely get off but she keeps wanting to just walk off!!!
i'm recovering from making it out to do my wk5run3.. a whopping 20mins in one go. i've had a soak in the bath, guzzled water and demolished a flake my legs are all wobbly.. maybe i need more chocolate?!

momino · 31/07/2010 20:49

Hi Fi. hope your parents are ok. well done on the run!

had a tough day with dd1&2 at a party. dd1 was her usual clingy self and frankly a bit miserable. she ended up having a tantrum because I was holding another baby and didn't hear her ask me a question. so she crumpled her cake and threw it across the room. i was and at her behaviour. we left abruptly.

so having an evening of what-did-i-do-to-make-dd1-so-miserable? need patience please!

anyway, tomorrow is another day and dd1&2 are going to gp's for a week! hurrah! I need a break!

hope you all are well.

flipflopsattheready · 31/07/2010 22:06

momino - hugs, that sounds tough. Hope you have a peaceful week and feel refreshed for the next round. You've probably tried this so apologies (and I know nothing about children either, really!) but what does your DD say if you ask why she's not happy/feels like she does?

fi - well done on the running, hope your legs are ok today! at a flake, not had one of those for years, don't know why!

A will not stop climbing, it's terrifying at times! She can get onto the kitchen table now, and up slides of all sizes, eek.

FiByTheIcySea · 01/08/2010 10:16

momino I don't know what to suggest. how much time does she get with you on your own? i'll read some tracy hogg and see if she has any suggestions. dd1 was most likely tired from all the party excitement and maybe just overwhelmed by the amount of people? have a rest while they're at gp and good luck for your run today!
flip I agree climbing is a complete nightmare. my legs are not too bad now the chocolate must have helped

momino · 01/08/2010 12:58

thanks both. I feel better today. DD1 has always been high maintenance but i'm sure with Big School impending, she may be a bit more sensitive.

I asked her why she screamed and tantrummed at the party, and she told me she was trying to ask me to hold the cake for her but i didn't hear because I was talking to my friend and holding a baby. I told her i understood her frustration and was sorry but that she needs to get my attention another way (tugging on my shirt?). she needs to know she can't scream and tantrum at parties, that it upset everyone else. and the cake was ruined.

Flip, I've finished the Buddhism for mothers book as well. maybe I should read it again? I wish I could put the wise advice into practice but feel like I'm not patient or kind enough to do it.

Maybe a week from dd1&2 will be good and I can take a deep breath.

Fi, I do get some good time with DD1. and at the party dd2 was sat on her own whilst dd1 was on my lap, so dd1 gets good attention. but, i do think you're right about the chaos, crowd of the party being overwhelming. I guess she somehow has to get used to it.

oh, I'm so worried about her starting school. sigh.

flip, go get yerself a flake! Fi, glad it helped.

off to do some work now.sorry for the memememe post. but it feels better now to have vented. thanks.

llareggub · 01/08/2010 15:07

Afternoon all.

We are finally lurgy-free at last. Honestly, I have been taking a combination of paracetamol and lemsip extra strength stuff for 8 blinking days now. I've also Detolled and bleached the house from top to bottom in an attempt to exorcise this house of germs. Luckily both boys have escaped the flu which makes me wonder if it was swine flu as they've both been immunised. Whatever it was, it was hell!

It has also been the longest that I have gone without exercising for over a year and I surprised myself at how much I have missed it. So I took the plunge again today and really enjoyed my workout.

Momino I don't know whether this is a useful suggestion or not, but my DS is nearly 4 and has similar outbursts to your DD. He is so much better when I make the time to do some 1 to 1 time with him. It makes a huge difference to his behaviour towards me and helps minimise the tantrums. It isn't always possible for us to do it and I feel very guilty when it gets to the inevitable tantrum and I remember it has been a while since our last 1 to 1. I keep the Bhuddism book in the loo and dip and and out when I am feeling stressed!

Flip I have another climber and it is so wearing. In fact, we've taken the sides of G's cotbed today because I caught him trying to climb out this morning.

Fi congratulations on the running. I loved and hated C25K in equal measures but was so impressed with the programme.

Omnomnomnom at your new name! Good luck with TTC

Ses I hope you had a great sociable weekend with all those nights out. Am very jealous!

Smokey A nanny sounds like a very good plan indeed. I want to see a bump picture!

Reggiee Any news on your op yet?

Hello to everyone else...

Still no walking here but lots of cruising. I think if he would just let go of the furniture he'd realise he could walk. He is much better at communicating now. He seems to have gone from not understanding anything to understanding everything. My baby is growing up!

runningmonkey · 01/08/2010 18:47

Hi all,
Back from a lovely hol. Exhausted but going for a swim as soon as A is in bed as I've missed exercising so just bookmarking and will attempt to catch up tomorrow.
Hope everyone is ok x

momino · 01/08/2010 20:08

welcome back runningm! hope you had a great time.

Llare, how do you feel after your 1st workout? glad you're feeling better.

H isn't really walking yet, either, though in the past couple of days she occasionally takes a few steps towards me. she's still happy with her crab-style crawling.

about dd1, I think you've given us the good advice before about spending time solely with her. DH has special time with dd1 on Sat morning and I spend the day with her on Wed when dd2& H are at nursery. we've had lovely outings and good one to one time but not sure if it's making too much a difference. or maybe it is? I can't tell. I do think I'm very hard on her and expect so much of her so am going to give special effort to lessen this.

do any of you who have more than one expect alot of your older children?

ok, just relaxing this eve and looking forward to Sherlock holmes.
smoky, I want to see a bump pic as well!
