last thing - for some reason dh always has some used matches on hand for rawplug emergencies!

PiggyPenguin · 08/05/2010 07:58

matches are to plug the holes if it is tto long/wide aren't they Deb? That's what my dad always uses them for. He also uses soap on screws so that they go in more easily. He's a font of diy 'tricks'!

abdnhiker · 08/05/2010 08:24

eddie The size of a junior bed is 140x70 I think so if you were to make a blanket for that, I'd stick with the length of the bed (140) because with a pillow at the top, that's long enough to cover their feet. Otherwise it's all bunched up at the bottom. For width, I'd say around 110. For reference, D's quilt is approximately 110x130 and it's more than big enough to snuggle under in front of the TV when he's older. That's smaller than the dimensions of the duvets they sell for cot beds though (150x120) does anyone have one of those? Are they on the big side for a bed or do your kids need the covers? Cot bed quilts are only 120x100 on the john lewis site. And a bubble theme would be lovely - blue applique on a background? Similar to what I did for Marisca? Or more of a patchwork design?

DS1 slept in until 8am today and Fraser is in a brilliant mood (was up at 6 though). Fingers crossed for a good day...

SpiderWilliam · 08/05/2010 08:52

Deb - something to do with spirituality and feeling another woman's love, enabling you to let go of your fear and hence the pain of childbirth.

Hope you have a lovely day in Salzburg.

I am going to my neighbour's baby shower this afternoon. Never been to one before, I imagine it is like a hen do without the alcohol. Way hay.

Eddie - hope Priscilla is good. I am going nexn month.

Rolf · 08/05/2010 16:17

Good to hear about happily sleeping children. T is usually ok but last night she took the piss horribly, so I'm pretty tired.

Fingers crossed about your offer Deb.

I haven't read that Ina May book, but it sounds very inspiring. The woman next to me doesn't really appeal either, but having just women in the room with me when I had T, I would opt for that in the future if I was having any more.

ktpie · 08/05/2010 16:41

DGT - Rawlplugs - DH has a favoured type, we have to go to Focus to get them as B&Q don't have them. Just asked him and he said they are the ones with the flange bits on them so they don't spin in the wall, I think they are brown if that helps!

Spider - I don't like the idea of a semi-naked woman lying next to me while I was in labour.

Abdn - I love that quilt! Since you were talking about quilts the other day I was inspred to make a bit of patchwork, it's going to be a cushion cover and I'm really pleased with it. I think I may be a cumpulsive crafter, I can't seem to just appreciate what other people have made, I want to have a go too. This week I've also been doing some blackwork and I've been looking at this site a lot and plotting making some furniture, I've conveniently forgotten that woodworking is not my strong point!

Popped into decathlon this week and noticed they had cheap balance bikes, here (and they have started doing online orders and nationwide delivery), J had a go but it was a little big for him, but it's possible the seat would go down a bit more. I have no idea if it is any good or not. We are still waiting for the bike DH's friend is supposed to be giving us. I'll be very surprised if it ever turns up.

Deb - how annoying about the offer, I hope you hear something soon.

Better go H needs attention.

SpiderWilliam · 08/05/2010 19:50

The baby shower was more exciting than I expected. My neighbour's partner was in TV (would still like to be but can't get a decent job). I am trying to type carefully so that this doesn't turn up on a search engine, but a famous journalist who has a website that helps you with money was there. I was looking at him thinking "You look like XY, and your name is X, hmmm". Anyway, came home and googled it, and bingo it was the man himself.

Hope that makes sense.

DebInAustria · 08/05/2010 20:17

no news on the offer but had a lovely time in Salzburg and it was a good trial run using trains for our trip to Munich airport next week!Ethan was so excited on the train.

EddieIzzardismyhero · 08/05/2010 20:42

Spider, are the initials of the website M S E?

Priscilla was bloody amazing!!!!!!

AH, do you want me to provide the material or pay you for it? Whichever is easier : )

SpiderWilliam · 08/05/2010 21:05

Got it in one Eddie. A gold star to you. Excited to hear that Priscilla was good.

Glad Salzburg good Deb. Peter fell asleep when he went on a model railway last year. Think he might be more into it at ths age though.

DomesticGoddessInTraining · 08/05/2010 22:23

I guessed too spider

too tired to post much but just wanted to share funny moment with S today. He came into the kitchen and insisted on being allowed into the cupboard under the sink. He was very earnest about it so I opened the door to see what he was after, he promptly retrieved some kitchen roll and toddled back to the lounge. Turned out he'd spilled some of his drink and wanted to dry it up. Bless.

Rolf · 09/05/2010 08:37

That's exciting, Spider!

Poor T was crying at 5.30 this morning, so I brought her into our bed where she vomited. She's been sick about 10 times since, and is bringing up bile. It's hurting her poor tummy when she's sick and she's so miserable. When she's sick she screams and is very distressed. As soon as I started stripping the bed DH got out and got straight into bed with DS2 and went back to sleep, and has only just got up .

PiggyPenguin · 09/05/2010 10:58

Rolf I'm that your dh just went straight back to sleep while T was so ill. If one of our kids was being that ill I'd expect dh to be up and helping!

Rolf · 09/05/2010 11:17

He's great at lots of things but really rubbish about illness, especially vomit and poo . In his defence, he dreads about getting ill himself and not being able to work (and therefore earn) but yes, it's still pretty crap. He got everyone breakfast and put the sheets out on the line, so not all awful

EddieIzzardismyhero · 09/05/2010 11:23

spider, was he nice? He always seems so lovely on the telly !

You'll love Priscilla I'm sure, although I was to see some quite young children there (about ten years old) - one of the stewards actually asked the mum whether she knew what the content of the show was and she said she'd already brought them twice . Some people .

Rolf, poor DD . Hope she's feeling a bit brightete this morning.

DG, that's sooo sweet! Long may it continue .

SpiderWilliam · 09/05/2010 14:35

Rolf poor T. sounds really awful.

Eddie he was v nice although he wasn't there for long as the blokes went off to the pub. He was quite unassuming and that's what made me wonder if it was him as I would imagine someone like that would be quite a big personality at a small party. Before I met him though I chatted to his wife who is both lovely and v glamourous. She is also in TV, google him and you will find photos of her. I felt decidedly frumpy despite having donned make up and contact lenses for the occasion . Infact about half the women there are TV news and weather girls although not names that I recognised. The other half were the neighbours from our street, so a bit more pedestrian.

EddieIzzardismyhero · 09/05/2010 17:25

at him being, at him having a glamorous wife!

Just made some muffins and forgot to put the sugar in! They tasted like scones instead but still edible . A had a very bad night last night , hope it's back to the good nights again tonight.

abdnhiker · 09/05/2010 17:34

Eddie will send you a message on facebook with a sketch + cost plan etc.

We made £2.40 at the christian aid bake sale today with our chocolate muffins. I'm rather proud of myself as they were a huge hit (@ 20p each) and four years ago I couldn't bake at all.

rolf hope T's feeling better today and no one else is sick. I know what your DH means about not getting sick - mine is terrified he'll be ill and miss work. Being self-employed is no fun that way at all.

Amberc · 09/05/2010 19:54

Hello all! I've not been around much lately mainly to try to escape election chat being the only blue on mumsnet! I guess it's not over yet but just wanted to say hi and find out what you are all up to. No news from me as usual. I did IUI on Friday so am on yet another 2WW (perpetual!). Been to Spain for the weekend last weekend on a whim to see Mark's dad who lives there and had a lovely time but the weather was awful. Nothing more to report - hope everyone is well (although I think there are a few ill little ones so wish them all better!).

EddieIzzardismyhero · 09/05/2010 19:54

Thanks AH, will have a look tonight over a glass of wine .

Well done on the muffins - might have to have a go at making some choccie ones now! Funnily enough the muffins I made today were the first I've ever made - I'm also getting quite into this baking lark and have just treated myself to a few bits and pieces from Lakeland to help improve my repertoire .

Talking of charity, regular Facebookers will know that I'm walking the Half Moonwalk next weekend (13 miles) in my bra in aid of breast cancer. I know some of you lovely people have already sponsored me, but if anyone else would like to then then link is here. I have £65 to go to hit my £500 target - can I get there by the weekend?!

Thank you .

EddieIzzardismyhero · 09/05/2010 19:55

Hi Amber, cross posted! Sorry to hear about the rubbish weather in Spain, and fingers crossed for the 2ww .

Amberc · 09/05/2010 19:59

Well I hear it was also rubbish in London so not too gutted. Where is the f-ing summer anyway? Got our nre garden furniture and it's lying sodden in the corner.

EddieIzzardismyhero · 09/05/2010 20:05

spider, dh just pointed that ML should have been telling everyone at the baby shower to stop being so extravagant and save their money !

EssieAmma · 09/05/2010 20:12

The summer is here, right here in Anglesey! Beach last weekend, beach today and it's been glorious. Wind's a bit cold though.
Last week's pictures on facebook, but not this week's yet - and the weather was even better. We go to heaven Llanddwyn beach.

Sorry about the sick children. And the bad sleepers too. We're ok here on a tantrum a day but my parents are away for the week - and Tim went back to London tonight. God knows how I'll cope. He's coming back tomorrow late, probably, so I guess it's not for long. I have this massive paranoia that Iestyn will become ill becuase I have no backup whatsoever. (Obv. I don't want him to be sick because it's not nice, but I can manage when there's backup from my parents. Hope that makes sense!)

Off to look at Abdn's quilts now - and will consider putting some pictures of mine up too. Acutally only one - the shirt&suit one, as promised.

EssieAmma · 09/05/2010 20:31

I don't believe it. I uploaded my pictures, and one of them is of me pregnant with Iestyn. I was just adding a comment to say 'this is not a recent photo' but before I finished typing, one of my friends who I haven't seen for a while already asked about the massive bump...!! (I am so not that good at keeping secrets. Hide a pregnancy? Don't think so!)
