Ooh Deb, that sounds hopeful.

Sybil - that is a great story about your Mum. Any hangover yet?

Amberc · 10/05/2010 16:42

Hiya - Deb I do hope all the flights get sorted out. Can't someone just pour a load of water over that bloody volcano?!! Actually Mark's aunt works for BA and she was stuck in Nigeria for 9 days because of the ash cloud (which is rubbish 'cos you can't leave the hotel in Nigeria without an armed guard) and our decorators friend was stuck in S Africa for 2 extra weeks (in a luxury pad what a hardship!). Oh and I hope that offer comes through Deb.

Spider I am impressed at your achievement at 9.50am!! Hopefully you then sat down and ate biscuits for the rest of the morning. Does Peter allow you to do housework then? I can never do anything with Luke around as he just cries, holds onto my legs and tries to drag me off to watch Dora.

Those stories are very funny. Unfortunately i can't think of anything like that that Mark has done as he is scarily clever and has common sense too. SYBIL - The story of your mum sounds like something my mum would have done - tee hee!!

Essie - extremely jealous that you have summer and i hope you cope OK without Tim (which I am sure you will and Iestyn will not get ill!!)

We got Luke's passport in about a week so I wouldn't worry too much about that Domestic.

Sybil - sounds like a good night!!!

Well my news - not much really. We bought a nespresso machine and frankly I don't know how we lived without it!! It makes as good a latte as Starbucks at a fraction of the cost. Yum!! Also went to WWatchers today expecting to be shamed in front of everyone and I had actually lost 4 lbs so in total 18 lbs so far. Very happy about that but still some way to go. I think another 7 lbs at least and that will take me to my pre Luke weight (where I thought I was fat!!).

Amberc · 10/05/2010 16:59

Ooh and I forgot to mention my gossip. When I was at the Lister fertility clinic on Friday who should I see there with her fella - Kimberley from Girls Allowed. So much for a reunion then eh?

SpiderWilliam · 10/05/2010 17:07

Wow Amber - awesome weight loss. Would I recognise you now?

With housework I find the time between the end of breakfast and 9am is best. Clearly not an option when you are on a nursery or school run. I have most energy then, and P is chirpy first thing. Two options with P, either he sits and watches CBeebies on the sofa, and I can get stuff done, even have a shower without worrying about him too much. Alternatively Peter "helps". In fact he loves helping with housework. If I vacuum I have to be very careful not to let go of the hose otherwise he is in like a shot "vacuuming" and has a massive tantrum when I take it back from him. It is also a bit hazardous with bottles of cleaning products etc, and with emptying the dishwasher. He is generally good with the dishwasher but sometimes he will just let go of a plate if I don't get it off him quickly enough. We have had a few breakages, but not many all things considered.

Since my cleaning this morning I haven't done much. Walked to the shops and had a look at some maternity clothes. Gap was v dull, and in H&M I was troubled by the maternity demin hotpants! Maybe they are catering to the teenage market? That makes me sound so old and prudish . Whilst P had a sleep, I caught up on the latest episode of "The Good Wife", and since then P has been having a major cbeebies session.

SpiderWilliam · 10/05/2010 17:10

X-post Amber

That is a major celebrity spot, probably tabloid worthy, although not a nice thing to be made public for her. Definitely beats mine from the weekend.

DomesticGoddessInTraining · 10/05/2010 17:15

Another one with a very bright but very dim DH here! The first time I stayed over at his flat he locked me in the next morning and promptly got on a train to London. Thankfully he had spare keys in his office but one of his staff (first week in the new job) had to come let me out .

I'm very cross with him atm actually for another lack of common sense episode. S came home in some trousers that weren't his (almost identical though, just different colour and probably much more used compared to S's). When DH took him back to nursery the following week I told him that S's were exactly the same and described the right colour, lining etc. Instead of S's nice (almost brand new) heavy jersey lined trousers I discovered today that he'd happily told the nursery 'yep, they're the right ones' to some very light weight, no lining, 3/4 type trousers which aren't remotely like his own, or even the same colour ffs. Spoke to the nursery and the best they can do is put a note up.

So I'm now just irrationally annoyed with everything and anyone. DH said 'oh, well I don't know what his clothes look like' - WTF not? And even if he doesn't how does - 'his trousers are dark grey with a light grey jersey lining' seem to match a pair of 3/4 length brown lightweight unlined trousers? Could it be that he just wasn't listening to me as per usual?

I hate the way that DH makes me feel like a nagging wife sometimes. It's clearly my fault that he doesn't listen or pay attention to anything.

'm also miffed at the parents who've had S's trousers at home for a fortnight and appear not to have noticed their son was sent home in the wrong trousers. FFS.

Sorry, all very irrational, ranty and grumpy but I just wanted to get it off my chest .

Deb, I'm very pleased that an offer might still be forthcoming. Do you know how much it will be yet? It seems very presumptuous for them to be finalising their own finances before you've accepted an offer?

EddieIzzardismyhero · 10/05/2010 18:14

Amber, am seriously at the weight loss - I've lost nothing and feeling very about it.

DG, I would be about the trousers too.

EssieAmma · 10/05/2010 20:01

Well, if it makes you feel any better Eddie (and Amber) I'm steadily gaining weight. Hm.
Goddess your rant could have come straight from me - I have the same issue with just lack of general interest in stuff. Iestyn's clothes, what food is in the house, where the laundry basket is at etc. It annoys me on two levels - because it's the whole lack of interest but to me it's arrogance, 'I don't need to be bothering with pathetic stuff like that' (and depending on me, unfairly), and also the whole thing that I have no choice but to be bothered with the frankly boring minutiae. I just think I can't let my guard down for a second, no mercy - I can't say at 9pm when I'm all on my own 'oh totally didn't realise we'd run out of milk' because Iestyn would get no breakfast. I can't opt out and have cereal one evening instead of a proper meal because I can't be bothered. I always have to be bothered IYKWIM.
I do hate arrogance more than anything in the world tho. And I'm tired now!

I have friends coming round - managed to get out of doing supper for them - and I just can't be arsed, I'm so tired. They're wonderful people both of them and we have such good times but today I'm sooo tired. (Plus it's the start of a worrying week! No backup, students doing exams and having wobblies, and I just failed one on Friday - big fat zero for plagiarism. Idiot.)

And you know my fears about Iestyn getting ill? Get this - the friends staying on the weekend have a little girl of 16 months, and she was under par. Got a text today - she's still ill, seen a doctor, and he's said it might be chicken pox! I'm kind of telling myself that it's an overreaction from the doctor - what are the first signs of chicken pox? Before the spots?

Got to go now to clear up before my friends arrive. laters!

Amberc · 10/05/2010 20:07

Eddie you may not have lost lbs but imagine how wonderfully fit you are with all your running! I couldn't run across a road! Spider you would recognise me of course! I am just a slightly thinner version. Actually you would think I would have gone down a dress size but I haven't! I am still a 16 but a small 16 whereas before I was a big 16. Want to be a medium 14 though!!! [hopeful emoticon] it's fecking boring being on a diet though. I long for slow roasted pork belly with creamy mashed potatoes and gravy made out of meat juices - oh jeeeeez!

Domestic - I would have gone ape about Dh and the trousers cock up. Luke came home in the worng strides once and I never got them back. Basically the kid that had Luke's got lucky as they were much nicer and his gypo mum decided to keep them.

yes it was a good sleb spot. I thought she was so pretty and perfect she must be a wag but then I recognised her. I googled the chap with her and it was definitely him - mixed race, hair braids, quite short!!

DebInAustria · 10/05/2010 22:18

Spider , I love that you were troubled by denim maternity hotpants!!You inspired me to get off my so not petite bottom today and when the boys went to bed I cleaned the bathroom and did a pile of ironing, even reaching some summer clothes left there from last year!!

Amber , great news about your weight loss, I have no willpower at the moment, before Christmas I had lost some weight but I've pile dit all and more back on. The problem is being at home all day and I do tend to comfort eat.

Goddess, weird isn't it, saying they don't want to mess us about and working round school and guests etc for the move in when we don't even know what they're offering. I think the problem is that once we accept their offer it is legally binding and costs them loads if they pull out so they need to be 100%.

Essie - what did you give your friends for supper in the end? Beans on toast? It would normally take a few days before the spots appear with chicken pox, and normally they just feel a bit under the weather, sometimes a temperature.Hope Iestyn manages to hold out until the reinforcements come back from their holiday.

Parents evening today(with buffet that Stefan's class were running), before Ethan went for his nap I said we'd be going to school and he could have cake whilst we saw the boys teachers! When he woke up his 1st word was cake! Obviously I didn't specify quantities and with Stefan on the stall and us seeing teachers he ended up having a slice of swiss roll,a piece of chocolate cake, some sort of pastry and then to top it all Stefan's teacher gave him a lolly for on the way home!!!Needless to say he didn't eat any tea!!

DebInAustria · 11/05/2010 11:41

OMG I killed the thread , come back everyone....

EssieAmma · 11/05/2010 12:20

Hi all! Had a lovely time in the end - no supper, just wine. (No they ate before they came, and then we had cake and snacks.) And I'm not feeling half as tired today and even got my hair cut (at long last).

No sign of chicken pox in Iestyn yet, but he does have a runny nose. Must say I'm sceptical about the chicken pox case, but what do I know. Anyway, I figured it will take a few days for symptoms to appear for Iestyn, and that will take us to the weekend when my parents are back. In many ways it would be useful if he did get it now - it's not such a bad time for me at work (but in a month's time it will be hellish) and I'd rather he had it young.

Deb I'm quite confused about your offer - is it a goer or not?

Spider I also laughed at the denim hotpants. Please don't do it! It's not you - you have a lovely figure - it's them! The other day I saw a heavily pg woman wearing skinny jeans. Also a bad look, IMO. I got some lovely clothes from H&M, and I was tidying up the attic recently and went all misty eyed thinking about being pg. Which is stupid, because for me it was a really shitty 9 months, so what's the nostalgia about?!

I've got some exciting news - I got a research grant!

pureeandpearls · 11/05/2010 12:43

Well done Essie!! FWIW the POcket Dictator had a rash and was grouchy for a couple of days in advance of the Pox. I just put it down to life. Then a few days later, one spot. By the end of that day there were dozens. We had a Pox Party with friends and now (two weeks later) one has come out in spots. On her birthday!!

Fingers crossed for offer Debs.

Amber- good news on weight loss. You will be invisible sideways when i see you on Saturday!! FWIW you are not the only Cameron supporter on MN. I think I was born a Tory. I just try not to talk about politics as I want people to keep tolerating liking me!

Hi all- The Big Weekend coming up. I can't believe I did the same thing last year! C's Puppy-Themed Party on Saturday and A's Christening Sunday. Including the cake I made for my aforementioned(Pox-y) Godlings' Party this afternoon, I have six to make. Unless you count the muffins we are serving at the Christening individually

Big smooches to you all xxxx

EddieIzzardismyhero · 11/05/2010 13:08

Amber, I've run nowhere! Sadly (can't use sad emoticon anymore cos I've been banned ) my pelvis is taking much much longer to repair itself than after A's pg (puree, how is your pelvis btw?) and I can't run at the moment. Doing loads of power walking and strength training to try and build it up, but every time I attempt a few steps of running it hurts too much .

Deb, sounds like you've had a v productive morning!

Essie, yay on the research grant! And feeling less tired .

puree, I am, as always, in awe of the cake making .

Just had my coil fitted. AIBU to hope it accidentally falls out and we don't notice and . . . . . .

EssieAmma · 11/05/2010 14:03

Naughty naughty Eddie! But sounds quite normal though - I'm a mother because I decided to 'see what happens if I don't use contraception'. And in many ways it's sort of easier without the planning and I half want a condom to split (TMI on my contraception there, sorry!) and I get pregnant because then it's decision made, rather than is now a good time/now's a bad time etc. (They're rather well made for obvious reasons, and I see my DH on weekends only, so...)

OK, so no news from my friends with the possibly chickenpoxed child. (I asked them to let me know.) I do wonder - their DD had a temperature, but wasn't particularly ill I thought - looked more like teething to me. But if the symtpoms are mild, then who knows. But I should have until the end of the week anyway!

abdnhiker · 11/05/2010 14:31

eddie we're sort of wishing that would happen - except when I forgot to take my pill we were both completely hands off each other for a week - it's a nice idea but not in practice...

speaking of sex - DH had a 24 hour halter monitor (ECG) because of some heart palpitations, we had a good chuckle about how embarassing it could be if we'd had sex that night. 9:30 at night - we just went to sleep. And it's a rare night where we both feel like we've lots of energy.

DS1 and DS2 have been exposed to slap cheek - we'll have to wait and see before we get together with a friend who's just 12 weeks pregnant.

denim hotpants = no.

Amber - good work on the weight loss! That's very impressive.

EssieAmma · 11/05/2010 15:22

We need a new thread title and soon!

Slap cheek is like measles, isn't it? Same virus? Hope they're ok- although from what I remember it's not much at all.

abdnhiker · 11/05/2010 16:06

slap cheek's pretty mild - nothing to get worried about except it can cause miscarriage in early pregnancy. article. (I'm glad that I'm not pregnant and that we've not had any contact with someone who's in early pregnancy!).

Amberc · 11/05/2010 16:30

Slap cheek - sounds awful! What a name! Essie I hope Iestyn survives without getting the pox. i keep thinking Luke will get it soon as it seems to be all over the place but he never does.

Essie - how much??? What will you do with it? (sorry I don't understand stuff like that - what's it for?)

Eddie - power walking is just as good as running - better for fat burning.

I had a microdermabrasion facial today. I need one a week for 5 weeks to look like a 15 year old. My face feels burnt - very odd.

Puree I have just made cupcakes out of a packet - I bow to your cake making skills!! I am going to decorate them myself though. Actually they'll probably taste better from the packet than if i tried to create them myself!

Alas, I cannot join the hoping my contraception fails chat - 1 year 4 months down the line and still nowt!!

abdnhiker · 11/05/2010 17:44

Amber I'd settle for looking like a 30 year old - all of a sudden my face looks like it's aged a decade. I went so far as to look at the wrinkly creams in the Avon catalogue...

Sorry for the contraception chat - I know it's not something to joke about lightly. Are you at the waiting part for a cycle right now too? Sending hugs anyways.

Amberc · 11/05/2010 18:11

Aw don't worry Aberdeen, it doesn't really affect me any more. I had IUI on Friday so I'm on a 2WW at the mo (again).

Cupcakes went down very well!

Luke has finally started to cut his top canines! At last!!

Rolf · 11/05/2010 18:56

Love the keys stories, and Essie I am honoured at the dedication .

Amber very impressed at the weight loss. Very , too!

PiggyPenguin · 11/05/2010 19:29

we made banana and chocolate muffins at the weekend. They are yummy.

DS1 a bit upset this evening. Its sats week at school and all years get tested. He was really happy yesterday as he thought he had done really well on his spelling test, and then found out today that although he had got all ten difficult ones right, he got 6 of the easy ones wrong. Just silly mistakes and over-confidence I think but I feel really sorry for him. I did tell him that I was always really bad at spelling but I don't think it helped

DebInAustria · 11/05/2010 21:45

Sybil - sorry to hear your ds is sad, I hate tests, ds1 has so many here and he does get worried about them. Today was cycling proficiency, yesterday was the written test, today the cycling with the police(armed)and all the class passed! So he and most of his class were out cycling on the roads round the village this afternoon enjoying their new found freedom!!!

Essie - great news about the research grant

Eddie - lol at your thinking about the coil, I spotted your comment about the bun n the oven on FB!

Rolf - are the girls better now?

Amber - 5 weeks to look like a 15 year old? You'll have to start taking out ID when you're out for the night!Fingers crossed for your 2WW

Abdn - we thought the same when dh had to wear a blood pressure monitor for 24 hours!!
Hope your dh's results are OK.

Puree - hope your weekend goes well, looking forward to the photos

Essie - the offer is a goer(at the moment) but we don't know what it is yet!

EssieAmma · 11/05/2010 22:59

Ooh, I just got into a Heated Debate with some person on here - and I've been vg and stepped away but I could say so much more. Anyhow, I came across FiveGoMad there! But I'm not going back!

Liked the contrast between Rolf's good weight loss comment and Sybil immediately posting about chocolate and banana muffins... You temptress, Sybil - or were you just going to the whole weight loss talk?

Sorry to hear about the tests. But at least if he could do the hard ones, the easy ones should be easy (duh!) if he takes his time and thinks about it. I examine people all the time (!) and that's the biggest thing - read the question properly, and don't rush in. Although some of the students I have at the moment... (My exam clangers book was just updated last week. )

Amber fingers crossed for the 2WW. And keep your legs crossed too!

My grant - tragically, not for me to spend on shoes. But it's money to pay for a researcher to work for me for a year. In academia there's lots of pressure these days to get funded research (i.e. get someone else to pay for work you'd do anyway) and it's becoming a way of measuring success. They're a load of hassle and take weeks to prepare with an 18% success rate usually. All taken out of research time. Don't get me started. But anyhow, I've finally got one - my first one; it's not a v. important one, and not big - £35k - but it's a great starting point and a good CV addition.

Did I see fewer than ten yawns there? If you're not careful I'll tell you exactly what I'm going to spend it on! Oh, you're all asleep already!

Amber you don't need peels - you have really young skin already! And Abdn I wouldn't have commented but I realised that you're younger than me. So don't even think about wrinkle creams! I'm now going to seek out Eddie who mentioned poll tax riots when I was a child - a child! (Seriously, she also looks young btw and is pretty like Amber.)
