youngerthanspringtime · 05/03/2010 21:04

Hi Ses!
HopeO is better and goes back to sleep.

I'm discovering that I won't be able to work on a friday night. just too distracting. I've got a glass of prosecco, listening to iplayer (jarvis cocker 6music), bag of crisps, just all too fun to be focusing on work. blah.

did I tell you I've got 2 days of fasting from tomorrow? got the blasted colonoscopy on mon. yech. fasting? haven't done that since Ash Wednesdays in my catholic-focused teens.
can I breastfeed without passing out?

hopalongsausage · 05/03/2010 21:08

Fasting? For 2 days? You're kidding? That sounds a bit ropey. What if you were diabetic? When I looked after kids on the ward coming in for a colonoscopy, they had to be nil by mouth from midnight, and first thing in the morning we had to give them some (I think it was...?) Picolax to drink, which pretty much cleared them out...

2 days. Blimey. I can't go 2 hours without needing more nosh....

Peeped into AIBU. Got scared. Left.

youngerthanspringtime · 05/03/2010 21:20

ok. I'm exaggerating a bit.
I have a strict diet to follow tomorrow: white bread, white rice, coffee with no milk, bovril etc. I think I can eat chicken and/or white fish (but nothing, nothing added to it). blech.

Sunday: not solid food. only liquids. oh. I can eat jelly but not the red type (what other kind is there? green?).

I peeped into the 10th anniv party photos. they all looked a bit dull (says me who would never have been invited).

Reggiee · 05/03/2010 21:20

Fasting?

Younger glad you're not working on a Friday night. How you feeling about MOnday?

saus ses Radio 2 deffo the way forward. Although will miss Adam & Joe on R6 when that closess. Now I'm back at work I do miss Radio 2, particularly Popmaster.

Am slightly distracted by Embarrassing Bodies on C4 atm.....

youngerthanspringtime · 05/03/2010 21:23

i meant 'NO' solid food. I can drink water and bovril. I can't even add lemon to the water . who makes up these diets?

febes · 05/03/2010 21:24

Reggie I'm hiding from embarrassing bodies behind my laptop. Why do these people allow channel 4 to film there arses??????

youngerthanspringtime · 05/03/2010 21:26
youngerthanspringtime · 05/03/2010 21:29

Reggiee, am scared about Mon.
part of me feels quite healthy and there will be no prob. but another side of me worries about my symptoms (which, to be fair could be a number of other things) being something scary.

well, at least if it is something wrong, I can fix it now, right? I'm only 40.

Reggiee · 05/03/2010 21:34

Pula hope you survived the bedtime and dh is back home now.
My dh went out before the kiddies woke up, and is currently boozing directly from work, so hasn't seen them all day. Had quite a fun day though thanks to the telly kids being on good form. Cracked open a bottle of vinorouge now.

Febes exciting about your house!

Headless hope you had a good meal out tonight.
Doom and gloom at our workplace too(University). The cuts are a-coming and we are a-striking. Thankfully due to what I do as an externally funded worker, I'm immune to it all (at least for now...).

Tum think I've mentioned it before, but when I went back to work after having dd it took a good couple of months of adjusting for dh and I. He'd got used to me doing most things round the house and in the end I had to spell it out (in simple mans terms) that it couldn't continue.

Spangle hope H recovers soon. Not sure if I have enough bedding for 4 changes in one night....

Right, off to pay closer attention to "nudity and intimite body examinations"

Reggiee · 05/03/2010 21:37

Deffo worth getting chekced though Younger. In all liklihood everything will be fine, but reassuring to get checked out and know, non?

Arrghhhhh.....a penis..........

flippinegg · 05/03/2010 22:13

Embarrassing bodies? Bleurgh.

younger - lack of food sounds pants, hope the weekend is ok, and Monday too.

Thanks all for the thoughts, hugs and reassurances, much appreciated. headless - not offended by your comment at all.

I know I shouldn't compare myself to other people, I know things are different for everyone, but I still feel like I'm not doing a very good job. And when people say things about how good/lovely/well behaved the girls are I feel worse - surely that should make it easier to cope with them? I feel like a failure because I'm struggling with two 'easy' children. , sorry. I've had two glasses of wine, not a good idea. Can I complain about DH too, please. He's going out cycling tomorrow, and will be out all day. I'd like a day off too!

Ski chalet - DH and I keep saying we'll retire to the Pyrenees, skiing in the winter and cycling in the summer. I miss skiing, hopefully we'll be able to go when the girls are a bit older.

We went to a 3rd birthday party today, slightly embarrassing because A was violently sick all over the 'dance floor' (clear space in a church hall!). She's not ill that I can see, just spectacularly sick everywhere!

Tummum · 05/03/2010 22:16

Younger wow, that sucks needing to fast. Like Reggiee said, best get it checked out in order to be reassured.

Wanted also to say to everyone thanks for all of your support on the going-back-to-work-being-a-bit-rubbish theme. I think I've been banging on about it too much so I'm going to try not to in future.

Febes Exciting news

Haven't heard from Fi from a bit. Hope you are OK. You too Belgina

Forgot to say Dandy I was at how finnickity the passport thingies are these days. I had to get a passport photo for G when he was 2 days old and trying to get a picture of him with the right dimensions was a total nightmare.

Hopalong how's the vino going

youngerthanspringtime · 05/03/2010 22:30

flippin, you're not a failure. and children aren't 'easy'. ever.

oh, and DO complain... it's your right here .

flippinegg · 05/03/2010 22:47

I'm off to bed, hopefully I'll feel a bit more positive (and certainly less squiffy!) in the morning. Thank you younger!

So, anyone got any great ideas what to do tomorrow with the girls but no husband? (and no friends!) Cold and sunny, no car. Feeding ducks would take quite a while.

Right, I'll stop waffling. See you all.

belgina · 05/03/2010 23:10

Hi everyone,
I've been making photobooks (2-4-1 offer on photobox) of our pictures. I've got 5 years worth of pics that I really should get sorted, so that's been taking a few nights and tonight DH has been hi-jacking the computer for some work related stuff.

Right, time for the big NC event now. You lot have been busy recently.

younger Boo to the diet, but hopefully it'll all be worth it to put your mind at rest.

saus at the detol wipes event and the no chewing comment. Babies chew, that's what they do, if you don't want a toy chewed on, then don't give it to a baby. Your friend definitely has a bad case of PFB.

tumm Sorry to hear that you and your DH are having some trouble. I suppose you're all stressed with you starting work. I think reggie has a good point about you having to ask you DH for some more work before you crash and burn.

Febes How exciting regarding your house. Our house is going really well. Lots of viewings and 2 offers! Both significantly lower than the asking price, but it's early days and we are aware that our asking price is probably a bit high. Still a good start and hopefully we'll get a decent offer soon.

headless I hope that meeting you had today wont mean bad news for you personally.

flip I hope you'll start feeling better soon. Do remember that when people say that your dds are so wonderful/well behaved etc... it's a sign that you are doing a good job, even though you don't feel like it. Maybe write down those nice comments and read them when you're feeling low to give yourself a boost . Also other people don't see your dds at home/at night and los tend to be well behaved amongst other people, so of course there are times you struggle and your dds are more than likely not easy all of the time. No child is, IMO.

muddled Good luck with the overn

dandy Oooh, passport photos... Don't get me started on those. What a faff we had this summer with C's pic.

Hinny Hope you're OK. Thinking of you.

Also wondering about fi

Thanks everyone with your lovely comments about my proud mummy moment.

radio I'm a radio1 girl myself. I don't actually like radio 2 that much. DH sometimes listen, but the music isn't quite too my liking. A bit too much old music and I don't like the voice of some of the DJs (but don't ask me what they're called). Sorry, don't want to offend anyone. DH and I tend to have radio wars. R5live versus R1. Whoever gets to the radio 1st wins, but reserves the right to chance the station when the other one pops out of the room

I hope I haven't forgotten anyone. If I have: my apologies.

breast milk I did have a word with DH and ap about my EBM and have now told them that I am not going to be nice and have it defrosted and ready for them. They can take it out of the freezer themselves when they plan to feed C.
Was a bit annoyed when I came home from work (well, manual handling training) today, because C didn't have any toys to play with, except for a book and a teething ring. The same bits that were out this morning when I left. No one clearly bothered to get some more toys out. They said she was happy, but that's not the point. It just made it look like no one paid any attention to C and that made me feel sorry for her. It was after 5 when I got home and no one had even started dinner, so I made it myself. I had a moan at DH about it and will from now on tell both of them that I do not want to cook on days I work, because I want to come home and have a cuddle and play with the dcs. There are 2 other adults in the house who are perfectly capable of cooking dinner too. So there you go. Rant over.

No embarrasing bodies here (apart from stubbly legs and baby spread ) - Heavy Metal night on BBC4. DH and I showing our age and lack of trendiness.

DH has got us tickets to see Paloma Faith. He keeps on about how she reminds him of me in some photos (about 15 years ago and definitely pre-baby). I think this is his way of trying to get 'us' back on track... I'm really glad he cares but I just wish I felt I had a bit more energy... at the moment all I fantasise about is 8 hours sleep .

flippin I'm sure that your girls are so fab because of you and how well you care for them in the difficult times as well as the 'easy' ones. Everyone tells me how lovely and jolly and smiley H is, but they don't see him when he's screaming every evening after his bath or when he's up for the umpteenth time in the night.

younger fasting... oh my goodness. I'm sure it will be fine - as Reggiee and Tummum say, best to get checked out for peace of mind.

Thanks for the lovely comments about H. Of course, to me, he is adorable, but it's lovely to hear other people say so too .

Right, better get to bed... he hasn't woken up yet but I'm sure it won't be long.

Jael · 06/03/2010 00:04

Hi everyone gosh I'm on late tonight!
I hope everyone has a lovely weekend, I've got a busy one planned, so I won't be on again until Monday
I hope whatever everyone's doing, they have fun, I hope that sun stays out a little

Spangle Your pictures of H are absolutely beautiful, as always! I cannot wait to meet him! I wish we had a baby sensory closer to us but we don't

Belgina I loved your homemade costumes for your DC and I would have been very proud of your DS to, to get up and speak in front of friends/teachers etc, is very scary! Welldone to him!

Febes Congrats on getting your house up for sale, I hope it's a quick sale for you, fingers crossed!

Sausage I did giggle at your episode with your friend round for lunch, but in a good way. She thinks she's being a really good mom with the dettol wipes etc I carry them in my bag BUT don't use them around people's houses, but to clean tables/highchairs when we are out. Sounded like M did very well with her lunch though

Younger Good luck with your "fasting" over the weekend When I was in waiting for an op not so long ago, I had to go 2 days without food, I had a drip up, and that was just because I was waiting for an ultrasound aghhh the horrors of that experience! You'll have to be inventive with the ingredients you are allowed to have. And Jello comes in tons of flavours and colours, pineapple, lime, orange, blackcurrant,so if you're to keep away from the red one try one of them, we have o have the powdered SF in our house

Dandy Thanks for blocking me on FB. It is very easy to discover that you have. You commented on Spangles pictures, she then commented back, using your name, but I couldn't see your post...ta da...I know I'm blocked. I'm quite good at this FB malarky. Also if I now type your full name into the search bar, I cannot find you anymore...wooo...Remember,not so long ago I got blocked by ALL of my family members, so it's all abit blah to me now, being blocked. We already were not FB friends. You were just making it final, I get it, whatever I've done, I must deserve it.

Right that is all the name-checking from me I'm afraid. I'm tired. I'm up early in the morning to go to the florists, and then I think a visit to the graveyard is needed...

I'm sorry Hinny I hope you are ok, remember you're never alone
Over 500 people turns up to XXXXXXXXX funeral, it was immense. He was so loved, he was 22. Death is an awful awful thing, and really makes you appreciate what you have. It makes you want to hug the ones you love, just that little bit tighter...

Goodnight all,Happy Saturday+Sunday XX

Tummum · 06/03/2010 08:22

Jael I don't like confrontation, but I do want to clarify this so please take this comment this as intended - Dandy isn't on FB at all. I don't know why, and I hope that she's OK. Please be careful making judgements about things like you have about this because there may be other things going on that you just don't know about. I used to keep on deregistering from FB because I just got fed up with it when I was feeling down, and I wanted to stop spending so much time on the internet. I'm not saying this is the case (because I don't know) but don't think this thread is the place to have a go at each other about this sort of stuff.

flippinegg · 06/03/2010 08:41

thank you all. Right, the resolution for the weekend is to stop being so needy!

Belgina - glad you managed to have a word with DH and AP. Good plan about one of them cooking so you get to see the DCs, that's what they're there for! Really hope it all works out for you.

spangle - I wanted to watch heavy metal night too, but DH objected!

sausage - in my pit of misery last night, I'd forgotten about the Dettol wipes! I think I would be a bit miffed if someone came to my house and did that. But some of the highchairs you get in cafes are disgusting. LOL a bit about chewing the toys.

radio - DH and I mostly listen to 6 Music (has everyone signed the petition?), but I do sometimes listen to radio 4 (the Archers on Sunday morning, the food prgramme and soe of the comedy) and I have a big soft spot for Planet Rock! If I'm not around, DH will sometimes listen to Radio 1.

Couple of funny thinkgs I'd forgotten to tel you this week. A climbed out of her highchair! We have a Tripp Trapp, and we hadn't ben using the straps...until I found her in the middle of the dining table! I'd popped out of the room while the girls were at the table, and when I got back A had climbed out of her chair and on to the table. She was just sat there, looking really pleased with herself. Obviously I do realise it could have been terrible, but it wasn't and it was funny, and we do use the straps all the time now.

The other funny thing was that the window cleaer came to do our windows, when I was in the shower! We do have frosted glass in the bathroom, but still makes me . I'm sure window cleaners see a lot worse, but eek.

We had an ok night last night, A slept until 2 again, then came in bed with us, woke at 5, had a feed and went back to sleep until 7. Miraculously, DD1 slept until 7 too, it was really quite a nice surprise. DH has gone out on his bike, probably back about 6 this evening.

I'm going to look at a gym on Monday, I've decided I need to do something and that might be it. I'm missing doing any excercise, so if we can afford the gym, at least for a few months (depending on contracts etc), I'll give it a go. It's got a creche, so I could try to do stuff when DD1 is at the CM/pre-school/whatever we decide so only A would have to go there, and it's easy waling distance from the house. Of course, it might not work out - I might hate it, it might be too expensive (but we have budgeted for something). I've never been to a gym before though, so it's a bit scary! Always used to do classes or run/cycle outside.

Tummum · 06/03/2010 09:01

Flippin we have a Tripp Trapp chair also, and haven't needed the straps.. but your story has made me go dig them out ! And I leave DS in there loads because I think he's safe and contained there while I do stuff with the DDs. Eeek! Is your DH doing an audax today? My DH keeps banging on about wanting to do PBP again. Last time he did it was pre-DC and it killed our summer because he was out every weekend doing stupid distances. So I am trying to ignore his conversations.

Sausage agree with everyone else, dettol wipes on someone else's highchair is just PFB, IMO! We'll have to get a MN Ukulele orchestra going !

Belgina hope your chat with DH & AP goes well. When is your first shift at the front line? How are you feeling about it?

Hinny still thinking of you and your friends DP / DCs.

Have good weekends all.

flippinegg · 06/03/2010 09:10

tummum - yep, audaxing today! It's only a 150, but including travelling to and from the start it's a long day. Luckily for me, DH has no desire to do silly challenging distances like PBP, he stops at 400s usually.

lol at MN Ukelele Orchestra! I used to play the guitar very very badly, are the skills transferrable?!

Tummum · 06/03/2010 09:24

flippin 400 sounds pretty silly challenging to me. Apparently you need to do a SR series this year and next year to qualify for PBP, and as DH hasn't been on a bike since last year I'm hoping he doesn't get his bum in gear, which would be a real shame, honestly

I used to play the guitar really very badly when I was young. The Uke is much easier, IMO. But it is weird because the lowest string is a higher note than the previous one IYKWIM. Anyone else up for starting a MN Uke Orchestra ?!!

febes · 06/03/2010 09:30

Morning all!

I decided a few nights ago that I was going to stop feeding R in the night now that he was back to full health and eating loads of solids again. So the past 2 nights I haven't got up to him at all. The door closes at 7ish and opens at 6.30amish. He actually has slept really well. Both nights he has woken twice but goes back to sleep fairly quickly. I have found him right at the top of the cot in the mornings though so he must be wriggling around trying to find me . Hopefully he will stop waking up soon and sleep right through.

Jael This thread really isn't the place.

llareggub · 06/03/2010 09:37

Ooooh! I love the ukele orchestra! I saw them NYE on Jools Holland years ago and loved them at first sight. Lucky, lucky sausage! No point me buying one. I'm useless at musical instruments. I've never been able to do the whole reading music and counting thing. I spectacularly failed music GCSE although I have no idea why I was doing it.

Anyway.

I have skimmed through all the posts and I'd like to echo all of the posts supporting you Hinny regarding your friend. I'm so sorry to hear about it. I've been thinking about your friend and her family over the last few days. What to say?

FiByTheIcySea · 06/03/2010 09:41

quick post & run.. sorry went awol but I've had some unexpected enquiries for help following my crochet lion pattern (my only one currently for sale online!) so I've had to actually do some work on the computer in the evenings! Also dh & I have been talking more about our NS plans and figuring out/making sure what/why/where/when we still want to go..

will pop on tonight for a catch up and NC but just want to give hinny a huge hug. Stunned at the news of your friend truly awful news.
