llareggub · 14/02/2010 19:39

Oooh yes please.

Am in pain. I was lying on DS's bed reading a bedtime story and I lazily tried to pull a book off the shelf beside his bed when it fell off and somehow landed spine first onto my nose. Ouch. It hurts so much!

FiByTheIcySea · 14/02/2010 20:06

thanks belgina for the new thread.. can i interest anyone in a glass of my pink fizz i posted on our last thread before hitting refresh.. so going to post this here too.

I.. have.. tickets london here G and I come
FiByTheIcySea · 14/02/2010 20:16

dh & i did cards.. we don't usually do presents.. just spend the day together as a family. we had a lovely day.. went out for a wonder around, tea and cakes.. picnic style dinner for DS & we're just waiting on our curry arriving.

youngerthanspringtime · 14/02/2010 21:16

Thanks for the thread, Belgina, I quite like the title .

llare, ouch!

emmab, lovely anectdote about your dd saying I love you! priceless.

Fi, dh and I didn't do pressies either. but he did get the photo of H on canvas as a family surprise. I smile everytime I look at it, her gummy smile. she's so scrumptious.

flippinegg · 14/02/2010 21:28

Evening all! Lovely new thread, thank you belgina. And yes please, pink fizz sounds good.

Not much romance here - DH and I got a takeaway curry last night, and exchanged cards this morning, but that was it. What do you expect after 15 years together?! We had a nice day today, went to a local big house/estate for duck feeding and lunch in the cafe, lots of rain though!

essenceofSES · 14/02/2010 21:30

Thanks for the new thread Belgina! Lovely title - I just need to sort out my footwear for Fri. Think it'll just end up being comfy boots though.

younger - that print of H sounds gorgeous!

valentines - we normally do cards and little pressies. DH got me a petrol station card and petrol station flowers bought today Tbh, it doesn't matter where the flowers come from, they always make me melt

We did go out for dinner last night for Valentines/my birthday. We had 3 courses and it was scrummy and lovely to spend an evening out just the two of us. We had the ttc conversation and it's looking like we'll be trying again in the summer & I think our main problem will be finding the opportunity IYKWIM

belgina · 14/02/2010 21:49

Pink fizz is what the day requires, me thinks.

fi How exciting Hmm, maybe I should pre-order my tickets too. Or investigate a family ticket

younger The photo you got sounds lovely. Really thoughtful. My DH would never think to get anything like it.

Sounds like everyone had a nice Valentines. I did by DH a Valentine's card. Bought it nearly a month ago and it's still in it's wrapper in my car  I meant to give it to him before he left.

OP posts:
llareggub · 14/02/2010 22:02

I did buy a card but it wasn't a proper Valentine's card. I bought a plain card instead. I also bought him a bar of this chocolate from Sainsburys. I was very embarrassed when he noticed that it was 3 months out of date! I took it back and got a refund, a replacement and a £5 voucher.

belgina · 14/02/2010 22:14

llare Lol, I bought some of that chocolate for xmas presents, but ended up eating it myself. I had the balanced diet one and the no weight gain chocolate one. I thought they were really funny.

RUFUS SLEPT THROUGH!!

DS1 ONLY GOT OUT OF BED ONCE!!!!!

Back later for a proper catch up but had to come on to make the above announcement.

febes · 15/02/2010 08:52

Darn I missed the cocktails!

Just came on to say.......Happy birthday Ses!!

flippinegg · 15/02/2010 09:06

Happy Birthday Ses! headless - woohoo, that's fab. Seriously .

Exciting stuff here too - I've just emailed my boss to tell her that I want to apply for a career break and not go back to her poxy unit. Obviously I didn't say the last bit, but I thought it.

DD1 is at the childminder today, A is playing with her toast so I have a few minutes to mn! Nothing planned today. it's very cold and frosty here, and glorious blue skies so we ought to go out for a walk, although it's very tempting to stay in our PJs all day!

sausagewrappedinbacon · 15/02/2010 09:08

HellllLLLOOOOO!!!

Don't faint!

HUGE apologies for going AWOL. Been having a poo time. Mum had a lump in her breast so it was all systems go down there way for a while. I have been back and forth to Wiltshire every week since, like, EVER, and going with her to each hospital appointment, surgery, mammogram, doing her dressing changes, you name it. Yes, with M in tow. FORTunately, it is NOT cancer. The lump had pre cancerous cells in though, which pretty much meant that if it was left then it would have turned into something nasty. So annual mammograms from now on...

I also officially failed my PhD thing. Yes, 4 years in, the bastards. I have received no feedback or anything, just an automated letter with an electronic signature saying bugger off, basically. Not a word from my tutors. I can get an MSC out of it, but pffft to that when I already have one. SO cross!

AND I need an op on my hip, which is STILL gammy.

Ooh valentines. DH got me flowers and a nice book and a lovely fuzzy felt card. We did some Come Dine With Me esque cooking - him on Saturday night and me last night. I reckon I would have won (he used shop ravioli... I made spring rolls) but don't tell him.

Hey ho. Just a quick one as M is doing a marathon lap of upstairs. She has a nice new cold and the squits and her bits are nearly red raw. Huzzah for calpol that's all I say!

Soooooo.... what have I missed? What was all this sexybuilder nonsense?

sausagewrappedinbacon · 15/02/2010 09:09

Hm I still have a christmas name. Ooops. Lets change that....

hopalongsausage · 15/02/2010 09:11

Ok, so this pretty much sums me up at the moment. Don't call me hop though!

Porridge time!

hopalongsausage · 15/02/2010 09:12

Ooooooh this is sooooo exciting to be back!

flippinegg · 15/02/2010 09:24

Hellooooooo sausage, welcome back! Sorry to hear about everything that's been going on. Really glad they got your mum's lump now. Do you know when you'll have your op? And big fat raspberry to the PhD people. Can you ask for feedback? Or are you just forgetting about it now?

belgina · 15/02/2010 09:28

Hi hop erm sausage Glad to see you back. You've been sorely missed. Sounds like you had a stressful time with your mum, but I'm very glad it was caught well in time and that she's fine now. Poo about your Phd. All that work you've put into it too.

Headless Hurrah for the good night's sleep!!

flippin How exciting for you too. I hope they approve the career break. Not sure about the rules or weather they can refuse

ses Happy b'day!

Not the best night here. C did lots of snacking in the night. I think it was comfort rather than hunger, so if she does it again tonight I'll just cuddle her instead. She definitely didn't need to feed that much in the night, because she didn't eat her breakfast, just swept it all off her tray. I then couldn't get back to sleep after she stirred around 6, because it was too light outside!! I was sort of excited about that, because it means the days are definitely getting longer!
Other than that the start to the day wasn't all that good. DS had a biiiiigg paddy because I banned the ds for daytime playing. He sat there screaming and crying "I want my Deeeeyyeeeesssssss". C was very bemused by his behaviour to say the least. He's settled now and is finally doing some imaginative play with a paper plane, which is much nicer than seeing him sitting like a zombie on the sofa staring at a black boxy thing.

essenceofSES · 15/02/2010 09:33

Morning!

sausage - welcome back! Sorry you've been having a rough time. Thank goodness your mum is ok but that travelling to and fro must have been tough. Pants about PhD and hip too.

LadyH - yay for sleep!!

Thanks for birthday wishes.
Having a birthday of extremes so far. Great in that I'm currently sat in Starbucks waiting for my massage & facial that I have booked in 45mins and then mum is taking me out for lunch. I pick O up from nursery at 3pm before going round to see a friend. All pretty good, huh?!
On the flipside, DH has not got me a card or present from either him or O. I was looking forward to a card saying "to my mum". He reckons flowers yesterday and meal out Sat covers Valentines and my birthday.
To be fair, his family don't really do birthdays in a big way so I should probably just enjoy my massage and lunch and stop moaning!!

HeadlessLadyH · 15/02/2010 09:34

Hey there saus. Good to see you back but sorry to hear about your PHD, your hip and your mum's scare. Agree with flip big fat rasberry to the pHD peeps. It seems a bit unfair and harsh to just get an automated letter (WTF??) after 4 years graft. Glad to hear that they caught your mothers lump in time too.

A big happy birthday to ses. Hope you get some good pressies!

Flip wooo hoooo to your career break. Hope you get what you want.

So, beginning of half term here. Is it the same everywhere else? R gone to nursery today now that he is back on form so its me and DS1 today. My mum is coming up later so we may pop into town to take DS1 on the Big Wheel that has appeared there. She'll be staying to watch the Mens Downhill tonight as my brother will be there - lucky so and so has got a VIP box to watch it by the finishing line apparantly.

HeadlessLadyH · 15/02/2010 09:35

Ooopps x post there ses. to have mentionned pressies but still, a massage and facial, thats a damn good start to the day!!

flippinegg · 15/02/2010 09:47

Well, I'd typed a reply and MN lost it.

Ses - enjoy the massage and facial! I think I'd be a bit miffed about the lack of card and present, the Valentines argument doesn't wash with me I'm afraid!

In theory work can turn down my request for a career break, but I have never known them turn one down for family reasons - they have to be seen to be family friendly, don't they?! Anyway, it'd be easier for my unit, they don't have to find me things to do and pay me if I'm not there1

youngerthanspringtime · 15/02/2010 10:22

Hi all!
sausage, good to see you and so sorry about the Phd, rubbish I say. is there a next step?

ses, Happy Birthday! Hope you have a marvellous day, will be th inking of you.

ladyH, great about sleeping! I know how you feel after you've had a good night . here, after a few days of sleeping through, dd1 got up 3x last night. luckily, I feel rested anyway after the weekend.

have decided to put dd2 (2.5) on the potty today since it's halfterm and no trips to pre school. so far one accident, no wee/poo on potty. but I can't go back now, can I? will be back on to catch up with the rest of you (belgian, flippin, febes, llare, fi, etc).

hope you have a great day.

HeadlessLadyH · 15/02/2010 10:26

younger best of luck with the potty training today.

It feels a bit strange here with no baby in the house. I keep waiting for someone to need a nappy change or a bottle. He's not here .

hopalongsausage · 15/02/2010 13:39

Ooooh Headless must be weird with no baby squidging about!

Happy birthday ses - I'd be grumpy too if I didn't get a card or a present. I gave DH a valetines card from me, and one from M. He looked a bit sorry when he said M 'hadn't got me one'. Also was a bit sheepish when I pointed out that this is our 3rd valentines day together and not our 2nd like he wrote in the card...

Younger... oooh I don't know you... have you name changed?!

PhD knobs people.... that's pretty much it. The next exam board meets next month and they will decide then if I can have an MSc. It was hell trying to get through to the person who sent me the crappy standard 'bugger off but before you do return any library books' letter - he actually had no idea (stupid electronic signature thing) so I had to be put through to someone else. My tutor didn't answer some of my questions in an email prior to hand in, and when she told me (on email) that the 'ratified results will be after the exam board meet on 14th Jan', I emailed STRAIGHT back and asked if I could get any unratified results before then. She never replied. I have also emailed the deputy director of nursing at my hospital who was also going to be my supervisor and she hasn't emailed back either. Ggrr. Still. Fingers up to them when I go into work to meet my manager this Thursday with my letter of resignation!

OH YES! I am going to become a full time mummy!!!!!! I have to work 3 months otherwise I have to pay back the maternity pay, but as I've got so much accrued leave to take PLUS leave from when I go back, I have worked out I will be working only 15 days till I go! Have also found out that lots of changes have been made at work which have really irked other clinical nurse specialists (like wot I am) so I won't be sorry to go.

SO NER TO THEM!

AND we are moving AGAIN. This time for real. We are selling up as DH's work are putting him in charge of the department in their Bristol office, so we are looking around Cirencester way. So far we have had about 15 viewings. No-one is interested. Pah.

Yes - BIG relief re Mum's lump scare. I've cried so much over the last few weeks, mostly terrified thinking of the worst. Phew.

Why does my daughter want to eat a ruler?
