Where are you living heather? It's meant to snow here, too (Surrey) soon. I'm hoping for a snow day!! I won't get my hopes up too much!

Why won't that website work on the computer because of the snow? That's weird. I thought it would just be the TV...?

50ftQueenie · 05/01/2010 09:42

Star - I think my natural colour is mid/dark brown with a reddish tint. I am going to dye it dark brown when I get more than five minutes to myself! It does dry your hair out but there are so many excellent conditioners out there that help to improve the condition. Which, I suppose, is another expense associated with colouring. Highlights or slices wouldn't dry your hair out as much as a complete colour change.

Today I am ill. Hmm - I think that P has given me her sickness bug via the internet. I was sick last night and feel rubbish today. I have some cherry drops as they are the only thing I can stomach this morning. It must be a bug as M ad I have eaten the same thing & I expect her tummy is more delicate than mine but she's fine. I have however discovered that M must be double 'ard as I discovered the points of her first molar had come through. She made a little bit of fuss the other morning but it was only for about five minutes. Tough as old boots that girl of mine.

StarExpat · 05/01/2010 09:45

oh just read that more carefully. The pipes at my school would be highly unlikely to freeze. They just have people working around the clock to make sure all facilities are running and take too many steps to prevent problems! I know it's nice, but I'd like a snow day!!

StarExpat · 05/01/2010 09:48

Sorry to hear you're ill 50ft
Molar wow!

Q woke screaming - like a shrill school girl's scream - twice last night and in the morning. And flipped over and arched his back while he did it. Could that be teeth? I'm afraid to stick my finger in now because he just bites down and his teeth hurt! He's being a total PITA about brushing his teeth, too. Loves to carry around a toothbrush but kicks up a big fit when I brush them. I've had to hold his arms down to do it lately don't call ss on me!

heather1980 · 05/01/2010 10:00

i meant the sky isn't working coz of snow on the dish, i may go aim some snow balls at the dish to try and dislodge some snow.
we are in manchester. it is still snowing a blizzard outside and it's freezing cold, my gas bill is going to be huge!

StarExpat · 05/01/2010 10:05

How much do people normally pay in gas per month? For a 1 bed flat? We pay £58 in gas and £50 in electricity... It's just the same rate every single month. Surely it should vary based on how much is used? I never thought about that...

heather1980 · 05/01/2010 10:32

my gas and electric is about £250 in the winter and £150 in the summer. we have a 2 bed terraced house.
when you pay by direct debit it evens out over the year so in arrears in the winter and in credit in the summer.

Oh my goodness! Myjob! Have you seen the weather forecast for your area? The Met are forecasting up to 40cm of snow! They have issued an extreme weather warning. Eeeek!

SURELY they'll close up if it gets too bad Myjob! Here is it. I didn't want to scare you but you do need to prepare yourselves if it does get that bad. Hopefully it won't get as bad as all that.

50ftQueenie · 05/01/2010 12:53

Obviously I meant here it is, not is it.

Am I the only one who gets a bit fed up that in this country we see a flurry of snow and we stay indoors, crying the world is going to end.
We go to France most years looking for as much snow as we can find. Towns are never closed, even the mountain roads are never closed!
How do people who live in cold countries just get on with it. What happens to our British stiff upper lip.

I am grumpy because my antibiotics are not helping and I am faced with the prospect of three days with the girls at home constantly fighting and shouting and wanting to go out sledging. Bloody school. They only shut because the council wont grit the hill which runs up to it.
Sorry.

I just visited a possible preschool for Q for October when he turns 2. I'm a bit sick thinking about it. But it was a lovely little preschool.

50ftQueenie · 05/01/2010 13:42

I agree on the whole Ronshar but have sympathy with Myjob as they are in a very remote place with unlit country roads as they only way to and from their village. Round my way it's ridiculous as we are in a town. The roads were very icy as the council was woefully under-prepared. I think it's the lack of preparation that winds me up the most. With the snow this time there was plenty of warning. No excuse. When we were young the schools were only closed if the heating broke (which it regularly did). I think it is health and safety issues that mean they have to close the schools these days. DH did do a fabulous skid down a bit of a hill on the way home from CSWS's because he didn't realise how icy it was.

Pistachio - Your flat has very high ceilings doesn't it? We have 9.5 ft ceilings so I think that is where all the heat ends up. I have often considered buy very high furniture to see if I can benefit from the heat without it costing a fortune! Oh and round faces stay youthful for longer.....

heather1980 · 05/01/2010 13:44

i think i am pistachio. she's not my baby anymore and is growing up and becoming a little independant and a person in her own right.
i know that she'll love it and i was looking forward to enjoying some time just alex and i but now i'm pregnant i feel that it wont really be just the two of us iyswim.

ronshar · 05/01/2010 13:45

I know Pistachio, I followed an old dear this morning who hadn't even botherd to de-ice her car properly going at about 15 in a 30! At 8.45am. Get off the road until it isnt busy if you are not feeling safe to drive. OOO see I am grumpy.

Ekka, I used to send DD2 to playschool just so I could have days to my self. They were sometimes housework days, sometimes go back to bed days, hairdresser days, lovely days. I miss those days.

Star how many have you visited now? Was this one your favourite?

Heather. How old is DD now 2 or 3? By the time your new little bundle arrives you could be starting DS in preschool too

Myjob you may need to send DH into work with an extra pair of pants and his toothbrush. Oh and a sleeping bag just in case.
50ft are you as poorly as me. I am feeling really sorry for myself now. It has been coming up for three weeks since my cold first started.

50ftQueenie · 05/01/2010 13:51

I'm not as poorly as you Ronshar but I do feel your pain as that bout I had before Christmas was the worst I'd had for a long time. It took the antibiotics about 5 days to get things moving for me. I was starting to worry that I might need something stronger. Hopefully they'll start to work soon otherwise back to the doctor with you. (finds glasses, puts glasses on in order to adopt Ronshar stance).

ronshar · 05/01/2010 13:52

Myjob shall I lend you my snowboard. It is excellent for towing children around on the snow. However it may be a bit late to get it to you now.
I have just looked at the weather page you linked 50ft and that is alot of snow in one go!
And we are due to get some of it here. Brilliant.

Dh has said to not turn your heating off if you can help it overnight. It could save your pipes and boiler from having trouble starting in the morning.
He has started doing his Gas Safe course this week. He is travelling up to Chessington every day. Could be interesting for tonight and tomorrow. He is a little boring at the dinner table to be honest. I learnt about unvented systems last night. Well he told me, could begin to tell anyone else today

ronshar · 05/01/2010 13:53

AAARRRGGGG the over the glasses stare.

StarExpat · 05/01/2010 13:53

myjob I hope DH gets home ok!
Pistachio thanks for the idea - I feel really fat uncomfortable with short hair, unfortunately

heather I hope the day is passing by well for youtoday

Ronshar I visited a few so far. I like this one a lot. it's just the same problem with all of them. Getting him there in the morning. I have to be here for 8am. This one doesn't open until 9. I could keep him with me until 8.30 when kids arrive and get someone to drive him there (in traffic and after getting him in and out of the car should be just a few min early... although it's only 1.5 miles from my school! crazzzyyy traffic in the morning here). But not sure if that's an added expense that's worthwhile... ugh. what a pita
