just marking my place

aubergenie · 03/01/2010 17:34

Thanks for new thread CSWS.

I'm fed up. Another awful session at the childminder today. S wasn't just a bit upset, he was so distraught it took dp 15 minutes sitting in the car trying to calm him down (which didn't work). he's fine now, of course and my sister looked after him for an hour or so this afternoon at her house while I popped to the shops and he was fine then too, but bloody hell - I was really upset! I'm sure it's just a process that we have to go through, but I feel like a sh*t parent at the moment.

StarExpat · 03/01/2010 19:18

You're a great parent, aubergenie - otherwise this wouldn't bother you at all It's normal. Especially as he's older now and experiencing more separation anxiety. He will be ok with time.
Did dp bring him back in after the 15 minutes or did you end up going home since he didn't calm down?

aubergenie · 03/01/2010 19:39

Thanks Star. He didn't take him back because it was the end of the hour's settling in that we'd agreed. He apparently stopped crying for a short while but then started again and couldn't be stopped or calmed down (same thing yesterday too).

He's going to do a short day tomorrow so we'll see how it goes, but DP was very upset because he's never seen S like that before. Nor have I actually - we've always been able to calm him down easily. I know it's just going to take time but I totally underestimated how hard he would find it, and how much it would bother me.

StarExpat · 03/01/2010 19:41

Sorry aubergenie. That can be so hard
I hope tomorrow goes better for you. Do you know the cm well? Or other kids going to her? Can you ring/text her during the time to see how it's going?

Thanks ladies. It's nice to know that I can get a sympathetic ear (or should that be fingers?). I don't know her well, Star, but we used to do a yoga class together and a friend of mine sends her little boy there one day a week. If you've left your LO crying she always sends a text to let you know when they've stopped.

I've just asked her to email me some photos of her and her children so that we can show them to S and talk to him about them. We do that at school for the children with special needs to help them transition into a new class - make a little book with a picture of their new teacher, classroom, friends etc.

at ds's growth sput Pistachio! I've put some weight on this holiday too. I know that once I get back to work again it'll come off again, but my jeans are definitely a bit snugger than they were...

CantSleepWontSleep · 03/01/2010 20:50

I'm sorry to hear that S is having such a hard time adapting so far aubergenie. Is he used to being around other children without you right by his side, perhaps from toddler groups?
I like to think that all the time I've invested sitting around eating biscuits building up ds' social skills like this have helped him to become independent, and he was certainly absolutely fine the 2 times that I left him with a cm recently whilst I was at hospital appointments. It might just be down to different personalities though. I'm sure that S will get there soon. The photos sound like a good idea. My ds did have the advantage of having seen the cm at one of the toddler groups on a number of occasions.

Well we had a lovely weekend with the 50footers. M was so funny jiggling along to the Peppa Pig music and oinking! And the 2 older dc got on really well again . I do like it when people make themselves at home here, and 50ft made herself so at home that she was still in her pajamas when they left after dinner!!!!!

Happy New Year all, I hope you don't mind me popping in as an occasional poster? I spent the new year holding a crying baby, but at least I didn't have a hangover in the morning

Aubergenie DS1 was like this when he stated nursery and he was fine after as while (I think a couple of weeks it was so long ago I can't really remember). The best thing we found to do was to not prolong the parting and just cheery a goodbye (and then sob my heart out in the car). It may also help for him to take a toy fmo home or something else familir?

aubergenie · 03/01/2010 21:41

Glad you had a good weekend with the 50fter CSWS.

I take S to some kind of activity with other children on the days when I'm at home, sometimes twice a day and DP did the same. I know quite a few parents in the area and so usually let S get on with it while I chat, as long as he's not in mortal danger. That's why I'm kind of surprised at his reaction. When I was on mat leave, I used to put him in a creche every week while I did a yoga class (ah, those were the days!) and he was fine, but I maybe that's because he was younger.

Happy new year Hedgepig. Thanks for the reassurance and good advice. I guess we'll just have to see how it goes tomorrow.

aubergenie · 03/01/2010 21:50

50footers

Honeymoonmummy · 03/01/2010 22:21

Hey all, Poppy is still not great but has improved slightly, she now has exploding nappies... Poor thing was so lethargic and drowsy yesterday that we ended up ringing the NHS helpline. She's not eaten much at all yesterday or today, except for mummy milk, I've had to feed her during the day. I've taken a days' holiday tomorrow as the nursery has a 24 hour policy on vomiting and diarrhoea. So I have a one day repreive.... TBH I was quite looking forward to it, altho I was working from home tomorrow anyway, I am kind of looking forward to going back to work and giving Paul the chance to look after Poppy on a solo basis (he's working 2 days a week and looking after her 3 days)

What's all this about a meet-up? I must have missed it.

Oh and I was thinking of giving POppy a pillow, this may be a stupid question but can we give them normal pillows or does it have to be a special one?

heather1980 · 03/01/2010 22:52

alex has a normal pillow. he's had one since he was 11 months.

Honeymoonmummy · 03/01/2010 23:01

Cheers Heather.

I need some new GHD's, has anyone got the wider ones and are they good for long straight hair or should I stick to the standard ones? I'm going to bed now but I'll check for replies tomorrow!!

50ftlonglistofResolutions · 03/01/2010 23:25

Back tomorrow..... sleepy now.

50ftlonglistofResolutions · 03/01/2010 23:27

Oh, I mean back tomorrow evening. Am banning myself from the laptop during the day in the hope that I will instead do something useful.

CSWS - I did have a bath and am now back in my PJs. Fabulous!

jenwa · 04/01/2010 08:27

Hi all
Thanks for new thread

aubergenie Ahh poor S and poor you, I am sure he will settle in time it justs takes a while to adapt. I know it is easy to say but it is hard to see them so upset.

hm eek to the exploding nappies, poor P though. I hope she gets better. Sounds like a bug. Meet up at Ronshars on 17th. I dont think I will make it as it rather far for a day. I will have a think though. P has no pillow yet she seems fine without. We gave one to dd1 when she went in to a bed at 2yrs.
Straightners, I never liked the bigger ones when my hair was really long, found them to akward to use to be honest. I would stick to wstandard. I actually got some remington ones after my GHD's died and they are really good and alot cheaper.

All ok here. P getting more teeth and the late mornings have gone! We were getting sleep ins until 8:30 but she has woken up at 7 ish the last few. She had a cry at 5:30 this am but went back off, I think its her teeth.

50ft good luck with the internet ban and shopping ban and any other bans too

StarExpat · 04/01/2010 08:53

GHDs???
given context... a guess - great hair decorations?

StarExpat · 04/01/2010 09:29

8.30
I thought we were sleeping in when Q slept until 6.30am!
I'm at work today Kids are having their snack. I am lucky that Q is happy, but I wish I could bring him with me.
I have 2 new students today and they are just lovely

CantSleepWontSleep · 04/01/2010 09:40

GHDs are hair straighteners star - renowned for being the best on the market.

oh I have straight hair that never does anything other than hang straight, so I wouldn't know about hair straighteners... or understand why anyone would want their hair to be plain and straight! I can't tell you the number of things I tried as a child and teenager to get curls or waves.... sleeping with braids, curlers, hot curling irons...etc. Nothing lasted for longer than about 30 min. Sleeping in wet braids lasted 1.5 hours, though until the last wave was gone!

StarExpat · 04/01/2010 10:33

Oh... Q has started saying "Dad" it's more like "daaaaaaaaad" or sometimes... "dadadaaaaaaad" but definitely ending consonant d. So proud! I think he's saying "mumumumu mamamama" to me, though and that tickles my heart fiercely!
