It all sounds very confusing! I think I'll cross that bridge when I come to it. Terrifyingly, I'm qualified to teach nursery although I have absolutely no experience (apart from a few days placement when training.) I have a secret dread that our head will put me down there one year and I'll have absolutely no idea what to do with them all. We'd just be singing Wind the Bobbin up all day.

I don't know if this is useful to anyone, pre-Christmas (you're all probably far more organised than me and have finished shopping) but if you sign up to the Mhoula website using the link here, you can get discounts at various lovely sites. I just ordered a coat (and some pressies) from Oliver Bonas that was already in the sale and got a further 20% off.

50ftChristmasTree · 16/12/2009 07:56

I think that maybe our nursery was a bit of a hybrid. Is that possible? It is a Montessori nursery and has a pre-school/Montessori room. DS was already at the top of year R stuff when he left nursery and started school because they did so much work with him. It's lost its Montessori status now which is another reason for not sending M there. It is also closely linked to the school DS goes to as there is no pre-school attatched to the school. I agree it sounds confusing. I just went for the nursery that most people recommended and that had the best security system.

I guess what I want is to send him to a school where the staff have qualified as teachers or montessori teachers who can teach "nursery" age or preschool (AND who have experience with this age group! ). I don't want to send him to a nursery where there are just nursery nurses or teenagers young people who are perfectly capable of taking care of children, but not qualified as teachers with experience as teachers of this age or who have trained to teach this age iyswim.
It depends on the school/nursery as to what is offered. I think terminology gets muddled and best just to check out what the day is like, what is offered, and who the teachers are.

I don't need a full day of childcare because I am also a teacher. I see no need to send him to an 8am-6pm nursery when I only work school lhours. Also, preschools/nursery schools operate only during term time and it's more of a "school" than a childcare setting iyswim. I only need him there when dh and I are in session - we don't work all year long and have all the school holidays, so why pay for that time, too is what I'm thinking as well.

I made home made truffles last night!

Can't believe it worked! Hard outside, ganache inside...mmmmm going to make more tonight as those were my practice ones

50ftChristmasTree · 16/12/2009 08:34

Practice ones eh? Is that code for "I ate them all"?

OP posts:
StarExpat · 16/12/2009 08:37

hahaha!! No, actually DH did eat half of them! But the other half (minus 1!) are still in the refrigerator. They just don't look as pretty as I'd like them to look, so will do it again tonight now that I know the tricks

CantSleepWontSleep · 16/12/2009 09:13

do home made truffles need dairy? I would love home made truffles.
Although right now I'd love any food! Still waiting for first test, which is unusual as they normally start gtt's as soon as you arrive because they take hours anyway. Maybe they are waiting for another gtt to arrive too.

StarExpat · 16/12/2009 09:15

good luck csws
I hope all is well and you'll have "nowt" to worry about

I used creme fraiche when mixing the chocolate for the centre ganache. Maybe there's a way around this?

StarExpat · 16/12/2009 09:16

btw I've changed settings and taken away pages. Much much better!

50ftChristmasTree · 16/12/2009 09:29

Oh poor you CSWS. That's no fun. I hope you have your test soon and things can get moving. Hope it's the right result.

Star - Test batch would be safely stored in my stomach by now which is part of the reason you're tiny and I'm the size of a house!

Right I have a question..... Do your toddler's (not babies anymore are they ) top front teeth look MASSIVE? M's look huge and I am hoping it is juts because she is so tiny still. I don't remember ds have such a huge set of gnashers but that is probably because I don't remember much about him being this age. I hope she isn't going to have a big pair of tombstone teeth right at the front. I might have to get her a paperbag to wear..... Oh vanity thy name is 50ft.

I was going to say "except N as I am sure Myjob won't like me calling her a toddler". How are you feeling now? My sinuses are rumbling again, I think it's the cold weather.

What about my teeth worry? Am I going to have to go on FB and examine the photos of your babies? [obsessed]

I saw three flakes of snow while was out, only three though.

Heh heh. M is definitely a toddler now Myjob. I thought I was probably being silly and hideously vain but wanted to check. I don't fancy having Alvin for a daughter.

OP posts:
StarExpat · 16/12/2009 12:37

lol. No, Q has big front teeth, too
Q is definitely a toddler, too. But I still call him a baby quite often.

He slept from 7pm - 5am last night without waking at ALL
After than more than 3 hour nap yesterday, too. Of course, I didn't sleep...
I had dinner plans with my friend who looks after him... but then she was having a hard time (emotionally) and then just never text me back - even after I asked if she wanted to talk? Is everything ok? ...etc... NO response, so no dinner And I was up pretty much the whole night worrying that something horrible had happened to her! Worst of all, I have asked her about it today, she ignores it... I don't even think she thinks it's that big of a deal. I know it's not about ME, it's about HER, but I have feelings, worries and emotions too ffs!

StarExpat · 16/12/2009 12:38

myjob I haven't eaten all of the truffles because if I did that I wouldn't be able to eat until well after xmas dinner!!!

It's SNOWING here and so beautiful. Just froze my a off at recess with the kids but they all loved it.

btw we have no plans for christmas dinner. Just the three of us as no family can come after all

We will skype family and friends later in the evening when it's afternoon their time, but other than that, just presents and a warm meal together... Q will probably nap... is that horrible? I feel like everyone has huge plans for christmas and so much to do to prepare...

DH and I used to go snowboarding over christmas. That was fun. Can't leave the country with Q yet, though. ugh!

StarExpat · 16/12/2009 12:51

lol at poppers flying open when he runs

Q is like that with his 6-12 month stuff (understandably) and 1 pair of 12-18s. But, he wears disposables.

50ftChristmasTree · 16/12/2009 12:54

DS does indeed have still have his milk teeth but they are very worn as they should be coming out soon (he has one wobbly tooth, he's the last in his class to still have all his milk teeth). I know it's a silly vain thing to worry about but I was looking at them this morning and thought "bloody hell those are some gnashers"!

Star - It's snowing here too now. Some people have no consideration of others. My ex was like that, but it's hard not to worry when you care about someone.

at ejecting them from the bedroom pistachio. I do that to my dh too!

This is a really hard time of year for her - a lot has happened at this time previously, she's got a lot on her plate emotionally. She did tell me before her counseling session that afternoon that she was feeling like things were too much and she needed the session... but then she didn't bother to text me afterward!! I text asking if everything was ok and if she wanted to talk and then later, finally that I assumed dinner was off... not a word. Not a word until this morning when I nearly had to find someone else to look after Q but she was feeling better in time and I cancelled the other person after rushing to get out the door (we have to leave 15 min earlier to get to my back up).
I really really want what's best for her and for her to be happy but I feel like she can't see that.
I feel ill and sooooo exhausted today from being up all night worrying and checking my phone to see if she had just text "i'm ok" or something. Nothing.
It doesn't matter. I honestly feel better when others feel good. So, it doesn't really matter if I'm sad, I'll get over it.
