I take it all back. DP has said that of course I should still go out, as I've been looking forward to a day to myself for ages. Whether I actually will is another matter, as he's not looking too clever at the moment, but it was very sweet of him.

StarExpat · 20/12/2009 11:49

Q can CLAP!

Finally! He'll still only do it on his terms and not on command.... but he does it! YAY!

LOL aubergenie about polenta to an italian.
I don't understand the paella - I thought it was made with egg?

LOL to HMM about missng the df and GD from csws.

I never wear foundation either. Too much hard work. I started wearing mascara when I go somewhere without Q like a grown up... makes a big difference.

CantSleepWontSleep · 20/12/2009 12:21

Def go aubergenie!

Paella most definitely doesn't contain egg star. I can't think what you are muddling it with. Frittata maybe?
It should contain saffron though shouldn't it pistachio?

I get my eyelashes tinted if I want to look glamourous for a spell. I rub my eyes too much for mascara.

StarExpat · 20/12/2009 12:25

aubergenie You should definitely go! I've looked after Q when I've been ill before on my own (as I'm sure you have with S) and both of us survived. Your dp will be fine

Spanish omlette. lol. I'm an idiot. Does it all stick together?

StarExpat · 20/12/2009 12:27

do you cook the rice beforehand or does the rice cook with the stock just like risotto?

CantSleepWontSleep · 20/12/2009 13:51

Rice cooks with stock like a risotto. It doesn't stick together no.

Ekka · 20/12/2009 14:09

Aubergenie - I second your reaction to dh's illness. I hate to admit it, but that is usually my first reaction to dh falling ill on a weekend....

CSWS - I'm sorry I'm really bad at diet stuff so I don't have much to offer except sympathy. Eeek to D's reaction to seafood. Ds is definitely allergic to fish & seafood (except salmon, tuna and plaice) but he hasn't had a noticeably swollen mouth, just hives all over his face and hands, and as I say, luckily it doesn't seem to affect him when I eat it. Sadly I've been looking around on the internet and allergy sites and it does seem that fish/seafood allergy is one that often lasts past childhood . But here's hoping D and M prove that wrong.

Pepper, poor dd. I hope that she feels better now? Here's hoping for a healthy Xmas for you all....

My parents' car's battery has died so they are waiting for the AA to come out to start it before they can head over here. I should be vacuuming/tidying but decided to mn instead!!!!

Yes to make up needing to be thrown out, contamination on brush and eye infections especially mascara and eyeliners. I use brushes to put on eye shadows and try to keep them clean and you should replace your mascara every 3-4 months!!! I usually get 2 a year though.
Lilac is not a good colour on my eyes unless I have a base like cream on otherwise I look like I have been crying or have an eye infection! I tend to use creams browns or greens/khaky colours. I have loads and had to get rid of lots recently. I tend to buy Max factor the colour aidapt foundation is great and does not make you look too heavily made up and their eye shadows are nice but I am in to bourjois at the moment and they have lovely stuff at the mo. Also lots of 3 for 2's in boots at the mo.

csws I would have also said Jem as I know one too.

aubergenie receipes look good, I am so crap recently so need to do some proper cooking again soon, Will keep a note of those.

Right got to go, P keeps climing on the sofa and falling off!!!!

Got a unslept baby today, she has refussed to go to bed so will be in bed early tonight, mind you she was in bed at 6:15 last night and up this am after 8 so I cant really moan, she just normally has 2 sleeps in the day too.

Tescos coming tonight and then I am ready for xmas...yeh, just 3 things left to wrap then all done unless I need to call to supermarket before fri which I am sure I will do the way my children are eating me out of house and home.

I meant to say that I always used to rub my eyes and make them sore until I wore make up, it stopped me doing it!

Waiting for tescos to come now as kids in bed as DH popped to work.

myjob glad you felt good today, its nice to have positive comments.

StarExpat · 20/12/2009 20:02

oh cool, we have tumeric. I can make the paella - without the prawns
and without the onions I really really do not like the texture of onions. I even eat passata pasta sauce (or make my own from pureed tomatoes and basil and italian seasonings) just plain because can't deal wth the texture of little onion bits in regular sauces! yuck yuck yuck.

Q always spits out the outer bit of chickpeas, otherwise he likes them.
I often sit there peeling off the top bit so he'll eat them.

Nice to see you Jenwa!

I will use onion powder, just not actual onions. I can't deal with the texture. Not sure why... I've never liked it. It's a real problem with lots of ready meals...etc. If it says "onions" in the ingredients then yuck yuck yuck. I just KNOW I'll crunch into one and feel like vomiting.
lol you are all looking at me like I'm some freak of nature now!

CantSleepWontSleep · 20/12/2009 20:55

I have just made final amendments to my ocado order coming on Tues night. How the F**k have I managed to spend £440 when we only have 2 guests for 1 day?! Have included a few bits that will last for new year visitors, but not that much. Cripes. They'd better be able to get here through snow and ice!

Poor ds is in a right sorry state. He's been sickening with a bad cold for a few days, but today he is sooooo hoarse, and he's basically just squeaked in an almost sobbing voice at us all day .

CantSleepWontSleep · 20/12/2009 20:56

There is a mumsnetter with a dd who was allergic to onions until she was over 3!

aubergenie · 20/12/2009 21:13

Bloody hell CSWS - I hope you'll all be eating like kings for the next few weeks for that. I hope your ds gets it all out of the way before Christmas.

Well done for trying something new Myjob! Sometimes it's good to challenge yourself a bit isn't it. And it's a real boost to get some nice compliments.

All this talk of make-up has reminded me that I've got £30 of Boots points to use up. I think I might treat myself to some nice new make up. And actually start wearing it a bit more often. I was reading a thread about people who wear full make up even when they're at home all day. I just couldn't imagine doing that.

Oh, and I did go out this afternoon. Met a friend. And it was lovely to be able to have a proper in-depth chat without having to keep checking on S/keep him entertained.

aubergenie · 20/12/2009 21:14

Star - is it just the texture of onions that you don't like, or the flavour as well?

StarExpat · 20/12/2009 21:15

I think I'm allergic, too

Poor DS csws

That's a LOT on groceries! Maybe you should have done a tesco or sainsbury shop!

I actually did the math one day. Filled up my basket on Ocado, sainsburys and tesco. Same stuff. Some different name brands, but basically same stuff. HUGE cost difference between them. I don't order from Ocado anymore now that I pay for childcare bring on 2011 when Q has half a day free!

StarExpat · 20/12/2009 21:17

just the texture, aubergenie. Can't stand it when I'm eating something soft and then I crunch and onion or if it's a soft onion, I feel it on my tongue ew!

myjob - congrats on the compliments! (I missed your post earlier... sorry!)
And YAY to N for walking more

aubergenie · 20/12/2009 21:26

But waitrose does sell lovely stuff. And the service is great. We did a Tesco order last week and they were more than an hour later than the time slot. We had to ring and chase them to find out what was going on. If that was Ocado they'd have given us half of it free or something.

Our local supermarket is Morrison. Very cheap but not very exciting.

StarExpat · 20/12/2009 21:28

I know, I can't wait until I can shop regularly at waitrose and M&S again. I do get small shops for nice things from both places as waitrose is on my way home from work and M&S is across the street from our house... but try to do the bulk of shopping for essentials at tesco.

StarExpat · 20/12/2009 21:29

Never been to a morrison....
Been to asda... will not likely go again... sorry to offend anyone. I'm all for and in need of cheap... but... only so much I can take!

CantSleepWontSleep · 20/12/2009 22:19

I go to Morrison's occasionally just to get Batchelors mint sauce flavour mushy peas, as they are the only place that seems to sell them these days, and I grew up on them!

We pop to Asda for a few bits quite regularly (well, dh does when the dc are in bed and he wants to get out for a bit because he's been in the house all day). Their diet drinks don't contain aspartame, so are our brand of choice.

We do have a nice (I hope!) 3 bird roast in that for £60, but have prob gone a bit mad on veg which will go off before we get round to using it . And we have nice fish, and chicken thigh fillets, and washing powder which all bump it up. Oh, and a small amount of beer for new year and a bottle of decent rum.

We won't even have leftover turkey for my traditional bulk make of post Christmas turkey curry this year!

I have only 1 hour left to amend the order if I've forgotten anything. What's the betting I wake up at midnight realising something essential is missing?!

Don't worry though, I've remembered the sprouts!

Honeymoonmummy · 20/12/2009 23:16

Toilet rolls
Washing up liquid
Stuffing mix
Tin foil
Gravy granules (you prob make yours from scratch)
Toothpaste
Resolve

Hi all,

Yeah, I love Waitrose too, got an Ocado order last week and I managed to spend over £200. I just can't resist all the stuff for Poppy you can't get elsewhere. The most recent is the Babylicious Spag Bol, she loved it. I meant to ask actually, what is the difference between Ocado and Waitrose websites? I thought everything went thro Ocado but there seems to be an ordering system on the Waitrose site?

I really need to sort out the make-up situation, I just wear a bit of light pink all the time which I'm sure people can't even see. I want to go back to work looking the part. I also want my teeth whitened, a facelift and a boob job but hey ho.

Anyway, I'm off to bed. Myjob, I'm glad you made the effort and got some nice comments, I hope you're feeling OK x
