yay for G - clever little girl!

Febes good idea to post in the sleep section. No real advice about the night-time wakings - I'm a bit of a lightweight and feed H back to sleep so we all get some rest, but it's beginning to get to me and am thinking of doing something about it. Re the naps, possibly R is changing his routine? Or maybe he needs you with him while falling asleep? H has been difficult to get down for morning naps just lately - he looks tired so I take him down and feed him but when I put him in his cot he wakes up, all lively and rolling around and shouting. I sit with him until he gets tired and cross again, pick him up/cuddle/feed - repeat 2 or 3 times until he either falls asleep at the boob or sucking his thumb in his cot. If I walk out and leave him he just gets cross. It's all very time consuming and I guess not practical with more than one DC.

I might have another read of No Cry Sleep Solution and maybe have a go at that next week when we're back to a normal routine.

Febesisachristmascracker · 01/01/2010 13:23

Spangle I'm sure he would love me to stay with him while falling asleep but what would I do with DD?? He is up now and playing happily no sign of tiredness but he has been awake since 8.30 so nearly 5 hours .

Fi Well done clever G!! R is nearly crawling he gets up on all fours and rocks. He also shuffles backwards so makes his way across the floor quite well.

I have posted in the sleep section so we'll see what others suggest.

FirelightGlintingOnTheXmasTree · 01/01/2010 14:43

febes G was doing the rocking for a while and started the backwards stuff at christmas so you might not have long to wait. G's naps in the day are rarely V long.. due to ds waking her by being his usual pre schooler self.. she was up at 6.30am this am had both boobs, rice pudding and fruit at 8ish, another boob at 9.30am.. she normally naps after that.. but it was 11am after the other boob she finally gave in & she slept for 1.5hrs! normally it's 30mins if we're lucky. no idea when she'll nod off next..

FirelightGlintingOnTheXmasTree · 01/01/2010 15:03

oh and forgot to say she pretty much always falls asleep on boob then I carry her through to her cotbed.. occasionally she wakes up when i lay her down.. sometimes more boobs get her back to sleep.. other times nothing does and she'll stay awake for another 2-3hrs happily playing

FirelightGlintingOnTheXmasTree · 01/01/2010 18:33

well G just decided to stay awake all afternoon.. had a few boobs, played, had cottage pie for dinner, more boob & is now asleep! early for her but prob due to no pm nap. ds in bed & will hopefully sleep soon.. scratch that.. he's back up now..

sherrytom · 02/01/2010 10:51

Happy new year to you all!
J still only crawling backwards- he keeps reversing into corners and getting stuck, we have taken the Christmas tree down now- he was fixated on a decoration of a skating penguin. I was getting bored with the following; J reverse crawls to tree sits down with hand on penguin, looks over his shoulder at me and waits for me to say 'no J' then grins and pulls penguin off tree, inserts into mouth, I get up pick up J put penguin back on tree and put J down on opposite side of the room, J reverse crawls to tree sits down with hand on penguin etc etc, all day long

daytime naps no routine here and just recently I haven't even been putting J in his cot when he falls asleep feeding I've just let him sleep in my lap, will have to work on that one

muddleddaizy · 02/01/2010 14:21

Sherry that description sounds very much like ds2. Now the Christmas tree has gone he makes a beeline for the pot plant with stones in it I'd forgotten how much work a crawling baby is!

Had to take ds2 to the out of hours dr yesterday as he's got conjunctivitis and the chemist wouldn't let me buy any of the over the counter stuff as he was so small. Thankfully there weren't that many people around.

Our sofa collapsed big style the other week, but we've been surviving with it until the new one arrives in the next few weeks. Only today dh decided to break up the sofa to take to the tip and put up an old sofa we've got lying around. He discovered when trying to put the temporary sofa up he can't - so now we are sitting on any chairs we can and the cushions

Spangle hope H is sleeping better today!

Febes hope you got some good advice. I am another we just feeds back to sleep. Is another growth spurt due around now? Also, anyone noticed that their lo's cry is a lot louder? Ds2 roars at me at night now!

Tum back to work, so soon? Where has the time gone?

Fi hope your dh feels better soon.

FirelightGlintingOnTheXmasTree · 02/01/2010 15:12

hiya sherry & muddled

I don't think i've the energy to take the xmas tree down just yet.. too much tidying and cleaning to do for a viewing!!!! of our flat on monday 10am YAY

daytime sleep.. G had nap for half hour till 10.30am and tried to settle her for another at 2pm but ds woke her just as I was lowering her into bed and now she's determined to stay up . i'm having one of those laugh or i'll just cry days.. both dc's have been crying at the same time or one after the other with no break

muddled so you'll feel like you're camping for a few weeks then? if you get desperate for something comfy to sit on.. dunelm usually do cheap beanbags. hope the conjunctivitus isn't too bad and clears quick.

sherry G makes a beeline for ds's toys.. i'm forever lifting them out of her reach.. our xmas tree sits on a tallish wooden blanket/storage box so was safe from G this year but not safe from ds's gaze.. next year we'll need a xmas tree defense system lol

pulacracker · 02/01/2010 16:02

Hello ladies. I am very glad S isn't crawling yet. He can get onto all 4s and rock, but that's it so far.

We took DD (and DS1) bowling this morning with friends for DDs belated birthday. S only had a very short nap with his grandad whilst i kept an eye on things, and when i got him home at 1pm i couldn't get him to eat or drink even though he must have been hungry as he'd only had a quick feed at 11 and no lunch - but he just screamed as he wanted to go to bed. At least he had an hour nap and is fine now.

Febesisachristmascracker · 02/01/2010 21:12

Hi everyone,

Last night was much much better R woke at 9pm and then at 4am and both times went straight back to sleep. I feed him at 5.30 and then he slept with us until DD woke at 8.

Naps are still a problem as he refused to sleep in the cot today even with me sitting and stroking him. He finally went to sleep in the car at 2.30pm (nearly 7 hours awake)

Both him and DD have had lots of full stinky nappies today though so maybe they have upset tummies.

I have borrowed a baby walker from a friend as another option as he likes to be with me constantly and I can't sit with him in the lounge the whole day so he can whizz around the kitchen with me.

FirelightGlintingOnTheXmasTree · 02/01/2010 22:16

febes glad you had a better night last night. G was back to her usual hardly any napping today.. this is our day today..
7am boob one (not interested in other)
8am boob 2 followed by 2cubes of home made rice pudding with fruit
10am more boob (falls asleep on boob while bf in lounge with ds running around)
10.30am wakes up will not go back to sleep
11am other boob
12 lunch of finely minced cottage pie with pureed peas (i'm not sure how many spoonfuls but it filled a brother max large lidded pot) with water to drink
2.30 she drifted off after double boobs but ds followed me into her room and talked loudly as i laid her down.. she woke up and determindly would not settle back to sleep so took her back through to lounge with us

4pm more boob, falls asleep & actually naps in her cotbed!
4.30pm wakes just as i'm making ds's dinner.
5pm dinner of plum baby beef & apple with mashed potato, a yogurt with fruit and a farley's reduced sugar rusk, water to drink.
6.45pm ready for bed and bf in her room with dim lighting and she's asleep by 7pm.
11pm I normally creep in and dream feed her and 99% of the time she stays asleep... right through to..
6.30am ish her normal wake up time..

I would say today is a typical day time wise for us and mainly it's the noise of ds that wakes her from her daytime naps.. not sure how we can sort that?

also she only ever takes one boob at a feed.. i offer both but she seems to like a break between boobs

JennStarOfWonder · 02/01/2010 22:25

Hello folks. I've had a blummin busy nearly 2 weeks. We had so much snow, we couldn't get the dc to nursery, so for all my Christmas preparation time, I had 2 extra whingey, cold, climbing the wall children for a week.

We had a lovely Christmas and New Year with lots of entertaining at our house. I hope everybody else had a lovely time.

Mominohoho · 02/01/2010 22:51

Hi everyone, just checking back in after a week away from the computer. Hope all are well.

will catch up with the posts in a bit, so you'll forgive me if I claim Namecheck Amnesty.

It's nice to be back home after a few days away at the inlaws but it's taking awhile to heat up the house (monitor in girls' room finally reads 14C after 5 hours of heating).

Just going to watch Father Ted, warming my toes by our fire and having a bottle of St Peter's ale before taking a break from alcohol (have drunk too much in the last 2 weeks).

wishing everyone here all best wishes for the new year!

FirelightGlintingOnTheXmasTree · 03/01/2010 07:57

hiya jennster & momino

I hope your house is nice and cosy now momino

do you still have lots of snow jennster?

febes · 03/01/2010 10:16

Momino Hope your house is warm now. It took ages for our house to warm up after we were away 3 days at Christmas.

Fire How is your DH. He has been poorly for ages now I hope the new ABs have him on the mend soon.

No snow here but very cold. I have to go to the supermarket later and I'm going to roast some beef and maybe make some yorkies . I feel like a warming pud too. I'll have to think of something.

R did ok last night he slept from 8pm until 2am and then I fed him at 2.30 and he went back to sleep in the cot and I fed him at 5.30 and then he slept in our bed until 8.30.

llareggub · 03/01/2010 17:24

Hellooooooooo all. Bit cold, innit?

I've started the sofa to 5K running thing today, in the hope that it might give some structure to my vague attempts to exercise. The pool challenge was a wash out due to various illnesses (me, the boys) then christmas kind of overtook me. `so, new year, new challenge. Anyone fancy it?

Good luck at work tomorrow Tummum. I'll be thinking of you.

I've been summoned so better go and investigate....no crawling or sleeping through here...

Loobylou36 · 03/01/2010 17:25

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!

bookmarking for later. Just drafting my return to work letter

Loobylou36 · 03/01/2010 17:26

hi llare

tis v.cold here too...bbbrrrrr!

HarktheHeadlessAngelsSing · 03/01/2010 18:41

Evening ladies.

Not caught up with everything yet but just popping in to say hello and happy new year to everyone.

Will hopefully be back later when had chance to read up!

HarktheHeadlessAngelsSing · 03/01/2010 18:58

Ok, so quick skim of the last few days.

tum hope the return to work goes well tomorrow.

sherry LOL at your DS and the skating penguin! I thank my lucky stars that R is not fully mobile yet.

momi hope your house has got a bit warmer now.

fi is your DH feeling any better yet?

llare I did the couch to 5k. Thought it was really good. Raahhhberts taste in music is good one week and really awful the next but the timings are so helpful. I'm going to make an effort with exercise too this year.

muddled I def think Rs cries are louder now too. Roaring sounds like a very good description, but there is a difference between a shout (ie give me some attention NOW) and a cry (hunger/poo in nappy/pain).

Christmas tree is down here. The lounge feels a bit bare now.

FirelightGlintingOnTheXmasTree · 03/01/2010 20:14

hiya everyone

thanks for asking about dh.. he's not coughed as much today and has actually spent the whole day awake out of bed! (he didn't get up until after 8.30am unlike me who got up with the dc's at 6am again) I will be relieved to see him better as while he's been poorly it's felt like i've been a single parent but with the extra work load that only a poorly bloke can create and it's been quite lonely too over the festive period as he's spent quite a lot of it days and evenings asleep in bed if these stronger AB's don't work they'll do blood tests for glandular fever and ME etc..

FirelightGlintingOnTheXmasTree · 03/01/2010 20:26

have spent the last few days getting the flat ready for our viewing tomorrow at 10am.. just have to run the hoover around in the am after the pre school run (omg the hols have flown by) and we'll be ready.. keep your fingers crossed.. in fact keep everything crossed and say a prayer (if you don't mind that is) that the viewer likes our place enough to buy it. The first step to our NS dream needs us to sell this place 1st..

Loobylou36 · 03/01/2010 22:18

good luck with your viewing tomorrow fi

Tummum · 03/01/2010 22:52

Sorry in advance for a rushed update. The update is that I am starting work tomorrow and am not happy about it. Holding back the floods of tears now, but not sure how I will be tomorrow morning. Will have to not put mascara on until I get there I think. Must keep on repeating "If it doesn't work out, then quit" to myself, but it's not really helping this evening TBH.

Fi I really hope the viewing goes well. They must be keen to be viewing on the 1st business day of the year, which bodes well for you

Looby nice to hear from you. Jennster you too.

Llare good luck with the running. I got fit for the race4life 5k after having DD1 and it worked really well. I'm starting slimfast tomorrow after putting on more weight over the holidays. I'm quite looking fed to not having to think about 2 meals a day.

Momi hope you are coping with the cold & the boiler gets fixed sharpish

Hark with you on the lounge feeling empty-ness

Was gonna be a quick post but turned out not .

FirelightGlintingOnTheXmasTree · 03/01/2010 23:38

grrr just lost my post..

basically i was wishing you all the best tummum for tomorrow and hugs or a manly pat on the back. your mantra is very familiar.. i've done the.. 'worst that can happen is I just come straight back home!'(in my head also adding giving my notice at the same time). fingers crossed that your new position is even better than before though and focus on the beaming smile you'll get from G when he sees you when it's time to go home. xoxox
