dear, dear all. thanks so much for your comments after my insecure vent yesterday. i do feel better today, it helps to hear I'm not alone and was particularly happy to see sausage's confirmation that it was indeed a stupid thing to empty out the shampoo.

it is easy to focus on the negative sometimes, isnt it? must remember to do do as febes says to think of the positive things.

anyway, you've all made me feel better, i'm so grateful .

Momino · 07/10/2009 15:34

saus, i too am about the earrings. you deserve it!

Momino · 07/10/2009 15:46

Febes hope you got out this afternoon. sounds like you're doing a brlliant job with the sleep/soothe training, very hard work.

running, great news on the job front. sounds like it will all work out.

Fi, i'm impressed by your focus and determination on your move. it sounds like you're getting everything done quickly. I'm very excited for you.

ladyH, I Dds love charlie & Lola so am going to search out the music CD. Thanks! I'm always looking for alternatives to some of the children's music we have that can sometimes (i'm being nice here) grate a little.

Momino · 07/10/2009 15:47

tried to do an 'I' crossed out in the previous post but it looks a bit odd, doesn't it?

Febes · 07/10/2009 16:01

I haven't made it out as its drizzling and if I go out the bottom of my jeans will get wet. DS has just gone down for his 3rd nap . DH is home for an hour and a half this afternoon before going back to work so will now be in all day but DD is playing nicely and we will def go out tomorrow to toddler group so going to enjoy sitting around doing nothing.

Glad you are feeling better today Momino.

SpangleMaker · 07/10/2009 16:15

Fi sounds like your plans are really coming together. Very exciting!

Momino glad you're feeling brighter today

running good news re your job. I really must do something about mine (next week...)

ladyH glad there wasn't too much damage. I'm impressed with your diet. I have no willpower whatsoever. I've just taken H for a long walk and am now scoffing Celebrations

Bf-on-demand-ers how often are you feeding these days, and do your LOs take both sides? I know there's no right or wrong, just wondering, as I've realised I seem to be feeding H quite often during the day, eg today so far 6am, 8am, 9.45am, 11.30am, 1pm, 2.30pm and 3.45pm. We'll do at least 2 more including the bed time feed, though he'll probably then sleep through until 5ish. H generally only have one side at a time though, apart from at bed time. In contrast my NCT friends who are ff do 4 or 5 feeds in a day.

essenceofSES · 07/10/2009 16:35

Hi! Not been on much last few days as, like Febes, trying to get sleep situation sorted. I've just spent last 75mins in the bedroom with O trying to get him to nap without using me as a comforter. I first fed him from both sides then cuddled him over my shoulder then put him in his cot. He got distracted trying to put both big ties in his mouth so then I put his Gro-bag on him and fed him again. As he got sleepy I took him off and put him on his cot mattress. Cue big screams of frustration that a) he couldn't play with his feet and b) he wasn't getting any boob. Well it took half an hour of him crying and me stroking his tummy and singing but he's now been asleep for 10mins! Long may it continue!!
The side of the cot goes back on this evening and we do our new bedtime routine for the first time!!

saus - I too am v of your earrings!

momino - glad you're feeling better today.

Spangle - so far today I have fed at 9am, 10.30am, 1.15pm, 3pm and a small BF top up at 3.35pm.

work - I have a meeting with my boss on Friday afternoon. She has said she will consider p/t and to go with my proposal for her to consider. Good news is that originally DH and I agreed I'd go back in Jan but despite the fact I've been getting only SMP since July, I haven't had to dig into my savings yet so I've persauded DH we've agreed I'll go back in Febuary

LoobyLou36 · 07/10/2009 16:38

afternoon all...

DH and I did go for our meal last night, it was lovely, altho we did end up having a blazing row after we got home
I think we've got some serious problems, things have been brewing for months...

Jennster · 07/10/2009 17:01

Looby Sorry to hear that. Maybe you need to get it all out in the open? Hope you get something sorted.

Just been skim reading so sorry for not namechecking. Am knackered and have a stinking cold. Am also looking after a little boy (while my 2 are at nursery) with suspected chickenpox. I'm pretty sure it isn't, but it's strange not having the back chat and scream to watch television.

BF frequency Yes I'm feeding pretty much every couple of hours, but then not going through the night.

sausagenmash · 07/10/2009 17:11

Woooh re earring appreciation! They are plain diamond studs set in white gold. Lovely, lovely, lovely

Would love to comment on the demand BFing, but we are solely FFing these days... and M is fed roughly every 4 hours. Still has a dreamfeed AND still wakes around 4am, although she is taking less and less then so am hoping it will stop soon. She has a nap for about an hour around 9am, and then a 2hr one around midday and another hour-ish one around 5pm. Saying that, it's not been like that at all today. Pah. Then we do bath, snuggles, bottle and bed between 7 - 8pm.

Looby - soz to hear about your arguments. Me and dp have blazing rows sometimes too, not very nice at all, I usually end up in a heap of tears and snot. Hope the problems resolve themselves.... and don't forget you can share on here if you think that would help....

Ses - sounds like you are doing brilliantly! All the best with the new routine this evening. Keep at it, you know it will work - I think it takes a few good days of getting into it, and then POW! it'll happen how you want it to!

Momino - glad you are feeling better - go and get a red towel and hang it round your shoulders and whizz round the house saying 'SuperMummy'! ... because that's what you are! Yay!
Have got Wayne's World 2 on in the background. Seems so dated, but I forgot how bloody stupidly funny it is!

runningmonkey · 07/10/2009 17:34

saus I blardy love those films. Is the 2nd one the one with 'I'm the leprechaun' bit? So funny! [v sad person emoticon here]

loobs sorry to hear you're having probs. Agree getting it out in open is prob for the best in long run (if not initially).

Jennster hope your cold gets better soon.

LoobyLou36 · 07/10/2009 18:51

saus love the halloween theme wedding by the way
he won't forget that anniversary in a hurry
we got married on St. Patricks Day, England were playing Wales that day (I'm English DH Welsh) and it was the last day of the 6 nations 2007. My DH wanted to drive me to Wales to give birth so it was ironic that M was born on St. Georges Day.

LoobyLou36 · 07/10/2009 18:55

Re: demand BF, I seem to be spending more time feeding these days - every 2hrs or so and thro the night too every 2-2.5hrs at the moment. Hoping it will settle down once we get into the weaning more?...M had carrot for tea and loved it

FiByTheSea · 07/10/2009 19:56

spangle bf here pretty similar.. today feeds were roughly at these times ish 7.30am 8.30am 10.00am 11.30am 1.30pm 3.00pm 4.15pm 5.15pm 6.15pm 7.15pm and she's asleep now till tomorrow 7am.. will dream feed at 11pm ish just to top her up.

off to catch up properly now.. still on phone so it'll take a while..

FiByTheSea · 07/10/2009 20:01

oh and mostly she just wants one boob at each feed lasting about 10mins tops I think.. not including burping time.

pulapula · 07/10/2009 20:07

Hi all, spent the day with my sister and her nearly 4 week old . S was very good all day and went to bed very nicely.

I am interested in all the sleep training going on. I had a go at pick up-put down the other day to lengthen DS2s naps as i was getting fed up of his 30 min naps. It took 20 minutes to get him back to sleep with some shushing patting and face stroking mainly in the cot with a few pickups. He then slept for another hour. However, he generally seems fine on short naps, so i felt very mean forcing him to sleep more because i want more rest so i haven't done it again. He does sometimes have long naps so i know he can do it . He goes down nicely without crying in his cot, but he is still swaddled with a dummy and only sleeps on his side/front - 3 things we want to get him out of at some stage.

Momino · 07/10/2009 20:15

looby, hope things get better between you 2 and you can discuss.

demand feeding, Harper is about 3-3.5 hours in the day. Feeds are generally 6-7am, 10-11am, 2-3pm, 5-7pm clusterfeed. The feeds are drawn out and I usually offer both sides.

With the exception of last night, she usually wakes for 1 or 2 feeds in the night. when she wakes I've tried to settle her by other means but she's been truly hungry.

2DDs in bed, Harper kind of wailing. I've fed, changed, cuddled, sang, put her back down. That was about 5-10 minutes ago. how long do you guys leave them? I don't let her 'cry it out' as this wail isn't a persistent i-need-something-now. actually.

whilst I was typing the above, she's gone quiet. and dd1&2 have stopped chatting. much, much better than last night's mayhem.and Sainsbury's is here.

be back soon.

FiByTheSea · 07/10/2009 20:33

looby sorry to hear about row & hope you're able to talk through the problems as and when.

sleeping/naps & crying.. not much help to everyone on this one. G sleeps anywhere.. in pram.. in her cot.. on her baby gym mat.. car.. sling.. never really cries just happily chats and plays then drifts off when she fancies for an hour or so every 3 hrs or so.. i know i'm really lucky! ds was pretty much the same.. so sorry to all having a hard time of it.

Belgianchocolates · 07/10/2009 20:35

demand bf* C's still more or less on the same schedule as ever, more or less every 2h. She's always taken both breasts, all her life. I suppose it explains why she's such a fatty . She does go 11-6 or so at night though. I suppose the only thing that's changed is needing her morning feed an hour early than before, so I suppose that means she's having 1 feed extra a day, I think I'm not really keeping a tally. Actually the way my boobs are feeling she's been having less quantity, but same frequency today.

saus Yay at the earrings.

looby Sorry to hear you and your dh are having problems. If it's been brewing for a while, then it's definitely worth it coming out in the open.

SpangleMaker · 07/10/2009 20:50

looby sorry to hear you and your dh have argued. I hope you manage to tackle the issues and get back on to an even keel.

Thanks for the bf experiences everyone. I was just interested as I think I'd imagined that the babies would go longer between feeds as they get older but it seems not - not yet, anyway. H is a lot more efficient a feeder now though so the feeds are much quicker than when he was a newborn. I don't find it a bother esp as he can go for a few hours eg if we are out and about. I wonder with his slow weight gain I should try a dream feed? Whenever I've done one it doesn't seem to affect when he wakes up (which is why I haven't bothered) so it would be an extra feed IYSWIM.

Very quiet here as H asleep and DH is away for a few days. FIL is to ring me if there is any news about MIL. He doesn't seem to like ringing DH on his mobile for some reason

Jennster · 07/10/2009 22:17

It's just occurred to me, despite having dh with me, I put all 3 dc to bed! Actually that's unfair on dh. I fed dd2 while reading to ds. The only reason dh didn't read to dd1 is because she wanted me to read to her, so as soon as ds was done dh carried him to bed and got him his water and he was asleep, then I went and read to dd1 and she went to sleep. It isn't usually so easy!

Momino Sounds like you are Supermum. Glad tonight went more smoothly. Chin up!

llareggub · 07/10/2009 23:17

Hello, I've been out again! I went to a Neal's Yard party and have bought some yummy smelly stuff.

Spangle I'm not really sure how often I feed G as it really does vary. I went out the other day and left him at home and he didn't feed at all between 10am and 2pm. I'm sure if I'd been home he would have a few feeds. His feeds are shorter now though.

Momino · 08/10/2009 07:07

hi all.

don't we all have that uniform?

just a quick one whilst I express a couple of oz.

Jennster, great on putting to bed. Do you think that just by DH being there, the atmosphere was more relaxed so you/children were relaxed making it seem easier? Well done anyway.

Llare, that is a party I would like to go to. I need some smelly things in my life.

speaking of, what perfume do you wear? I need a new perfume but want ideas. there is one called Daphne (collaboration b/tw daphne guinness and com de garcon (sp?)) which is out sep/oct but haven't smelled it yet. would love your recommendations.

Fi, about G sleeping anywhere... you lucky schmuck (is that an americanism? like the word anyway. try saying it now: ssshhhhmuckk).

HOpe you all had good sleeps. H was up at 3.45 so once isn't too bad.

gotta go now. 7am, gotta wake up all 3, feed H, dress myself, breakfast for all, nursery run, preschool meeting 10.30, more bread to make, lunch date, blah, blah, blah

FiByTheSea · 08/10/2009 08:03

morning momino also doing the pre school get us all ready routine..

i know i'm lucky with g's sleeping.. ds was good also but G is even better. not sure if it's down to anything i've done or just her?!

LoobyLou36 · 08/10/2009 08:07

morning all

momino supermum I don't know how you do it have a good day

well things are a little less strained here, we didn't talk but did manage a cuddle on the sofa last night (usually DH sits on the far side of the room drinking red wine while I cuddle/feed/get M to bed)

Poor M woke up crying at 9.15 - very snotty again, dosed her up with calpol, nasal drops and vicks, bf and cuddled her back to sleep then she was awake every 2-3hrs for a feed [yawn].
