I'm BF M at the mo - will make up her baby rice at 9.

I've splashed out and bought M a jumperoo, I wouldn't normally spend so much but most of M's clothes are hand-me-downs/ebay and any toys so far have been presents/car boot so I thought I'd treat her.

I'm also hoping it might tire M out more so that she might have a nap during the day .

Got a m&b group this afternoon but only going for an hour because I've got to walk to the other side of town to meet DH from work, we're off to the in-laws as my sil/bil and niece are up from London for her 1st Birthday Party - cake - yay!

Weather's nice and sunny today so quite looking forward to the walk . hopefully M will fall asleep so she's not too narky at having a later night.

Morning supermums one and all

Sleep training started in earnest yesterday. O managed a 2hr45 nap yesterday having self settled with lots of stroking and singing from me! Took him ages and lots of crying/soothing to get him to settle in the evening. He eventually slept from about 11pm til 2am. Then woke again at 4am, 5.25am and 7.45am. Lots of waking but he didn't sleep in bed with me at all!

LoobyLou36 · 08/10/2009 08:44

sleep training think I need some help.

At the moment M only naps during the day if she falls asleep on me whilst BF sat on the sofa and I have to stay still, and at night she tends to fall asleep on me then I transfer her to her cot . Every time I've tried to put her down awake she cries and cries (altho I haven't tried for a while ).

Any tips? We are thinking of putting her in her own room soon, can anyone recommend a good mobile/nightlight that might sooth/entertain her?

ladyhelen2 · 08/10/2009 09:58

looby glad things a little better with your DH. Its such a life changing thing having a baby, I'm surprised more couples don't just fall apart so well done for getting things out in the open. Hope things continue to improve.

I can recommend our mobile! Its a Fisher Price Miracles and Milestones one. Its about £35. Plays nursery rhymes and a bit of classical stuff, the animals will rotate if you wish but the best bit is the projected stars and moon on the ceiling! I wanted a Tiny Love Symphony in Motion one as they are also v v good - lovely animals that are interesting for the babies but they are about £40/45.

Update on diet. Willpower is still hanging on in there and have lost 2lb in 3 days!! Last night we had roast chicken and roast veg ( squash, parsnips, carrots and courgette). First time I'd felt full in 3 days and all the time I was thinking how is this going to make me lose weight, but the proof is on the scales! Today another curry with seafood and squash in. Its bizarre this diet! It'll be the lack of carbs, cake and wine thats doing the trick I expect. But this is good as a quick fix. 2 days to go!!!

criminal justice caught up last night. Depsite some of the inaccuracies, I think its really really good. Absolutely gut wrenching stuff though. In the scheme of things the inaccuracies as to the some of the technicalites pale in to insignifance really when this programme shows how abused women are treated by the system, and oh god, when her baby was taken away. Oh god it was truly heart breaking.

LoobyLou36 · 08/10/2009 10:28

ladyhelen congrats on your diet - glad its going well

Currently bidding on a tiny love symphony mobile on ebay.

FiByTheSea · 08/10/2009 10:40

looby glad things are a bit more comfortable with your dh mobiles we have a miracles and milestones one too that we bought for ds this one which i think is great. I use the swirling light show at night if needed and it's great in the daytime too with having interesting things to look at. Only thing is i hate the music of it so that function stays in the off position We also have a tomy starlight dreamshow one which projects a lovely colour rotating picture and has much nicer music. DS still uses his now and will often switch it back on at night himself to settle himself to sleep We bought a second one of those as ds loves it so much and when the arm section has to come off the fisher price one (when g is old enough it becomes a hazzard) i'll think we'll swap to the tomy one. The fisher price one converts to a cot toy of sorts so it'll stay put along with the addition of the tomy one.

criminal Justice I started watching it last night... but I must be a real wimp these days. I got to the bit when she had the baby and just knew what was coming next and couldn't watch anymore... so quickly turned over

ladyhelen2 · 08/10/2009 10:53

fi thats the fisher price mobile we have. I'm really pleased with it! But I know what you mean about the music. We have it in low or off too. We've found that R can turn it on - by accident, of course - when he turns over or around in his cot and bashes or kicks it.

FiByTheSea · 08/10/2009 10:58

ladyh it's our ds that helpfully turns on the music here he climbs up the outside of the cotbed and presses as many of the buttons as he can then turns on the music and thinks it's a great larf... most of the time g isn't even in the cotbed when he plays with it!

HeadlessLadyH · 08/10/2009 10:59

Just done my Halloween name change. Although I think I may actually keep it!!

D'you all like it??

SpangleMaker · 08/10/2009 11:08

Quick one as we're off out to baby sensory in a mo.

mobiles we inherited a tiny love symphony one which H loves. It doesn't always get him off to sleep but it calms him down and keeps him happy in his cot for a while. I think he would like a light show one.

Looby you won't regret getting M a Jumperoo. It keeps H happy for ages (especially when he has an audience to cheer on his jumping) either jumping or playing with the toys while I get on with stuff. It's also pretty effective at tiring him out for a nap too.

ladyH like it!

FiByTheSea · 08/10/2009 11:09

i'm not staring at your boobs headlessladyh honest it's just your head under your arm that' making me look round there

EtherialFiByTheSea · 08/10/2009 11:15

I'm going all ghostly for a while... I always did wonder what it would be like to fly through walls and surprise people

EtherialFiByTheSea · 08/10/2009 11:20

right... must go and get organised in prep of collecting DS from pre school. Might make it back on later. x

Belgianchocolates · 08/10/2009 12:09

Morning everyone

I was supposed to meet up with some people, but decided the drive was a little too long after all and that I really should just concentrate on C's new nap regime. So far she's again 2h into a long uninterupted sleep . It's clear she just doesn't like her cot during the day. She seems to like the cosiness of sleeping on top of our duvet. . Once she's used to long sleeps I'm going to work on getting her to do it in her cot. I'm going to see what I can do to give her cot the same warm snuggly effect.

I'm a bit tired myself. C's early-ish waking is starting to get to me I think. The worst is that she tends to start farting about 30-40min before she actually wakes for her feed. The farting wakes me somewhere before 6 and then I cant get back to sleep

mobiles I'm a fan of good oldfashioned wind up mobiles I'm afraid. C loves just watching the animals going round and round and round.

I've just got to tell you all about my lovely DS again today. After breakfast DH came down with C (around 8) and he put her down on the mat. DS went to her and started playing and talking to her saying things like "oh, C, I'm so happy to see you. I've missed you tonight. I miss you when I'm at school" It was sooo sweet, but the funniest thing was dd1, who was watching and listening with a big smirk on her face, looking ready to vommit at the gushing display of affection.

loving the halloween name changes by the way. I'm going to have to have a good think about what I can change my name into.

Hello ladies

A bad night here (yawn). S woke at 7.50 , 10.45, 1, 3.30, 5.45, 7 and up for the day at 7.50. Each time he woke i fed him as he just screams and I don't want the other DCs woken. Usually i don't feed him if it's less than 3 hours but he was so loud and nothing would settle him. If it carries on i will have to come up with a strategy as i can't keep doing that. I remember DD and DS1 started waking a lot around 5 months but the dummy would be enough to settle them, and we decided to take the dummy away as we thought they were waking for it.

We just have a wind-up mobile like Belgian. I've never tried a mobile to send LO to sleep as they always seem to settle fine without one, and we have always put them down awake.

EtherealFiByTheSea · 08/10/2009 13:18

awww belgian that's so sweet of your son and great about c's sleep too!

dandy great name suggestion! G spotted a spelling mistake in mine serves me right for rushing earlier.

EtherealFiByTheSea · 08/10/2009 13:23

hopeless predictive text.. was supposed to be an I not a G!

pulapumpkin · 08/10/2009 13:29

Fi- I was going to say that G must be a super baby if she noticed your spelling mistake

EtherealFiByTheSea · 08/10/2009 14:07

pula super G & love the pumpkin c'est magnifique

pulapumpkin · 08/10/2009 14:39

Thanks Fi .

I might just stop putting DS1 down for a nap as he never sleeps and twice this week he has used it as a good time to do a disgusting poo in his nappy, so bad that it leaks out and gets smeared on his bedding. Even had to wash his duvet on Monday.

We are hoping to toilet train DS1 soon (he's 2.4). I bought him a potty story book and he has since shown more interest, has actually sat on the toilet with no nappy on (something he was scared of previously), and yesterday asked to wear "big boy pants". But it was a nursery day so not a good idea . Not sure now whether i am ready for all the puddles and poos in pants. Might try for a few days and see how things go.

Oh, better get organised- must get DS1 and DS2 ready to go and collect DD from school.

EtherealFiByTheSea · 08/10/2009 14:43

belgian just had a thought about C's fondness of sleeping on your duvet.. in addition to snuglyness maybe it's also smell. it might also be making her relax as she can detect traces of your smell on it? you could always try fragrancing a muslin in your cleavage for a good long while then spreading it flat and tucking it over the top of her sheet. I fragranced up some blankie/comforters in the same way and have them in G's cotbed to reassure her. don't know if it'll help?

HeadlessLadyH · 08/10/2009 14:52
