Hi girls, thought I would start a new thread as DD2 is one on Thursday .

Can you believe a whole year has passed already?

HM LOL at your little independent DS...I know what you mean. DD2 is v cute but also getting v independent. I do a mix of spoon feeding and finger feeding (I know not BLW as such). She is thankfully a very clean eater like her sister...it must be genetic!
I know people will slate me for this, but I really couldn't cope with all that mess. My days are demanding enough!

Joking aside, the latest version of Christopher Green's 'Toddler Taming' is brilliant.

Big news in the lucky household...DD2 took 3 steps on her own today!!! So she may well be proper walking before her birthday (you've got 2 days DD2....no pressure!)

Still no sign of chicken pox.....

o'h and while I'm on here....

sam has completely gone off milk - this morning he deigned to have about 2oz and that has been it for the past week or so. still he's having lots of yoghurt, and other dairy based things, things that are high in calcium, and is drinking lots of very diluted juice and water from a sippi cup as well.

and on the subject of parties, we know very few 1yr olds so most of the children for sam's party were jacob's age so we did bags, but we did bags for jacob's 1st birthday party but then i do tend to go totally over the top for birthday parties - sam's was a blue and white theme and jacob's theme this year will be wild west!

thefortbuilder · 05/05/2009 18:39

o'h and again!

MM i have copied down the muffin recipe and will definitely be trying it - sounds yummy! do you think it would work with sun dried tomatoes with the cheese? and maybe feta? what do you reckon???

I have been a baking machine recently - lots of lemon drizzle cake and banana, sultana and pecan loaf cake today - it's yummy!

and i'm thinking of getting a breadmaker - we are going through so much bread at the moment and it's lots of "crusty" bread rather than just sliced stuff so it's much more expensive each loaf - I reckon a breadmaker would be much more economical!

Haribosmummy · 05/05/2009 20:15

Hey!

Just catching up... GOsh, it's harder and harder to find time to type!!!! DS is turning into a real live wire (having not moved from my side for MONTHS! this is a ).

Today, he learned how to climb stairs and, now he's a master. I think he must have climbed them 20-odd times. For his next trick, he's really like to slide down them head first and he was not at all happy at not being allowed to do that!!!!!

It's amazing how quickly he's developing right now. A month ago, he was just about crawlling and now he's walking and climbing and into EVERYTHING [GAHHH!!!! emoticon]. Still he's such a cutie, he's hard to be cross with him, even when he's being a bloody terror!!!

We had our first encounter with a nightmare child this morning and, to be honest, I think I handled it quite well (even if I say so myself! )... I felt really quite sorry for the mum, as her son was really a handful and couldn't seem to play nicely with any other child at the play date... he was forever biting / pulling hair / punching / pushing... and this from a 13 month old ... This little boy had a real tug of DS's hair, but DS can, in turn, be a bit of a hair puller, so I reckon it's a good lesson for DS to learn (it hurts!!!) and I said so much to the other mum (as my DS howled!!!!!!) but several other mums really weren't happy and eventually she left early.

I will put some photos up shortly. DS has a couple of modelling jobs in the next week and also a casting for a TV commercial [proud mummy emoticon]

I'm the size of a house now... Am looking TOTALLY pregnant (except when I have DS in his backpack when I just look fat and people must think I'm just really far and unfit, as I have to walk up the hill to our house at 0.05MPH - and Ddog is no help whatsoever as he hates hills even more than I do!!)

Ah well, best get on.

HM xx

FLick have sent you a message on FB

Posting and running. Haribo lovely pictures, your DS is stunning! Very angelic looking!
flick I've heard great things about the panasonic bread maker. Model 255 I think.
I've got the worst cold ever. Can't believe I've got a cold in May! Probably got it off one of my little buggers dear students. The ten year old have always got some lurgy or other.
And I've got hayfever too. not impressed.

thefortbuilder · 06/05/2009 10:05

was thinking of going for the panasonic 254 as i don't need to be adding nuts and raisins to bread and that seems to be the only difference!

HM thanks for the fb photo! get sharing the page ladies!

MM I'm going to make the muffins today I think - after so much sweet stuff baked in this house I think it's time we had a go at some savoury stuff soon! jacob loves cooking with me so it's really good fun - he made hamburgers for the bbq with dh on monday and they had to do it on the kitchen floor

monkeysmama · 06/05/2009 19:22

Evening ladies

Flick - nice to have you back! I make bread twice a week but don't have a bread maker or nay fancy tins. I just make it in a big baking tray and it lasts c.5 days and freezes well. It's a Jamie O recipe but with a twist (I don't have scales and improvise!) I know lots of people with bread makers who never use them but lots of people who make bread who don't have them (does that make sense?)

Hope everyone is well. I am tired after a horrible nightmare last night which woke me with a start around 2 thinking dd had stopped breathing. It took me until 4 to get back to sleep.

Planning the big party for dd (not this Sat but next one) and have just confirmed the entertainment. DP & I are both a bit nervous - we don't usually entertain so many people at once and really want everyone to have fun.

I am trying to do a canvas of special 1st year photos for dp for dd's birthday but am finding it hard to find the time to do it when he's not sat next to me (& money to pay for it now I am not working!!) I want to do something special.

HM - Harry is so beautiful! He looks like a little person more than a baby. What a cutie. LM - love your pictures too. Has anyone looked at mine of dd? I tried to check my profile and can't see them on there so maybe technology got the better of me again . Will try again in a few days when I have some energy!

MM

monkeysmama · 06/05/2009 19:23

P.s HM would love to meet up though the week after would probably be best for me if that suits you? No problem if not - we can do next week too. I didn't know you lived in Berkhamstead (my dad's sometimes girlfriend lives there) - I saw it on your profile when I looked at your photos. It's lovely there! Where suits you to meet?

Evening all! I've been away up North (mostly on the Isle of Eigg) for a week so a bit to catch up on! I had to laugh when I saw the title of the new thread, my copy of Toddler taming arrived from amazon this morning! Thought I should have a look to see what's coming!

In the last 10 days DS has started crawling and cruising and is now wreaking havoc wherever we go!

LM that looks amazing! enjoy!

Loving all the birthday baby photos!

DS is one on monday. party sunday and DP away at his interview til sat night, help!

Today was my due date. What a year!

thefortbuilder · 09/05/2009 19:17

where is everyone?????

MM the muffin recipe is great - I did it just with cheese and sun dried tomatoes and added some wheat bran in and a little more milk - took them to a playdate on friday morning and they went down a treat even dh has deigned to eat a couple and he never ever eats anything I bake (he's far too healthy for baked goods....)

just waiting for my new bread maker to arrive - it's due any day and I was really hoping it would come this weekend but i guess next week will be fine.

Sam has still not got any more teeth although i can at least now see two really close to the surface in his bottom gum, so hopefully all that drooling etc will result in something soon!

not much else been happening here - thanks to everyone who is joining the fb site - tell your friends, there's freebies in it!

we're having new photos taken for the website tomorrow - lovely stock photos already and now the model ones are being done.

is anyone else noticing there is an awful lot of chicken pox going round at the moment? it seems that at least one of ds1's friends has it at any one time - at least ds1 has had the jab and ds2 had it at 4 months so we don't need to worry about it! i have a friend who's eldest dd (2.8) has it at the moment and she's really worried it's going to pass on to her 6wk old ds - they've had to ship the dd out to granny's for the week!

anyway, dh is busy preparing the bbq so must go and supervise help out

baiyu · 10/05/2009 00:38

Lots of chickenpox up here too! Avoided it so far.

MM I made your muffins too, still have some in the freezer. I loved them! Oh yes and DS too...

Oh dear, it's gone midnight and I have DS's party tomorrow which I am totally not ready for. So much baking to do which would be a pleasure but with DS getting into everything it'll be a bit manic. Can't even give him to DP for a few hours as he has an exam on tues so will disappear in the morning to the library and he only just got back from england this evening and i've done nothing and and and and...i should just go to bed!

Mitchell81 · 10/05/2009 06:47

Baiyu Hope DS has a wonderful birthday party. And good luck to DP with his exams.

Flick good to see you again and pleased to hear that you have been busy with your new business.

LM Hope you enjoying your holiday

Haribo Glad to hear that you are looking pregnant, how far are you now?

Monkeysmama Will definetley be trying your recipe. Always love to hear how happy and inlove you are with DD.

Fuzzy Very impressed with DD2's cake. Glad to hear you had a good day, photos looked great.

We are having a party today for DS2 just family so will only be 10 of us and DS1 is so excited. So the table is all set with 1st birthday themed stuff. Unfortunetley the loaf cake (easy looking age 1 cake) broke when I tried to take out of tin so last night went to the shop and bought one. Didn't want to try again incase same thing happened.

Hope everyone is having a good weekend.

fuzzypeach · 10/05/2009 13:25

mitchell and baiyu hope your parties go well today!! and hope your lo's have lovely birthdays!!

nothing to report here - other than DD2 was up all night last night with a temp, sore bottom and swollen gums - i just wish the teeth would hurry up and come through!!

Haribosmummy · 10/05/2009 14:07

Urgh! We have the dreaded lurgy here. DS is snotty and has a very bad cough which is keeping him up - he was up from 11pm until 3am last night, then slept till 5am

DS feeling very sorry for himself and DH and I having a constant battle for sleep!

Mitchell and Baiyu - Hope the weather is as gorgeous up there for you guys as it is down here. Enjoy your days!

Catch up more soon.

Going to see if DS can manage a little cottage pie.

HM x

Niknak21 · 10/05/2009 19:14

Hope the birthday parties went well, we had sun all day, hope you all got that too.

Just found another tooth. So DS2 now has 7 on the top and 4 on the bottom, and he does like to munch! I'm still feeding him mornings and nights, going to put him onto cows milk at 1, in just under a fortnight .

HB sorry to hear about the cough, fingers crossed for a better night tonight

Mitchell81 · 11/05/2009 07:01

We had a lovely party, the weather was good for most of the day, but had already set up the bouncy castle inside.

Talking about milk, how much milk do your lo ones have? DS2 has one bottle of 7 fl oz in the morning and same in the evening before bed. I know I need to get him off bottles, but is this the normal amount of milk to be drinking?

fuzzypeach · 11/05/2009 09:05

Mitchell - I make up bottles of 7oz for breakfast (but she never drinks it all - only had 4oz this morning) 7oz for lunch (but usually only has 3) and 9oz at bed - which she drinks all of. She is still not confident with a cup and only has the odd sip - I give her water during the day and at tea time but she has such a small amount that its negligible really - need to speak to the HV as DD1 was definitely drinking everything from a cup by this age. Glad you had a great party - pics look good! x

Mitchell81 · 11/05/2009 09:12

DS2 drinks from a cup during the day with water or diluted apple juice he drinks from the non spill ones as the other fast flow ones gets used like a watering can.

He picks up whatever is lying on the floor so sometimes drinks from Ds1 and DD's cups.

Fuzzy I am sure DD2 will get the hang of drinking soon, DS2 wasn't keen until he tried juice Not keen on water

thefortbuilder · 11/05/2009 10:03

ds2 has gone off milk completely - literally does not drink any at all, but he has plenty of dairy and fluids and a good balanced diet so I'm not too worried. He is on a sippi cup during the day (one of those flip top tommee tippee ones) and has very diluted pear juice or water in it - sometimes has apple and beetroot juice as well, depending on what's in the fridge.

It's actually pretty helpful that he has gone off milk and bottles because ds1 up until last week (2.9) was still on a bottle at night. we've managed to say "well your brother is a big boy, he uses beakers all the time" because whilst ds1 went pretty much straight onto an open cup for daytime stuff really easily he didn't want to give up the bottles, but seems to be more willing to do so now. thank goodness!

we had a photoshoot for the business yestreday which went pretty well - HM would have been lovely to have your little man there but we will be doing a new campaign come autumn up on the common so hopefully he could be part of that one?? I'm thinking of doing a big trade show in NY in August, but it's pretty pricey, especially for flights etc, although the PILs will be here so in reality could stay in UK with dh and the boys while I do the show - not sure how I would handle that though!!

Haribosmummy · 12/05/2009 13:01

Happy birthday, Mitchell'sDS2 Hope you have a lovely day!

Flick - So sorry to have missed Sunday, but DS would have been a PITA... Snotty and feeling very sorry for himself! Thankfully he's feeling brighter now. Glad you had a lovely time though - I have an order from a friend for you (the website wouldn't work for her!)

LM - Hope you are enjoying a fabby holiday!

Niknak - well done on the teeth! DS has 8 in total now, but I think we might be expecting some molars soon (not that I dare put my fingers in DS's mouth anymore!!!)

As for milk, Ds still loves his, and still has 4 bottles (though two are VERY weak now. Only his nap bottle and night bottle are even close to full strength - and even they are diluted!). he does have water with each meal, but spits more out than he manages to drink!!!

DS is both enthraling and infuriating at the moment... He is walking now (a major step - in every sense of the word) given he was hardly crawling 4-5 weeks ago. He can make it up a flight of stairs faster than I can and is constantly finding mischief.... Everything from unloading the dishwasher (yes, he can open it) to 'bathing' in Ddog's water . I literally can't leave him for a second.... He's also taken a dislike to his cot... As DH said, he starts howling if he's even placed in the airspace above the cot - yet, oddly, he'll quite happily spend time in his playpen (which is in our room... that may have something to do with it!)

It is AMAZING to see him develop so quickly, but I'm bloody shattered with him running around like a live wire!!!

He's asleep right now, and I should be cleaning, but I really can't be bothered. On top of that, I have my first full day in a school (part of the teacher training) tomorrow and have to be there at 8:15... [gAH! emoticon]

flick - you still OK for Thursday morning? I'll send you an e-mail...

MM - How are you? Do you come to Berko often?

Hm x
