Hi girls, thought I would start a new thread as DD2 is one on Thursday .

Can you believe a whole year has passed already?

HM LOL at your little independent DS...I know what you mean. DD2 is v cute but also getting v independent. I do a mix of spoon feeding and finger feeding (I know not BLW as such). She is thankfully a very clean eater like her sister...it must be genetic!
I know people will slate me for this, but I really couldn't cope with all that mess. My days are demanding enough!

Joking aside, the latest version of Christopher Green's 'Toddler Taming' is brilliant.

Big news in the lucky household...DD2 took 3 steps on her own today!!! So she may well be proper walking before her birthday (you've got 2 days DD2....no pressure!)

Still no sign of chicken pox.....

Hi LM - Hoep you got your sofa and are happy with it!!!

I havea quick questionfor all of you: What toddler taming books do you hve and which one wouldyou recommend?

We have a small issue here with Haribo biting things (both people and inanimate bjects) when he is frustrated. He did go through a phase of hair pulling, which I dealt with bytalking to him, saying 'Haribo, it hurts when you pull hair...' and I would ull his hair a little to explain (I know, lotsof people don't agree, but it worked for us)... But I can't exactly go around bitinghim plus he's doingit out of frustraton rather than curiosity IYSWIM, so not in the best mindset for a quiet talk... Anyway justlooking for suggestions.

Alpologis for typig Am tired and thekeyboard is playing up!!

HM I would HIGHLY recommend Dr Christopher Green's 'Toddler Taming' book.

It's brilliant, light-hearted but very useful.

New Sofa FAB.....I just want to sit on it all day long.......

LM Hows the job hunting going?

Harimo Hope you find a solution to the biting. I know giving attention to the person who has been biten and ignoring the biter is supposed to be a good strategy, but don't know if it will work on someone so young. (Not much help sorry)

Fuzzy Hope you had a wonderful anniversary

Niknak what did your friend decide re doubles?

We are going away today till sunday for DH bday, so looking forward to getting away. Not far only 1 and 1/2 hour drive. Hopefully weather improves.

monkeysmama · 27/08/2009 21:49

Hey girls

Sorry I haven't been on for a while - been up north with my mum and dd having a lot of fun.

HM those are indeed my initials. Re the biting. I figure we're all friends on here now and so I can say what I really think and no one will take (much) offence.... As you've probably all now noticed I am perhaps a tad alternative in how I raise dd. I don't actually feel at all alternative but I am still bfing at 15 months (tho I never expected to be) and we've co-slept for a long time etc. Anyway, I have a book called "The Social Toddler: Promoting Positive Behaviour" which I really like. It has a dvd which accompanies it (tho I don't have it). It's less than a tenner on Amazon and at the very least gives an alternative to some of the more mainstream books with concrete suggestions (and photo examples) of how to deal with negative behaviours. In my own experience we had a biting phase a few months back. I tried the "ohh, that hurt mummy" and it worked unless she was tired. She occasionally bites us now but it is more a nip when she is tired and wants attention. My book's upstairs (& I am downstairs watching "What katie did next" but don't tell anyone). Will have a look what it says tomorrrow.

Stella just seems to be doing more and more now. She runs everywhere and in the few days we spent up north came out with 7 new words. She, pretty clearly, said "Oh shit" yesterday when she dropped something & has said it at least three times since. I am currently ignoring it with major note to self not to swear EVER again. Am I a bad mummy...?

HM we could meet soon and our LOs could bite and swear together?

LMI am so excited to hear how much fun you all have at the wedding & to see the photos if we're lucky enough. I hope you have a fantastic day (what's dd2 doing btw?) and that your sister has a blissful wedding.

Hey to everyone else. Before I forget - have we heard from macaco recently? Hope she's ok.

MM

luckymummy74 · 28/08/2009 11:22

MM Thanks for your good wishes...very excited, less than 24 hrs to go now (wedding at 11:30am !) We are currently sitting in the bar at David Lloyd having both had our manicures and pedicures....well it does need to dry properly..... I am wondering how long I can get away with sitting here before DH starts texting to see where I am!!!

mitchell job hunting not too bad, it's a very long story. Basically, I have worked NHS for 13 years, I always loved where I work but we are under new management now and new boss is horrible. Also, they are shutting the physio dept at the Hospital I work in and we are gonna all get shoved somewhere crap at the beginning of next year. It's all very up in tyhe air. Morale at work very low.
I have applied to a lovely private hosptial (like a BUPA hospital) physio dept who are apparently very keen to have me but they aren't getting their increase in funding for more staff til new year, so I'm kind of sitting and waiting but it seems quite promising, fingers crossed.

Sorry girls, I really think I should go now.....will try and post some pics after the wedding...

LM xx

Have a gorgeous day tomorrow LM!
I have 5 weeks til my nuptials...haven't been to the registry office, restaurant or evening venue to organise things yet. Nor have I a dress, cake, band, ring etc etc. Feeling quite calm at the moment but better get a move on!

Apologies for the silence the past week, I've been away on the Isle of Arran with my mum where it rained for 5 days solid. Still we had a great guddle on the beach and lots of puddle jumping! I did treat myself to some amazing sheepskin slippers and now I never want to leave the house my feet are so happy! I've literally never worn anything so comfy in my life, maybe like adult flick booties I think!

monkeysmama just had a good snort at your DD's swearing! She probably heard someone say it in the park (better sort out my language before DS starts talking!)

Tried to have a wee night out last night with DP for a friend who's leaving us for Taiwan. Mum was babysitting but as she's disabled I didn't want to go til DS was asleep (she could cope if he woke but rocking him to sleep too hard for her)...little blighter refused to sleep until half 9, usually sleeps at 7. Gah! All dolled up and miserable (DP already there as came from work), eventually managed to escape and arrived about ten to eat some remains of cold curry at the restaurant Need to get this boy trained before my wedding!!

HM I have the Christopher Green one too as the sleep bit was fab, haven't read the rest yet but really must do!

Finished my play today! Now there's nothing I can do and I'm totally cringing but glad it's done!

Harimosmummy · 29/08/2009 08:14

happy wedding day, LM's sister... the weather looks fab fo you - hope you all have a super day!!

hands full right now, so must dash.

happy bh weekends, everyone

Very quickie....wedding was fantastic!!!!

DD1 walked down the aisle on her own, first, then DD2, with me, holding my hand. Went really well, despite them both being complete pains in the arse a little difficult at the rehearsal the night before!!

Will try and post some pics on my profile this week....

LM glad that the wedding went so well.

Baiyu pleased that you finished your play was that for Uni?

Harimo How are things working out with the nanny and cleaner? Is it making things easier?

Niknak21 · 01/09/2009 21:28

Pleased wedding went well LM.

We went away for the night to the hotel we got married in this weekend, our 5th anniversary. It was a lovely evening, DP managed a lie in and I had a peaceful bath. Then rushed back to relieve my parents.

Good luck with job LM, I had an interview last Thursday, but was turned down by email Friday, even though he said he would get his practice manager to phone me. I think I wasn't didn't look like I would make him enough money on the NHS, unlike my last interview where I didn't have enough private experience. We're probably going to put in another surgery in our house for me, when I get round to finding out how to go about it.

DS1 pretended to bite someone at nursery today, think it was copying his brother, who has managed 2 good bites of his fellow nursery goers .

Very good talking MM, we just get 'nee' and lots of head shaking when he doesn't want to do something

monkeysmama · 02/09/2009 11:10

Morning

Checking in quickly from the laptop while dd sleeps next to me.

She's had two teeth pop through in 2 days and seems to have another 2 coming out now little darling. She's been trying to tell me it hurts, crying and putting her finger in her mouth saying "teet" and then "batch" (for "bacio") asking for a magic kiss. My heart melts.

No real news here just chugging along. Dp out tonight and going away for weekend on another stag do. Spent bank holiday weekend with his family at his mum and dad's.

It's my mum's birthday at weekend and after that (am cooking lavish 5 course Italian meal ) I am starting the first diet of my life. Was a size 10 before dd and am now 12-14 with a large roll of fat around my stomach and love handles which I find repulsive & really get me down when I look in the mirror. It's no mystery - I eat an icecream every day more or less (cravings during pg I kept on with ) & have developed a passion for whipped cream and cake I never had before. I am not looking forward to it tbh. I am not a believer in denying oneself things and having been a 40+ a day smoker until a few years back I already have to deny cigarette cravings every few days. I've put it off and off because I am still bfing but my excuses are running dry - dd does not need me to eat crap! I might start using my gym membership more often too - currently only go to take dd swimming but am thinking aout doing the 4 settle in sessions with her at the creche (which is also a registered nursery) and then going swimming once or twice a week.

Anyway this was supposed to be a quick check in so enough blabbering from me. I am going to online window shop for half hour before dd wakes up.

Hope everyone's ok.

MM

P.S Baiyu well done on finishing play. Have you seen this website? You can design your own dress and have it in ten days!

Harimosmummy · 02/09/2009 13:56

MM - I'd love to meet up.. have lost your email addy again (I know, I'm flippin' useless, aren't I?) Email me at ycbs @ fsmail. net and I'll write back!!!!

Agree with you on the teeth - Haribo is going to the dentist next week for his first check up, he has nearly all his teeth now... (I daren't put my finger in his mouth anymore cos he's going through a bit of a biting phase!!!)

LM - So glad you all enjoyed the wedding... Sounds like a super day!!

No news here really. Both my little monsters are asleep right now. Mimi on me (So, of course, i am UNABLE to do housework but must sit quitely with her!! ) We are really getting into a routine now.

It's funny, because I'm absolutely sure I don't want any more kids, but I found myself thinking yesterday... ahhh...I SOOO could have another one!! - I just adore being a mum (and I have the DSDs here too ATM, so I know what it's like dealing wih the moody stroppiness too!!! )

haha!! I SOOO am never going to though!!!

Hope you are all well.

Flick - Can't wait to show off Mimi to you next week!

MM - Be lovely to meet up soon. Sorry for losing your email addy again!!

AND... (drum roll please...) I have my first day back at Uni on 7th!!!

Mitchell - How are you? How is the school run going?

Can't remembered who asked about the double buggies now, but I just got an old P&T twin and it's GREAT. Much smaller than a standard twin but both seats fully recline so great for two little ones who might need to nap.

Mitchell81 · 02/09/2009 15:53

Harimo, obviously this baby thing suits you if you think you want another afew weeks after having a baby. Good luck for next week, how many days do you need to go in for?

Things are going well here. 3 weeks into being back into the school run and it is all going well. Back to gym today so DS2 first day being left and was fine (A bit worried as its been about 9 weeks since he last went to creche only 2 hours) Had him weighed and he still weighs 13.2 kgs, same weight as at 13 months- now 15 and 1/2 months. The walking obviously paying off.

Mitchell81 · 02/09/2009 15:55

Niknak Lucky you on getting a night away

MM Good luck with the healthy eating (diets make me crave all things bad) and going to gym

Niknak21 · 02/09/2009 19:14

Just wanted to say I love the name Mimi

luckymummy74 · 02/09/2009 19:44

niknak I know I should know this but my brain is frazzled....what line of work are you in?

DD1 went back to playgroup today, 3.5 hours including lunch club...felt like forever!!

MM good luck with the diet...I can offer my services as diet coach....my sis had a minor dress problem 5 weeks before her wedding, zip wouldn't do up by about 4" . Luckily she was living with us after that so I 'boot camped' her into shape!!! Ha ha ha!!! She eventually fitted in her dress and everyone was amazed at how much weight she had lost .

Hm So lovely to hear you so happy and enjoying motherhood (not that you didn't before!!)

Gonna try and put some wedding pics on my profile now....

Have only managed to put 3 photos on my profile, so if you're interested and wanna see more of the wedding and me in general ! then this is me on facebook in the red dress with DD2 in my arms....

I have previously been a bit funny with FB and only had a very few people as friends, close friends and family, think it was the whole people seeing all my business thing....I've only just started accepting people from work!!! Silly, I know, but anyway, I know a lot of you on here are on FB so please invite me to be your friend....I think I am ready to enter the circle of trust....LOL ...just mention your MN nickname in a message so that I know who you are.
Hope that doesn't sound funny.....I know, I am odd!!!

lm unless I am going mad (possible if not likely) your FB link isn't working - or it results in a list of SKs (70 odd of you!!)

I only joined the thread a few months before we all popped but it's strange that I could walk past one of the women I've shared so much with for the past 18 months & we wouldn't even recognise each other! Though it is that anonimity that allows us to be so honest I suspect.

Mitchell81 · 03/09/2009 07:24

LM You and the girls look beautiful.

Harimosmummy · 03/09/2009 12:39

MM - I had the same problem... I got results for 72 SKs!!! But [stalker emoticon] I found the real SK...

LM - I sent you a friend request.

My FB page is here

I took Mimi to the HV today to get her weighed. She's now a whopping 8lbs 13oz!! Got the usual tosh advice about never leaving the baby unattended (given as the HV looked distainfully down her nose as I abandoned Mimi on the change mat and raced after Haribo who had decided to leave the room! ) The HV reckons I should have one hand on the baby at all times. Oh how I laughed!!! That sort of thing would have had me in floods of tears with Haribo - I was very concerned that the HVs thought I was a good mum..

Anyway, a little advice needed... I want to get Haribo a little table and chairs.. he likes to draw now and he also likes to feed himself (and he does not like his high chair!) so I thought it would be nice for him to have a little table to sit at.. Does anyone have one they would recommend? Are they all much of a much-ness, or is it worth paying a bit more for a decent one?

thanks!

luckymummy74 · 03/09/2009 12:46

HM Thanks for inviting me , I have accepted!! Perhaps you could do me some friend suggestions of your FB friends who are FML's if people are struggling to find the real slim shady SK?? Ta luv. I know LP is one but I can't remember her chatname .

I think Ikea do soe good strudy table and chairs. We got a nice wooden one as hand-me-down.

Cheers
