i need some help...
DHs 40th bday coming up soon...need clever ideas and happy to entertain silly expensive ideas as well as cheap and cheerful...but really do need help. he is typical man really...if he wants something he gets it so already has loads of gadgets like i-phone etc. he works long hours amd works hard during that time, likes golf but doesnt really have a lot of time to play at moment.

chilled - what about buying him a vine at a vineyard for a year..About 100 quid I think. You rent the vine and then they get several bottles of it and you can name it ?....There is one in England (Kent - Chapel Down) and several in France I think....

Or one of those "experience" days are nice if he's the man with everything (he sounds like my brother who can afford most things and never waits to let anyone buy them for him so he's impossible to buy for).

Any other ideas and I'll let you know !

aaron rolled over in honour of the new thread (was starting to wonder when he'd get around to it, dd was 6 weeks and ds1 was 4 days doing it according to their baby books.. although i remember ds1 doing it as he damn near gave me heart failure trying to roll of the bed at that age!)

i missed the big moment trying to find his thread but put him back on his tummy to check and he obligingly did it again with a big grin on his face.... we're screwed when he learned to do back to front though as then he's technically mobile.....

he also peed on my new pants... suspect MS is teaching him bad habits

mmmm my DH loves golf and when we visited St Andrews on holiday he was like a little boy in the shop . when he is 40, I shall take him to Manchester City for hospitality weekend, see a match, stadium tour etc (I know - sad git!). He will love it. (Will have to make sure they're playing a crap team though so they win ).

When I was 40, I got a tropical fish aquarium (cost a bloody fortune) as I was pg and couldn't face going anywhere, but did play with the idea of a show/night in London or Eurostar to Brussels for the weekend (can get good deals on eurostar.com)

ROLLING - oh my god, can they do it that early? I remember we were on holiday with DS at around 5 months and I popped to the bathroom leaving him on the floor in the living area only to find that he'd rolled over on to the tiled floor and was wedged under the sofa. Must Must remember not to do what I do daily pop DD onto changing mat on the work surface in the kitchen so she can kick around whilst I wash up . Floor is pretty much concrete.....gulp.

OMG, I just had the biggest panic! I couldn't find you guys, I had to put my nose to the ground and smell for MS's waste products
chilled If he's one of thost that buys for himself alot, maybe something like a race car day or something?
herb I like the sound of the vineyard thing. I'd love that, someone tell my dp please?
PT I don't put Luke on the floor free very often as he satnds a good chance of being kicked. I didn't with ds1 either because we had a dog and she'd go mad licking him if he was on the floor. Luke can hold his head up.....but not much else. I don't think ds1 rolled over until he was about 3 months though. I did buy a baby record book, but forgot to fill it in.

Dp wants to get an aquarium and some tropical fish. I have told him to wait a few years or we'll have pretty fish sliding over the living room floor.

Is everyone else's baby rolling over or is Aaron a very clever boy? Do I need to start showing Luke how to do all these things already or will he just do it when he's ready? (as long as he gets more time on the floor)

SMS - I don't think I ever encouraged DS to do much particularly rolling - he sort of got there in the end... I'm sure your DS2 will do it when he's good and ready. I didn't know babies could roll that early but am glad I know now as I'll be more careful .

We have 8 neon tetras, blue harlequins, 3 of those sucky things that live down the bottom of the tank, 1 guppy with a fancy tail and 5 black and white speckled mollies.....we asked for 5 female mollies but the silly git gave us 4 females and 1 (randy) male and we now have about 20 tiny tiny mollies as well . We either need to find a home for them (and the male) or buy a predator to eat them! Going to get an angel fish as well at some point....tank has only been up and running a couple of months.

Blimey....turning over already

A few days after we got DS2 home (so between a week and two weeks old) I woke up to find him upside down in the bedside cot! I asked DH why he'd done it and he said he hadn't... and I must have done it...

I was pretty furious, sleep deprived, thought it was a joke in extremely poor taste.

Next day I found DS2 upside down again and DH was out... Then I actually saw the little monkey pivoting - truly unbelievable!

The little monkey must have turned himself over.

I think the main reason they do them all so early and so rapidly is that they realised that if they waited and spaced them out a bit more (as is probably a good deal better for the patient), fewer people complete the course.

Eek at the rolling. I always change babies on the floor at home and if I'm somewhere where I can move the changing mat, because I'm paranoid. I know my dad finds it tough to get down on the floor but he does if he has to as part of caring for ds1 on his own. He told me something interesting about my sister who's also recently had her first baby - she's a doctor in emergency medicine and part of her job is at a children's hospital - she plans never to change her dd on a raised table because she's seen too many babies who've had accidents that way. Before my dad said that I thought I might be a bit overly anxious but I'm sticking with it now.

morning, belated birthday wishes for the two birthday girls yesterday, sorry, think I missed it then.

chilled for my DH's 40th I bought him a 40" sony bravia flatscreen, one inch for each year of his life. Cheaper ideas are the red letter type days. For christmas I bought DH a rally day in a Subaru as he is mad about them (must remind him to book it for when we are back in UK in the summer)

swampy, glad to see you are still around as don't think I've seen you for a while on here. There are quite a few that are missing?

herby, I went all cold reading about putting DD on the worksurface. I guess we've all done it at times but you just never know when they are going to do their first roll.
I remember when DD was a few months old, I'd left her on the bed whilst I got dressed as she couldn't roll (I thought) she suddenly rolled over twice and off the end of the bed before I could catch her. Thankfully she was ok but I learnt my lesson

I'm very jealous of your forthcoming meet up and hope you will be doing some in the summer and haven't all gone back to work.

Manic day here today, got to pack for myself, DH and two little one's and make sure DD1 has packed everything she needs as she is going straight back to the UK from our holiday and she ALWAYS forgets to pack something.

Not sure I'll be on much the next few weeks although the person I'm swopping with is a MNer so hopefully she'll be ok for me to use her computer and she can use mine in the UK
