chilledmama · 02/04/2009 08:47

eek...I've just bought him 2 tickets to the Madonna concert in the summer...

nkweto · 02/04/2009 09:15

just checking into the new thread..

rolling ??? !! oh no, don't tell me they are mobile already . very funny about the pivoting baby swampy..

SomeMightSay · 02/04/2009 09:19

Morning. Much better night last night. Ds still didn't settle well, but dp stayed in with him for a while.
Dp actually offered to get up for the 3am feed!! We went to bed at 10, and he said then, "you do the 11pm one (I was reading my book and planned to stay awake anyway), and wake me when he wakes at 3 and I'll do that

Calico1 · 02/04/2009 09:23

ah - found you all.

OMG rolling babies already!! DD not interested in moving yet thankfully. She's still tiny but just graduated into 0 - 3 month babygros even if they are a bit baggy around her little twiglet legs.

PinkTulips · 02/04/2009 09:55

swampy...aaron does the spinning around on his head thing too.... tis very funny when i put him on dd's bed while i get the other two dressed and he spends his whole time up there doing slow motion breakdancing

sms.... when i mentioned in passing to dp that i was surprised aaron hadn't rolled yet he laughed and said 'well how could he? he's never out of our arms!'... realised he was right, the few times i can safely put him down to play on the floor without risk of being trampled he's not in the humour for it so he gets hardly any floor time.... far cry from pfb dd and her hours of tummy time a day

think mine just roll early because they're contrary little sods... if i put them on their tummies they want to be on their backs, if i put them on their backs they want to be on their fronts once it comes to doing active things like actually moving the lazy genes kick in and they fall way behind on their milestones

mos... i made the same mistake with ds1 and the worst thing was i knew he could roll... i just had a temporary sleep depirved lapse of brain function... dp absolutely lost it with me... poor ds1 was ok though thank god but we had solid floors in the bedroom and i never want to hear that sound again

enjoy your holiday

mumoverseas · 02/04/2009 10:09

god I so need a holiday, preferably without DH who is being a miserable git at the moment. All I want is half an hour of peace and quiet to pack for us all, have a shower, shave my legs etc. Is that too much to ask? Clearly it is in this madhouse.

It is now approx 7 hours til we go to the airport and he has now decided to go online and try to book grand prix tickets for Saturday and Sunday. He was having problems doing it on our laptop and couldn't print off the voucher so had to go into work. Bearing in mind I suggested we do this around 5 weeks ago, then 4 weeks ago, 3,2 etc, I think I'm more than a little justified being thoroughly pissed off with him. To quote a lovely word I picked up from mnet, he is being a twunt
He thinks I am going over the top by wanting to pack in hand luggage more than enough nappies, snacks, formula milks and a change of clothes for DD and DS. Bearing in mind we have a 1 1/2 hour flight to Dubai (plus at least 2 hours at Riyadh airport first) then 3 hours on the ground in Dubai and then around a 7 hour flight to Malaysia and then maybe 2 hours before we get to the villa, I don't think its unreasonable to be on the safe side rather than arrive with a couple of shit/vomit covered starving children? Am I brave enough to post this in AIBU? No, probably not but it feels better just to type it

Beantin · 02/04/2009 10:13

Hey all.

Loved the comments about velcro, hee hee.

Thought was supposed to be sunny here today and was looking forward to finally getting out the house today for something nicer than the docs but it's miserable looking and have only just been able to turn the lights off

Doc was helpful, I think. Infant Gaviscon made Luc go scarily quiet last night - unfortunately it didn't last long enough for a nappy change and putting him to bed

Wasn't too bad a night in all, but need to find a way to stop him waking up at 3am

He has made moves in the general direction of rolling - seems to know he could do it, but is not quite sure how.

Changing him on the floor might be a wee bit draughty in our house, but might be the answer we're looking for - we are using a table we already had for changing but don't think is tall enough as we're both suffering back ache every time we change him.

Calico1 - Luc has grown out the bottom of his 0-3mth suits already. Poor thing looks like the incredible hulk as I cut the feet off but quickly, so they are a bit raggedy (?).

Right few mins to sort some stuff out as he's stirring. What to do today with no sunshine? And that avoids any protesters?

Beantin · 02/04/2009 10:14

mumoverseas happy hols Am v v v v

mumoverseas · 02/04/2009 10:39

don't think you'd want to spend 2 weeks with my DH the mood he is in

MarkStretch · 02/04/2009 10:48

PT I was just reading the thread thinking 'blimey, F hasn't rolled yet' when I too remembered we never bloody put him down so how can he! He is always being cuddled by someone in this house.

Maybe he should have some floor time soon.

Luckily we had a good night despite the jabs, I took him to bed for a feed at half 7 and fell asleep. Got up at 9, cleaned my teeth, went back to bed and that was it until 7am. He woke for a couple of feeds but I just nudged a tit his way and snoozed.

(I secretly love DH being on nights sometimes - don't tell him though...)

swampster · 02/04/2009 11:37

Never had a changing table, too creaky to reach the floor. I change mine on the bed/bedside cot (I knew it had a use, seeing as how he sleeps in my bed!) if upstairs, on the sofa if downstairs. Bed is big enough not to fall out of for the moment, sofa slopes backward so still difficult to escape from.

I did hear a horrid story of a friend of a friend's baby who spent a loooooooong time (like months!) in hospital, pretty much in traction , having fallen off a changing table.

LittleMissNorty · 02/04/2009 11:44

Happy Holidays MOS....may your travelling be smooth and peaceful

I've got a changing table upstairs (as I have a bad back) but the changing mat is shaped so it comes up at either side like this. Everything I need is within easy reach as well.

When I had DD, I used to change her on a mat on top of her toy box , one day I turned around, literally for 2 seconds to pick up a babygro, and she done a head over heels backwards and landed head first in a gap between the toy box and cot. Something I will never forget. This time, I was a little more prepared and got a table at the right height (as my back used to ache like mad bening over with DD) and a proper changing mat.

Just put my moses basket on e-bay .....no more babies in this house

SomeMightSay · 02/04/2009 12:53

Oh mos YANBU. Blardy men! I wouldn't strat a thread in AIBU? either, I think people just disagree for the sake of kicking off rather than their actual thoughts sometimes. I don't understand this site really, is completely mad. One day, you see a post about (for example) smoking and if you say you do, you're the biggest scum bag and the following day, someone will start a thread saying I can't believe people still smoke and she was worse than flamed! Crazy crazy crazy stuff.
Back to you though, I think it's very sensible to take extra, if you don't then they will be covered in god knows what, but if you do take it all, the dc's will be fine and your dh will say "told you so"

OMFG!!!!!!
We were in Tescos, both boys are in the pushchair which is tandem, an older lady was walking towards us smiling and laughing at ds1 who was calling out god knows what and flapping his arms about. Anyway, as she got closer she saw Luke in the back and said "oh, look, and another one their" I smiled, then she pointed at my middle bit and said "and another one there" (!!!!) Now, I know I'm a bit fat, but it's only been 8 weeks, I am in a size 16/18, but I am 5'11.....Is it really bad that I wanted to pub
nch her? even though she was about 70? Not really, but I did go over to the clothes section and have a look in the mirror. I looked and thought OMG, you fat cow, but then reminded myself that I have had 2 babies in 2 years and my body looks like this for a reason. A reason I am very proud of. So I feel ok about it now.
I hve a friend coming over in a bit, we're both tight on money as pay day's tomoz for her and for dp, so we'll go to the park or something.
Shall I admit to her that on nice-ish days when I have no money, I take ds1 (or now 2) down to the building site at the bottom of the road and we spend half hour watching the diggers and the cranes?

catstar · 02/04/2009 12:56

Hi everyone - hope all well? As always, haven't managed to catch up properly on everyone's news and chat - too wrapped up in my own little world at the moment .

I'm finding it even harder this time round and going through a bit of a low stage at the moment. I'm sure it's all down to lack of sleep, but a combination of terrible nights with Sam and awful day time behaviour from DD are doing me in!

Sam's still feeding about every three hours, even during the night, though we try other things to fob him off, it always comes back to hunger! He sometimes takes up to 2 hours to settle after a night feed, waking up hungry an hour later for more. He's 5 weeks now, but I feel he should be able to for longer than 3 hours at night. He has breast milk during the day and formula at night. I know they're all different, but what are other 5 week olds doing?

DD is a green eyed monster and still hits and scratches Sam at every given opportunity . It's really upsetting me - he's got a mark on his eyebrow from Tinkywinky! I've had to leave countless toddler groups early due to tantrums and have now booked some extra nursery sessions over Easter to ease the burden!! AAAAARRRRGGGGGHHHHH!

Feel better for that!

Haven't managed to get on laptop much because DH hogs it morning and night cos he's playing the stock market. I won't complain though because he's actually making some money ! Am very impressed because it means we can get the patio done this month ready for the summer!

Oh God - Sam's waking up now and I still need to express!!!

Did I see mention of a London meet up soon. I'd love to try and make it if someone could tell me when and where!

Right, he's beetroot red now so gotta go.

Take care y'all and happy birthdays!

PinkTulips · 02/04/2009 13:54

catstar... i can count on one hand the amount of times aaron has gone longer than 2 hours between feeds so far.

they do feed constantly at this age and the best thing you can do is just to relax and let him tell you when he's hungry. it really does sound like he just needs more feeding and much as you might like to get into a longer spaced routine if he's hungry he's hungry... and it really is easier to just feed him than to spend an hour fighting a cranky screaming baby

sms.... that lady was obviously senilr... how on earth could you be noticably pregnant with and newborn baby fgs! if she'd thought for 1 second before opening her mouth she'd have realised. bet it's not as bad as that anyway... people like her comment even if your tummy is barely a bump..... the amount of people that commented when i was hardly noticably pregnant was shocking... they must have a lot of wrong guesses!

i've never owned a changing table, always changed on the bed, floor or couch.

jenniferturkington · 02/04/2009 13:54

afternoon all,
haven't had a proper catch up, like catstar I'm in my own little world at the moment.
catstar dd is 6 weeks and still feeding every 3 hours too. we have had a couple of random 5 hour blocks, but not at a useful time (she did it from 6.30pm)! Still early days... It is my ds I'm more concerned about- we are now up to 12 nights in a row of more or less constant waking, we are all exhausted and feeling at a loss as to what is causing it
sms my DS would love it if there was a building site at the end of the road!He loves 'bin day', just watching the lorry from the top window for the 20 mins it's in view

rosieposey · 02/04/2009 15:19

Hello all,

SMS dont worry about being a 16/18 - im alot bigger than you as you will see next week but i dont let it worry me too much. You are obviously slim everywhere else for her to say that as all the time ive been big all over no one has ever asked me if im pregnant - take some comfort in the fact that its only your tummy and as you said you have had two babies in a very short space of time, it will go soon enough if you want it to

MOS good luck with your packing - i dont bloody envy you! Your holiday sounds wonderful you lucky thing. Have a great time

PT i cant belive Aaron is rolling over, Milo is nowhere near doing that although tbh i think he needs a bit more tummy time to help him out.

Im a little worried about him - and i know its probably paranoia but he doesnt seem that interested in faces, he will look straight past me or DH to things over our shoulder or turn his head to look at something next to him. I always thought that babies were into faces. He does smile very occasionally maybe once every couple of days but he is 8 weeks tomorrow and i just cant remember when they start to do things like smile all the time and roll over and stare at your face I know there is probably nothing to worry about but i cant help it - im a worrier!

Good news on the diabetes front though - im on tablets which im pleased about, i would have hated to have had to inject again although will need to test my bloods which is a PITH. I think that the time i waited for my appt at that ante natal clinic yesterday was the longest ever! My appt was at 4.15 and i was seen at 10 to 7 in the evening. I have never known them to run over that late - it was a nightmare!

Dinky hope you are managing to get some rest in between all that racket going on outside your house

Thanks for the parking advice, i am going to try a couple of hotels for parking in Russell Square as it seem to be the cheapest option. I will bring a picnic for me and the girls in the afternoon as well. They are really quite excited at the idea of a day out in London as am i about meeting up with you all at long last.

Catstar all the details are on FB about the meet Im never sure if i should mention it on here or not so i just went to check the FB group? HTH

Calico1 · 02/04/2009 15:34

SMS and JenniferT - I like your stories about amusing DC's with watching bin men and road diggers. My DS loves going to look at an abandoned car next to the local park so we've been several times this week to see the 'broken car' rather than go to the swings

Catstar - sorry to hear that your DD is bashing your DS. Not really had too much of a problem here unless DH is holding the baby. Have you tried to involve her with 'helping' out at nappy changes etc? I did catch my DS holding DD's nose the other day - luckily he hadn't put his hand over her mouth as well....I think he was trying to stop her hiccups.

SMS - don't take strangers comments to heart - I had two people today ask if DD was a boy - she was wearing a bright pink flowery babygro at the time....

LittleMissNorty · 02/04/2009 15:42

Rosie, please don't worry about Milo and looking at things. My DS is exactly the same and I was getting very upset a couple of weeks ago....I'd managed to convince myself he couldn't see (and that it was all my fault cos I have been on ADs since 18 weeks pg )....my anxiety got the better of me and the GP said everything was fine at his 6 week check. I made him do all sorts of things to make sure all was OK but he did say it could be another 3-4 weeks before he focused on me properly. And to be fair, sometimes he does and I get big grins....just not as often as I did with DD...perhaps its a boy thing....he can be a miserable little bugger!

Easier said than done not to worry though....especially if you're a born worrier like I am!

SomeMightSay · 02/04/2009 18:14

Catstar Luke is 8 weeks now, and ds1 can still be a bit nasty and hit him and kick him and so on, but it is less frequent, with each passing week the balance seems to move a little, ds1 will spend a bit more time being nice and a bit less time being nasty, so it will get easier.
jenT I should think the reason for your ds waking is the baby tbh. How old's your ds? Mine has been waking up quite a bit since Luke was born but I'm so exhausted most of the time I just put him straight in bed with me which now isn't working either. Although he is still waking, I have found that taking the baby away from the main room before ds1's bath time has helped a little bit as i think he can see that the baby has gone to bed too and we aren't sending ds1 to bed and keeping baby with us iyswim.
rosie Luke was 8 weeks yesterday and he also seems to stare over my shoulder instead of directly at me, but isn't their vision still pretty blurred? But, if you are worried, get him looked at, I'm sure it's nothing as sounds pretty normal, but IMO/E you have to listen to that little niggling voice.
Luke's hearing test came back normal, but I'm not sure whether he can actually hear me, he desn't follow the sound of my voice or turn hi head when I shake rattles in different places, but he will 'jump' at loud noises but that could just be vibrations off the floor so he feels it rather than hears it. I'm sure he's fine too, but like you, I'm a worrier and there is some little voice telling me to get it checked.
Calico Don't get me started on this one. Ds1, race car trainers, jeans, big blue coat, blue blanket and a blue steering wheel attached to pushchair and peole always asked if he was a boy or a girl. Nutters.

Thanks for all your comments about ignoring the lady in Tescos, you are all right, it would be impossible for me to be noticeably pregnant atm, or even for me to know if I was, but I'm ok about it, a few shaky minutes where I nearly put the choc chip cookies back on the shelf, but quickly recovered!
rosie I have a huge arse too though. Massive. And bingo wings. But hey, who cares, I trapped my man. lol

MarkStretch · 02/04/2009 18:29

Wow Policywonk is stunning isn't she?

I keep gazing at her lovely face every time I'm on the homepage.

I realise this makes me a weirdo.

I also told my friend, well squeaked at her actually, 'I'm going to LONDON to meet some friends, well not so much friends, well sort of...erm.... well, OK I'm going to London to meet a load of people off t'internet I've never met before but they are actually already kind of friends!'

She looked at me like this

swampster · 02/04/2009 18:34

I've told people I am meeting my imaginary friends

swampster · 02/04/2009 18:34

And yes, she is a right cutie!

MarkStretch · 02/04/2009 18:35

Isn't she stunning though Swampy, isn't she? Isn't she? Isn't she?
