Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
SalLikesCoffee · 28/03/2009 19:34

Ladybee, once you have your wedding and your long holiday (of which I'm majorly - can only get one week at a time until Sep, urgh), it'll all be worth it, just hang in there!

Re babies: I know what you mean. Probably nature and all that, no that they're not babies anymore (damn damn damn) the thought of another probably comes naturally. I just keep thinking about the practical problems with absolutely no family support around etc and then I'm ok again for a while. Will def have another (or rather, if I can of course) when we're home one day. Sucks a little not knowing when that will be, but hey ho.

Re your skin: Perhaps try something completely perfume free until your skin is better? Not really the same, but when stressed my brother's skin gets very, very sensitive. Can't even do flower oils etc (my mom's similar, so probably hereditary). Plain aquas cream seems to be fine, and can be used for cleaning, moisturising etc. Hope you find something that works, or that when your hormones change again, it settles by itself.

SalLikesCoffee · 28/03/2009 19:48

Peachy, I know you can never guarantee weather and all that, but if I had to guess so I can book, when would you recommend I book?

And the other thing: where would be nice? Since neither dh nor myself do all-inclusive-resorts-type-of-holidays, and we like to be on our own on holidays (as in no tour groups etc), is there anywhere rather secluded that you think might be good. (Uhm, well, now you can see what complete social misfits we are and why I want to go and live in the middle of nowhere in Cambodia!!! ) I don't want to ruin my new camping plans by picking somewhere that we might both hate, not because of the idea, but because of the setup. We can then gradually move to more crowded places, and by the time R needs lots of little friends we might be approaching normality!

SalLikesCoffee · 28/03/2009 19:55

For the first time, I'm hoping to find a place with tipis (or similar) so that we don't have to buy a lot of camping equipment in case it doesn't work out.

EllieG · 28/03/2009 20:00

ladybee - what about the stuff they advise for babies? Molly gets very dry skin, she is ever such a sensitive little flower (LOL) and I use doublebase or aquous cream.

sal - Oh oh I want to go to a wart-torn country too! (sorry to be pendantic but that just made me snort my G&T in most unlady-like manner). Oh and cottage we are going to in France is here normally I do not return places either but this was so lovely with the baby and DSD - big one could get up early every morning to hunt for eggs and ran wild for a week with other kids chasing sheep and stuff and Molly laughed at the chickens and this year will be able to chase them hopefully!

New fish and chip restaurant opened in the village and went there tonight. Am full to bursting of some kind of sustainably fished fish and lovely chips mmmmmmmm soooo happy

LadyBee · 28/03/2009 20:06

that's a good idea - I've been using some Avene stuff but it's clearly not helping, don't know why I'm continuing with it. Will stroll up to local pharmacy tomorrow and see whether they've got some plain old aqueous cream there.

Your posh fish n chips sound lovely. We're having soup and homemade bread..just waiting for the bread..it's really cold tonight, am being v sad and worrying about the spring flowers, it feels like frost

SalLikesCoffee · 28/03/2009 20:13

Ellie! / That'll teach me to check what I've typed before posting!

Am also cringing about the "aquas cream" spelling... Honestly, on occasion I can spell. It's just that I save it for Christmases and Birthdays!

No idea about dinner. I've got a mix going for R in the slow cooker - might just take some out, spice it up a bit and eat on rice for dinner.

EllieG · 28/03/2009 20:13

Oh yes I forgot how to spell aqueous...oops. Tis a hard word for one who has had a big gin though....

DH bought a film for tonight - got all excited til I realised he's got some crappy 1970's film supposed to be 'a chilling vision of the future' yaaaaaawwwwwnnnnn. Am sulking a bit cos I wanted to snuggle up with a romcom but no such luck!

EllieG · 28/03/2009 20:17

ladybee are we friends on facebook? I forget your proper name if so - are your initials BP?

LadyBee · 28/03/2009 22:19

Nope, not me . I've got a facebook profile but hardly ever go there so haven't got any of you lot as friends on it.

yet.

For lovely romcom i recommend Baby Mama. It's about a woman who uses a surrogate mother etc etc. Is surprisingly gently warmly funny but does have the usual completely-un-like-anything-remotely-resembling-reality-of-childbirth-birth-scene.

I've been exploring mumsnet. There are some very odd little grouplets on here. I find the pram ladies quite funny (in both senses of the word). I think I've been spending too much time reading them though, as I now want a new buggy too

SalLikesCoffee · 28/03/2009 22:30

Haven't seen pram ladies, but have just spent ages reading through camping threads again, and am all worked up to go camping NOW! (Dh still not convinced I'd survive the night - the doubter!)

I often occasionally check active conversations, and there were some serious weirdos on there the other day! Strange, as in making up horrible things, seriously abusive (not to me, I was just watching from the side), got a bit horrible in the end. So now a bit off the general chat ones. It's probably to be expected I guess - anonymous internet site and all that, but you do wonder sometimes why someone would make up things like their children dying etc. Horrible.

I also like some of the travel threads, always get itching to go places when I read those.

ScorpiowithabigS · 29/03/2009 10:13

I love the pram thread and often lurk

DH has gone, going to miss him so much.

Sal, Cuba is nice, my parents really liked it and they do not do 'package' either.

Ellie i am of France, i love love love it there, but want to see other places too, so this year its Malta in summer and we are seeing friends in Oslo in October.

LadyBee - i have wanted babies since i was about 12 (seriously) and i pretty much want a new one non-stop. We have decided to give ttc a go, we were both cautious because of the mc, but have decided to carry on trying. We were at the point of maybe having to sort contraception because we are scared, but i see my dc4 in my life more than i dont. Hoping i may have a tiny one by this time next year, god willing. I'm out this month anyway as DH is away and i ov next week. 4 will be my lot though, i think

VS - hope you're ok, be strong all of you

I don't know what to have for dinner today. Hate cooking.

VictorianSqualor · 29/03/2009 11:23

Red hair eek

We're all holding up here, just wish there was more I could do.

BTW, Ellie, bp is MHAH.

OP posts:
SalLikesCoffee · 29/03/2009 13:11

That's nice, VS! Suits you.

SalLikesCoffee · 29/03/2009 13:12

Uhm, as in looks, although I do see you as quite feisty anyway!

Peachy · 29/03/2009 18:33

Sal I take it you're not stuck with school hols- so I know an excelent site that is full in the hols but OK elsewhere (availablility dates are shown on the site)- I would suggest the latter end of June tbh, usually nicest. Try here where we will be in May.

Alternatively I can recommend here where we go often, this one in the New Forest or there's a great one called Wood farm in Charmouth but their website is down this second- it's a nice site though

Pram Ladies? - just don't get it. Would love a new buggy but they are seriously obsessive.

Peachy · 29/03/2009 18:35

Oh and Sal you want teh UK Campsite website- best site reviews there are LOL.

DH was very anti camping..... his idea of a holiday was vegas or a cruise: now he's a serious addict (phew.... vegas would ahve thrown me a bit!)

ScorpiowithabigS · 29/03/2009 19:30

You are very brave ladies to do camping

People keep saying to DH, on FB and in RL, 'behave', 'beware of the ladies who are actually ladyboys' etc, 'strap something on it' etc, i mean why?? Why even think he would do that? Dirty gits. He is in surrey now, flying tomorrow night.

ScorpiowithabigS · 29/03/2009 19:42

Oh & Peachy you are not getting away with coming to Cornwall and not seeing me

Mimi & Bas can meet

SalLikesCoffee · 29/03/2009 23:17

Thanks, Peachy. I've read reviews and some of the forums there, looks good.

Having spent most part of the weekend looking at some of the great places recommended, I now need to go to at least five. , lol. I can see why people don't stop once they're into it.

Scorpio, have spoken to my friend quickly earlier, I'm still into suckering her into coming with one weekend! They've camped before, so I want to go on the first weekend on our own - need to make sure we can hack it!

Peachy, how long did your dh take before he was a convert? Immediately or gradual?

ThePFJ · 30/03/2009 08:49

Morning all!

Me and Jack are off to nursery for the second time ever. We have made an easter bonnet for baby and toddler group this Thurs coming, it has a blue lamb on the top. Very fetching. Now have to work out a way to keep it on his head for more than five minutes... possibly involving superglue ribbon...

Peachy · 30/03/2009 09:24

Sal, about two days (we wewre lucky it was a hot summer erhaps!). We were broke and he cottond on it was that or nothing, then aftwr a few days in the sun, lounging aboiut with a beer or on the beach (it was that woodfarm site) he was a convert and upgraded our £35 in Argos sale tent, bought our opwn kit instead of borrowing one and we were off.

It does help he likes gadgets though; we have a cobb cooker, outwell tent, even a carpet for it (!) and he's after a pendant light heater this year so we can go camping at season extremes (I mean easter / September.... those people who camp in December are nuts). if there's a gadget invovled, Dh is laughing!
Add in nice food- no baked beans for us, we find a local fishmongers or organic butchers and cook properly- and its a winner.

Peachy · 30/03/2009 09:29

Oh and happy birthday PAL's little daughter!

I had to make 3 bonnets: DS1 did his with his befriending volunteer, DS3's was by me (!!) as I cant interest him in anything like that, but by ds2 we gave up, covered a hat in papier mache, glued a cup to the top with paintbrush / ruler / pencils in, stuck assorted Easter trimmings , glitter pens, paint and a glue bottle around the edge, DS2 wrote a little Easter prayer and made a cross, then we stuck a big 'Work In Progress' sign to it. The brief did say imaginative.... just have to see how far they go with that LOL!

Next year ds1 will be in upper school, so it changes to an Easter garden; as I am into my gardening big time ATM (it needs a lot of wor though) I'm already lanning the planting LOL

Soph73 · 30/03/2009 12:05

Morning all. Did you all miss me I haven't caught up with all the birthdays, messages, etc. Will give you all a brief run down of what's been going on.

I contracted a hideous chest infection & was signed off work for 2 weeks. I had the most awful antibiotics which made me feel worse but they seem to have cleared most of it up. I'm still coughing but nowhere near as bad. Sam was also really ill & I had to take him to the docs every other day. He has to go back for another check-up tomorrow as he has now finished all his medication. He is still wheezing during the day, but fine at night time so I don't really know what's going on there.

Sam has had his assessment for state financial help & we have to wait about a month to see what we're entitled to.

That's it in very brief terms How are all you lovely ladies & babies .... can we still call them babies if they've had their birthdays????

ThePFJ · 30/03/2009 12:36

Jack will always be my baby!

Glad you are better Soph... poor you.. especially having to go into doc's every 2 days.. that would have tried my patience..

at ds2's bonnet Peachy!

Happy birthday to all our babies I have missed.

xxx

Peachy · 30/03/2009 12:45

Poor you and SanSoph.

Hopethe assistance newsis good; ds3 recieved mobility allowance today (though I knew Fridayas it went into the bank LOL), they'vestill got him markeddown as not needing niht care but tbh can't be arsed to fight it!. Bit pissed that there is no system in placeallowing a family with 2 or more sn kids in receipt of mobility allowance to get a blue badge but am considering raising that with any council delegatesastheystart to drop by soon.... (there should be an 'evil grin' emoticon LOL)
