Oh kayz fingers and toes crossed that it's not a bun in the oven just yet.

Arti apparently feed off the effected side first for every feed and try to feed more often (1 to 1.5 hours offer the boob), I know you are an experienced breastfeeder but in the case of recurrent infections it is advisable to see a breastfeeding counsellor. The wide tooth comb thing is also a good idea comb down your breast towards the nipple.

pmk1 · 23/03/2009 17:57

Hi all,
Have been reading over the weekend, off and on but must admit It is hard to remember everything so I will try for the key things!
Kayz wow possibility of pregnancy? Gosh my cycle hasn't even returned though I realize I'm still fully BF so may not for a bit I guess. I hope it works out the way you hope! Sorry about the falling out over Mothering Sunday weekend? Did you get that sorted?
JJ Hope the accom for the wedding situation is sorted too. Shame you had to stump up for a locum but least he gets to go and hopefully they'll appreciate that.
LadyT Hope you are feeling better re: the legs - it'll be worth it in the end though, have some cheerfulness, and well done! Spot hope you are enjoying your trip and that you feel a bit better
Veggie i know what you mean about the bathed, changed, clean clothes and then vomit! well I've had it out the other end!
Hi MoM! Where do you live in S London? maybe I'm not far. Oh i'll have to catch up on some more and be back as I know there was heaps more...
had a nice Sunday, except went to mil's and sil asked when next baby will arrive (which is fine as i want to have another one sooner rather than later) but mil made a comment about having babies born after Sept is good as they don't get messed up for when they start school etc and joked that we should aim for that with the next one too - what i'm bothered about is she won't ever consider that we may be thinking of moving to Aus one day, (ie perhaps he won't go to school here) and dh just sits there and says nothing. I feel it's best to get the possibility in her head now, rather than springing it on her later should we decide to in fact go, but he thinks why upset her now etc if we don't need to, but it makes my blood boil to have her think i've left home for good..... thoughts?

pmk1 · 23/03/2009 18:00

oh and i said "mothering Sunday" as I've never heard it called that (except from ladyt but dh said he had to get a card that read like that as his G'mother tutted him one year for calling it "Mothers Day"

Veggiemummy · 23/03/2009 18:18

Oh and PD the last time I was at Spitalfields they had the new bit and the old bit. It used to be so good for buying our organic veggies on the weekend. I think the last time I was there I saw Pete Doherty, he was surrounded by these very hip young skinny things who where all seriously trying to get his attention, unfortunately they were all in my way and couldn't hear my excuse me's as I tried to get the pushchair with ds1 through. Pete very kindly told them to get the 'F out the way' for us, he looked quite bored of them but managed a nice smile for me and A.

Wow I have just had ds2 screaming at my boobs for half an hour he is definitely having a growth spurt and my boobs as clearly not producing quickly enough for him, I'm sure they will be caught up by tomorrow. He has fallen asleep now exhausted a not a little miffed with mummy.

Oh and PD if you want a good city farm mudchute farm is great the cafe is run by some ladies who worked with Nigella lawson so nice food and they have fresh scones straight out of the oven every afternoon at 3.

pmk1 · 23/03/2009 18:34

veggie think i'm having the same thing - frustrated baby with not fast enough flow... i've been taking fenugreek, but so far i don't see a difference? i thought it took about 5 doses to get into the system and start to help a bit?

Turniphead1 · 23/03/2009 19:43

Trying to catch up. Sorry to those who had a rubbish Mothering Sunday - esp WG hope today was better lovely. Arti when I had mastitis my nipple didn't hurt, no - but could all be different. Is it a shooting pain - could it be thrush? Hope it gets better. Lal sorry your asthma has been rotten.veggie what a night. You are a better woman than I, I would have been heading for the hills! Glad the coffee maker came into its own. Sorry you are feeling so blue, verso I sort of understand what you mean about being unable to control how you speak to your DH. Sometimes I am a complete cow and despite resolving not to nag etc just cannot help myself. I hope this evening is better.
Katie I would be really interested to read your dissertation. Mine was on the use of Discretion in the Policing of Domestic Violence in the Republic of Ireland (another light read! )

Kayz wow ! I hope I haven't jinxed you - I thought to myself the other day - hmmm won't be too long before we have a pg on the thread I bet (hope that's an OK thing to say - you know what I mean).

I also said to DH we haven't had any mechanical failings in house renovation and THEN jinx - today - boiler and central heating broke and smoke alarms went off for an hour (nearly killing me - mildy hungover from much cheerfulness yesterday). I should be careful of the power of my thought, clearly....Dreadful day.

Ooooh - Veggie - I love the Hoa Lac on Kingsland and also Vietmamese Canteen on Englefield Rd. Have Indian takeway on way but would love some An Viet House yum yum.

lal would love to read that one - love Diana (well apart from the fact that she was a fascist bien sur . For anyone who doesn't know her Diana Mitford was Max Mosely's mum and imprisoned during the war as a Nazi sympathiser - she was married the leader of British facsism Oswald Mosely. She was put into Holloway when Max was only 3 months which may explain a thing or two about his sexual predilictiosn etc ?! . I can swap you it for Mary Lovell's The Mitford Saga - so good. Will look at meetup thread too.

KMP that is annoying about DH. I find it is good to manage my MiLs expectations...I have been making various comments about a quiet christening for L as cannot face a 3 ring bleedin circus like we had for the other two...

LadyT how are the legs honey?

Hi PD Rosmerta and Jolly hope haven;t missed anyone, sure I have.

traceface · 23/03/2009 20:24

hello
lal sorry you're asthma is giving you jip. horrid illness. Have also questioned the position of the apostrophe in Mothers' Day - is it an all-embracing day for all mothers or specifically for each mother?!!!

pmk I think that Mothers' Day and Mothering Sunday are different - according to Wikipaedia anyway.

My dissertation was looking at the extent to which we can influence the educability of children - ie how much does what happens at home affect learning potential. It was interesting at the time!!!

Now who was talking about roadside cafes? Was it Jam? I hold you fully responsible for me making sausage butties for my tea!

I've had a fab day - every time that P's slept I've been organising . Our bookcase was dying under the weight of books (and other stuff) on it, and we also have loads of games which were packed into a cupboard so we never played them because it was such a faff to get them out - anyway we bought a new bookcase so I've been rearranging everything. I was gutted every time P woke up because I had to stop!

Arti - how's the boob? I eased my mastitis with the massage-the-boob-in-a-hot-shower technique, but needed the ABs too. Hope you can avoid them.
Veggie - hope ds2 allows you some more kip tonight. Perhaps he's tired himself out so much he'll have a big long full night's sleep

Jolly - any news on a York date?

Verso - are you feeling any better? Don't be hard on yourself. You're unwell.

Kayz - eek! Hope you'll be surfing the crimson wave very soon!

Think I will finish off my tea with a Cream Egg!

traceface · 23/03/2009 20:26

Very sorry for the wrong 'your' lal. The shame, the shame...

EffiePerine · 23/03/2009 21:18

Never got on with the Mitfords, too clever and cliquey for me . I did love Diana Cooper's autobiographies, another big pal of Evelyn's (and everyone else it seems).

waitinggirl · 23/03/2009 21:51

i played Diana Mitford/Mosley in a radio drama! there was a hysterical dinner party scene with me and oswald - he castigated the butler in true black-shirt fascist style!

am feeling loads better - thanks to everyone for cheery words. madam had her jabs, and spent most of the afternoon to sleep on me in the most delightful way - bless her.

Veggiemummy · 23/03/2009 22:10

Ds2 is up for jabs tomorrow they has to be postponed by a couple of weeks because of the chicken pox. He also has a cranio appointment in the afternoon so big day for him.

Sorry about your asthma Lal does it usually get worse with the pollen season or is it just bad at the moment in general.

Turnip I've done it now I need Vietnamese now. When we were last in London when I met some of you in North London we stayed at Old Street so were just a hop skip and a jump from Kingsland road, we had Vietnamese every night!!

Right I need to wander off and find the weight loss thread.

zoejeanne · 23/03/2009 22:39

Hi everyone, how are you all? DH has returned with the laptop and I?ve finally managed to catch up again. He?s away all this week, so the good news is I?ll be able to spend lots of time chatting (is it weird to miss people you don?t know?), but the bad news is DD and I are missing DH ? I?m just not as good at bath times!

You have entertained me lots, I especially enjoyed

  • spotofcheefullness new name ? it makes me happy every time I read it
  • the memories of brownies and guides ? I was a sixer of the pixies and leader of the thrushes at guides (ironic, considering what a state my nips are in )
  • LadyT and the lemurs
  • Trace and the giant cornflakes (just how big are they?),the bathing controversy and batteries or god
  • Daisy?s DD's concern for her little brother
  • Arti?s breast feeding/table dancing antics in the service station

I really feel for those of you who?ve had rough days since I've last logged on, so sending lots of hugs to verso, trace, spot, WG and others and hoping you?re feeling better again today? Verso well done with the HV, I hope your DH was present to hear her say how well you?re doing so he appreciates you and all you?re going through

SL I?m also thinking of moving DD into her own room, which makes me sad too. There?s a single bed in there, so I?m tempted to move in myself, but I know I?m only doing that for me and she probably won?t even notice if I?m there or not

Arti I find DD has the best naps in her pram, outside in the fresh air ? she can sleep for hours out there. Inside she?s more restless and awake sooner. SL I don?t have to walk with her, but I often start with a quick round the block for the paper so I can do the crossword while she sleeps

JB wow, a tooth! Our LOs are growing up so fast. And MomOrMum, born with a tooth, double wow! Welcome to the thread

I need to book a smear test, just had the reminder letter. A bit of a personal question, but should I have done the deed with DH again since DD?s birth, before I go for the smear? I?m scared of both at the moment (I don?t envy Daisy needing 2, not at all)

LadyT how are your legs doing? I hope all the pain is much better now

Effie I was lucky enough to go to see the Yorkshire premiere of Brideshead at Castle Howard (Brideshead) last year ? the experience was fab, but the film was only ok. I?ve never seen the TV series, so just logged onto lovefilm to order it, as I?ve never heard a bad word about it (I hope I don?t have to wait as long as lal though).

Kayz Freddie?s birthday weekend sounds fab, glad you all enjoyed it. And my fingers are crossed for your period arriving very soon - I'm sure your argument yesterday must have been down to PMT

WG so pleased that DD is happier, and you are too, today

My dissertation was on the history of pi (the number, not the foodstuff ? the research would have been much better if it were pies ) ? the appendix listed the first million digits of pi, do you think my tutor checked everyone of those??

Well, now I've finished this, I'm going to bed - I'm sick of hearing the wind whistling down the chimney, makes me feel cold, brrr. Night night everyone, I hope you all sleep well [hopeful emoticon]

Veggiemummy · 23/03/2009 23:45

Hi ZJ glad your back with us but sad you don't have your DH around at the mo.

Someone mentioned the difficulties of inserting a dummy into LOs mouths in the dark. Having that problem here, I usually end up shoving it into his nose or chin, he doesn't like that. Someone should invent a non toxic lip gloss that is safe for babies and glows in the dark, no trouble finding a dock for the dummy then would there.

Right bed so far so good with the sleeping baby hope it stats that way.

rosmerta · 24/03/2009 08:02

veggie, dummy in the dark problem was me. It would be solved if I could be bothered to sit up!

zj, glad you're back, we'll keep you company while dh is away

Kayz, hope AF has arrived! I've found ABs always mess up my body a bit so hope that's whats happened to you

Am loving the dissertation titles, I didn't do a dissertation, just a final project (spot the meedja student!). I heart studying though & want to do a masters one day. I think I'll always be a student, though one who finishes the courses

kayzr · 24/03/2009 08:08

Morning,

My period has arrived!!! Only 3 days late!!

I don't know if we'll make up with DH's sister. I am sick of her shouting at DH and then expecting everything to be normal again. They wanted DS1 for a few days in April but we've decided that they aren't having him. We're quite tempted by moving down to Norfolk, where I'm from but I don't want to move away from Mum and our friends.

Hope everyone is ok. I'll try to get on more now and catch up.

kayzr · 24/03/2009 08:52

Oh and DH is applying for a job at the railway. Hopefully he'll get it.

Turniphead1 · 24/03/2009 08:53

Hi ZJ great to see you back - sorry you are both missing DH.Your dissertation sounds very very clever Mrs Stats! Is there any human interest in it that you could make into a wildly successful science/novel (like Longtitude etc etc?).

Veggie thats a great idea about the lipgloss. I had a similar revelation when L was born - she was on the Biliblanket for her jaundice(a little pad you insert up the back of the babygro that emits a UV light and thus glows in the dark). I thought how handy it was for finding DD in the dark - it was somewhat like b'fing ET.... But I did think babygros with something similar in them would be a positive boon. The light of them would be enough to aid parents to see but not enough to keep babe awake. Would assist with dummy repatriation also. Dragons Den here we come!

trace I meant to say how cute I thought L's comment about the keyboard was. What a perceptive girl. I wonder does mains operated fall into the realm of God or batteries?

Kay glad to hear that AF arrived!!! But sad your SiL is being a pain.

Rosmerta what did you do your final project on - spot the law student who always wished she'd done Meedja or something more interesting?!

WG I am SOOO pleased you played Diana - I know you would have done those plummy tones fabulously. I think I love the language and made-up words they used.

Effie don't let me forget William's cup next time we meet up. Also - I am holding £40 left over money from various people (LadyT, NotquitesoBig etc) who left early and overpaid last time we met. Need to know what to do with it!!

Turniphead1 · 24/03/2009 08:55

xposted - great news Kayz. Hope her gets it (think how thrilled the boys would be!!)

Turniphead1 · 24/03/2009 08:58

"he". Goodness.

Babymakes4 · 24/03/2009 09:40

HEllo again -managed to lose the whole posting rhythm having only just found it! We are all very tired here. DD2 had been a great sleeper (down at 7 and up at 7 with one waking around 3am for the last 4 weeks) but has now developed a tendency to wake at 1 30 and again at 5 30, both times happy and smiling and ready to play. DH thinks it is teething she is 13.5 weeks, but our first got her first tooth at 17 weeks, as did I apparently, but I am not convinced, as I don't think she would be so happy with 'sore teeth', as her sister says! SHe has just learnt to squeal and spends hours making sqealy noises so I am wondering if she is keen to practice her new talent. Tried extra milk yesterday and it made no difference,so we are trying dream feed (which I generally loathe but am so tired I will try anything now!) tonight. Anyway, off to try and tidy bombsite of a house!

Babymakes4 · 24/03/2009 09:57

And I did a dissertation on French short story writing in the 16th century....can't tell you how useful that has been for interpreting Chuggington and Postman Pat!

rosmerta · 24/03/2009 10:04

baby sorry about the waking, it seems a lot of the babies are going through this so you're not alone!

turnip my final project was putting together a small magazine, it all had to be documented & explained! Completely useless though in the real world! Are you practising law at all?

kayz good luck for dh, really hope he gets it.

kayzr · 24/03/2009 10:20

I haven't done a dissertation! But I am doing a history degree with Open University which starts later in the year. So I might have to do a dissertation one day.

SummerLightning · 24/03/2009 10:27

Hi everyone,
Sorry I just have not been able to keep up! Not been on for ages.
Sorry to hear about waking babies. E had been sleeping from 7 til 6am but is gradually waking earlier and earlier this week, waking at 245 last night. Am hopeful it is just a temporary growth spurt and he will go back to normal. I know one wake is still good, but he is now a bit of a pain at going back to sleep and I had got used to my sleep in the week or so he was sleeping like a little angel! Babymakes4 I too hate the dream feed and can't be bothered with it.
Also belated happy mothers day to everyone. wg sorry you had a bad day, but glad you are more chirpy now.
LadyT hope the legs are healing up.
pd nice to see you back online. Oh by the way it was me saying that BLW is trendy and the latest thing. Didn't mean anything against people doing it, more that people round here have not heard of it in general (this was brought on by hearing people talk at NCT about it and 4 girls who all were weaning were saying to another they had not heard of it and sounding puzzled), and it seems like I would have to explain myself if I did it if you see what I mean? Which would mean reading up! Oh did you guess I am lazy on reading up on things. The idea really appeals though and it does make sense. I have a few months to read up on things too so no hurry to decide. Mind you if dopey E does not find his hands before 6 months the decision will be made for me. He still doesn't seem to quite understand that his hands belong to him!
wow there are a lot of arty dissertation types on this thread. I did a degree in Maths so never did one. Though I note zj managed it even though doing Maths/Stats!
kayz glad freddie had a good birthday and PHEW about the period! I have to say the chances of me getting pg by accident at the moment are slim to none as not getting much action!

daisydora · 24/03/2009 10:32

Morning all, not caught up properly yet but want to say 'hello' to MoM

Wg so glad you are feeling better

kayz good luck for your DH's job, am crossing everything I can (even my cevix's)

DS is desperatly trying to roll over at the mo, but keeps getting beached on his side which stresses him out a lot. But its very cute to watch.

DH was a right shit on Mothers Day. Basically got me a card (I know its the thought that counts but it was truly a garage special) but no flowers or anything. Anyway, I said nothing but his guilt must have got the better of him as he disappeared whilst I was bathing the DC's and came back with a half dead bunch of Chrysanths (sp!)and a James Morrison CD for himself I really wish he just hadn't bothered. He then said he was going to get me the new Take That CD but he couldn't find it so I'm to just buy it myself next time I'm out - oh gee thanks can I???? And then he said he was tired and had a lie down for half an hour while I was left to finish sorting the dC's out! I was in bed by 9pm, knackered and in a real hump!
