Cat I used to use a bottlewarmer for nightime feeds, but am now trying to get her used to room temperature bottles, so don't bother with warming any more, especially as she has only woken for nightime feeds about twice in the last week. My theory is that if they are really hungry they will take it however.

artichokes · 07/03/2009 11:02

Glad you had a nice night Daisy.
Cat - I Remembered earlier that DH has suffered from insomnia before and surprisingly he had it cured by acupuncture. Maybe that would be something that could help you with your sleep problems?

I still feel crappy but we decided not to cancel today's lunch guests. I wanted to but this is a long planned peace making lunch to re-build bridges with an old friend who I have drifted apart from because she is not a child person & feels I keep cancelling or turning down invites because of kids. Anyway I felt cancelling due to a breast feeding complication would be the nail in the coffin of our friendship. Therefore I have used the tiny bit of energy I have slaving over a lasagne and apple crumble. Wish me luck, I just want my bed...

traceface · 07/03/2009 11:26

arti - really hope the peace lunch goes well and that you manage a little rest afterward...am sending good sleep vibes to your house for tonight!

Check out my bouncy Phoebe picture! She's so grown up now!

Just wanted to thank you all. I have been lurking for a while (sorry ? sounds a bit creepy I know but have never posted on boards before!). I have two beautiful little girls, the youngest will be 12 weeks old this week. I have been reading the board since she was born and it has been incredibly helpful, so I just wanted to say thank you! When ,my first was born I had a close group of NCT friends who I still have, but who are not yet having their second babies (we have only 19mths between our two) so I haven?t really had anyone to compare notes with about feeding, sleeping etc etc etc and the difference of having two rather than one. Anyway, hearing about all your babies and sleep patterns and feeding etc has just really helped me realise that I am not the only person awake through the night , randomly weepy, not able to fit into my clothes and generally running a bit on empty, although completely besotted with my two little girls! I started off breastfeeding but am now stopping to move onto bottles (DD2 got 2 months less than DD1 but, considering how much I loathe breastfeeding, she will also get 2 months less of me grumbling about it! In addition, both babies were huge (over 10lbs and 11lbs ?although am not diabetic just freak of nature was the conclusion second time round, having decided they must have missed the diabetes first time round!) so they both have seemed happier on the bottle. Anyway, for night feeds, I bring up the water in the bottle, all sealed etc and then add the powder from one of those little dispensers just at the beginning of the feed, same as when I am out and about in the day. I did this for my first as well and she was fine with it? Thank you again!

Nolda · 07/03/2009 14:21

Lovely new thread title. I hope that you have a good time in Dublin, Turnip, and that the nailbed infection improves.

Arti I hope the peacemaking lunch is going well and that the mastitis is getting better.

Hi Hattyyellow. Nice to hear from you. I'm glad that DD3 is fitting in well with your family.

JJ I feel so sad for you and others not having mums around any more. My mother has been away in Sweden for the last 10 days and I have missed her terribly. I can't imagine what I would do if anything happened to her. We have become very close since she moved down here after my dad died 3 years ago.

Veggie How was the snowboarding? I'm very jealous. We hope to save enough for a skiing holiday in 2011 when DD will be 4 and a half and able to have a go on skis.

Kimberly I hope Judah is feeling better today.

WG Sorry you couldn't sleep last night. I've put the bedside light on the floor so it doesn't shine into the moses basket and DS doesn't mind it at all. Might be worth a try if you dare!

Cat I hope the kalms work. Re: swimming, we just put DD in a disposable swim nappy. It might not be worth buying a swimming outfit until you know he likes it.

Trace Loved the picture of bouncing P.

I'm waiting to hear from DH who has taken DD to casualty. She fell off her chair at lunchtime and there was lots of blood coming out of her mouth. I don't normally have a problem with blood but found I really couldn't bear to look. Poor DH who finds this kind of thing difficult in general had to step up. I don't think it's a serious injury but we decided to take her to be on the safe side. I do feel like a rubbish mother though as I couldn't even look.

Thanks everyone for the advice on DS's christening outfit. I get my hands on the family gown tomorrow so will see if it fits and suits and take it from there. DS's hair is beginning to grow so hopefully he will look less like a bald old man by May!

Nolda · 07/03/2009 14:24

Hi Babymakes4. Sorry crossposted with you.

zoejeanne · 07/03/2009 15:55

Hi everyone, I love the new thread title ? Nanny Anne looks lovely, I?d much prefer to be one of her apprentices than one of Alan Sugars, I'm sure she won't be firing any of us!

Babymakes4 welcome aboard, its great to hear from you ? and congratulations on the birth of DD2.

Hatty great to hear from you, your family sounds so content. Do the twins adore DD3 as much as she loves them? DD loves looking at other babies and children, so I wish she had an older sibling (although obviously then I?d have wished they had an older sibling etc etc!)

Veggie very of all the fun you?re having

WG I so miss being able to read in bed too, reading on the sofa just isn?t the same somehow.

Arti hope the mastitis clears up quickly, and what a time for DD to decide to have a bad nights sleep. How?s the lasagne and crumble? I hope you managed to enjoy spending time with your friend and build those bridges, despite feeling grotty ? maybe it?ll have given her an insight as to why you have to cancel when you do.

Cat I got a little wetsuit from jojo maman bebe for DD, but didn?t get it til after the first time we went swimming to check she liked it before shelling out for a cossie that wouldn?t be used. We did stay in the pool longer this week, with it, managed 35 minutes before her arms started to go a bit purpley, rather than 20 minutes the week before. I can?t remember if T is a big lad or not, but if he isn?t then huggies seem to be the only brand of disposable swim nappies that were small enough for DD (up to 13lbs, all others were 16lbs). And take the nappy off ASAP after getting out of the pool ? I didn?t, dried DD and wrapped her in a towel to keep her cosy and laid her on the changing table whilst I sorted out her clothes etc, and came back to discover half the pool had emptied out of her nappy and she was laid in a big puddle in a towel too wet to dry her with.

Trace P is lovely, but so grown up ? she looks far older than DD, how big is she now? I realised how much DD has grown this week at the HV clinic, when someone had a baby just a couple of weeks old and everyone was cooing over her and suddenly my DD wasn?t the tiniest anymore [feeling a bit left out and jealous emoticon]

Nolda your poor DD, I hope it looked a lot worse than it really is, let us know how she is

Right, off to make some muffins now before DD wakes from her nap, yummy

Nolda · 07/03/2009 17:18

Just a quickie to let you know that DD is fine. She just ripped the bit of skin that joins the upper lip to the gum. No damage to her teeth, just lots of blood.

traceface · 07/03/2009 18:13

zoe - Phoebe was born 11th dec so is now just over 12 weeks. i feel a little sad that she's growing so fast and a little jealous of newborns too, like you said!

artichokes · 07/03/2009 19:17

Hi All

Welcome Babymakesfour, I am glad our witherings have been useful to you.

Nolda - your poor DD, is she in pain?

Daisy- I am glad you had a lovely night and hooray for your dh's bottle skills.

I think my antibiotics are starting to work as I feel much better now and my temp is back to normal. I also think DD2 is having a growth spurt as she fed for Britain today which I think helped clear the blocked duct. A growth spurt would also explain why she woke for so many feeds last night. Are they meant to have a spurt at 11/12 weeks?

The peace lunch was nice. It's still a bit awkward though as this one friend really isn't interested in kids. She did not ask one question about the DDs or interact with either of them throughout lunch. She complained about people on Facebook whose status updates focus on their kids as she wants to know about her friends not their "offspring". I felt like pointing out how rude it is to dismiss such a huge part of a friend's life. She is a careercwoman andi would never dream of saying I find advertising boring so please never talk to me about your work and I will never ask about it. However I said nothing and tonight I pointedly updated facebook with info on thevtwp DDs...

artichokes · 07/03/2009 19:18

Sorry - that should say witterings not witherings.

waitinggirl · 07/03/2009 19:58

arti - i like witterings

babymakes4 - welcome!

dd has behaved like a dream today which was lovely for dh to see - she did her fair amount of grizzling, but it always either turned into a sleep or was solved by the boob - she behaved like a textbook baby. he had a proper bath with her yesterday eve (i.e. fully deep) and i went in with her today - it was SUCH FUN!!! she loved it - can't wait to teach her to swim. have posted photo of them in the bath together (don't worry, you can't see any of his bits) because i love it so much - actually, are you allowed to post photos like this on MN?

we went for a walk on hampstead heath with some friends - this couple are having problems conceiving - and the wife has really short periods and is undergoing tests - she's so stressed about it, but she just won't admit that being stressed doesn't help - she is winding herself up into a frenzy about it and (understandably) wants to punch anyone who tells her to try to calm down, think positive thoughts, enjoy life as much as possible and let the investigations take their course. i love them both to bits, but it is so hard to see her put herself under such strain. and i don't think it can be conducive to conceiving. any thoughts? i don't know how people found conceiving their LOs (don't know if some of you were on a ttc thread together?) - we had a couple of miscarriages, and took 6months then 4 to conceive, so pretty average, really (and considering i had crazily long and irregular cycles, that wasn't bad going).

am so pleased dh has shown her df her good side today. it's been a joy!

waitinggirl · 07/03/2009 20:10

arti - i am a spoon: meant to say "i like witherings"

Kimberly1979 · 07/03/2009 20:55

Cat You can make up the warm water for the formula before bed and put it in a thermos. It will stay warm for hours. The other thing you could do would be use bottled water. That way it stays at room temperature. Although I'm sure that some would say you shouldn't use it since it hasn't been boiled. But we use bottled water and it seems to work okay. We haven't had any issues with it.

WG here's my email bignlilreid at hotmail dot com.

Nolda Judah is feeling much better. No more fevers. Seems to be his happy self today!

katie3677 · 07/03/2009 21:01

Cat I take the bottle of water to bed with me and then add the formula from one of these dispensers when she wakes.

Kimberly1979 · 07/03/2009 22:05

I can't remember who was asking about christening outfits for boys... but I came across these outfits today. The company is in the states, but they ship to the UK.

Morning all, have missed quite a lot! I was helping out at the nearly new sale Fri & Sat so was very busy & very tired.

Love the new thread title, & the idea of Nanny Anne being our guardian angel!

wg glad dh got to have a good day with dd. I also miss being able to read in bed, its that lack of personal space with ds2 in the bedroom & dh in the living room, there's nowhere for me in the evenings if I want to be on my own!

arti I think unfortunately there are times when friendships do come to an end. It sounds like your friend isn't even prepared to make a little effort which is a shame. Hope you feel better as well

kayz how was Crufts?!

ladyt you don't have to see the HV if you don't want to! You can weigh dd at home yourself (stand on the scales, then get on again holding dd & work out the difference). Trust me, they won't be beating the door down to get at dd!

cat how are you feeling? Hope you feel a little better as well

verso hope you're ok and have got some rest. Keep us posted

babymakes4 hi, nice to see you!

Ok, what else. Cradle cap I've used Dentonox before which worked, seems to be lots of cheerfulness going on [hic], bottled water for formula - I was always told to use Evian as it was the right mix of minerals etc, not sure if that's true or not as it did come from the HV!

Ds2 is still having 2 bottles a night, we've been trying to drop one but he's not having any of it!

Think that's everything, sorry if I've missed anyone, hope you're all ok.

kayzr · 08/03/2009 08:15

Morning,

I had a lovely time yesterday. I wanted to steal all the cute white fluffy dogs but thought I'd look a bit funny with them under my coat. Thank you ever so much!!

My face has calmed down apart from next to my left eye. It is killing me and feels like I have burnt it but not had anything hot near my eye. So going to make appointment with GP tomorrow.

I am bloody exhausted, it was like a hurricane here overnight and I got hardly any sleep. DS2 slept from 10 until 5 so should have been able to get lots of sleep.

I hope you are all well.

rosmerta · 08/03/2009 08:17

cat ds could be having a growth spurt, things do generally return to normal but he might have more ozs in a feed afterwards

artichokes · 08/03/2009 08:17

Sorry about T's early waking Cat. Does he go back to sleep afterwards? We had an awful spell with DD1 when she used to wake for the day at 5ish and nothing would get her back to sleep. She was about 9 months when that started.

We had another bad night too. I would like to think it's just a growth spurt, or sods law because I'm ill, but I fear it may be a new phase. DD2 woke every three hours 'tip 5am and then slept for another hour before rising for good at 6.20am. Yawn.

WG - sorry about your friend. I have no real advice as was lucky enough to conceive quickly both times despite a previous diagnosis of polycystic ovaries. I love yr bath picture. I adore having baths with my girls. I have a photo of my breastfeeding DD2 in a bath full of bubbles but I might not post that one...

kayzr · 08/03/2009 08:19

We've always been told not to use bottled water for formula as the minerals in them can sometimes be deadly. I can not remember for the life of me where I read it though.

traceface · 08/03/2009 09:04

Morning!

I think we're growth spurting here too - P did another night of 2 hourly feeds last night. She is always 2 hourly in the day but usually only feeds only 2 or 3 times between 7 and 7 - was 6 times last night! I hope some of the growth goes to her head! Will be yawning my way through church this morning

welcome babymakes4! You've made me wonder if anyone else is lurking...if so, come and join the fun!

anyone heard from Poisondwarf?

kayzr · 08/03/2009 09:15

I've just been looking on the Eurostar website and I am most annoyed to be classed as a youth!! It said that children under 4 travel free if with an accompanying adult. So technically I wouldn't be able to travel with my own kids!!! For some reason it has really annoyed me.
