Veggiemummy · 21/03/2009 19:54

Don't you just love it when you get them all clean and tanked on milk ready for bed and they go a spew all that lively milk down their clean body & jammies.

majormoo · 21/03/2009 21:02

Hi MOM-wow born with a tooth! I think it's fine to dip in and out of the thread.

LadyT hope the legs are feeling better this evening after some pain killers.

Verso sounds like you are doing really well.

Somehow I got out of doing a dissertation at university even though I studied English.

'The Young Victoria' was enjoyable enough for someone who usually only gets to see the likes of 'BOLT 3-D' 'The Secret of Moonacre' etc.

It's been such a lovely day here-had a picnic on the beach which was fab.

I have an incredible sleeping baby at the moment, so am just waiting for it all to go pear shaped at about 5 months (this is what happened with his siblings anyway)

jumpjockey · 21/03/2009 21:03

Evening all

veggie sorry to hear about the vom hope everything's cleaned up and you've got a sleepy baby again.

Effie my favourite riddles (obviously) are these 3 (handily someone's put the rude ones on a single page!) naughty riddles

verso glad to hear the sunshine's cheered you up brilliant news about the HV - do you think you might go for the LLL thing? You will now be our official thread BF expert re distractable, I've sometimes bunged a muslin over dd's face while she's feeding to stop her looking away so much DH and marking - tough call. Is he still set on resigning?

LadyT how long before you can wear short skirts? It will be worth it in the end, fabby legs Sorry to hear your assistant's being a pain. Is there any way to try and get her to see you're not competition?

sybil and veggie great advice about the double dosing, dd is definitely teething like mad, had a really dodgy night last night for the first time in ages (up every couple of hours) - though it might be a growth spurt I guess? Anyway - will give her drugs a plenty if that helps. Also intrigued by the powders, more stuff to go to boots for.

superspot hope you're feeling better and the holiday is brilliant

hello MomOrMum - you realise the decision has been made as we'll call you MOM? Welcome to the gang Sorry you've bveen having dodgy nights but we know exactly what you mean about knowing someone else is going through the same things. This thread is a wonderful comfort.

PD/Jam the village with the ducks... is it one where you come down a hill and there's a sign that says "Ducks on road beyond bridge" then the road turns into a one way round the side of some lovely timbered buildings? [cryptic icon] - if so my dad lives not far from there! You must take your families to Chalkney Woods near Earls Colne for the bluebells in the next month or so, they're absolutely beautiful and I used to cycle out to the woods almost every weekend as a nipper and run around with my mates. I might have got up to some other activities there with boyfriends too

arti boden - I knew I was a mum when I was looking through DH's boden catalogue (honest - he loves their trollies) and thought "ooh that's a lovely top" far more often than I ought to admit.

re the wedding, DH reckons just stay at the ancestral home (ahem) and get looked after for free which sounds to me like a splendid idea . The weirdest thing is MIL and FIL are still very much married, it's not as if they're actually separated. She's just a fruitloop.

We're just back from visiting dd's godmother and the lovely baby M. 9 days since the operation and you'd never realise anything had happened, she really is a force of nature. Rather clingy apparently, but that's also just a developmental stage anyway (she's 7 months). What a little star! And mum and dad are doing so well as well, they're coping brilliantly when it must be so scary. Now M is basically fine, and will have another op when she's finished growing, but essentially that's it. God bless you all, docs and nurses at GOSH!

jumpjockey · 21/03/2009 21:07

ooh major cross posted - the beach! how fantastic. Which coast are you on?

Veggiemummy · 21/03/2009 21:29

JJ the way you were talking I assumed they were divorced.

Ds2 asleep now and all cleaned up. I took him alone to Nottingham to have lunch with some friends while dh & ds1 went to Home farm for lunch and animal fun. Was lovely to see my friends but also to have time with just ds1 I think I will try to do it more often. Ds1 missed me (of course) but had a great time with his dad and bless him had bought me some donuts! Yum

JJ cheeky teenage you with the boys in the woods.

Kimberly1979 · 21/03/2009 21:47

Happy Early Mother's Day!!!!! I'm sending virtual hugs and flowers to all of you! Feels a bit odd to be the one being celebrated.

ladyT Sorry to hear your legs are hurting you. Hope they feel better soon! It'll all be worth it when you can show them off this summer!

Welcome momormum Glad you decided to come out of the shadows!

JJ Our DS also loves lying on his changing table. We can put him on it and he'll coo and smile like crazy. Not sure what it is about it... but he likes it... well except for when we actually use it to change his nappy! ha!

verso glad to hear that the meds are kicking in and you are feeling a bit better.

Had a great day today out in the sunshine! We decided to go to the tube station and pick a stop neither of us had ever been to. We ended up in Epping and walked around their town centre and had a nice lunch! DS slept most of the time which was quite nice.

poisondwarf · 21/03/2009 21:50

Veggie perhaps your DS would like to challenge DD in the Spew Olympics. 10 points for each item of clothing (ours or theirs), 20 for hair, 30 per cushion, 50 for each sofa cover, double jackpot bonus points for a full house plus carpet. I must warn you that DD has been training very hard.

jj could be! defo timbered buildings, not sure about the rest. Think there may be a sign near the bridge and a one-way bit but not entirely sure. Is there a clock tower type thingy there? Give us some more clues! Btw I couldn't get your link to work. Fantastic news about baby M.

Veggiemummy · 21/03/2009 21:51

Hey Kimberley happy mothers day to you too. What a good idea with the tube station thing.

Veggiemummy · 21/03/2009 21:56

PD my boy is up for the challenge he once spewed enough to require his babygro, singlet, my top, bra, jeans, undies and sofa cushion cover to need washing.

JamInMyWellies · 21/03/2009 21:59

JJ does this village have the initials W.N.??

PD I am very near Witham and know of Kelvedon we looked at a couple of houses there am also really rubbish have no idea where anything is.

Veggie yeauch DS2 does this nearly every time he gets fresh clothes on.

LadyT I was over your way today we went to Biscster. Very disappointing for me still feeling a tad baby-overweightish to buy anything but got the boys some lovely clothes and bought some Le crueset casseroles that I have been coveting for a while. See sad middle aged mother that I am now was more excited by pots and pans than places like agent provo and Tods shoes. Hope your pins are a bit better tonight.

MorM welcome welcome the more the merrier, we too have ditched the dummy after a particular heinous night he has now found his thumb thank god but have been feeding to sleep to compensate for no dummy. What was that I hear you say rod and back.

Did anyone watch Genius last night with Dave Gorman we are watching on Sky+. I love Dave Gorman.

poisondwarf · 21/03/2009 22:12

Veggie DD does that most days! Ha ha just remembered I was out with Effie at soft play a couple of months ago and DD puked all over my (black) top and all over herself. Ubermum that I am, I had neglected to take a change of clothes out for her. I had to take my top off, rinse it under the tap, put it back on soaking wet then put DD back in her sling still covered in puke. Nice!

Jam I think I know where you are (just looked on a map) - very near by the looks of it. We will be between Braintree & Colchester.

Veggiemummy · 21/03/2009 22:23

See it's better to wear black if you had been in White you would have looked like you were in a wet t-shirt comp. Ds2 even managed to puke on our car yesterday, it has just got back from the panel beating place and I was holding him as I did the click unlock thing and he puke on the nice clean paintwork and it was loads so kind of slid down the door. Nice.

Veggiemummy · 21/03/2009 22:35

Hey Kayz if your around hope the party was great and hooray on a great result. Missed most of the match due to spew and bedtime for ds2 but listened to DH & DS1 celebrating the goals and ds1 kept coming up to give me updates on who had a scored etc.

Turniphead1 · 21/03/2009 23:01

First of all can I just say YAAAAY Ireland - we won the Grand Slam in the rugby I have one very happy DH!

momormum welcome welcome welcome!! Hope the dummy cold turkey goes well and you get some rest. I do find spacing feeds helps my DD get a better feed iyswim - but at the mo we are having mammoth feeds (that I hope are the 12 week growth spurt a few days early.

LadyT grrrr about your assistant. Sooo disappointing. Hard to know what to do but I do know that you would have treated her fairly so to echo Veggie - shame on her!

Effie your Brideshead revisit sounds bliss. I am in love with the btixt the war era and have a Mitford sisters obsession (anyone else??) - even to the extent that DD2's nickname is Boud. They were chums of grumpy ol' Evelyn.

PD so glad to see you back lovie. Going to sign up to Spotify.

Eeks run out of time and need to feed M'Boud.

kayzr · 22/03/2009 06:58

Morning,

I haven't read through. Sorry if I have missed anything important.

The party went really well. As you can probably imagine Freddie has been spoilt rotten. My nice tidy lounge is now covered in new toys.

We had a great day on the train yesterday. Freddie thought it was wonderful. He was telling anyone that would listen that he was on the train.

MIL was ok apart from telling us that one of Dylans feet is not straight and points in the wrong direction. We've looked and can't see anything but I might take him to GP to get checked.

Hope you are all ok.

rosmerta · 22/03/2009 09:17

Morning all, happy mother's day

I'm sorry, I've tried to catch up but haven't been able to properly. I've got some bits so here goes:

kayz glad Freddie's birthday party went well, now to find a space to put all those lovely toys!

ladyT how are the legs, has the pain abated any? Sorry to hear about your assistant, unfortunately there are people that you give chances to & they take advantage . Hope you get it sorted so you can have a happy return to work. Is it likely the company owner will be sympathetic?

jam am of people who have dishwashers! I've never had one & think I doomed to wash up by hand forever! But I am determined that the next house we move to has a fitted kitchen with a dishwasher . Btw, how has it gone sans dummy?

arti Risk brings back memories. It was always part of our new years day hangover recovery plan, that, a chinese takeaway & a hair of the dog . Sorry it wasn't the night you planned but still sounds like fun. I agree as well solo parenting is harder at the weekend, I think because I expect dh to do most of the work on a weekend so when he can't its just a continuation of the week! If that makes any sense whatsoever!

verso how lovely of your hv to be so positive, I hope it helped a little. And well done on dd's school!

major how disappointing of your friend! As others have said I hope she made her dh pay the next day. How was the film anyway?

sybil Hope the party went well, happy birthday to dd2. ikwym about knowing there are others out there doing the same as us. There's a relaxation script we use on our course which is about being up at 4am & looking out of the window, seeing other lights on etc & knowing you're not alone. Its always really popular with the groups!

effie I've never watched or read Brideshead Revisited , I will put it on my to read list immediately.

MomorMum nice to see you! Don't worry about how often you can post, just pop in when you can! It makes me wonder how many other people are lurking?

veggie I've had to have a go at dh this year over Mother's Day. He said he hadn't got me anything because I wasn't his mum (fair enough) but he hadn't got me anything from the boys either on the basis that ds1 had made me something at nursery! Anyway, dh & ds1 popped to Tesco's last night to get a bit of shopping, ds1 came back to tell me they'd bought me some flowers! There went the surprise . And yes, ds2 also usually voms just as he's going to bed even if he's had a burp!

poison thanks for that website link, I'm going to investigate that later, looks great! I'd love to meet up at Kew but can't do Fridays. If you're free any other time I can do Weds & Thurs.

I think ds2 is starting to teeth as well, lots of dribbling & stuffing things in his mouth. We're now down to one bottle a night & it gets later each night when he wakes up for it so am hopeful we may have a sleeping through ds2 soon!

Right, must go get ready, we're off to the ILs today & out for tea.

rosmerta · 22/03/2009 09:21

Did a thread get started about another meetup?

poisondwarf · 22/03/2009 10:19

Happy Mother's Day, especially to all the first timers on the thread and to those whose mums are no longer with us.

Kayz glad you enjoyed the festivities - hope you did too Sybil. It's such a brilliant age isn't it? They are just so entertaining - DS keeps us amazed & amused every single day.

Turnip hiya!

ros I can do this Wed but not the following week. The weather doesn't look good for this Wednesday though, and I'd rather go on a nice day seeing as I haven't been to Kew for years and am unlikely to go again for a long time. Would be up for this Wed if it turns out sunny after all - can you do short notice? Otherwise will have to leave it till after Easter - defo want to go at some point though. Effie - how are Weds/Thursdays for you?

poisondwarf · 22/03/2009 13:43

Just phoned my mum to wish her a happy Mother's Day and apologise for not sending a card. All I got was a load of muttering about what a load of codswallop Mother's Day is anyway and how it was about time she said so.

At that point I had to remind her that she'd just sent me a text with "Best Mum" in a love heart and the message "Pass this heart 2 all your friends who r mums and me. If 3 come back ur a fantastic mum", which was what had reminded me to call her in the first place!

Bloody mothers!

traceface · 22/03/2009 15:36

Happy Mother's Day to all you fab mummies! Am thinking lots of those of you who have lost your mum. This is my 5th mother's day as a mum but weirdly feels like my first. I feel more like a mum now than ever before. very odd.

P seems a bit out of sorts today -not many smiles and just wanting to be held - so I'm obliging and am giving her as many cuddles as she'll have . L has gone to the park with dh. I'm struggling with her again and her wild mood swings - perhaps that explains the mothers day thing - I feel like a better mum to P than I am to L. yesterday L said "I wish I lived with Becki (my friend) because she loves me more than you do". What do you say to that? I feel sad to my core when I think about it.

MOM welcome - thanks for introducing yourself - looking forward to hearing more from you as and when you get chance

spot hope you're feeling better and enjoying your hols

LadyT that's really awkward with your colleague. Hope your conversation with the owner goes well. how are the legs today?

P seems to be dropping off so might see if I can grab 40 winks while the others are out.

see you later xxx

Veggiemummy · 22/03/2009 18:28

Happy mothers day lovely ladies. Have had a nice relaxing day here, breakfast in bed and DH & the boys gave me a coffee maker. I know it's a little over the top for mothers day but I had been promised one when I had provided DH with his heirs. My SIL gets jewelry after her kids so I decided I wanted something and what better for my coffee loving self than a coffee maker, is lovely. Both DH & I remarked on how good it looks in the kitchen, like it's always been there. We've only had it today and don't know how we lived without it. I feel a bit sorry for my lovely plunger, and espresso pot, but oh well.

Oh gotta go...

MomOrMum · 22/03/2009 19:45

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone and Happy Mothers Day! I personally plan to celebrate again on May 10th for Canadian Mother?s Day?.more presents and lie-ins please.

DS is my first, yes. And the ?born with a tooth? sounds more exciting than it is, really. It is just under the surface. I never would have noticed it if the doctor at the tongue tie clinic hadn?t pointed it out.

Glad to hear that others are in the midst of dummy weaning too. Verso: I put your mixed approach to dummy use into action today (no for sleep, yes for screaming in public) ? sometimes needs must in an emergency (like when I want to go for brunch or to the cinema ).

I am sure people have seen this before, but in case not I read the following re: distractible feeders: www.kellymom.com/babyconcerns/distractible-baby.html. Not sure about the main solution being more night feeding though ? yikes! The last two days I have been trying to stretch out feeds during the day to 2.5/3 hourly and this has helped a lot with making sure he is taking a nice full feed each time. So thanks for this advice!

DS went down like a rock tonight at 6:20. I have been trying to hold bedtime off until 7:00 or 7:30 but it always descends into crying after his bath and he is usually too exhausted to feed. Selfishly I thought maybe a later bedtime would mean later first night waking and later waking in the morning but he seemed so much happier going to bed early so I guess I will just have to get used to going to bed early myself. Grumble, grumble?.

EffiePerine · 22/03/2009 20:07

Hope everyone has had a lovely day . I got a mini lie-in and breakfast, but them took the boys out so DH could get some work done. DS2 worried us this eve by screaming himself into a temp (this is not like him) and developing a rash... a spoonful of calpol, lots of cuddles and a short nap seems to have worked for now. Hope it isn't chicken pox, which is going the rounds atm.

waitinggirl · 22/03/2009 20:12

hello all - welcome MOM

well, what a god-damned awful first mother's day i've had. currently in tears on the sofa listening to dd wail in dh's arms trying to get her to sleep after she's been a right pain in the arse all day. feeling like i'm losing my confidence in how to deal wiht her - i've now got her for the entire week - 2nd set of jabs tomorrow, so who knows how she'll react to those and what a way to start the week. doctor's appt on tues to talk about the yellow/orange tongue and her vomming which seems to belie the laws of physics in terms of amount produced and yet she still continues to put on weight, so should feel grateful. but her photo comes up on my laptop and i am ashamed to say i feel resentful and angry towards her. not in a good place today.

MomOrMum · 22/03/2009 20:26

So sorry to hear that WG. I know exactly what you mean about losing confidence. Somewhere around week 7 or 8 I really thought I had cracked it. Things went swimmingly for a few weeks after that and now things are tits up at week 14. And the screaming is so much harder to take now because I feel like I should know what to do about it by now, but I don't. Had a 2 hour straight screaming at top of lungs episode (tears, hot red face)in the middle of the afternoon this week and still have no idea what it was about. Eventually resorted to the swaddle and rocking in front of the extractor fan - haven't had to do that for a number of weeks now! Then he just stopped screaming as abrubtly as he had started and sat in his bouncy chair happily. Didn't seem to need to eat, didn't seem to need to sleep. What?!

Can you believe a well meaning friend sent me a "congratulations" email because I had got to the 3 month mark and so would be starting to "get my life back now". Ha double ha ha!

I can't help with the orange tongue or vomitting but hope the doctor is able to help.
