katie3677 · 24/03/2009 20:53

Is anybody else having problems viewing this thread? The messages are all over on the right hand side on mine.
Just a quickie...
Bisou, good luck for tonight, kind of hope I'm not awake to watch it, but will check if it'son replay tomorrow.
Arti, sorry your suffering, hope you feel better soon.
Kayz hope something turns up for your dh soon. Very excited about your history course, do you know waht bits you'll be studying? I love history.
Trace I am also very forgetful, it's the interrupted sleep I'm sure. I keep forgetting to get things in from the car, found a box of eggs and bottle of milk today, God knows how long they had been in there, yuk!
Two good bits of news for me today. DS has got into our first choice of school, and my Dad finally gave me some of the money I was due, not as much as I'd hoped but apparently there is more to come. At least it will pay for the kitchen. One bad bit of news is that I had the bailiffs round last night . DH had forgotten to pay the council tax bill, despite me repeatedly nagging asking him .

Veggiemummy · 24/03/2009 21:15

Oh dear Katie was DH home at the time bet he feels a bit silly. MN is back to normal for me now went a bit mental for a bit.

Oh something else funny today. DS2 is really enjoying sitting up supported by a boomerang pillow but as always all he wants to do is look at his hands and eat them, but on the floor on his back front or side that is easy to do. When he is sitting up he leans forward to eat his hands but his hands move forward to so he leans further forward until he falls forward. He ends up head on the ground butt up in the air but happy because he can get his hands in his mouth.

Veggiemummy · 24/03/2009 21:24

Oh just saw the dad of the missing girl, Claudia Lawrence, on the news. That poor man he looks completely on edge what a horrible thing to have to go through, I hope she is ok.

majormoo · 24/03/2009 22:12

my page looks weird too so will catch up on everyone's news tomorrow.
Have had a horrible day here. MIL admitted to hospital yesterday as being violently sick. Was operated on today and had partly ruptured appendix. We were waiting for hours for any news-FIL kept trying to get info and being told 'there were complications in theatre.' All very frightening. She will be in intensive care for the next couple of days but is a relief to know op is over, she is alive and it isn't cancer. Off to bed now.

SummerLightning · 24/03/2009 22:14

arti that sounds truly awful. I really hope you get better and don't need to go into hospital.
veggie that sounds hilarious. My DS is similar does nothing except stuff his fists in his gob all the time and loves it. so will have to try that.
kayz hope your DH gets the job
pd no, don't really get negative reactions to being a female programmer, though sometimes it is a bit of a conversation stopper. I have heard male programmers say really sexist things though....like "you're quite a good programmer, I thought you'd be rubbish cos you are are a girl...all the other female programmers I have met have been rubbish" ....obviously it then turns out they have met ONE other female programmer who happened to be a bit useless. Also most female programmers I know have only done it for a bit and then got fed up. To be honest I am thinking of trying to move over to more the business side of things rather than pure programming, as I am not really a dedicated geek that you really need to be to succeed long-term in it.

zoejeanne · 24/03/2009 22:46

I?m another one struggling to view the thread and having to read messages all squashed up ? very annoying

Kayz phew about your period, and good luck to your DH for the job on the railway

Babymakes4 I hope the dream feed works tonight ? IMO lack of sleep is the worst possible thing ever, beating even tooth ache

Daisy sorry your DH was such a pain on Mothers Day, I hope your DC?s were more appreciative of you? I too am fascinated by your 2 wombs, I was talking earlier about how amazing our bodies are making and growing and nourishing babies, and your body really is amazing

Bisou I am very impressed with your concert today (good luck), especially as you are listed as highlight no 1, a whole 3 places above Cate Blanchett

Trace I hope you?ve managed to get some rest today and are feeling happier now?

Arti I hope the mastitis clears up before you need to go into hospital. Did you have it before? (hazy memory) that?s just pants if it is the second time you?ve suffered with it, it sounds so awful

Sybil did you survive with the 4 LO?s today? And has your friend had her baby yet? (and talking of 4 children, I wonder how Reban is doing with her brood? I guess she?s very busy).

Katie what a pain about the council tax bill, I hope it wasn?t scary having the bailiffs round, I imagine they could be pretty intimidating people

Major wishing your MIL gets well soon

Thanks for the reassurance about crisp packets (love the analogy ) ? we?ve tried and failed a couple of times, DH and I are both as wussy as each other about it. As he was acting midwife at DD?s birth, holding my leg and being encouraging, he saw me tearing (in his words I was ?tearing continuously, like something out of a horror movie? ) so he?s worried about doing any damage to me. I think the best option would be to indulge in some cheerfulness for dutch courage ? and stop thinking about it and just do it and get it over and done with

And on that note, I?m going to bed now (no, not for that ? DH is still away ? but sleeping will be much more fun anyway ) xx

Babymakes4 · 24/03/2009 22:59

Quick thank you to all who have posted about forgetfulness - whilst reading and agreeing I remembered I had left 4 pints of milk, some wipes, some cheese and two cans of tomatoes in the bottom of the pram today anyway - dream feeding in 10 mins...fingers crossed for more sleep tonight!

JJ very impressed by wine giving-up for lent. Should have done similarly, but in fact gave up crisps and chips (MIL slightly shocked by what it says about the current state of my diet that I consider this a sacrifice!)Only one lapse through exhaustion so far - accidentally ate Smiths Squares crisps for emergency blood sugar boost. Had that slightly nagging feeling that something wasn't right & then remembered lent!

zoejeanne · 24/03/2009 23:02

Oh, and on the subject of smear tests ... last time I took DD for her jabs a lady came out of the nurses room (I assume for a smear) with her DD (about 4 years old). Her DD said loudly in the middle of the waiting room "whats wrong with your bottom Mummy?", "nothing DD, the nurse was looking at my poorly tummy", "well it looked like she was looking at your bottom" , the poor lady, she rushed out of there sooo quickly

lal07 · 25/03/2009 00:02

argh bisou am trying to watch your concert and can't get the player to work - think it might not work on a mac . Will keep on trying. And properly catch up tomorrow. Much cheerfulness here as DH's friend (and DD's godfather) came round for supper. So could be wine induced technical incompetence. Here's hoping not. And good nights one and all in any case.xx

lal07 · 25/03/2009 00:09

the exquisite bisou! I've got it on the sydney opera house website here

Verso · 25/03/2009 05:56

Sorry to bring the thread down but I have been up at

midnight
1am
2am
2:30am
3am
3:15am
4am
4:25am
5:10am

I thought it might be teething but Calpol made no difference. I feel very very very strange and low today. I give up. At least the HV is coming to see me this afternoon.

I tried bringing her into my bed but she just fussed and screamed so she's better off in her cot.

At least I got some sleep from 9pm-midnight but DH is now saying the 10pm feed isn't working.

He is definitely giving up work.

kayzr · 25/03/2009 07:19

Morning,

What on earth is happening to the thread???

Verso I hope your DH is set on giving up this time. Will you go back to work earlier than you planned? I am really hoping you can get some sleep today.

Katie I bet the bailiffs were pretty scary. I think I would kill DH. For my degree there are lots of different courses so I can pick what subjects I want to study. I'm starting with The Arts past and present. I'm really looking forward to the Place and Leisure book as it is all about roman villas and I am really interested in ancient history. It starts in October and I can't wait.

Hope you are all well.

Verso · 25/03/2009 07:25

Weird layout!

btw if anyone is interested my dissertation was entitled "I'll dree my weird - the semantics of idioms". The joy of linguistics . Am swinging wildly from grim stoicism to hysteria this morning after such a rubbish night. Wish I'd heard bisou's performance... I should have had the laptop upstairs! Anyone got any top tips on getting through yet another day of complete exhaustion?

Also not quite convinced DH realises what he's proposing to take on, childcarewise. It was news to him yesterday when I mentioned he'd be taking over weaning from me when I go back to work... . Visions of DD2 still living on milk at 13 years old...

SybilFaulty · 25/03/2009 07:26

Kayz, I sometimes teach on the OU law degree and the students are a fab bunch. The arts stuff sounds much more interesting than the law modules are (unless you are an aspiring lawyer of course). My mum has an OU degree too and said the courses were great.

Verso, I am so sorry to read your psot, esp as you sounded so chipper yesterday. Hope you get some rest today and that your HV is helpful.

Bisou, so sorry to miss you but I was SOOOOO tired and just fell asleep. WIll investigate the Aus version of I player.

Still no baby here but at least 2 of mine are at nursery today so I am down to 2. My friend is having a home birth - hope it's all going well. Today is both my sister's and a good pal's birthday so a most auspicious day to be born.

Oh and I got in touch with LadyT last night and am happy to report she has been off with her mother being pampered and soothed after her op. Back home today - so all is well.

EffiePerine · 25/03/2009 07:38

The layout thing has been reported and MN are looking into it - hope it's fixed soon!

Verso: sorry you had a rubbidh night . Actually being a SAH parent is a lot like teaching, in that you can't switch off and veg if you're having a bad day, you need to be on the ball so they don't trample over you!

Think PD, Ros and I may be meeting in Kew Gardens today if anyone's interested

rosisdreamingofchocolate · 25/03/2009 07:49

Its so hard to read the thread at the minute! Hope Tech gets it sorted quickly!

Have you spotted my new name? Its just for Lent while I'm missing my chocolate fix!

verso sorry you're down again. Will dh stick to his decision this time do you think?

kayz history degree sounds great. I think I said before that I'll probably be a permanent student finding one course or another to do!

veggie speaking of which, how is your studying going? Will you be helping mothers bf soon? Not that you don't already, you've been fantastic here!

arti hope you're feeling better, hugs

bisou I didn't get to see the concert last night, am sure you were fab! I am hoping it will come up on listen again though

Anyway, I'm coming up to Yorkshire in April & was wondering if anyone wanted to meet up? I'll definitely be able to do Thurs 9 & possible the Sat as well. Realise its the Easter weekend but would be nice to meet you!

And Ds2 slept from 7pm to 6.30am . I'm sure its a one off buth there is hope

rosisdreamingofchocolate · 25/03/2009 07:50

effie, I was wondering about Kew today, are you & Poison still up for it?

rosisdreamingofchocolate · 25/03/2009 08:03

Meant to say thanks for the calpol, chamomilla & pulsatilla advice.

Veggie, is it something you can get from Boots? Just wondering whether to look for a powder or something else! I'm rubbish at the complementary therapies though I want to use them more!

pmk1 · 25/03/2009 08:22

Well this MN issue is doing my head in - my laptop is a tiny 10 inch screen, so it's all really squashed on the side and hard to read! Tried to catch up, but again it's hard - Glad to hear LadyT is ok! Was worried esp after the legs etc Lady but sounds like you are doing quite well!
Veggie your funny stories of your DC's comments continue to make me
Kayz glad the non-pg confirmation came through for you!
Bisou sorry I missed your live performance, hope it's on again - we've been going to sleep earlier recently.
Arti sounds horrible, hope it's getting a little better.
Verso seemed so up and now so down again.... Not sure what to say except hoping it gets better soon for you

Well B had slept through for the past couple of months without a murmer, but for the past 3 nights had been waking at 0430, and this morning 0330! Haven't fed him, but put dummy back and went to sleep again although this morning was more difficult to settle and he woke at 0330, 0430 and finally fed him at 0530.
Everyone i've spoken to and everywhere I read (except one website) tells me that sleeping patterns during the day have no impact on sleeping at night - well the only thing we have done differently in the past few days is he IS napping more during the day - one day one of his naps was going on for 3 hours which he never did before at all. We got a new pop up travel cot and he really likes napping in it anyway, his last nap of the day has been about 7-830pm when i've actually had to wake him for a bath and a bottle of EBM. Well I'm going to experiment tonight and not put him down as often, and not as long after his feed at 6pm-ish, and then see what happens when he goes to bed at 9pm. If he doesn't wake - that's it - his daytime sleep will make a difference to him waking early...
Took him to the clinic and he is still slowly gaining but they have said if he has any issues in the next 2 weeks with feeding and getting frustrated with slow flow, I should supplement with a bottle of formula at night and the EBM at some other point in the day.... He is 5.52kg at 15 weeks.....

Babymakes4 · 25/03/2009 08:33

Dream feeding not according to plan. DH very kindly said he would do the rest of the night. SHe woke at 3 (as planned) but for some reason he didn't feed her, or at 4 so he finally fed her at 5 and now she won't take her morning bottle Very cross. He felt she 'wouldn't be hungry 3 hours after feeding at 3am (which is obv actually 4 hours after an 11 am feed but for some reason, despite two years of doing this, he has never got the hang of timing the feeds from start to start) but had no other reason for why she would be AWAKE, and again an hour later! Feel a lot less tired but feel today is going to be a long feeding, sleeping, sicky battle.....

kayzr · 25/03/2009 08:33

It is really bugging me now. Apparently it is only post-natal threads and lone parents.

Verso · 25/03/2009 09:50

I know that effie but he seems to think being at home with a toddler will be easy . Had to point out to him yday that he will be responsible for potty training and weaning and he looked v shocked.

Have literally had NO sleep. feel like sh**

I've been managing on 3hrs/night forweeks now but NO sleep is just not funny.

Have contacted estate agent to get hse valued. If DH wants to give up work, fine, but we will have to move somewhere cheaper - which i guess will bugger up DD1's school too. No xmas presents for anyone this year either

Verso · 25/03/2009 09:51

well... dribs and drabs of sleep between 9pm-midnight in between panicking about money...

traceface · 25/03/2009 10:04

morning all!

Verso sorry you had another bad one.
Arti - how are you feeling today? Really hope you turn a corner soon.
Ros - like the name!
I've been eating chocolate with a cuppa every evening before bed, but last night went one step further and took a bar to bed with me to eat with the night feeds . Yummy though!

Last night there were farmyard noises a plenty - but not from Phoebe - from actual animals! Our back garden backs onto a field of sheep and chickens and for some reason (gusty wind?) they were all baaing (not the chickens!) at full volume in the night, and the rooster decided 3.15 was cook-a-doodle-doo time! And someone's dog decided to join in and barked for about an hour! Quite amusing to listen to really

My memory failed me again this morning when I took Lucy to school. I drove down, parked round the corner as usual, waited with her till she'd gone in, couldn't find my car keys anywhere, so went back to the car in a panic to find them hanging in the lock for all to see! Thankfully no-one had swiped them! I need locking up!

Ros - I'd be up for a meet in Yorkshire somewhere on April 9th - but would just have to check the date with DH. As he's a teacher he'll be off work so I should just check that he's not planning anything.

Absolutely MUST dust and vac today. MUST. MUST. Can't seem to get of my back side.

kayzr · 25/03/2009 10:09

I can do April 9th too Ros.
