happy birthday for tomorrow pepper - my dh is 46 tomorrow - he said today he's closer to 50 than 40 now He will be nearly 65 and getting his bus pass when Joe is grown up ....we have had no snow here at all a few flurries but none has setteld and ds1 is hanging out for snow. i know you're all sick of it but i wish we'd had enough for a snowman to keep him happy. He's had a vomiting bug too (csws' ds gave it to him over the web!!) and was sick all over his bed last night - cue mountains of washing

Wne to see hv yesterday who said i should feed Joe LESS in the night as he has got used to waking ans into bad habits. So i need to feed him less and less each night until he's not waking at all (yeah right!!). IF this doesn't work she said he must be ready for weaning so i am trying to only feed him on one side. Last night he woke at the same times as usual but had only had half the feeds amd he went back to sleep ok after each feed so maybe she's right... will see how he is tonight. Had him weighed and he has not put on much wieght at all in the last 4 weeks, partly due to the chest infection he had but also she said that bf babies wieght gain dramatically slows at 5 months in preparation for weaning. Not sure i understand why but hey ho, he's happy ehough

Myjob - hooray for new clothes and that's a sign that N is growing albeit a bit slower than fatboy Joe. Don't worry about the coil, it hurts a bit and if you take some nurofen before you go, that helps. Are you having a plain one or a copper one (with hormones??) Am going to see nurse practitioner soon to have mine re-fitted but will have copper one as other one made AF very very heavy

also at meet ups in Warwick/down south which is so far away from us. Anyone planning a trip to scotland is welcome to pop in for a cuppa anytime!!

Right bath time....

heather1980 · 05/02/2009 19:31

am so sad, after the happiness of the dummy now
now alex wont feed, he has had 1 feed all day, he just wont feed at all, he screamed for over an hour and wouldn't even entertain the breast, i gave in and gave it to him and he fell straight asleep with exhaustion. it has to go, i'm not giving up bf. i don't know what to do.

jenwa · 05/02/2009 20:06

heather oh no poor you. He must be hungry though? Is he just off his feed, maybe poorly?

pepper happy birthday for tomorrow.

loulou its what i did with DD. She is bottle fed but I just put dummy in and she sleeps through now. It may work? Worth a try if he does go back to sleep and you all get some sleep.

Just put some pics on profile, one of snowman we made today!

loulou - Im definitely not one who should be giving advice, but ds used to feed LOADS at night. I had to teach him to go longer btwn feeds. I put an extra feed in before bath/bed and took him out for dream feed at 10pm every night even if it wasnt really "dream feed". sincw we started that there has only been one night where he needed an extra feed. Now he has feed at 6.30/6.45/7pm (depending on night) then again at 10 (unless he wakes a few min earlier, but best if hes still sleeping) and then not again until 5.30am. I wake at 5.15 so this is good for me, but can see how that might still be early for others. He will usually nap a bit in the morning. If its a weekend and im home he will usually go back down at around 7ish and sleep until 9ish then take his 2 hr mid day nap a bit later (12ish).
It's possible to lessen feeds through night, just tiring - and "dummy" made it all possible

star6 · 06/02/2009 08:52

forgot to say, when he woke, I knew he was metabolically "able" to go longer between feeds at night so I just kept him on his tummy and patted his back/bum a bit, put binkie in (sometimes he'll take it/sometimes not). Sometimes turning him to his back to sleep helped (depending on what he preferred). He fussed, but didn't scream. First time, it took 38 minutes, then less and less each time. Now I'm only up for two minutes or less to settle him if he wakes at night. Sometimes it's just putting my hand on his back or tummy for 30 seconds and he's back to sleep.
At first I felt like I was depriving him of food because I knew he would eat ravenously if I got him out, but now I realize he's fine!
AND he's much much much much much much happier during the day because he's getting more sleep at night. Naps are better, too.

LAST NIGHT - he didn't wake at all between 10.30pm - 5.15am!!!!! YAY! Of course every time he moves his head, I would startle awake in a panic that something was wrong (WHEN will I stop doing this??????) but he was fine!

sorry myjob - i meant jenwa and the coil!!

no luck with the sleep as Joe was up every 2 hours for something to eat so reducing his feeds just makes him wake more often - am knackered today. he won't have a dummy to settle him back off either. have started a thread to see if anyone else knows what to do but i am going back to my old routine for now, of feeding him when he needs and as much as he needs. This used to mean 3 wakes a night for only about 20 mins but that is better than the 6 we had last night!! HV now saying try to wean him but not sure about this.

Myjob - good luck today with hv - let us know how you get on...

heather1980 · 06/02/2009 12:25

just had alex weighed and he was 16lb 8 oz!! at 16 weeks yesterday.
feeding is better today thank god. don't know what was up with him at all yesterday

aubergenie · 06/02/2009 12:40

Happy birthday Pepper. 40 and fabulous, I'm sure!

Good luck at the clinic today Myjob.

I've been to baby massage this morning - really lovely AND it's completely zonked ds out and he's now fast asleep in his pram (a rare event), giving me a chance to mumsnet get some housework done.

star6 · 06/02/2009 12:42

wow heather! I wonder how much Q weighs now. I put him on a bathroom scale the other day and he was nearing 14 lbs. He can still wear the 0-3 clothes at 4 months although he is definitely filling them out nicely and we're moving him over to 3-6's for more stuff each day.
When do babies sit up on their own? I know I've asked this before, but are we close? I can prop Q up, but he just falls to either side like a weeble wobble (or falls back - butalways have someone there to support him!).

Loulou - sorry to hear that! I don't think weaning him is the answer, but I'm not an expert. Can you top up with expressed milk from a bottle for first bedtime feed? Or is that frowned upon? Sometimes I do that and it seems to hold him over longer as well?

heather1980 · 06/02/2009 12:49

about 6-7 months for sitting up iirc. ages away yet.

ronshar · 06/02/2009 14:12

Happy birthday pepper.

I have had two nights of sleep. Yipee. I knew William was hungry and not getting enough from me. We have gone from 2-3hourly feeding at night to a dreamwide awakefeed at 11ish until 6ish. Bloody brilliant.
I feel like a different woman already. Now I just need to lose the eye bags.

DD1 has also caught CSWS bug. She vomited all over her bed and down the wall and it ended up on DD2s bed as in bunch beds. Lovely!!!!
