Honeymoon, one of my NCT friends has just started running again, she got a jogging buggy and goes out with her DS once or twice a week to a running club she belonged to pre-pregnancy. I think she spoke to her GP to discuss postnatal exercise and he recommended she went on a postnatal pilates course, as the teacher is trained in postnatal recovery, so she advised her when it would be safe to run again. Perhaps you could ask HV/GP/local gyms etc if there is anything like that near you?

aubergenie · 07/02/2009 12:41

Great news about N's weight gain myjob. Agree with everyone who said you should write down the key points that you want to cover to give you more confidence when you have your appt.

Ekka - that sounds scary. I hope ds is better soon.

Heather - I can sympathise about the piles. Ouch! I don't think you should have to suffer them for life though. When I went for my check up the doc prescribed me "Anusol HC" which really helps shrink them (Sorry ladies. I hope no one's eating!). If your doc won't prescribe you anything, you can buy "Anusol plus HC" over the counter at the chemist and, I just had a look, the active ingredients are almost the same.

Honeymoonmummy · 07/02/2009 13:32

Thanks CC, good idea but I've been to pilates before and I'm not keen. I am starting a postnatal yoga course though so will see how I get on with that. Plus intend to do Davina again tmrw when DH takes Poppy for a walk. I took Pops for a walk this morning, really stiff now!

Honeymoonmummy · 07/02/2009 13:34

Yeah, I thought the same thing about the piles Aubergenie/ Heather, I hope to god it's not true anyway!!!

TBH the thing I was really dreading was any form of incontinence and I seem to be fine on that front.

heather1980 · 07/02/2009 13:56

the gp has given me a cream for the piles. he gave me one called xyloproct, which is ok, but i got piles after dd and they came back with ds.

Honeymoonmummy · 07/02/2009 14:16

Piles are such a PITA

ronshar · 07/02/2009 16:07

Ok ladies I read the instructions. Thank you for your help piss taking.

CSWS that article really confirms what I had been thinking all alone with William. He always sleeps better when we have had a quiet day at home than if the girls are running around!

We do not have to go to the HV clinics. There is no legal requirement to attend. My HV told me to only go at least 1-2 monthly. Or phone if I have a problem!
You can go to clinic just for weighing etc but leave without speaking to HV.

ronshar · 07/02/2009 16:07

Ouch for those with piles. Not nice.

pepperrabbit · 07/02/2009 17:52

Thank you for all your kind birthday wishes - I'm slowly getting over a mega-sulk about being 40 - it just seems so ridiculous to be that old. Secretly I suspect I'm maybe 32 but in a cruel timewarp.
Anyway, I've only been to the clinic once, when DD was 6 weeks old. She seems fine, she eats and she's slowly getting bigger. No idea what she weighs .
Hope everyone ok this evening.
x

Marthasmama · 07/02/2009 19:10

pepper - maybe you've swapped ages with me. I'm 32 next Sunday but feel much older!

CantSleepWontSleep · 07/02/2009 19:25

The end of a very busy day. Very crap night with ds last night. Have been awake since about 4.15am, and up properly since 5:45.

Dd's party was a success I believe, though the hall was very full! Poor ds got somewhat neglected though. He was tired but only managed a little nap. He didn't even get fed very much, so was prob hungry too. By bedtime tonight (at 6:40!) he was desperately tired, but consequently didn't feed very well, so I expect he'll be up again in a couple of hours.

He had the strangest poo during the party though. It was enormous (pooed again whilst I was changing him), but whereas they are normally very runny, this one was very thick, almost putty like, and he was crying whilst doing it. I don't think I've ever seen baby poo like it tbh, so not sure what it was all about. I presume he was constipated a bit, and wonder if it is related to me feeling dehydrated since I was ill earlier in the week. He's had a more normal poo since thankfully.

loulou33 · 07/02/2009 20:07

hi - csws - joe had 2 poos like that last week when we both had a cold and i guess we would have been dehydrated - looked a bit like clay, wierd. Sorry you had a crap night - hope tonight is better

Honeymoonmummy · 07/02/2009 20:20

God, when did our lives become a discussion about poo???!

I'm glad the party wwent well CSWS.

Saturday night woo hoo! I'll be asleep as soon as Poppy is!

Wow, you lot have been busy chatting. We've had a few busy days. DS was 2 on Thursday and we had a little tea party at home with 3 of his friends. it was lovely and he liked his tractor cake (cue DH and me up until 1.30 the night before being creative!). He was full of cold though and ended up waking up at 5 the next morning so we're absolutely shattered. Sounds good for milk supply myjob. I tend to do the switching thing for the last feed and through the night in the hope that A will sleep a bit longer. She's really unsettled this evening though so not sure what kind of night we're going to have. Not much snow up here but we did manage to make a snowman on Monday. DS seemed quite confused when there was just a carrot and hat left by Wed! Sleep well little ones

star6 · 08/02/2009 07:58

ouch for piles! Anusol PLUS did the trick for me. It has the thing that makes them shrink.... regular anusol was ineffective.

Congrats myjob on all of the milk you're getting into Naomi! Sorry about the lack of sleep, though

I developed Mastitis last night (AGAIN!) My Dad and wife arrived yesterday morning, DS wasnt' feeding as much as usual during the day... we went out for dinner and my left breast was very painful, but just let him feed from it. By the time we got home, I stood up to get out of the car and my whole body felt awful.... I was achy all over, had all over headache, shivered and could not warm up (despite being under blankets in a very warm room!). still a bitshivery and very achy. head pounding and fever slowly going away...
i called nhs direct and then out of hours dr rang me bsck. i have to go in on monday but for now i can take antibiotics leftover from last time i had it (20/10) - yes i KNOW i should havefinished course last time - it just got better and i forgot!
Yuck not nice to feel like this

Honeymoonmummy · 08/02/2009 08:56

Oh dear Star, sorry to hear about mastitis. Are u managing to feed OK? I thought (from parenting classes at hospital) that they gave you strong painkillers when you had mastitis so you could feed through it? Have u got painkillers?
Poppy wouldn't take her first gaviscon this morning so cue vomit-fest . Hopefully she'll take one after this feed.
Paed tomorrow - I'm rather excited about it!!! Do u think he/ she would appreciate a record of her sleeping/ feeding pattern? I've written it all in a notebook since she was born, anyone else sad enough to still be doing this???

aubergenie · 08/02/2009 09:36

We are a delightful bunch aren't we? Piles and poo!

Oh Star, you poor thing. I remember my sister having mastitis and it was awful. She said it was the first time in her life she felt really, truly ill.

I got a Kari-me sling yesterday and I LOVE it!!! My Close carrier is going on Ebay, as ds seems to have outgrown it already. A friend with a 10-month old tried the Kari-me with him on her back and said it was really comfy, so I'm hoping it'll last for a while.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend everybody!

CantSleepWontSleep · 08/02/2009 10:04

I kept a record with dd honeymoon, but am not with ds.

Aubergenie - in what way has ds outgrown his close carrier? They are supposed to last for years! Although my last few wearings have seemed to result in ds' head being in front of my neck or face .

Sorry about mastitis star .

Ds slept for nearly a whole 2 hour stint from 3:50 this morning, during which I couldn't get back to sleep at all, despite being knackered - grrrr.

Dd's b'day today. We're going out for lunch with both sets of grandparents.

OP posts:
aubergenie · 08/02/2009 10:29

CSWS - I know! They're meant to last much longer than this and ds, although chunky, is a pretty average weight. I find that in order to get him in tight enough the rings at the side end up pulled quite far towards the front and I can't pull the straps any tighter in case I catch his feet in them. Because of this, the last few times I've worn it, ds has slipped further and further down and I've had to hold on to him as he doesn't feel secure. I've unthreaded and re-threaded it and I just can't get comfortable for any length of time. He was carried in it every day for the first 3 months and I felt a real sense of loss that I couldn't carry him in it any more. You're not having the same problem then?

CantSleepWontSleep · 08/02/2009 11:35

Oh no, haven't had that problem at all. Have been too afraid to unthread it so far (but really needs a wash now!) just in case I can't get it back together again. Have you tried switching it to the last position where the rings are on the shoulders rather than by the feet?

It's just started snowing again here! Poppy is vomiting quite badly today, hey ho. Feel so bad fo her when she vomits then starts screaming.

Still shivering here... canNOT warm up!! Fever still pretty high. Too scared to take temp. Taking antibiotics and feeling mildly better but even carrying Q around for a minutes is exhausting. I feel like I'm going to vomit when he's feeding. I just want to die. No I don't really... but I want this to end.
