myjob - well done for the 4oz in one week - that's average weight gain in this age group and Joe is managing about that as well....you should be really chuffed with that and ignore the nurse - they want it all, they should be pleased that she has gained so much in one week without telling you, she should be managin more - what are they expecting, a pound a week???

Sorry it seems that i have passed on the vomiting bug via the web to your ds - who will you pass it on to??

Star - Joe wont take a top-up bottle, have tried this, on ce he's a had a bit of food, won't take a bottle at all and refuses all attempts to get more into him. I am tryig to express after each feed to increase supply to see if that helps - do you just express for 10 mins each side (only managed an oz, so feel stupid expressing when no milk there iyswim) no idea if this is the right thing to do???

Better go and entertain Joe, he's playign on his own bless him

CantSleepWontSleep · 06/02/2009 14:54

Because you need to read the instructions properly strike out each word individually.

Don't blame us for any bugs. We don't have any . Dd well and truly has her appetite back .

Happy birthday pepper .

Sitting up from 5 months ish. Dd did at 5 months (I thought it was 4, but a photo that was taken in her early sitting days suggests otherwise!), but she was first of her peer group to do so.

I took dd to baby massage aubergenie. Was nhs course for traumatic births or problematic babies. Instructions said to make sure that baby hadn't fed for an hour beforehand, but also wasn't hungry. Dd used to feed every hour . She would scream a bit, poo which would then sting her dreadful nappy rash, and then scream and cry uncontrollably, so we would have to stop. (This was pre-discovery of her milk intolerance). Would be lovely to remember some of it and try with ds when (if!) we get a moment to ourselves. Must ask the friend that I made through the group.

lol at Naomi feeding through the night after your comment yesterday. Looking forward to hearing how she got on at clinic.

Well all the daytime feeding might have helped us yesterday, as ds managed to sleep from 7:15-1 ish, the longest he's done in ages. He was quite exhausted when he went to bed mind, and his cold seems to be improving too.

Well done Q for the long sleep.

loulou - will check out your thread shortly, but I would say that feeding a baby when it wants can't really be such a bad thing can it? They are all still so little in the grand scheme of things . Do empathise about how often Joe wants to feed though.

Phew - this has taken ages to type one handed!

Ah, x posted. 4oz is great. I think that you should write a letter (because it will stop you getting tongue tied in the moment) asking why your hvs are trying to undermine rather than support your breastfeeding. They need to understand the potential consequences of their attitude/ignorance.

Do remember though that whilst they can advise and suggest things, they can't make you do anything, and the decision and responsibility is yours as the parent. Carrying on going for a year sounds like a fine ambition to me .

That's BRILLIANT news MyJob, I'm so chuffed for you! I think CSWS's idea is a good one in that you should write a list of points you want to clarify for your HV visit. I always make a list for such events such is the state of my baby brain! Don't wish away the early days though, that would be such a shame, and if it turns out you have to start ff, then you've already given Naomi 3-4 months of a great headstart in life and don't beat yourself up if it means you will stop worrying so much and start enjoying her more x

Ha ha re instructions CSWS!!

CSWS/ Star// anyone else I've forgotten about - well done on the sleep front!

I've got Pops a paed for Monday under my work Bupa cover, it only covers up to £500 a year, I wonder how long that will last? NHS doctor first appt was in 4 weeks!!!

The reflux seems to be getting a bit worse. Did CSWS someone on this thread say it peaks at a certain age or did I read it elsewhere?

Oh and I've managed to get Poppy to "self-soothe" to sleep for 2 nights on the run now, if self-soothing includes having the hairdryer and a winnie the pooh lullaby toy on at the same time...

Honeymoonmummy · 06/02/2009 20:27

Oh and happy birthday Pepper and good luck with the party CSWS!

loulou33 · 06/02/2009 20:56

honeymoon - it was me and csws, refluz peaks at 4 months and gradually gets better by 6 montsh as muscle improves. ask your paed about domperidone to reduce sickness levels as it really can help get them through to 6 months - joe is much better than ds1 was and i put it down to that.

myjob - you know Joe is a porker and he puts on 4oz a week roughly so N is doing just fine. you're right, you can't make up for the weight she didn't gain but that could be applied to all babies you don't stay at the same centile all the way through childhood - that will be most children then. Joe has fluctuated through 2 centile bands and back again and i think this is normal for bf baby, no all babies regardless of how they feed.

csws - i think i have been confused by hv saying reduce the feeding in the night as its just a habit. i think by doing so i have buggered up my supply and made him hungrier iyswim - bloody hv!!!

Ekka · 06/02/2009 21:00

Happy birthday Pepper! Congrats on the sleep everyone (can't remember who, I'm a bit frazzled tonight)

Myjob - congrats on the 4oz. It will be much easier if your HV visits you at home so you get undivided attention rather than lots of distractions like at the clinic.

Sorry to hear about all the sickness - please don't send it this way, I've had enough of illness. Ds has had a constant cold since he was born, but this am he was working hard with his breathing & off his food so after shouting asking politely at the doctors we got to see our doctor and were immediately sent to A&E. Spent the entire day there being monitored. Luckily we've no more medicines for him, its just a 'wait & see' situation, so hopefully he will pick up soon, I'm knackered. Going to bed now, can't keep my eyes open. I'll read the posts again tomorrow to try and catch up with all that I've missed.

btw went on kellymom site and it say average weight gain for 4-5 month old is 4-5oz - tell your hv that one myjob! But i tried the centile charts and they put Joe on 19th centile but his own chart put him on 75th?? I think the charts may be wrong on the site - can't remember who was worried about kellymom charts but i can't see how that is right. Also put his length at 96th centile but on 50th on his chart - weird!!

CantSleepWontSleep · 06/02/2009 21:40

I think that all the breastfeeding mums should have a read of this as they approach 4 months. It was just linked on another thread and think it will be good to bear in mind.

OP posts:
Honeymoonmummy · 06/02/2009 21:40

Thanks Loulou, I subsequently did a search and found another post by you saying the same thing re 4 months!

I found the Kellymom charts a bit weird too, might just be me being stoopid tho!

God that sounds like a nightmare Ekka, I hope things improve for you and DS, it just makes me realise how lucky I am with Poppy just having to deal with a relatively mild case of reflux.

Poppy has already started to lift her head off the pillow after bfing, trying to sit herself up, and she comes up easily when you hold her hands and pull her up to sitting so i think she'll be an early sitter. Hope so anyway as that should improve the reflux!

I've got to stop putting my hopes on this visit to the paedriatrician, I have it in my mind that I'm gonna get a miracle cure but I know that's HIGHLY unlikely! Just hate seeing her in discomfort and screaming

Honeymoonmummy · 06/02/2009 21:43

Oh, I know what I meant to ask about! Since the birth I have been really achey, I put it down to the anaemia but my iron levels are pretty much back to normal, I then thought it was lack of exercise/ sitting down feeding so much, but I'm just wondering if it's anything to do with my pregnancy SPD or a result of the traumatic birth...does anyone else have aches and pains which didn't exist pre-pregnancy??

jenwa · 06/02/2009 21:59

myjob poor you with that stress from HV.
I think you do what you need to and id N is gaining weight that surely that is fine . My friends DD was 3 weeks early and till only takes between 3-5oz and no more. She is fine though and very settled. Phoebe take 7oz most of the time and according to the pack of formula she should not need this much til another few weeks. She is 13lb7oz.
Every baby is different and I think you know your child and what you want to do. Dont get pressured into doing anything you dont want to. If Naomi happy then thats all that matters.

loulou thanks for info re coil. Have not decided what to have as dont know much about it. Was going to go today to clinic but never did so prob go in afew weeks time.

Cant get rid of tickly cough and dry throat. Just had a baily's and ice which was sooooooooooooo soothing. Not had one for over a year! Not sure its best medicine but it was very enjoyable

heather1980 · 06/02/2009 22:06

no pains, but i still have piles and an anal fissure that bleeds when i poo (tmi alert!!)
the dr said that it will heal in time but the piles are mine for life

arggg what a day, dd has music on a friday so i loaded the kids in the car and the battery was dead. forked out £4.50 each way in a taxi coz she knew where we were going and was getting upset that the car was broken.
when we got home got greenflag to jumpm start it so i could get to the shop to buy a new one. luckily i called my stepdad and he came with me to i wasn't ripped off. and bless him he paid for it!

but the best thing was dh bought me an eternity ring for my birthday in jan but it was too big and they had to alter it and it came in today!! yeah it's beautiful... i love my dh!

CantSleepWontSleep · 06/02/2009 22:19

Are they the same type of pains as your SPD Honeymoon? I'm not too bad this time, but after dd, my groin continued to ache for many many months. That's why I bought my long pillow, which I still sleep with between my legs. Afraid that bf'ing can prolong these type of pains (almost the only downside to bf that I've ever come across).

CherryChoc · 06/02/2009 22:20

CSWS, thanks for that link - that sounds exactly like Ryan at the moment, I hope it doesn't go on for another 2-3 months though! He has just started wanting to feed several times a night - myjob, I will be thinking of you at 4am! Also remember there is no obligation for you to contact the HV, go to the clinic or follow their advice - it is just that, advice! I have been told on at least 2 threads on here to stop going to clinic (My HVs are all rubbish) and it has taken a lot of people and anecdotes etc for me to realise I can just stop going and it is okay to do that - don't know what made me think this but I was worried they might report me to social services or something, I just realised that was ridiculous and SS wouldn't separate a happy, healthy baby from its mother anyway. I'm going to get myself some scales and only see the HV if there is anything I am worried about from now on.

Honeymoon no aches & pains here, but I had a very straightforward pregnancy & birth. I have got a weird sensation in my back though in just one area that feels exactly like a TENS machine pad, it's weird.

Happy birthday pepper

Honeymoonmummy · 06/02/2009 22:33

Oh really CSWS? That's interesting to know. Might pop to the doctor, altho don't fancy my chances as their reaction to SPD was to poke me until my pelvis really ached and then say "there's not really any way to tell if it's SPD"

It is kind of the same, and I can't believe I haven't realised before now, I never really had bad pelvic pains until the very end but I had the feeling all the time that I'd run 5k, you know when your legs are achey? I had a long pillow when I was pregnant which was a godsend, I put it away when I was co-sleeping, I will root it out again, thankss.

Oh and you're not alone with the poo-related problems Heather I'm still constipated 3 months after the birth (as I was throughout the whole pregnancy), what's that all about???

Honeymoonmummy · 06/02/2009 22:35

Could it be because Poppy is taking a lot of fluid from me while feeding? I try to drink as much water as poss.

loulou33 · 07/02/2009 10:15

thanks for the link csws - its really reassuring but also sad that i listened to all those people who said its a habit etc, feel a bit bad for listening to them but ma now feeding him as he wishes so hopefully it will right itself soon. hope you got a better nights sleep

I did the Davina DVD once...

No, seriously, I have started walking every day but not so much in the past week due to the snow and our colds. Major respect that you're running Pistachio! Is that on a running machine or outdoors and if outdoors how do u manage that???! I miss running

Honeymoonmummy · 07/02/2009 12:19
