Hi - welcome to the new thread!

OP posts:

Hopefully do you use a fleece liner? That might help.

Marshmallows!? I didn't know you could make them

Well still up every hour or two feeding, although she's not feeding as much each time. I just feel too tired to try and settle her any other way.

I'm starting to start counting down until weaning (5 or 6 weeks I think) and getting quite excited. Everything is straight in M's mouth now.

I saw Hugh F-W make marshmallows. They made me shiver, but then I have ishoos with the texture of marshmallows

I have a Kenwood Chef too and I love it. I found it a bit intimidating at first, but it's great.

I'm getting stupidly excited about weaning too.

DebiTheScot · 11/02/2009 15:48

hopefully you have to bring some marshmallows on Tuesday, I love marshmallows!

Hopefully · 11/02/2009 19:12

Debi I will do my duty and bring marshmallows! Any flavour preferences? I made vanilla ones last night (flavour you normally get in the shop), and planning on making peppermint ones soon, with melted choc drizzled on top. Might try some with orange flower water too? Can imagine that being nice.

I just made dumpling mix in the Chef. It's really easy to make by hand, but I just wanted to use it again .
ILTMIMI I am slightly intimidated by all the attachments available, but I still want to buy them! LOL at your marshmallow fear.

Thanks for the suggestions - I use a bamboo liner in the nappy at the moment. Will look on that thread for more info on fleece liners/lined nappies. I want some of the pretty nappies Sunflower and Lollipop were covertly dealing under the table yesterday, but don't need them in any way!

CarrieBo · 11/02/2009 20:32

I feel ill
Had a sore throat thing going on for a few days, now sinuses filled with thick green snot (tmi ) giving me killer headache, and so much fluid swimming around that my sense of balance is suffering and I keep bumping into things. I've had one of my best friends from school days visiting for three days with her baby girl, and they've just gone and I've suddenly realised quite how ill I feel. We've had a lovely time though, including taking the kids to lunch at starbucks today!
So sympathies to the other poorly ladies.
Good news is that ds is loving baby rice and apple. And in project potty, dd did her first poo on the potty today. She looked a bit nervous as though she needed to gauge my reaction as to whether she'd just been naughty or not, but I think the manic clapping, jumping up and down and phoning daddy at work hammered home the message that what she'd done was very very good!
I'm going down to stay with my parents in Croydon in May, can you organise another 'southern' meetup for that week?!

Hopefully · 11/02/2009 20:36

CarrieBo about half my family seem to live in Croydon (no idea why they all migrate there ), so I'll come and see you even if the others are busy!

Debs75 · 11/02/2009 20:36

Thanks for the sympathy ladies. Whenever I swallow my throat just sticks together so now am coughing a lot as well. DP is starting to get better so is looking after me.

Hopefully I use fleece liners and even when the nappy is really full her bottom is still feeling nice. I would like something for overnight as still in pampers tho.

CarrieBo · 11/02/2009 20:48

debs someone on here recommended the ella's house bumhugger for overnight and we love it. Being hemp it takes ages to dry though, but its a lovely nappy and does the night. We use fleece liners too.
Hopefully are you in the fb group, or can you CAT me? My mum doesn't like me going into Croydon (they live a bit further south in a nice leafy bit!) and used to cut articles out of the Croydon Advertiser about all the stabbings to try and dissuade me from going there!

CarrieBo · 11/02/2009 20:51

only 40 posts left on this thread ladies...

Hopefully · 11/02/2009 20:57

CarrieBo I'm on the FB group - Jo D. My mum was brought up in Croydon after they moved back from Forrin Parts and refuses to believe it is dangerous and nasty now - she still thinks it's a lovely leafy suburb!

SunflowerNeedsSunshine · 11/02/2009 21:36

carrieBo not far from Croydon either (though still pretty leafy around here, well the posh part at least ) but I only venture as far as Ikea, still can;t find my way round the centre by myself... the new shopping centre is great though, if you have money to spend that is!

hopefully & debs we use bumhuggers with wool or fleece wrap or hiphip baby RealEasy with great success, lollipop is using weenotions night notions which sounds really good, though haven't tried them as I have to stop spending and we're fine for night with what we have.

digitalgirl · 11/02/2009 21:49

Haven't posted for so long this fell off my 'Threads I'm on' list. Been lurking though.

So, since Saturday A has had a play with Sweet Potato, Microwaved Apple, Pear, Red Pepper and Brocolli (again). None of which he has swallowed. So it's still very much a 'discovery' phase. Apart from when he has brocolli I find that he gets bored really quickly in the bumbo and he ends up on my lap playing with the food directly on the table.

Have started reading Gill Rapley's book and I think I need to start offering two or three foods with each meal. This will be a lot easier once he actually hits 26 weeks (17 days away) as I'm a bit scared about giving him things like toast and meat till then.

Regardless of all this new excitment A has started waking more in the night. He screams his head off at 2am and will not be resettled easily (feeding, changing, rocking, shushing). And then again at 5am till I give in and feed him around 6 then he's ready to start the day. Aaaaargh! Why?? He doesn't even seem more hungry, just windier and more grumpy.

Hopefully · 12/02/2009 10:16

Gosh, what a quiet bunch we are at the moment! Are you all off making purees/steaming brocolli in anticipation of the food explosion?

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 12/02/2009 10:48

No, we are all propping up our eyelids with matchsticks!

I'm reading the Gill Rapley book too at the mo. It's v interesting and thought provoking.

So then Hopefully, what attachments do you have for your Kenwood?

SunflowerNeedsSunshine · 12/02/2009 10:55

no, just trying to warm up with a cup of coffee before DD wakes up.... as she's reverting to being very nocturnal... actually, I've finished the coffee, but need another cup

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 12/02/2009 11:01

shall I pass the sugar Sunshine?!

Were's Pacita? Did she go and stay with family?

SunflowerNeedsSunshine · 12/02/2009 11:09

ooooohhhhhh, shouldn't really.... go on then, just one... it'll have to wait, though, she's waken up starving , getting upset as she couldn't move my jumper...

Hopefully · 12/02/2009 12:32

ILTMIMI I only have a blender to go with it, but I sooooo want:

  • a juicer
  • the multi mill/spice mill thing
  • the seive attachment

Actually, wonder if they ever come up on ebay? Contemplating selling some (unused) nappies, so have been perusing ebay rather more of late!

Sunflower that video of M on your facebook page was hilarious!

T randomly decided he needed 2 feeds last night, having slept through from 10:30 feed for the previous 4 nights . Don't feel too awful though.

SunflowerNeedsSunshine · 12/02/2009 12:55

you're making me want to use my blender thing but have no time....

hopefully you can also sell used ones on here or other sites/forums. oh, and these and these are the ones you saw on Tuesday
on that video, she'd been fighting with the door locker for a while, so I had to film her!

DebiTheScot · 12/02/2009 14:04

mmm hopefully I like the sound of vanilla and orange sounds nice too but not sure about peppermint.

Poor ds1 has a horrible cough at the moment and hasn't been sleeping very well. The cough medicine does nothing at all but I don't think theres anything else we can do for him. Then ds2 decided that 4.30am was playtime this morning so now I'm shattered.

Hopefully · 12/02/2009 14:49

Oh god, I have been looking at nappy sites. Sunflower and lollipop you are both very bad influences! Next time keep your nappy dealing where I can't see it!

Hopefully · 12/02/2009 14:52

And I'm trapped at the computer as T is asleep on my lap - he's had his jabs today and hadn't slept for 4 hours after the jabs, so now I'm too scared to move him! I'm going to end up ordering nappies at this rate...

Jenbot · 12/02/2009 15:14

I think I'm cursed. My blender broke, my wii broke last month, the shower broke, and the new window has obviously been put in wrong because the walls round it are all mouldy all of a sudden - everything is going wrong here!

Baby is fine though!

SunflowerNeedsSunshine · 12/02/2009 16:38

go on, hopefully, you know you want to try them

jenbot it's always the way, everything breaks at the same time, isn't it. in the last 2 wks, the Microwave just died suddenly, the drier stopped heating up twice (though at least DP has managed to fix it) and yesterday DP's car broke down and, though he's quite good with cars, he hasn;t managed to fix it (though I'm suspecting it's just that he loves my old micra ). Hope you can get something fixed!

Kagey · 12/02/2009 17:02

Jenbot there must be something in the air with appliances - the dishwasher gave up this morning so I grumpily took out the dirty dishes and washed them up, whilst scowling at the offending dishwasher.

Ladies I have been thinking of equipment for weaning - I was going to get a steamer and a hand blender, but anything else?? I have talked myself out of a food processor. Any suggestions greatly appreciated! Ta!
