Hi - welcome to the new thread!

OP posts:

Starlight and others - it's nearly time for a new name!

Think we finally might be getting M's room ready in the next couple of weeks - well at least it's clear now.

Saw a great BLW video at a postnatal group. The whole group felt inspired to do it.

what about

September 08: we're WAY too tired to think of an amusing title

plusonemore · 08/02/2009 07:59

wonder if this is the video you saw ninja? (have had to listen to it without sound at the moment as DS1 is watching cbeebies!)

Ponymum · 08/02/2009 13:01

We had a terrible night last night. Not sure what's up with DD but I suspect it's a combination of teething and the 4-5 month growth spurt. Strange thing though - she was fascinated by DH all day and night yesterday, to the extent that she would cry when she couldn't see him, and instead of latching on to feed she was swivelling her head away to try to see where DH had gone.. and then screaming because she was still hungry. I suspect DH is secretly pleased that he is the favourite parent now, though it really does make feeding difficult!

Question: a while ago someone mentioned a protective cream suitable for LO's face. Can someone remind me what it is please? We took DD out for a longish walk yesterday and I was a bit worried about her face in the cold. Sure enough today she has dry scaly patches on her cheeks and eyebrow area. What cream is suitable to protect her skin from the elements?

CarrieBo · 08/02/2009 14:33

pony it was possibly me with the avent magic cream. It claims to be good for putting on before going out in the cold, contains ello vera and camomile and other such goodies I think.
I'm going to be brave and risk a flaming and tell you all that I've started ds on babyrice! He was clearly absolutely starving, so I gave him a whole teaspoon of babyrice (generosity is not dead my friends) and it had the effect of him sleeping longer at lunch (2 1/2 hrs instead of 1 1/2 hours) which meant he only had a catnap late afternoon, instead of another hour's sleep, so was much more tired when he went to bed and slept through. Bliss. And when I went to 'wake' him at 7:30 this morning he was just lying in his cot chattering to his mobile. Aaaaaaaaah. Now maybe its co-incidence, maybe the 4-5m growth spurt has come to end...or maybe having a little something extra was what he needed. While dh and a friend did a load of DIY yesterday I pureed a ton of fruit and veg so I've got a freezer full of multi-coloured pots. I'm going to keep to one 'meal' a day for as long as possible and see how we go. Thankfully we had none of the histrionics and gagging that dd gave us, just a happy little boy slurping off a spoon! Will do some BLW too once he's happy to sit in his bumbo with the tray on.

ninja · 08/02/2009 15:31

plusonemore that was the one, but there was a lot more of it!

Ponymum · 08/02/2009 16:35

Thanks carriebo. That's gone on to my shopping list (along with a *&%@ teething ring and some more Calpol!). And you are not alone in the baby rice thing. One of my NCT friends has been doing it for a couple of weeks now. Horses for courses I'm sure.

Ponymum · 08/02/2009 16:37

carrie I have a great image in my head of your DS chattering away into his mobile phone.

Hopefully · 08/02/2009 17:33

Sooooo..... I suppose T technically slept through last night from his 10:30 feed (so 11:30-7am). However, he actually needed resettling (grizzling, arms flapping, but settles back to sleep if his arms are tucked in and he's shhhhed) 4 times!
Hoping that if he decides to repeat the feat of not needing a feed he'll also manage to actually stay asleep.

Carriebo hope the amazing sleeping baby continues!

DH lol at your DP/MIL's reaction to the amazing weaning milestone!

Kagey · 08/02/2009 17:49

Ponymum I sympathise totally. E has been unwell for a couple of days (sniffly cold with runny nose), teething and the afters of the meningitis jab

She slept marginally better last night though so things may be improving. After sleep-filled nights for the past 13 weeks, it's been a bit of a shock getting up every half-hour to hour for resettling.

Hope you had a lovely weekend!

CarrieBo · 08/02/2009 19:26

Tee hee about ds talking into his mobile. I do have a couple of photos from christmas actually of dd playing with my phone and showing it to ds and it looks like she's saying 'this is how you send a text' and 'this is how to wave it in the air to get better reception'. Very cute.
I thought my babyrice admission would bring a few others out of the closet

Meglet · 08/02/2009 19:56

Right, I have decided to ban myself from MN and FB for the next 7 days, I have so much to do in RL and cannot just spend 5 mins on here, I end up typing & chuckling away all evening.

I need to to get my house tidy, do boring stuff like life insurance, car tax and make a batch of purees up for DD, i'll start her on them next week - I think she's 23 weeks then, but to be honest I've lost count . We'll do a bit of BLW too, it worked really well for DS, he'll eat anything.

back next week, have a good week everyone. x

notcitrus · 08/02/2009 20:40

thank you so much to someone here who suggested getting A wet and splashing a bit before putting him in the bath - he didn't mind it 2 days ago and tonight had a whale of a time giggling, splashing and kicking the end of the plastic bath!

we survived meeting SIL3, BIL3 and their pfb today, all charming and no huge arguments although i did have to change the subject when they claimed the nhs 'can't be arsed' to induce at 40 weeks so '1 in 10 babies die'!!! currently minding SIL2baby who sleeps well - although i'm not sure i count waking and screaming for 20 mins twice and needing nappy changes as 'sleeping through' - hopig he doesn't wake as not sure i can ignore a screamer that long; when A wakes he's always hungry which makes it easy, up and feed and both asleep 15 min later!

now to feed A and put in bed... he's only waking twice a night which i think is liveable as he's now feeding for twice as long. no interest in food whatsoever though.

Jenbot · 08/02/2009 21:03

Hello all. I'm actually pleased to hear some of you are feeding the babies now - I gave C a little bt of mushed up banana and a bit of mushed up pear last week when I was eating them and she seemed very happy! I had sort of decided to wait until she was 7 months old, 5 corrected, but then I just couldn't help myself.

starlight (Oh, might see you tomorrow actually!) I missed the BF thing last week because I was being a foolish snow-wuss. The weather report said North of London was going to get more snow and the skies looked that bright sort of grey, I was going to walk and bus it. So I stayed in in case there was another blizzard and then there was no bloody snow and I should have gone. Bah.

Jenbot · 08/02/2009 21:11

Debs75 I'm still feeding to sleep too. I sort of envisage changing the night routine when she's a bit older from bath story feed sleep to bath feed story sleep, in a magical problem free way that she won't resist in the slightest.
Um.

lollipopmother · 08/02/2009 21:47

Can anyone make a guess about when it'll be that we no longer talk about how many times we've been awake in the night?! Will we be finished in time for London 2012 do you think?!

I suppose at least we'll all be able to start talking about weaning in a bit. DD has a month and a week to go until she's 6 months and I'm going to do BLW, feel no pull to start early, just can't see the point in bringing more mess into the place, it's already a complete shit-tip

I have no money. I am skint. I hate being skint. I used to earn a wage that allowed me to get anything I wanted (within reason obviously) but I could go shopping without feeling guilty etc, now I'm on £500 mat. pay and £231 of that goes on loan, and most of the rest on rent (although DP is paying half of mine too). I still haven't quite got my head around having none of my 'own' money, I suppose it'll come in the end though.

Hopefully · 08/02/2009 22:10

Lollipop I feel much the same about skintness - it annoys me I have to budget for the train on Tuesday, rather than just being able to hop on and not think about it!

I wonder what percentage of our posts are about sleep? 60%? 80%? Mine - 99.99%

The only way I could be tempted to wean right now is if someone promised me it would sort T's gut out - my plan for weaning is to give him a lot of fruit.

splishsplosh · 08/02/2009 22:38

Lollipop - was it you asking about bath seats? With dd1 I liked a towelling support on a frame - inexpensive, non plastic and seemed comfy - like lying in the bath, but just slightly at an angle so head out. Think it came from mothercare and was around £5 - i think Imight have seen them in Tesco too. So far haven't actually bathed dd2 that much . She was happies when i got in too, but I like my baths really hot so I'm not that keen.

House is back in chaos as we're having lots of plastering done, meant keeping out of the house last week despite the weather- sometimes there were only 2 adults at baby/toddler groups!

C has a cold again- i think she's only had a handful of cold-free days since she was 2 weeks old. This time she has a sealion type cough and major runny nose.

Plus1 thanks for the link about reflux. I'mnot sure - she definitely vomits more than 3x. More like 20 times a day, and quite a bit. But on the other hand she doesn't seem too upset. I just don't think I can go dairy free. i did it for a month once on some detox kick, I felt fab, but it's so boring. And at the moment I crave buttered toast all the time. And hot chocolate. And cheese on pasta. Frappaccinos.... if she was crying and distressed and failing to thrive I guess i hope I'd give it a go, but she's still gaianing weight, even if not at rate graph says she should. Do find that at night, if I sit upright with her for half an hour of so with her on my chest she sleeps better for longer.

eandz · 09/02/2009 00:04

hi guys. had to start a new thread. noahs symptoms are worsening but after calling nhs direct they've told me to wait till tomorrow before going to the a&e. i'll probably be lurking around all night until i decide we've suffered enough and just go.

plusonemore · 09/02/2009 08:04

eandz just read your other thread, hope youre getting some good treatment at last, poor little poppet

DebiTheScot · 09/02/2009 14:30

digi that video is great. I gave ds2 a cooked carrot stick, a raw one and 2 halves of strawberry yest. Well, I put them on his bumbo tray and he was trying to eat them but wasn't quite getting the hang of keeping a hold of them. He did swallow some of the strawberry- I only know that as I found the seeds and a couple of lumps in his nappy earlier. I think giving him stuff now gives him some practice of holding food so that when he really is hungry he'll have the hang of it. Also it allows us to eat our dinner with 2 hands as he's often grouchy then (we eat tea then he gets his straight after and I think he knows this and thinks its very unfair)

DebiTheScot · 09/02/2009 15:35

ponymum I put vaseline on ds2's cheeks either before or after we go out when its really cold. It seems to stop them drying out.

TheThinker · 09/02/2009 16:34

Eandz hope you've had some joy with the doctors today, let us know when you get a chance.

SunflowerNeedsSunshine · 09/02/2009 16:58

eandz hope you get s.thing sorted today

Hopefully · 09/02/2009 17:02

Ha, a friend registered earlier on my computer to ask a question (which she never actually asked I don't think - she found a similar thread) - that random name 2 posts back is me!
