Hi - welcome to the new thread!

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Thankyou for the reassurance everyone. I really was feeling a bit shit earlier. Nice to know other people have been that desperate at times. T eventually slept for about 20 minutes in the pram, and was of course then hungry again.

I fed him and took him out for a walk, and he didn't not off for ages, but eventually slept and stayed unconscious for about 90 minutes. I tried to do some retail therapy to make myself feel better, and ended up buying a pack of vests for T from M&S . Think my shopping skills need some work.
In other news, when I took him out I put him in a borrowed wrap sling - it was really really comfortable! And much easier to put on than I expected. I don't particularly want to use a sling all the time, but it's nice to have one that is really comfortable for when I want to go places where the pram isn't convenient. I was walking for about 2 hours, and barely felt like I'd had him on.

Hi Imoscarsmum that sounds hard. starlight's advice sounds good. Do you bath her in the big bath? if not it might be worth doing that, anmd maybe taking her in the shower as well to get even more used to the water. also maybe you could both take her swimming at the weekend to gett more used to it.

hopefully trust me wwe've ALL been there, there's not muxch can do when thry're sooo tired.

starlight you're getting those comments too

Yes ninja but I just ignore my DH. I know he'll be the first to tell me to feed her if she cries for more than a minute in the night (tis proven) and wakes him up.

He is generally supportive, but he goes to work with MEN, and I go to work with MN

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 06/02/2009 18:23

imoscarsmum - maybe the pool is too cold?

hopefully - we have all been there, and if someone says they haven't, then I would say they are telling lies!

plusonemore · 06/02/2009 20:26

"He is generally supportive, but he goes to work with MEN, and I go to work with MN"

Haha star that should be the quote of the week

Hopefully · 06/02/2009 20:36

Eek, he is now refusing to go down in the cot with DP trying! He has turned into the amazing non-sleeping baby...
Wondering if he's a bit off colour - he's not been feeding a great deal either the last couple of days. Why do babies always have to get ill when it's the weekend?

lollipopmother · 06/02/2009 21:56

Oh I am so in the regression to newborn hell phase, she's been like it for AGES and has been known to get me up three times a night for feeds . I was having such success with putting her in her cot awake and reading to her until she fell asleep but there's no chance at all of that now, she's in a tizz instantly, so I'm cuddling her to sleep again. Mind you, she did just do it perfectly tonight for some reason, but I shan't be getting my hopes up. Ohhh how I wish for the time when she went to bed at 9pm and didn't wake for a feed til 6am and then went back to sleep for another two hours !

I'm still wondering what to do for bathtime, I need a seat or something but everything seems so plastic and bulky and vulgar.

Debs75 · 06/02/2009 22:53

Robyn has got an eye infection She has had a blocked tear duct since birth and over the last few days it has got steadily worse so she is on antibiotics. On the plus side when she woke yesterday she couldn't open one eye and was winking at us like a pirate [bad mummy emoticon]

Debs75 · 06/02/2009 23:23

Hopefully don't tear yourself up about letting him cry DD1 would not go to sleep when overtired unless she screamed for 2-3 mins first so we got in the habit of letting her -whispers cio---. DS was a dream and would just drop off after a bit of grizzling. By a year he was sleeping about 14 hours a day with naps, he would even miss meals if we weren't quick enough. Sadly Robyn is taking after her big sis

becaroo · 07/02/2009 09:12

So I'm not the only one whose happy contented little baby has "turned" then?

Have had a REALLY tough week with Toby this week - add to that the weather, Toms school closure and me having this throat virus thing, its been awful

Toby has also stopped going down in his cot for naps without being rocked to sleep first...so upsetting as he was doing so well and I was getting all smug about how easy he was!!!!

Have started weaning this week, as he was getting so upset/chewing on fists after a full bottle. Its going ok....he had nearly a full jar of apple puree on thurs!!! Doesnt seem to have helped him be any happier at nap time, though....I have a theory about it...he has just started rolling over and wriggling about and being able to grab his mobile and play gym toys after months of them being tantalisingly out of reach...maybe thats why he is no longer happy just being put own on his back????

becaroo · 07/02/2009 09:13

hopefully

I have done that about 3 times with Toby this week.....we all do. Saves your sanity.

Hopefully · 07/02/2009 12:19

Well, he slept relatively well last night, when he went down after his 10:30 feed, was pain before it though. He went through till 4:15, had a feed and went down again, and only needed resettling twice (at 6 and 6:15) to get through till 7am.

DP is currently upstairs trying to settle him for lunchtime nap - the one that broke me yesterday! Let's see if he has any more joy than me.

Want to take T out in his lovely sling again this afternoon - he really enjoyed peering out at the world yesterday before he nodded off - it's a good way for him to see about while he's still a bit small for his pram (seems to get tired and grizzly holding his head up, and if I recline it he can't see anything).

CarrieBo · 07/02/2009 14:06

lolli we just put an inch of water in the bath and lie ds down. We gave our plastic bath support away!
imoscarsmum so sorry you've having a bad time with swimming. I only have two thoughts and they're probably no good, but the first is that you get a thick neoprene wetsuit for C, and the second is that you do the 'command' at bathtime and pour water over her head, so that there's a familiarity when you go to the lessons. We still do this with our nearly 2 year old when washing her hair! Hope the new class time helps.
for hopefully. I'm all for 10 mins of vacuuming when it gets too much - the noise blocks out the baby and your house is cleaner! Thankfully ds has found his thumb which dd never did so life is a lot more peaceful with this bubba!
Question about the growth spurt: Will ds actually GROW???!!!! If he's in a disposable nappy he's still in 0-3m trousers and dungarees!!
I found the reverting to newborn fascinating as it exactly mirrored the process of him learning to sleep through, but in reverse. At 6 weeks old he used to wake at 2 and 5, then just at 4, which got later and later until he slept through til 7. Then at 18 weeks he woke at 6, then 5:30 for two nights, then 4:30, then 2:30 and 6.

plusonemore · 07/02/2009 15:41

hey all my obaby megan highchair arrived today and i love it!!! Made it up for ds2, he loved it but is too flopsy at the moment (obviously, at 18 wks) so have adjusted it temporarily for ds1 (almost 3yrs) and it is fantastic! much better than a booster or kneeling up on a chair which he has been doing. Can thoroughly reccommend getting it or babydan/tripp trapp, such good value for money.

Whilst all of you with slightly older babes are having your nights disrupted again, alfie is getting better and better, 7.15-5.45am last night. Its making me nervous...like a ticking bomb...how long before it ends???!! Sympathies to you all

lollipopmother · 07/02/2009 17:06

Imo - Honestly, what you are describing about your swimming is so normal, all of the babies in my class have been through it. DD has only just started to not cry at sessions although she always screams the place down when getting changed. I would second what Carribo said, get a long sleeved Splashabout wetsuit. I actually use two, I put a long sleeved one on and also the 0-6m wrap that they do, she is positively toasty wearing all that garb, but I saw a very obvious difference when I started doing it. I set of extra-early to get there as I walk, and I really go around the houses so that DD sleeps for a good portion of time before her session otherwise she tired very quickly too. It really is just so normal what you're describing. Have you been doing any practice? I make sure I take her at least once extra per week and again, I saw a definite improvement in her.

Hopefully · 07/02/2009 17:44

Carriebo lol at the hoovering suggestion - will the cleaner house make me feel less guilty?
And in answer to your question, I thought T grew absolutely loads while he was having his 4 month growth spurt, but according to the charts he's not keeping up with his 'line', so I don't know!

Sunflower maybe you could lend me your DS and he could help me with T!

I waxed my legs earlier for the first time since giving birth

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 07/02/2009 17:59

Did you inspect the wax strips after you used them Heopfully ? I always do. I'm fascinated and disgusted all at the same time

digitalgirl · 07/02/2009 18:04

I gave A a piece of brocolli to hold today while we were having lunch and he absolutely went to town on it!! It's the longest he's ever gnawed or chewed anything (other than his fists), so I think I can safely say he's ready for BLW. I've ordered the Gill Rapley book and I won't be giving anything other than pieces of fruit and steamed veg till we're officially at 26 weeks (he's 23 wks tomorrow). But he absolutely loved it. Haven't even got a high chair yet, we just stuck him in the bumbo with a muslin draped over his lap.

Am uploading a video of it on FB, takes ages but will post when it's up.

Might try giving him something to hold at lunchtime everyday now and making sure I eat when he's awake.

Sorry for all those going through 4-5 month sleep regression. You'll make it out the other side before you know it then we'll just have weaning and teething to contend with!

digitalgirl · 07/02/2009 19:01

ok, it's on our group video board

plusonemore · 07/02/2009 19:40

that is brilliant digital he loves it!! And soooooo much easier than purees

digitalgirl · 07/02/2009 19:45

I know, I've been very sad and watched it a million times! He'll probably hate brocolli tomorrow, but for now it's immortalised and I can use it as evidence that he DOES like his greens when at some point in the future he tries to assure me that he does not.

SunflowerNeedsSunshine · 07/02/2009 21:00

DG he's so sweet! and yes, keep it as evidence! DS ate EVERYTHING til he was 1, now vegetables are a real struggle and def no salads!!

SunflowerNeedsSunshine · 07/02/2009 21:01

hopefully if he wasn't at school, I would have delivered him to you next week

Hopefully · 07/02/2009 21:50

ILTMIMI doesn't everyone? . Nothing quite so gross, yet satisfying.

DG love that video! Although it sounds like you and your DH (I assume) are having the most random conversation...

Woopeee, T has been in his cot for nearly 2 hours! This is very exciting. DP has been putting him down for all his naps today and he's been fine, so hoping he'll be nice to me next week and choose to sleep.

digitalgirl · 07/02/2009 22:40

Hopefully I've been meaning to wax my legs since before A was born. I actually had a wax booked 3 weeks before A's due date, alas he was 3 weeks and 2 days early. I actually had an anxiety dream last night about appearing in public with hairy legs.

(It's DH and MIL having the random conversation whilst this amazing weaning milestone was happening with their son/grandson. They obviously weren't as impressed as I was...)
