Eandz-how are you and Noah? Hope you've managed to get some help

becaroo · 09/02/2009 21:15

Thinking of you enadz

imoscarsmum · 09/02/2009 21:43

Hoping things get better soon Eandz.

Thanks for comments re swimming. We have a proper baby wetsuit and I don't think she's cold so all i can think is she's just too tired. I'm hoping the earlier class they've offered will be better. All the babies in the lesson cry but C gives just heart breaking howls, tears and runny nose and is in no fit state to continue with lesson. I will try her in local toddler pool too at weekend to see if she gets used to it.
She does love her baths, so I am confused. We use a cloth support from mothercare in the big bath - find it really useful as we can fill bath up to her chest to keep her nice and warm and splashy but keeps her face out of water. We do the "Charlotte ready go" in the bath too.

And love the broccoli video!!!!!!

eandz · 09/02/2009 21:43

we just got back maybe 2.5 hours ago from being 'observed' all day at hospital.

around 5ish they told me to stop worrying and that this is normal for kids who have cow milk protein intolerance. i was a bit of a prat and stuck around for a 2nd and 3rd opinion. i refused to leave till i was told something i believed.

they will make me take him back in 3 days, will give me omeprazole, and a new formula. but to be honest, not sure what that will do.

i'm looking forward to tomorrow.

eandz · 09/02/2009 22:49

oh, and i think to avoid any future weird sadness, i think i need something to look forward to.

anyone interested in a monthly poker game?

splishsplosh · 09/02/2009 23:22

Glad that the hospital don't think it's anything more sinister, and sounds very understandable to want other opinions. It must be very scary and distressing having your baby be so unwell.

Don't know about poker, with card games I never progressed beyond playing crib with my grandma. Love the sound of the photo shoot idea though

Kagey · 10/02/2009 14:23

Eandz hope you are having a better day today.

E's cold has got a lot better so back to normal sleep pattens now. I instead had a rough night. Starting feeling shivvery yesterday afternoon and all achey, popped some paracetamol and went to bed early and feel fine today fortunately.

I went to a talk on weaning this morning which was quite interesting, and think I should be ok. E is 21 weeks on Thurs so not long to go now. My Mum is desperate for me to start weaning E, but I am trying to hold off for as long as possible

splishsplosh · 10/02/2009 17:56

got c weighed today and despite the fact that she seems to vomit so much - spent the morning catching puddles of sick - she's gained 12oz in last 2 weeks and is veering back towards 50th centile.
i asked hv about the vomiting and she asked if iwas giving solids yet, suggested baby rice etc. i know people do this, but c is only 20 weeks tomorrow, why does a hv seem to expect / be so comfortable with, people to wean early?isn't it their job to asvise people to wait till 6months?

Sassyfrassy · 10/02/2009 18:08

Hi everyone, just been trying to catch up with everyone's posts on the thread.

Eandz, well done for sticking around for more opinions, you're job is to stand up for Noah and you did that. I hope the new formula will work for him.

Katie is finally getting better with naps and sleeping. I put her down awake in her cot now and she is asleep within 5 minutes. She usually wakes up after 20-30 minutes and I then settle her back but today she settled herself and fell asleep again!

We went to Ikea today and bought her a highchair. I can really recommend the £10 highchair they have, antilop it's called. Katie looked very pleased when put in it.

It's been interesting to read everyone's thoughts on weaning. Myself, I take a rather relaxed view on it. About twice a day I offer Katie some food, be it finger foods or some puree and otherwise I fill her up on milk. I imagine as long as she gets as much milk as she wants she won't starve and she'l llet me know when she wants more solids.

notcitrus · 10/02/2009 18:49

ug. A's new talent is rolling onto his right side. And getting stuck, squashing his arm. And going waah.
Sometimes he gets all the way over, usually when he finds something to pull on like a cot bar or the duvet.
And then he's on his tummy. Which he doesn't like much. And goes waah.
Repeat. Every 5 minutes while he's awake...

He's also decided to sleep at very odd times the last few days.

Seems everyone I know with babies is weaning them and I feel a bit left out. (I'm not getting 'are you still bfing' so much as 'aren't you feeding him?') But as A is only 5mo tomorrow, can't sit, has poor coordination, and shows no interest, I'm going to wait. He's definitely growing - his Bumbo is getting a bit tight round the thighs!

ninja · 10/02/2009 20:47

NC don't worry - you can just make comments like 'is it true that poo's a lot smellier when you start weaning?'...

I like the BLW vid that I saw that showed the process starting from 4 months with the babies sitting at the table and joining in the meal that way and maybe even feeling the food. That way you can feel that you're working towards weaning.

Barnpot · 10/02/2009 21:06

I'm feelimg for you eandz, hope poor noah gets better soon.
re weaning, i've started els on some baby rice hes 23 weeks now, its a bit hit and miss whether he likes it. but he is so ready for solids everytime i have a sandwich, biscuit, bearkfast, anything, he shouts to have a taste, and if I don't let him he starts to cry.
His sleeping is getting better also, we're still bed sharing, but he only fed once for the past 2 nights, however he has now got a cold (again) and has been grizzling all day so think his night feeding will increase again, oh well
take care all x

Ponymum · 10/02/2009 21:23

eandz thinking of you and Noah.

I went to pilates this morning and went through the whole class with a very obvious large wet milk sploge on my left breast. Lucky I am in the super easy class so my classmates are OAPs with hip replacements. Maybe they didn't notice.

Big news in ponyhouse: yesterday DH and I became permanent British residents. And DD... became a British citizen!

Hopefully · 10/02/2009 21:59

How exciting Ponymum!

Well we had a rather fun day today - got the train to London and met up with Lollipop, Sunflower and Eandz and all their gorgeous babies. T was perfect on the train, but mildly embarrassing when he cried non stop for 30 mins in Yo Sushi .

NC T couldn't be less interested in food, and his co-ordination's also crap! I'm not planning on BLW, but still intend to wait till he can at least sit up and take an interest (or until I crack under the pressure of increased night wakings, if that starts happening!)

He's got through the past 3 nights without a night feed, but needed resettling a couple of times each night (30 seconds of shushing and replacing the muslin over his mouth).
Anticipating a crappo night tonight though, as he's a bit over tired from all the excitement of today. He also took a million small feeds instead of a few big ones, as there was just too much to look at.

Debs75 · 10/02/2009 23:22

I guess weaning is starting to take over form sleeping now.
I let Robyn suck my finger which i had rubbed on a slushy pear but she wasn't keen. She doesn't seem at all interested in us eating and makes no attempt eo grab food at all. She's 22 weeks on Friday so a while before I have to really think about it. By then she might be able to sit up by herself.

Me and dh have had the worst weekend ever after catching a throat infection from a friend. I couldn't swallow and dh is going deaf in one ear. We're starting to feel better today, at last. Hoping we haven't passed it on to the dc's.

lollipopmother · 11/02/2009 08:13

Debs - Uhhg sorry to hear that you and DP are ill.

Hopefully - How was your night last night? E slept til 05:30am and was then up for the morning, which is becoming the norm unfortunately, but she didn't get me up in the night like I thought. We were stuck in stationary traffic for so long getting out of London yesterday that I managed to give her a massive feed in the car, as well as her taking a massive feed an hour beforehand. I kept her up til 10pm to get more milk in her and it worked, thank God!

I was so knackered after our meet up yesterday, it's hard work socialising when you're thoroughly out of practice!

I have water babies today, I just can not be bothered! I feel so bloody knackered and all the paths still have snow/ice on them in big lumps, really not good for pram use!

Hopefully · 11/02/2009 09:24

Lollipop it wasn't too bad - T was absolutely knackered when we got home, so he went to bed at about 6:30, feed at 10:30, then woke at 5:30am for a feed, and had a quick nap from 6:30-7am before deciding that the day was well and truly started!
Luckily the million small feeds rather than his usual few big feeds didn't seem to affect him.

SunflowerNeedsSunshine · 11/02/2009 09:35

well, after M embarassing me and scaring everyone up at our meet up yesterday (it was lovely to see hopefully and Lollipop again and meet eandz with their LOs) with her crying, and making me miss on what looked like a nice meal (really, she's normally happy, promised!!), she was back to be her chatty smiley self on the train!! we even managed to miss the train (after 8 years of the the same timetable, they've just anticipated the trains by 3 mins so we just missed ours and had to get on another one and change and just made it at DS's school). by the time we got home and got the 3 of us changed and fed M, as she hadn't eaten since the morning a part from the little at the restaurant, my lunch was a cup of tea and 2 biscuits at 4pm!! so then she was up at what must have been 3, in our bed, but not interested in sleeping, so changed her nappy and fed her in the bathroom with the electric heater on and put her back to bed. as she fell asleep, DS woke up crying and screaming again (wanting water ). At least he has an eye test this morning and could stay in bed a bit longer....

becaroo · 11/02/2009 10:19

Deb you have my sympathy - I have had this throat thing since friday

Now ds1 is off school with a cold and now ds2 has it too. sigh.

ds2 had his 3rd jabs yesterday too so hes really not happy and had a bad night. Feel horrid. Want to go to bed.

Hopefully · 11/02/2009 10:23

Sunflower glad M cheered up a bit! T took her place on the screeching front a little while afterwards...
How frustrating with your DS wanting the water! My SIL has a similar thing - her DS will not get out of bed without her there, no matter what time it is, whether he's happy or sad, whatever. He sits there and yells until she comes in, and then hops out of bed, perfectly happy. She practically has steam coming out of her ears with frustration sometimes...

I am sooooo in love with my Kenwood Chef! I made marshmallows last night (much easier than you'd expect, and really scrummy and no nasties), and I'm going to make some bread later on.

Hopefully · 11/02/2009 10:55

Oh, lollipop and sunflower (or any other real nappy experts!) I meant to ask yesterday - T's nappies don't tend to leak overnight (Tots Bots Bamboozles with airflow wrap), but they are very much 'full' by the morning, so his skin is really wet, and he's getting the beginnings of nappy rash, especially as he's either gone to bed late or slept through for the past few nights, so had one less nappy change.
Is there a nappy which might wick away slightly more (perhaps have higher absorbancy, so it's not so damp next to his skin?) for night time? Don't mind if it's not the cheapest, as I'll only buy one or two...

eandz · 11/02/2009 11:14

ooh!
i met sunshine, hopefully for the first time yesterday! I've met lollipop before, but didn't get a chance to talk to her before yesterday. All was good till i bumped noah's head on the ceiling of yo sushi.

i think because i failed to notice the reflux till it had gotten horrible, i felt extra guilty about the bumping on the head.

meeting up really lifted my spirits! it was such a nice break to be able to speak to people i felt i already felt a little familiar with. i normally don't get a chance to be chatty with first encounters.

hopefully and sunshine have really pretty slings.

notcitrus · 11/02/2009 12:27

hopefully - I'm no expert but Bumbles with a booster pad work pretty well for A, plus a paper liner if MrNC changes him (I don't bother).
But A 'kindly' wakes me up when he's soggy - quite happy to sit in poo for hours - so he's rarely wet for long.

Can you put a booster pad in a bamboozle?

SunflowerNeedsSunshine · 11/02/2009 12:36

hopefully go for a fleece lined nappy, get over here, various suggestions

SunflowerNeedsSunshine · 11/02/2009 12:37

debs feel for you, had that just before I went to italy when I was pg and passed to everyone, even poor DB who'd taken annual leave to be around for me
