Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
NorthernLurker · 11/04/2008 22:21

Now look SPB - you can do this! It is not always going to be like this. You are going to make it through this phase!

Elkie -- thats ounds like a lovely day

Spring weather always reminds me of babies too btw

StealthPolarBear · 11/04/2008 22:24

the worst thing is, going in makes him 100x worse
How bad is it if I don't - it just prolongs the agony?
(Obv when I hear him stop crying for about a min I will check)

NorthernLurker · 11/04/2008 22:30

You need to let him stop for longer than a minute before you check - otherwise you'll just wake him up as he's settling down. So at the moment you're trying the go and calm him then leave again method? Tbh - sounds like it's winding him up and upsetting you. I would try either leave him to cry till he settles and when he's been quiet for at least 10 minutes then check on him. Or - pick him up now and carry him round with you - don't pay him any particular attention - just sit at the computer with him or watch tv, talk to dh? If he cries just hold him safely and let him do his thing. he'll know you're there and he's ok - he will settle. I think either way is fine - just do what you feel comfortable with.

StealthPolarBear · 11/04/2008 22:34

it's been about 5 minutes since last noise, 10 mins since full on crying
I'll give it a few more mins, you are right.
Don't think we could carry him round, the light/goings on would wake him and he'd wriggle

NorthernLurker · 11/04/2008 22:40

Wriggling is Not Good I would be of the leave to cry persuasion too myself - but I know it's not everybodys cup of tea - the carry thing was just an alternative. Sounds like you are on to a good thing now

Just been reading onlyjoking's thread - Steve's family are insane

StealthPolarBear · 11/04/2008 22:41

he has stopped crying but is not asleep, just sitting there wide awake!
What on earth do we do? He's just given up crying.

NorthernLurker · 11/04/2008 22:44

ok so he's sitting - that's fine. Sounds to me like he's on his way to sleep. He knows you're there so put any thoughts you have about him 'giving up crying' out of your head! He's a bright boy - he's tried it 'cos he fancied a party - it hasn't worked so now he just needs to let go and go to sleep. Let him find his own way through it.

NorthernLurker · 11/04/2008 23:24

Hope all is well now SPB - night all

mammyjo · 12/04/2008 07:55

Morning all!

SPB, hope you managed to get T settled eventually last night and it wasn't too traumatic. You have my sympathy, we went through the same with ds and it was so hard. It really does get better though xxx

Elkie, have a good time at the farm

Hope everyone is ok, have good weekends all. I am off out with the dc's today. Not quite sure where yet as the weather is wet one minute and sunny the next! My mum is coming with us just in case I get another pain attack, but hopefully I will be ok!

Eddas · 12/04/2008 07:59

Happy Birthdays

StealthPolarBear · 12/04/2008 08:28

Happy Birthday George, Ruby and Austen

Well I went up, checked on him and left him. DH went to check 10 mins later and came down with him, saying he couldn't leave him there wide awake! (Sorry NL, I hadn't read your post, wasn't ignoring your advice)
We need to sort out the early evenings, but after we've gone to bed we're just going to co sleep as soon as he wakes, it's the best way it seems that we all get some sleep. I pointed out to DH that it might be for the next year and he said fine.
The sleep saga continues

Sexonlegs · 12/04/2008 08:49

Morning all.

Happy Birthday George, Ruby and Austen

Elkie, your day out sounded lovely as does your planned trip for today. Enjoy

MJ, hope you have a good day out and the pain stays away.

SPB, I hope you get something sorted with sleep. I am gong to sound a patronizing old cow, but whatever you choose, you need to be consistent. These lo's are as crafty as a wagon load of monkeys - give them an inch and they will take a mile .

Right, need to get together - leave in just over an hour and still in pj's.

Hope you all have a great weekend, and that all the birthday babes have lovely days'. xx

CaptainDippy · 12/04/2008 09:06

Happy Birthday George, Ruby, & Austen!!

Hope T settled ok in the end SPB. xxxx

LOL @ all the cake talk - yum!

How's S today SOL? Any more runny nappies? (You fave subject, I know )

Right, need to hop in the shower and get on with the day .... I am tired amd still feeling a bit weird and fed-up, but at least DH is home today

AngeG · 12/04/2008 09:26

Morning

Happy Birthday George, Ruby and Austen.
Belated Happy Birthday for yesterday to William, Keir and Rose.

MJ - Glad the painkillers are working. Hope you're feeling more like yourself soon.

SOL - Have a good time at your inlaws. I'm sure B will have a great time.

SPB - Glad T settled in the end. It's so difficult. I agree with SOL that consistency helps. Hope it gets better for you.

Dippy - Sorry you are not feeling 'right' Glad DH is home today and can help out. Thinking of you.

Morning Octo and Eddas.

Not a lot on this weekend. J has a party tomorrow am and DH is at work this morning.

Don't think I've said already, but Jake tripped in the back door on Monday evening and banged his nose on the window sill. Loads of blood etc. I had him sitting on the side in the kitchen, trying to stem the blood. Izzy screaming at the gate. (Where was DH? In the bloody garden) More about that in a sec. Upshot is J now as a fantastic black eye

Now DH. He is winding me up atm. Doesn't really matter what he does, he just irritates me (I'm not even due on!) Like on Monday, he knew J was screaming, but he didn't come in from the garden to 'help'. He just carried on digging. In the end I had to leave J holding tissue under his nose and go out into the garden and yell at DH to help It's making my blood boil as I type it After that really it's just little things. I can hardly bear to be in the same room as him Hope things get better soon.

Sorry for the rant, needed to get it off my chest.

Also J has to go into hospital on Wednesday for more grommets. His hearing is really bad again and I am hoping by having them done now, his hearing should be ok when he starts school.

On brighter news. Izzy is now walking more than crawling (when she hasn't got shoes on!)When she has her shoes on she's not as confident but is getting there.

Hope everyone has good weekends.

xxx

oooggs · 12/04/2008 10:08

Pesha · 12/04/2008 13:59

Hello!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY to all the babies who've had birthdays that I've missed!!

Dippy - hope you've enjoyed your few minutes peace!

MJ - hope you have a nice day out and don't have any or at least not too much pain.

SOL - School hols here too (if that wasn't apparent from my desperate post yesterday!!), lovely that your parents are having B for a week, sure she'll love it when shes there, a bit of time to be centre of attention and not have to share with K!!

SPB - when I was doing Cc and things with D I found going in then coming out again would just enrage him and set him off even more. So I either just keft him to it or I sat in the room with my hand on him but ignored everything else, no eye contact etc, until he went to sleep. Took quite a while but might be easier if you find leaving him too hard. He knows you're there so is secure and reassured but not getting any interaction so may as well give up and go to sleep iyswim. Although D did get a bit angry at first that I was there but not cudlling/feeding him. Also if hes happy in his cot I would just leave him there, some babies like to do their quiet winding down time on their own on the cot before going to sleep, I think M and N both used to do this. N would often play for ages before going to sleep, in fact they both still do! And D was awake for a couple of hours the other evening before I went to bed but no crying just talking and banging of toys so I left him to it!!

DS1 flooded the bathroom/kitchen this morning Put plug in bathroom sink and left taps running, I didnt realise til he pointed out the puddle of water in the kitchen And it was dripping through the ceiling just above, and all over, the fuse box All ok now and noone electrocuted although heating on full to try and dry everything out M and N going to football with J this afternoon and J wanted to tell N he couldn't go but I pointed out that that would be punishing me too!! So they're both off soon and I'm hoping D will go to sleep in a min so I can have a bit of peace or maybe even a sleep myself!

Wrote this about an hour ago but modem was pulled out so obviously didnt post!!

M an N gone. d went to bed, slept for 10 mins and woke up I'm not impressed
