Sorry you're low beany - I have days like that too. Definitely get out it'll make all the difference.

After a horrible rainy day here yesterday we are having another gorgeous day here today. Must be a first that the weather here in Scotland is better than with a lot of you in England.

Egg - I would get her weighed properly if you're concerned. I wouldn't worry if she seems healthy though - definitely don't worry about where she is on the charts. Not all babies can be on the 50th centile! I think it's nice when little girls are dainty. Hope ds1 feels better soon.

Had the head teachers meeting at nursery this morning - the one I turned up for last week. DS3 is having a mammoth nap so I'd better get him up and fed before it's time to go back and collect the other 2.

missnatalie · 29/04/2008 10:58

Morning all,

Egg you've made my day

Henleys doctors appt was a nightmare and i came out feeling very angry. It was a locum Dr as the usual one is away on holiday. The locum said that the thing in his mouth is a cyst. He did give it a name but i cant remember. Hes going to write to the hospital to see if it needs to be removed. I then asked him about Henleys poo's and told him how they've changed. He smiled at me and said your a first time mum arnt you, stop being so paranoid just keep your eye on it!! First time mum or not, if i dont know something im going to ask.

Cant wait for our weekend break. Im trying to get all our clothes washed and ready to pack. There all washed but the tumble dryer has just packed up and its raining outside so i cant get them dry. Ive got 4 baskets of wet washing just sat in my hall way. Engineer cant come until Thursday.

Can i ask you all which nappies your using. Im using disposable ones. When he was first born he was in the Pampers newborn but he was pooing out of the side of them. I then put him in Huggies which were fine but now there not absorbing all his wee and he wee's alot. So he's back in Pampers. The baby dry one's. Just wondered what everyone else uses and what you think of them.

sallyforth · 29/04/2008 12:08

Hi everyone. Its sunny here today for the first time in ages, unfort DS is all snuffly and subdued so not sure i should really take him out - what do you think? maybe if I wrap him up really warm... Poor little mite.

Rozzy - roll on the day DS discovers his thumb - at the moment it spends all its time bunched up inside his fist! and he will only sleep when I'm holding him...

alkar - how was the nursery, did you like it?

missnatalie - henley is teh cute! hope the cyst thing gets sorted out soon and just ignore those patronising docs... re Nappies am using pampers disp but not that happy with them tbh, the wee leaks out of the leg holes cos ds is quite skinny... was thinking of trying huggies but maybe given what you say I will add a motherease wrap instead.

omy - so nice to hear from you, glad all is well. I too am dreading going back to work - I think though there is nothing wrong with changing your plans if you feel that is best for the dc.

beany - hope you are feeling better now the weather has improved - I also get the stir crazy feeling when I can't go out but have to walk everywhere so rain is not good....

morningglory - you have got more done already this morning than I get done in a week!!! doesnt help that ds doesn't like being put down!

egg - my ds is not quite 10lb, too. i would say don't stress if you feel dd is healthy. all babies are different and you can always try offering her a bit more milk and see if she takes it.

Gill - I have joined you in the "back to where I started" weight thing (altho you can comfort yourself I have never been as slim as you are now at 9st9!!)

Oh I have added some more pics of ds to my profile, as the original one has him looking all newborn-ish and now he's growing up!!

tyaca · 29/04/2008 12:23

hey bean - sun's come out here. now, if i;d been a geog'pher rather than a history-er at school, i may have an idea whether that means it'll soon be sunny where you are.

another big row with dh last night. esther didnt go back to sleep after feeding at half four - luckily she went down at 8am, as did i which means i have had a v unproductive morning and am similarly feeling a bit off-kilter.

leesmum · 29/04/2008 12:23

Hi Sally my lo is also all snuffly, you can't see it but you can hear it all right at the back of his nose, he's been wrapped up now asleep for 1hr outside and tonight i'll get the bathroom all steamed up and hope that helps a bit. But last night was terrible because he kept waking up gagging so i ended up putting a pillow underneath him to get him to sleep better, it seemed to work btw the pics are lovely what a gorgeous little man x

Missnatalie i'm pleased your appointment with docs went ok at least you know what it is now, allthough your patronising doctor sounds like an arse!! Have a fab weekend and i agree with egg, henley is the image of his daddy x

gingermumi · 29/04/2008 13:24

ds has has vaccs 2day so is clinging to me like a limpit.

beaney- big hugs, hope getting out makes you feel a bit better.

Egg - soz that ds ill, hw's he doing?

OMY- like you am only going back so i get paid for hols, don't want to go back at all, its not that i hate my job, i love it , but i love being with ds so much more. money dictates that i don't have a choice. am thinmking of 3 days too.

missnat, how did it go at docs? hope all ok hun

am off to my parents to get fed, ds wont let me out him down so i guess thats the only way i'll get lunch!

gingermumi · 29/04/2008 13:25

ooh cross post, glad all ok missnat

alkar · 29/04/2008 14:04

Have got to agree with the others missnatalie henley is cute and looks so much like his dad Sorry that the GP wasn't very good, I work in a hospital and hate it when the doctors think they know everything - too many people treat them like gods!

Did you manage to get out for a walk bean?

Nursery was good thanks sally. I now have to choose between a large nursery with 2 baby rooms with about 30 babies in each room - they have loads of toys and outdoor space and a very good ofsted report. Or the other nursery is small with just 6 babies but closer to home and cheaper, no ofsted yet as it only opened in October. Anyone have any advice? I need to decide ASAP as there is only one place left in the smaller one and thats for December!!!

beansprout · 29/04/2008 15:56

Alkar - I would go with the smaller one. I think the less busy the better for the v little 'uns.

Am feeling a bit better, thanks everyone. Have to go off to a management committee meeting at ds1's nursery later. Am so desperate for adult company, I am actually looking forward to it, even though it royally messes up bedtime as we don't get back until 7.15pm!! Bless dh, is indulging me!!

rozzyraspberry · 29/04/2008 16:23

Alkar - I agree with beany, I'd be tempted to go for the smaller one too. Although I'm sure both will be fine as they are only allowed so many babies per staff member aren't they? I'd want to make sure that each lo has a specific member of staff if you went with the bigger one - they must have a lot of staff to be allowed to take as many babies as that and I'd prefer continuity with someone who really knows my lo if I were you. More settling for your lo too. Hope that makes sense - just think I'd be happier if a certain staff member was responsible for Jack, Sally and Ben etc iykwim.

Sally - ds is much happier now he has his thumb - no more gagging now he's not stuffing his whole hand in!

missnat - glad you now know what the cyst is. Ignore the smug gp - what a prat!! I think all mothers are 'paranoid' (I'd call it concerned/caring myself!) and they'd be better served to answer concerns rather than make comments like that.

I'm dreading going back to work. Not sure when I'm going to - depends how money lasts. Enjoying being a housewife though. Bit depressing as as this is my last baby I will now be working constantly until I retire (unless we win the lottery).

omy · 29/04/2008 20:42

Love the pics missnatalie - he does look like his daddy doesn't he. gorgeous eyes! I use MOLTEX nappies which I buy from this website www.spiritofnature.co.uk/
They are supposed to be biodegradeable which makes me feel a bit less guilty about using disposables!

Sally - my LO is at the same stage - just finding her hands. Very cute pics!

Leila has a snotty nose today. So far she is still able to feed as it is not too bad. I hope it doesn't get worse. She did a huge 'up the backy' poo at 4am last night and giggled while i changed her clothes. i was trying not to make eye contact as i wanted her to go back to sleep and not get the mistaken idea that it was morning! Which thank god she did - not suprised you felt rough this morning Tyaca - hope tonight is better.

Egg - how is DS1 - hope he wasn't ill.

Beany - I felt down today too - the grey weather doesn't help - neither does eating half a tub of hagen daaz and a huge packet of kettle chips

OP posts:
beansprout · 29/04/2008 20:48

I flipping love Kettle Chips. What flavour?

omy · 29/04/2008 20:58

Just plain - you should see the size of the packet - they were from costco - left over after a party for my MILs 70th birthday! I has taken me 3 days to get through it!

OP posts:
omy · 29/04/2008 21:05

Beany - I meant to ask - how did the meetup go? Sorry I missed it. I was shattered when I got back from Spain and had to do nothing for a few days.

OP posts:
alkar · 30/04/2008 08:24

Thanks bean and rozzy I think I will go with the smaller one, I feel better with DS just having one member of staff looking after him.

Round 2 of his immunisations this morning, I am being a wimp though, my dad is going to take him

beansprout · 30/04/2008 09:42

Omy - sorry you couldn't make the meet up. It was fab - Kenwood is lovely and we sat in the sunshine. All 3 babies were in slings/carriers and there were some little old ladies on the next table. When one of them realised that a small head was poking out she said, "oh look, there's a baby in there" and her friend replied, "ooh, they've got one each!"

Hope you can make the next one.
Am impressed that a packet of Kettle Chips lasted for 3 days!!

Ok here today, ds1 at home too but it pouring with rain so even a simple trip to the shops is going to feel like an expedition. Sigh.

sarahmikeharryandrosie · 30/04/2008 10:10

Missnatalie- re nappies i use either tesco -or sainsbury nappies- have found with both my dc's that pampers and huggies leaked and smell funny once wet!!

Tesco were great for ds now aged 3 so i automatically got them for DD- I sometimes shop at sainsburys so i get theirs which are just as good- also both are alot cheaper than the bigger brands- hope that helps

omy · 30/04/2008 11:04

Beany - rain has stopped here (west london) so hopefully with you too! I am very keen to get out but have given myself the task of painting an old chest of drawers i bought yesterday for DD2 so it will be nice and new looking when she gets back from school trip on friday! (very quiet round here!)

Am feeling very pleased as LO took a bottle this morning with minimal fuss. I have been giving her one a day since saturday as I now am working saturdays so DH has her for the day - and last saturday was very traumatic as she fought the bottle and didn't really eat until I got home! So I have MADE myself give her one each day (am when she is in a good mood) and each day she has taken less time to accept it - 1 hour on the first day down to 5 mins this morning! Am soooo proud!!! (of myself for persevering!!! - and of her for being sooo clever!!!)

OP posts:
morningglory · 30/04/2008 11:26

Omy: great news about baby taking a bottle. It means that Saturdays will be a bit less stressful for you, knowing that she can be fed without you. I hope DD2 will like her new chest of drawers.

beany: how are you doing today? Hope you had a better night, and that it stops pissing down so you can take DS1 out.

alkar: hope jabs go by without incident. Also, I think you are making the right choice with the smaller place.

Weighed myself, and I'm back to my starting weight. Sigh, things are not moving very fast...

Sooooo I am going to bravely join the weight loss brigade! Though fully expect it will take me a year to shift a stone - but that's fine as long as it stays that way!

Am loitering here as painting the drawers went off the agenda - the paint DH gave me was a horrible hospital cream colour - so I gave up and am going to buy some white when LO wakes up! LO is booked into the creche (first time!) so it will be interesting to see if she is happy there - it is all a question of timing - she could sleep through the whole thing or she could be miserable...

By the way - when I was in Spain, the friend I was staying with had a copy of the baby whisperer book - so I read the whole thing! And it has really helped me with structuring our life - I wish I had had that book when I had my other babies! - I used to feed DD1 whenever she cried - so that means that half of the time she was crying from tiredness and so she got hugely fat!! - luckily she went back to normal when I stopped breastfeeding! What was worse though was the fact that she got used to going to sleep at the boob - so I never left her with anyone else for 1 year - I didn't really mind that much though as I was totally obsessed with her!!

Egg · 30/04/2008 13:26

Hello to you all. Sorry so many had crap days yesterday, mine was cack too . Spent a lot of the day in tears mainly because all three DCs did too... However am feeling better today so hope others are too. This weather makes it worse, I cannot face leaving the house with double buggy and sling to get soaked and have to get everyone changed again when we get home.

DS1 still not eating really, but he seems fairly happy. DD being a nightmare with her feeds as well. DS2 I think is brewing up a big poo so keeps crying out in his sleep.

Alkar my DCs go to a fairly big nursery, but certainly not 30 babies in each room. I think they have about 15 at most in each on any one day, so 15 0-18 months, 15 18-36 months and then 15 or so 3 years plus. They are all allocated a key worker who is the one who always feeds them etc. I am more than happy with the nursery but have to say if I was given the choice when DS1 was younger (he only started at 18 months) I would have gone for the small one too. Not sure though about the Ofsted thing and how much that matters, as I am a bit clueless on these things .

DS1's sandpit arrived today. Not exactly the weather for it but he loves it as we put it together inside and (it is the one from ELC) when you put the lid on it is a play table / road for his cars. He has also spent some time putting all his cars into the huge box it came in, then crawling in to retrieve them .

I think one of the reasons I have bad days, I have realised, is when our routine goes completely out of the window. I hate not being sure if one of the DTs is crying because they are hungry or because they are tired, it makes my whole day so much more stressful and I am not in any way a control freak! DD keeps messing around with her feeds, so I am never sure if she might be starving or just bored, I thought I knew her starving cry but it seems not!
