Uni, good luck with the outlaws!

UniS · 21/03/2009 20:35

I survived...

I'm getting our plans for teh great family road trip to up north started. Any of you available for a day out near Buxton June 11th/ 12 ish or around then?

WE went to the beach today. Twas glorious sunny. Managed to creep boy into paddling at last- he was a refusnick last sumer after being bowled off his feet by a small wave he hadn't spotted snuck up on him. Today howver we got as far as proper paddling, little waves and all, throwing stones, filling a bucket with water, making foot prints and squidging and burying our toes in wet sand. It was a really nice day. Not even MiL could spoil it.

laundrylover · 22/03/2009 11:36

Those dates look good for me Uni...will put them in my diary.

Happy Mother's Day one and all.

Just read that Jade Goody died this morning - a blessing I suppose but awful timing. Was reading a MN thread last week where people were still saying it wasd a fake. Made me despair of humanity.

There's my cherry post for the day!!!!

Had a fab time in Harrogate. Squeezed in a couple of special cuddles and lots of reading and eating - just what I needed.

Frizbe · 22/03/2009 18:30

you went to Harrogate, that's where we're going in two weeks!! where did you stay, I think we can only afford premier inn mind....unless you have any good cheap recommendations? Glad you had a lovely time

Agree for Jade Goody to passing away, horrible remider for her kids.

Uni I think I'm good for those dates, just need to check work diary, we get back from France week before

Happy Mothers Day to one and all, I was expecting to be at home today, but my Mum nagged my dad into rescuing us (dh away with car) so I can now report enough room in back of a Ford C-Max for 2 kids boosters and an adult, we even had a car picnic in Chatsworth Carpark, as farrrrrr toooo cooold outside We took the cheap option and walked in the grounds, looking at sheep and some idiot who let their dog off the lead (ineviatbly it herded the sheep )

UniS · 22/03/2009 20:40

A very sunny mothers day indeed down here in devon. DH got the hint and asked if I'd rather do something together instead of him going to cricket nets in middle of day.
So, we rented a tandem bike and went off on teh granite way cycle path to try and work out how to ride one. Boy was in his trailer behind and we took his bike on teh back of the trailer so he rode some of teh trail too.
It was a super day out. I really enjoyed it. The Tandem is bit of a skill to learn, but we don't think it spelt divorce instantly ( some people do I'm told) so we are still thinking of getting one for ourselves later in the year.

Glad you guys had decent days out as well.

Boy had written his name in a card he had made, ohhhh sweet. Its been ice not to be working, 1st sunday in ages at home.

Astrophe · 22/03/2009 22:43

Uni, your sunny beach and cycling days sound lovely

Friz, your Chatsworth day sounds lovely - how I miss it! There is nothing like it here - no rolling green hills. The bush is spectacular, but not gentle...and anyway its 2 hours away!

LL, your Harrogate trip sounds lovely too! We went there the first year we were in UK, when DS was 8 months old.

Not Mothers day here, I need to wait until May. Must start dropping hints for DH now Glad you all had nice days though.

Its gorgeous and sunny here today - DH has some (temporary) data entry work to do when he gets back from kindy run, so I might take DS to the beach for a run about and paddle.

UniS · 22/03/2009 22:59

Good news on Astros DH ahving some work, even if only temp, its something to keep him busy for a while.

Cadmum · 23/03/2009 15:40

Happy Belated Mothers' Day everyone!

It was not Mothers' Day here in Switzerland nor in our house! DH flew out to Edinburgh early Sunday morning and had his interview this morning. I feel nervous/sick waiting to hear the outcome. Thankfully, he felt happy about the actual presentation and interview process so it is all out of our hands.

I wonder how long it might take for them to make a decision...

His big day is actually Friday as he has his Viva for the PhD. We could be calling him doctor dad by the weekend.

I am envious of the little vacations. Must try and sort out something for my clan before it is high season again.

laundrylover · 23/03/2009 15:54

Caddy and Astro, you should've insisted on a UK Mother's Day too!!

Harrogate - we stayed at Grants Hotel which was lovely downstairs as had been refurbished but the bedrooms were a bit 70s! Cost about £80 (but some rooms were cheaper) for B&B and a pass to a Leisure Club. Not bad. Can recommend the Rajput for a curry.

Sun is out here but it is really chilly. Just back from work, pegged washing out (of course) and DP and kids off at the dentist. Catching up on emails but yawning away...may have a little nap...how naughty!!!

laundrylover · 23/03/2009 20:14

Caddy, can you pop over here extended bfers and shed a little light on links between bfing and cavies?? RoRoMummy is having some issues.

Are you still bfing BTW? Kiah has dropped bedtime feeds last week with a view to stopping completely on her birthday on Sun...we'll see how that works out eh?

Frizbe · 25/03/2009 11:38

Thanks LL will check that hotel out, as still haven't booked anything pondering staying further across country too, as meeting friends for Sunday lunch in Redcar! (its a 50th!) before legging it back to parents to get the kids.

Astro, yay for dh getting some work, sorry for making you want to go to Chatsworth though

Uni, your mothers day sounds lovely I keep pondering how to get dh onto a bike! probably never.....

Caddy, fingers very x'd for your dh and the job, I'm sure he'll pass the viva with ease too Dr Caddy!

Cadmum · 27/03/2009 14:53

Woo Hoo!

We are officially Dr and Mrs Caddy.

Massive relief as even I could not sleep last night.

UniS · 27/03/2009 22:11

Congratulations Dr Caddy.
Caddy welcome to teh club, we are Dr and Ms.
I can barely remember Dh getting his phd, I do remember treking down to bristol for his awarding do and the rather nice red and purple gown he had to wear.

Astrophe · 28/03/2009 01:44

Great news Caddy
When will you find out about scotland?

Frizbe · 29/03/2009 11:17

Yay Caddy that's great news

So we have snow in half the garden and brilliant sunshine in the other half, welcome to British Summer Time dd2 is sat in her hat and pj's 'cause it's snowed mummy'

UniS · 29/03/2009 13:36

just brilliant sunshine here in devon. NOta hint of snow, daffs look lovely, apple tree is burtsing into leaf.

laundrylover · 30/03/2009 10:03

Wahay Caddy!!!

No sun or snow here. Just drizzle.

Still in my dresing gown and need to be at a meeting in an hour..better get my bum in gear.

OP posts:
Frizbe · 30/03/2009 21:03

Did you make it LL?

Apple trees in bloom already, the cherry trees are only just out here it really is grim up north eh?

Well roll on Friday, I've booked dh and I into the cheapo premier inn at York, as Harrogate all booked up, but at least we're in quickish driving distance, so daytrip it is!

UniS · 31/03/2009 09:55

The current conundrum

DO I start boy at preschool on 1st day of term, knowing that we/ he has a busy and exciting week and weekend ahead full of visitors and random day trips. OR do I wait 10 days and start him on a day I know one of his older friends will be there.& all the excitement about grandparents looking after him for weekend will have died down.

Frizbe · 31/03/2009 22:44

Is he going for the 3 days that are left this week? To be honest I think I'd wait until after the hols.

UniS · 31/03/2009 23:26

not goinga t all till after hos, I'd have to pay for him this side of easter. I'm coming down on teh side of wait till teh 2nd week of term and start on his friends day.

Astrophe · 01/04/2009 03:22

I think I'd wait too Uni - that way the staff will have a bit more time for him as well, as the other new ones will have already started presumably.

All got colds here - DS on 5th day of high fever, but he seems to be imporoving so I will wait until this arvo to decide whether to fill his prescription or not. DD very bouncy and perky but mild temperature, and me dizzy and being sick again DH gone to donate blood, so DC watching tv while I slob about.

laundrylover · 01/04/2009 22:09

Ugh to colds Astro.

Uni, I'd wait for a bit if you're not desperate for the childcare...

Friz, of course I made my meeting! Went down to London yesterday for my course today and just home. Tiring. Started reading a book (The Vanishing Act Of Esme Lennox) when I went to bed at just gone midnight this morning and finshed it as the train pulled into my home station tonight. Good lot of me time there!

BTW....guess which 3 year old doesn't have booby any more!!!???

OP posts:
Frizbe · 01/04/2009 22:19

Astro for you feeling sick again and for the kids being poorly too, hope all well for the weekend?

LL at the you time with the book, well done! Glad you made the meetings ok, take it you weren't tempted to stay and protest then?

Have a headache here, as have been glossing in dd1's room to be, hoping to get her moved across on monday.....tba!

laundrylover · 02/04/2009 11:10

I feel that my protesting days are over!! Go and get some fresh air to clear your head Friz.

I came back from a run this morning, pegged the washing out and got carried away pootling in the garden....I hope it's sunny on Sat as am having a garden day. Think we'll miss the tulips whilst we're away. Just ordered 4 big bags of compost from the amazing composter at the wholesale veg market...spews out tons every week!

Kiah has stayed at playgroup for lunch today and starts two full days when we get back from hols....I'll have so much free time I shall be forced to keep a clean house.
