I like the second list - it's longer, more of us still around
UD - I was going to suggest MN local too! But I'm socially constipated and wouldn't know how to make friends at the best of times!!

eandh · 17/01/2008 20:49

I have mates with kids same age but some have older ones at school, some work different days to me and its just impossible to ake definate plans. Eddas and my future sil are my saviours (altough future sil is always at mine as I have bigger house so I end up cooking for nephew and clearing up after 3 children when they move int otheir new house I am taking revenge and going there!)

ladytophamhatt · 17/01/2008 20:49

UD, are there any toddler groups near by?

When we moved here I made it my mission to find one and started going ASAP.

Now, I have more friends here then I ever had in Surrey...it'll take a while but small children are a grat way of starting a convo/friendship.

Wilkie · 17/01/2008 21:40

Hello. Sorry you are all having shitty days. Mine was reasonable.

UD - bummer mate. I hope you feel better soon. That is what frightens me about moving town/city - I am comfortable here, I love my job, I am not too far from my family and have some good friends The thought of having to do it all again just fills me with dread

J has actually managed to go to sleep tonight without too much screaming. Poor DH, my ear is blocked - am totally deaf in it - have appointment to have it syringed next Weds but last night J screamed for two hours and I just didn't hear him cos I had my good ear pillow side down!! DH spent two hours getting him back to sleep and god love him I didn't stir AND he didn't wake me. Big kisses for my DH

Not much to report here...

canofworms · 17/01/2008 22:19

What a busy day I've had!

Dd2 was up all night being sick (mainly over me ) so we overslept till 8.20!!

I had to go and get 2 guinea pigs for dd1's birthday tomorrow then go round my friends to get her hutch (her rabbit recently died so said I could have hers for free )

Then picked dd1 up from school, took her to gymnastics, went to pay for her party on sunday, called at the chippy on the way home, got them bathed and in bed, mil came round and still need to do packed lunches and uniforms for tomorrow! Why did I have 3?!?! Actually I know why because I love them to bits

So, actually, dd3 has been little bother today - she just has to fit in with everyone elses plans and never really complains.

Wilkie - are you putting olive oil in your ear? The best plan is to put it in before you go to bed and sleep with that ear uppermost ie not on the pillow!! (it's part of my job syringing ears which peculiarly I actually enjoy!)

UD - I'd agree with LTH and go to as many mums and tots groups as you can and you soon start to make friends.

Only 1 comment on my name change - is it crap? I really need ideas as I'm not very imaginitive (and by the way I'm canmummy if you can't work it out )

theUrbanDryad · 17/01/2008 22:29

canofworms - i like your name. if you take the hutch, make sure you disinfect it before you put the pigs in - you don't know what the rabbit died of and they are dirty little fuckers!!

canofworms · 17/01/2008 22:41

UD - glad you like it! And yes I've swept, hoovered, scrubbed and disinfected the hutch!! It's also snowed since their rabbit died so figured the cold will have killed most bugs. Do you have g.pigs? It's the 1st time in about 20 years (ahem) that I've kept them

JodieG1 · 18/01/2008 08:25

UD - you aren't hugely far from me, maybe one day we could sort something out if you like? I've been here 3 years now and only just starting to make more friends. I've been out with my neighbour a few times and she's lovely, dd and her son are in the same class at school.

Be back soon Ethan is snotting over me now.

Wilkie · 18/01/2008 08:49

Canofworms - your name is OK but I cant think of anything more imaginative!! Yes, olive oil is going in my ear, I am sleeping with that blocked ear pointing upwards and have a towel on my pillow as the oil dribbles out!!

Are you a nurse??

theUrbanDryad · 18/01/2008 09:11

Canofworms - i used to have a guinea pig and a rabbit. but i've kept hamsters since i was 14, so i know a bit about rodent care.

Jodie - are you still near my new place? i live near Amersham now, in Chesham, place of Cheese and Ham

theUrbanDryad · 18/01/2008 09:13

Wilkie - have you tried ear candles? they work well for my super waxy ears!!

Lizzzombie · 18/01/2008 10:30

Good morning!
Well, I had a good night out last night. Always good to get out of the house for a few beers right!

I left at 8.15. DJ was sound asleep
He woke up at 8.30 and screamed until I got home at 11.30 ish
DP was not a happy daddy.

DJ was up at 5.30am this morning, but is still asleep now, after nearly 2 hours... to wake or not to wake!?

Canofworms - I think you have a good name. My Mum is a practice nurse and syringes ears alot. She was doing one (particularly divvy) woman once, and some the wax landed on the other sholder somehow, and my Mum joked it had gone right through. The woman asked if that happend alot and that she hadn't felt it go right through....yeah...Ok..then!

I have got so much to get ready for this weekend today I have no idea where to start. I'm working tomorrow and DP is out on a bender tonight for a baby wetting thing.

If I get it all done I will be around all night though...so always available for scrabulous - 2happy I will always play with you! I have 7 inactive games and I am sure a few of them are with people on here who haven't taken a go for ages and ages!

Have a good day everyone....enjoy the rain! x

JodieG1 · 18/01/2008 10:50

UD - ignore me I'd forgotten you'd moved! I'm about 70 miles away from you. Blame the lack of sleep. I've read some of the book now
and it certainly makes a lot of sense, can't wait to finish it and try some out.

Liz - sounds awful I'd let him sleep until he woke up personally. Ethan's just woken from a 1 and a quarter hour nap which
is good for him, working on those naps now.

I'm off to eat something before I starve hehe.

bunnyhunny · 18/01/2008 11:21

wilkie - dh put warm olive oil in his ear once, but didnt realise quite how warm he'd made it. I can remember him bounding around the room swearing lol

ud - I had to go to loads of mums and toddler groups to make friends here. All mu friends are miles away, so it was quite isolating when I had S (lack of local mates wasnt a problem when I was working full time). Last night we went for a meal, and have a pub crawl planned, so I am slowly getting a social life! You could look for a local la leche league, or a bf cafe?
How is the new place?

Lizz - did you get the trampoline made yet? a 5.30 wake up?!?! I think I would go back to bed, and let him nap as long as he likes!!

Canofworms - the name is ok - if you like it stick with it. Can't think of anything interesting starting with can myself, so I can't help. sorry!

Just had his 12 month check cancelled, as apparently we had it done 3 months ago? how does that work?

I am currently trying to sort out the house before we go to soft play with some of sauls friends for his birthday. Then tomorrow we have mil over, and may go to the zoo, and sunday we are going swimming and have my parents over. busy, busy.

Dh had a row with step-dad - he keeps doing everything for s, and S is playing on it. So if he falls over, stepdad rushes to pick him up, and s cries, whereas if stapdad isnt about he just picks himself up. mum and him childmind for us on the days I work. I think it all blew up as stepdad said I have raised children before. DH exploded at him, as he should be doing what we want, not what he wants. ho hum. sunday should be interesting!

vinorouge · 18/01/2008 11:55

Ho hum - bunny what a great expression !

Canofworms - it took me a minute to work out that you were canmummy.

Sorting things ready for moving next week. Done council tax, will do redirection for post later as post office opposite nursery, made sure we won;t be paying old and new mortgage in the same month, sent solicitor a copy of our marriage certificate, the list goes on.

Cos of travel to and from London for work earlier in week I've done my hours for this week so am gonna have lunch then get into bed for a nap. Feeling much better today just a bit weary. Car has gone in for mot and service so hoping its not too pricy but that meant a half hour wlak home in the rain from the garage and I'll have to get there again this afternoon. Hopefully the garage will ring me so that it allows me to get the bus there. There is a bus that goes there but only once an hour.....I feel lazy even thinking about getting the bus but I'm so tired and pelvis starting to ache after walking that I have to let myself slow down a bit.

Oooh just remembered I could ring BT and arraneg transfer of phone in advance. Hope I can keep same number

UD - sorry you are struggling to settle in. Am sure if you can make it to a group of some sort you will get chatting to someone. What are your neighbours like?

Wilkie - hope your ear sorts itself out.

bunnyhunny · 18/01/2008 12:51

vino - it kind of sums everything up doesnt it - ho hum
what a busy day you have! don't even you in the slightest.

what was I thinking? I just made cous cous for sauls lunch - trying to be a bit more imaginative than pasta or potato. It is EVERYWHERE now - just spend 10 mins hoovering the high chair...

I have rearranged the weekend so all the grandparents are over tomorrow. Hmm, think me and dh might have to do a runner and leave them all looking after s

bunnyhunny · 18/01/2008 12:52

envy, not even!

katwith3kittens · 18/01/2008 14:33

Cous cous is like pine needles .... it gets everywhere and you still find it days later. Tastes nicer tho.

My high chair has had it. DS2 has pulled the back vinyl off it exposing all the sponge. It looks a right mess. It has done its job though, it was 10 years old

Do I buy a new one .... or just manage ?

katwith3kittens · 18/01/2008 14:34

Oh ... and happy birthday Max !

Lizzzombie · 18/01/2008 14:35

poo & wee mixed together.
I had applied for a job as a retail NVQ assessor and reckoned I had plenty of skills which could be transferable. But apparently not. Apparently, 4 years at uni, 10 years working in a mix of customer service roles and admin positions counts for nothing. Why did I even bother. I may as well just work at Tescos. At least I can sit down at the checkout and not bust my arse after people like at the moment.
Sigh. I just want a well paid job in which I can use my head a bit but work PT in. Think I need to pull my finger out and contact all the local agencies...
moving on.....
I am having a major energy slump this afternoon. I just want to curl up and go to sleep. Think I overloaded on carbs at lunchtime. Need a strong coffee and I'll be ok again.

I am soooooooooooo bored of being a SAHM today. Am going mental.
