The patum looks fab. Is it easy to put the baby on your back in it with out help?

Pixiefish · 18/04/2008 21:48

I didn't have any problems with the Ergo. Put the sling on adn then sit her in it on your hip and then twist her round. Most of them come with instructions

Hi everyone!

Febes - wow, great stuff re the house!

Everyone else - dont get me started on carriers! I'm not even going to look because i hardly use my three that i have anyway!!

I had DD weighed today and at 19 weeks, she still only weighs 12lb 10oz She's now dropped down just below the 9th centile line and the HV said to bring her back next week to see how she gets on. She mentioned top ups but shrugged it off saying that we'd see how she went.

Anyway, tonight i thought i would try it and gave her a bottle of formula. An hour later she had a bath and a massage and i noticed how full her tummy was still! It's always been very slender normally and i can always feel her ribs too, which is a slight worry for me (dont know if this is normal or not). It felt nice to see her tummy NOT going concave for a change when she was laying down! So about an hour or so later, i gave her a BF to top her up, which she took for about 10 minutes. She more or less fell asleep in my arms instantly and we haven't had a peep out of her all night!

Feels like i've been starving her all this time because she's always been a fussy feeder so perhaps she just hasn't been getting enough milk out.....

Not sure whether to continue with the formula every night now or whether to just wait and see what the HV says next Friday.

Awww RG, Callum is almost 7 months old and weighes 12lb 8oz, and wears 0-3 months clothes. you can imagine the looks I get when I say he is 7 months old. He looks so small and people think he is a lot lot younger.
Looks like we have a lot of small babies on this thread

Pixiefish · 19/04/2008 08:49

3 weeks ago at 5 months S was only 12lb 6oz

SparklyGothKat · 19/04/2008 11:08

Callum is now below the 9th percentile and heading back towards the 0.4th, but I know now he is supposed to be small.

Pixiefish · 19/04/2008 18:56

RG- I've just added a post about centiles on my breastfeeding blog if you want a look- it's here

sarahloumadam · 19/04/2008 19:12

Hi everyone!

Had my first night out last night!! It was shite !! Said to the DH, we could be at home watching Prison Break and eating stuff. It was my DH's work do and it was a race night where you bet on pre-recorded races, I am a rubbish gambler. Anyway, Adam didn't stir once for his Grandma and I feel like I have overcome a hurdle and we can now look forward to a few more nights out, hopefully more successful than this one. Friends coming down tonight so I am really looking forward to that.
Otherwise nothing to report, have a good weekend everyone. x

RGPargy · 19/04/2008 19:51

Thanx pixie, interesting stuff. Am having a bad day today. DD fed ok at 1am and again at 6.45am but since then she's been very very fussy on the boob and has been feeding 2 hourly because she's obviously still hungry. This has all happened since she had the bottle of formula last night. Seems like she's only getting a good belly full when she hasn't fed from me for a good few hours, when my boobs are fuller. As my boobs never feel very full, i do wonder if my supply is low......

OP posts:
Pixiefish · 19/04/2008 20:28

try some fenugreek and milk thistle. Also she is probably going through a growth spurt- that is typical behaviour

RGPargy · 19/04/2008 21:40

It doesn't seem like she's getting anything tho pixie. She was whinging even while on the breast!

OP posts:
Pixiefish · 19/04/2008 22:26

If she's going through a growth spurt she'll be sucking you dry- pardon the language- and you're body won't have caught up with her demand yet.

Try the Fenugreek, Fennel tea and/or Milk Thistle- I use all of those. Fenugreek- 3 tablets 3 times a day.

If you're still having problems then try to get to see someone that can help you. I've posted links to lactation consultants- they're better trained to deal with problems than counsellors

RGPargy · 19/04/2008 23:24

Thanx Pixie.

I had to send DP out for formula in the end because DD was hungry and was deffo not going to bed on an empty tummy!

Help or hindrance, i dont know. I'm fed up with beating myself up about it now. Hopefully she'll feed well from me tonight when she wakes up and again in the morning. Tomorrow is another day and we'll take it from there. I'll look into the supplements tho, deffo. Thanx for the info on them.

OP posts:
Pixiefish · 20/04/2008 08:35

I give Swyn 2 bottles a day but if she's particularly fussy and hungry adn not getting it from me then she gets 3 bottles that day. I try not to let her have 3 the day after though although sometimes it's hard when she's screaming hungry and I know I haven't got any milk.

Could you stay in bed today RG? Just have a feeding day and see if that increases your supply?

At the end of the day you have to do what is right for you and your baby. Mixed feeding works for lots of people.

Pixiefish · 20/04/2008 08:35

I also hae to say that you've done 6 months- my aim was always to get to 6 months so don't feel too bad if you change her to formula now

RGPargy · 20/04/2008 09:33

It's reassuring to know that you and alot of other people are mixed feeding too. Not really practical to stay in bed i'm afraid - she'd get so bored!

She woke up at 1.45am and again at 7.30am and fed from me reasonably well both times. I'm going to try and make her last 4 hours between feeds so that she will be very hungry and will feed well again and also so that my supply will build up a little more. If it works, it works, if it doesn't then oh well, i'll give her formula.

Haven't quite reached six months tho - she's 19.5 weeks so we're about 5 weeks away. But nevertheless lots of people give up waaaaay before now so i think in any event i've done well!

Hey all

Long time no see - good grief i have just had to spend an hour catching up with everyone !!!

well......have just had very busy half term, poor DS1 has had bad coughing / cold virus and was really quite poorly (and v v whingey with it) so things have been quite fraught, but have still managed to get out and about, and mum sat for Ollie on Friday and i took DS1 to Thorpe Park to meet up with his cousins, and altho' it was bloody freezing i had a lovely time with DS1.

Ollie is doing well, i am not BF at all during day now, he is on 3 meals a day. I am still BF him before bed, and he is still waking for 10/11 pm ish feed and then once again during the wee hours for BF. But he has been soaking thru nappy and suit which makes me think he is not really needing BF it is just habbit, i had a word with HV and she said that is is nearly 6 months it is fine to start trying to give him a wider range of food ( he has since had home made chicken soup and turkey casserole which he loves) HE still refuses bottle but drinks water fine from doidy cup.

Problem is..... how do i stop BF at night, as BF seems to be the only thing that settles him back to sleep. HE still refuses bottle so not able offer that instead. Any advice from anyone ????

Since stopping BF during day i have noticed that i am not stuffing my face with choc and bics, have also lost a coupel of pounds, but like other girls on thread have noticed that my hair is getting quite greasy , and i do wash it every other day

anyhoo as for your news, in no particular order

SAralou - Have been having regular periods since DS was 6 weeks, so am going to have IUS fitted (looks and is fitted like coil but relases hormone) Bit nervous as have never had one before and have two friends who hadn't had them fitted properly and only found out after two year scan !

Pixie - your friend has 7 kids OMG [shcok]

RG - good luck with weaning, and well done for holding out for so long

LMB- Ollie is now weaned during day and it has made absolutley no difference to his waking at night either - is there a magic 6 month stage where developementally they just start sleeping thru ?

Loopy - hope you have fully recovered from mastitis, that must have been horrible, and my guilty secret shhhhhhhhh...we have always put ollie to sleep on his tummy cos he would never settle on his back. Only now is the horrible paranoid guilt starting to go

Febes - congrats on selling the house, we have had ours on now for 6 weeks, we have had lots of viewing but no offers, not even a cheeky one

As for entertaning baby - Ollie is such an alert active little thing, he spends his day between baby ring/nest, door bouncer, bumbo, my lap and then all over again, quite cute now tho' as he is loving attention from his big bro' (when its nice attention IYKWIM)

battling with desire to have sunday morning bacon sarnie....enjoy the rest of you weekends
Lx

Hi everyone

Lizzie - long time no see!

Ellie and I have had a very good day so far. Things appear to be back on track and DD is feeding well every three hours. Fingers crossed that it will continue!

OP posts:
Pixiefish · 20/04/2008 18:38

Hope so Rg xx

ChocolateHobnob · 20/04/2008 20:14

RG, glad things are going better today! I think you should go with the flow, relax, and it'll all work. You're doing sooooo well. Hugs from me!

Lizzie, good luck with the IUS - had never heard of it before! I am glad that stopping bf might stop me scoffing cake - I am addicted at the mo! Oh well.

Sarah, shame was a crap night out!!

My i-candy cherry arrived - it's fab - so light to push. I have to say it isnt that sturdy but it's fine for what I need it for -walking round town! And rear or front facing to boot.

DH's birthday tomorrow so we're having a carpet picnic - gone are the days of nice restaurants...

hope you're all okay!

RGPargy · 20/04/2008 20:57

Thanx Pixie, thanx Choc

DD had another bottle of formula tonight, given by DP while i went to the vets to pick up the cat (he's been in the vet all bloody weekend with a pee pipe problem) and she drank the whole 7oz carton!!! She normally has just over 5oz so i certainly didn't expect her to have the whole lot! Clever girl! Might have a pump later to compensate for the feed that i didn't give but i'm not going to worry if i dont get anything out.

Have a nice evening everyone! I'm off to watch my cat doing his comedy walk after having an anaesthetic and a catheta in all weekend lol.

OP posts:
notdoinghousework · 20/04/2008 22:20

((hugs)) RGP, must be really tough, but you have done brilliantly to get this far, glad you have had a better day, hope the cat is okay too. Isla feeds so much she's always being sick, putting on weight fine, so must be over eating, the amount of washing that girl creates, can quite happily get through 4 outfits before 9am! Some of her 3-6 clothes are now getting a bit tight, so got some new things at the weekend, can't believe they don't even look that big on. I'm really small, think that my little girl is going to be tall like her dad.
Lizzie no advice on breaking the nighttime habit, but if you get any pass it on, I've been up 4 times a night for the last 3 nights, we did a few months ago get to the point when she was sleeping 8 hours but it didn't last, dh has given up and is sleeping on the sofa bed, he seems constantly tired, which pees me off because I'm the one getting up every bloody night!

Hope that you had a good time with your friends slm, I've had a couple of nights out with girl friends which has been fab, dh and I still haven't been out together, keep saying when dd is sleeping better, not sure when that will be though!
Loopy the carrier looks lush!
Anyway must go to bed, isla will be awake again soon!

notdoinghousework · 20/04/2008 22:22

Oh forgot to change my name back sorry (islamum) Not sure I like islamum anymore, have to think about it
