Hi Islamum/notdoinghousework

Out of interest, is Isla BF or FF? If she's getting you up 4 times a night, my guess is that she's BF? It's funny how some babies are sicky and some aren't. I suppose i'm lucky that Ellie is hardly EVER sick - EVER!!

The cat is still acting funny. All drunk-like on wobbly legs, bless him. He cant leave me alone and just keeps nuzzling up to me. He's been at the vets since Friday night and i think he's really missed me!

As for your name, i reckon you should have a name that relates to YOU, rather than the fact that you are a mum. After all, you are still a person, even if you do feel like a feeding machine!

Hi all, Callum has a hearing check tomorrow as he failed one of the checks he had done in SCBU. I am sure that his hearing is fine tho. I can't believe he is 7 months old this week where has the time gone??

islamum · 20/04/2008 23:16

She is bf, though we did at one point start giving her formula as her last feed of the day, didn't seem to make much difference but maybe try again
You are right about name, feel that being a mum is the thing that defines me at the moment, more than anything, is certainly the most life changing thing I've ever done, and really the thing I am most proud of, so maybe at the moment it should stay, I figure eventually I will return to the other things that defined me before, determind not to loose myself in motherhood, one to ponder.
Hope all is well tomorrow SGK
I must go to bed!

Febes · 21/04/2008 14:29

Hi everyone I'm posting from work . Should be working but nevermind. Anabel has had 5 oz at her first bottle EBM so DH tells me so she is fine without me. Such a good girl!!! We are very lucky to have such a chilled baby. I also mangaged to express fine 8 ozs while at work today. Not bad as I've had 2 weeks off and not even thought about expressing and was worried I wouldn't get much out.

Islamum- Isla is such a beautiful name is the s silent like the actress who used to be on Home and away?? Its quite unusual -love it! I feel like a mum first and foremost. I'm quite surprised by the overwelmingly strong love I have for DD. People tell you but its not till you have them that you realise you can feel this way.

RG- you sound like you are doing a great job with Ellie. Lots of people I know mix feed. Sounds like a good compromise.

SGK- Hope callums hearing thing goes ok. When is you DS1 op? Have you found out about the arrangements for callum yet?

Pixie- Your blog is amazing. I have passed it on to a few friends in my antenatal group-hope thats ok- I didn't realise that that could happen particularly when you had such a positive BF experience last time.

Well girls must get on and do something. We have had the internet disconnected at home so I'll check on again at work tomorrow.

Hi all i've been away for a bit, but a constant lurker!

Coby has had D&v over the weekend but seems to be much better today. He's costing me a fortune in nappies 5-6 poos a day.

He seems huge now 18lb 5oz he has followed the 75th centile for ages now even though he was born on the 25th. He's such a guzzler so not surprised. i've eased off the weaning because of the stomach upset. he's 6 months in a couple of weeks.

We brought a new printer over the weekend so i've been filling the photo album and it's amazing to see how much he's changed from a newborn. He really has a look of his dad about him and i can imagine what he'll look like as a child now.

I really admire all the mums that have gone back to work. I'm still tired most of the time i don't think i'd cope well. Although it must be lovley to be a grown up around other grown ups who don't just talk about their babies!

Pixiefish · 21/04/2008 20:41

not a problem Febes- that's what i did it for

Hi everyone.

Another good day today in Chateau RG. DD did fuss a little, as in she didn't really feed that long per feed, but i didn't get stressed about it and just thought "oh well, you'll let me know if you're hungry again!" and left it at that.

She has downed another 7oz feed again tonight. At what point do you know if you should move onto the hungry baby stuff?

I joined Weight Witches today and thankfully their scales said i'm 2lb lighter than mine so that's ok! I've got a massive 37 points to play with but managed to go over by 2 points, all thanx to that naughty brown stuff that goes by the name of chocolate. MUST RESIST! MUST RESIST!!

Good luck with Callum's hearing test. I'm sure everything will be fine.

Febes - hope you had a good day at work!

Off to bed soon. I think i need an early night in preparation for my Wednesday ladies coming to me for lunch tomorrow. One of them cant make it Weds so we're doing it tomoz instead.

Have a good night, all!

SparklyGothKat · 21/04/2008 22:23

helloooooo

Callum's hearing is fine!! they said he was a fraud and didn't need to be there lol!! and he has better hearing than the doctor pmsl!!

recieved a letter today from the consultant who thinks we need to increase his solids to increase his weight f* that, callum is happy and healthly, am not got to make him obese to make them happy

Pixiefish · 22/04/2008 07:38

Hungry baby formula is- according to others on here- designed to get baby to 6 months from 4 if they're hungry so that you can stave off weaning. I'd leave her on what she's on

RGPargy · 22/04/2008 09:24

Sparkly - knew it would be ok! Clever boy!

Pixie - Ah ok, thanx for that. Will leave her be then.

It's been a few days since I posted, though I've been reading when I can.

I started back at work yesterday which was very strange. Nice to be back - and one of my classes cheered when they saw me which was lovely! But also strange to be leaving William for a whole day. He is not taking his bottles well at nursery - took 3oz yesterday and just 2 today, which eventually they gave him from a cup as he just wasn't having any of it! So we're now thinking about getting a cup for him instead. Any other ideas also welcome! Needless to say he had loads just now from me, and I expressed 8oz while I fed him Had to express at home as the H and S person at work hasn't organised me a suitable room to express in yet

RG - Sounds like Ellie is doing ok with the mixed feeding. Has she tried any more solids?

Sparkly - gald the hearing test went well. Mum's know their kids best don't they - not consultants!

Loopy - 7 kids OMG, think I would go loopy myself!

LizzieO - I'm still bf at night too. I've decided I'm not going to try to stop him from having any - especially if he doesn't have any on nursery days!! - and just hope he grows out of it. I think once he's on solids he won't be as bothered, at least that's what I hope! I have to say I don't mind it too much because it's not as faffy as a bottle at night - I can practically do it with my eyes closed, having said that, I am knackered on my work days!!

wonderstuff · 22/04/2008 21:33

Hi all typig one handed as isla is feeding, she is now waking 2 hours aftre i put her down - nightmare, was actually quite optimistic about her having a decent sleep tonight, she had masses of baby porrige and a long boobie feed and calpol cos worried teething wakibng her but no right on que 2 hours after being put down.
Sparky glad hearing test went well, I would be t about solids, milk has more calories than most weaning food according to kellymom?

7 kids wow loopy ur brave, good luck with bottle

isla back asleep now, may be back at 11.30?
ps like new name?

RGPargy · 22/04/2008 21:38

Hi everyone

DD seems to be thriving on her mixed feeding. I dont know if it's because i've become very relaxed about whether I BF or not and therefore the lack of stress is making her happy now, or whether she's really enjoying her nightly formula, but DD has become a very very smiley happy baby!

Loopy - 7 kids???!!! Blimey it's bad enough when we get together with our lunch ladies and there's 2 babies and 2 toddlers! Good luck with the bottle - let us know how you get on.

Jet - Shame William isn't taking his bottles well. It's probably just that he's got a lot of distractions or something, eh? at your H&S people!

I'm feeling quite sad tonight. DP and I had a chat about our (very dire) finances and thought it best that i go back to work full time for a few months until we are straight again. I'll phone work tomorrow and tell them that for the first week i will go back to work for 2 days a week and then after that (and providing MIL agrees to look after DD) i will go back full time. I really really DONT want to but we dont have much choice atm. DP is very stressed at our lack of money at the moment so it's only fair really, especially as we can get straight financially in about 3 or 4 months.

RG, glad Elie is a happy baby at the mo. Sorry about the work situation - when are you going back? hopefully FT will be for a short period only...

Loopy, did she take the bottle? Mine won't...

Jet, hope work is going okay.

Wonderstuff, cool new name! did Isla go back to sleep? I love her name, btw.

Anyone heard from Silk? Hope you're okay Silk if you're reading. And JARM!

Everything is fine here. Off to lunch with friends today and then baby group. And tomorrow off to the beach! Hmm; it was positively hot yesterday but seems cold again today.

Hope you're all okay.

RGPargy · 23/04/2008 08:49

Hi Choc

Planning on going back to work at the beginning of August for 2 days a week for the first month and then from September it'll be full time.

Haven't heard from Silk in a long while, or JARM!! I'm sure they are both well. I saw Jarm on Facebook the other day and i think she is well and busy being a working mum.

Hi everyone. Nearly finished work for the week. Thank goodness. I get a bit stressed and moan at DH and hate myself for it. I'm really tired though and DD woke at 4 this morning and I tried to ignore her but her kept making noises for half an hour so I was well and truely woken up and fed her and then got back into a deep sleep so felt very groggy this morning.
I feel very disorientated at work. I have no set role or responsibility. I'm a bit bored but don't want to make a big deal about it as I've only just gone back and I worry that if I ask for more to do I will end up overloaded. I just feel I'm wasting my time at the moment though.

I just want to have another baby so I can have another maternity leave!! I probably won't go back next time either which will be nice. I actually wonder if I am pregnant as I am feeling completely exhasted and emotional and snappy at DH. We have only had 1 unprotected reations so it will be a surprise if I am. I'm probably just tired from work though.

Hope you are all ok.

RGPargy · 23/04/2008 14:39

Loopy - hmmm 4 days might be doable. I'd have to check with HR and see what my salary would be, but it's deffo an option. I dont think i could do 5 days hours over 4 days because on a normal day i would be getting home at 6.45pm so to make my day longer wouldn't be doable or I'd never see DD!

Febes - poor you feeling like a spare part. I know what you mean. I spent practically the whole time from when i announced i was pg to when i actually left doing virtually nothing all day except coming on MN and walking round chatting to the girls! It was nice but i'd much rather have been at home with my feet up watching Jezza lol. Perhaps they are just easing you in. See how it goes for a good couple of months and then speak to them if nothing changes.

OP posts:
wonderstuff · 23/04/2008 20:36

Choclate she went back to sleep but soon woke up again, she seems to have no problem getting to sleep, just staying asleep is the prob! I actually thought she'd done quite well and slept till 4am, turns out I was looking at my watch wrong and it was only 12.20!! Been up once already tonight! Started baby massage, thought that might help but doesn't appear to have (repeat to self, just a stage, she will sleep one day)
RG Great that DD is happy with feeding, shame that you have to go back to work, I'm meeting a childminder on Friday, need to do supply teaching to get us through the summer hols, savings looking sad
Loopy have you tried a cup? Isla loves having a sip of water out of my cup, seems to prefer it to the bottle at the moment.

sarahloumadam · 23/04/2008 21:15

Hello
RG - glad you and Ellie are happy with her new feeding regime. re work situation, hope you can work something out so that you don't have to go in every day. Did you say that it would only be a temporary thing anyway?

LizzieO - it was the hormonal coil that I had fitted, it was fine just a bit undignified but you would think I would be used to that by now, having had a baby. re you friends tho!

Loopy/Choc - my DS is also a member of the bottle-refuser crew! Going to try him with a cup soon, think his hand/eye co-ordination is just about ready but he does like giving everything a good shake and bang so can imagine that my milk will end up everywhere.

Wonderstuff - cool name, were you a fan of the band or are you just bigging yourself up?!

Well I actually got out in the garden and mowed the lawn yesterday. DH did it the first time and made such a song and dance about it and it was easy-peasey! Went to Jack in the Box today but think Adam finds it all a bit frantic because he starts to squawk then calms down the instant we leave! He just likes to chill. Went to mother and baby yoga the other day and when it was his turn to do some stretches he looked at his watch and asked for a feed . V.sensible.

Have a good evening and lots of zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz everyone x

LizzieO · 24/04/2008 09:49

Hey all

hope your all doing well, i got extemely excited as Ollie slept from 7.00 to 6.ish for tweo nights (with his usual dream feed)
however last night he was up at 1.30 so i BF him, i mean i don't really mind cos i'm hoping that he will grow out of it, but he is getting on for 6 months now, and eating plenty during dsy which makes me think its a habit that needs breaking

He also refuses bottle, and formula - but will happily guzzle water from his doidy cup

RG - at your having to go back to work, you might enjoy it though after being SAHM and at least its not permanent

have decided to go on Atkins diet though will need to wait till LO has completely stopped BF,have already cut out on sweets, bread, cake and crisps and its making me feel quite out of sorts, but i have 2 stone to lose and i am now completely sick of being so big. I did Atkins after DS1 and lost a stone and a half within about 7 weeks

big respect to all you working mums, you must be knackered having to work, and still have broken sleep etc

seems to be a lot of teachers on MN is that a conidendence ?
