I couldn't find a postnatal thread - not sure if I am just missing it with post-childbirth brain! Anyone else around??

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Stefka · 16/11/2007 12:17

Hi all - the end of another week!

My last three feeds were awful - so painful I cried all the way through them then cried after because of the pain and because I feel so unhappy about it all. I am considering getting a really expensive pump and seeing how long I can express and bottle feed him EBM for. I don't know if that would work or not.

alicet · 16/11/2007 12:36

Stefka and muppet sorry you are both struggling. Think you are both doing great and you should be really proud of yourselves.

Stefka - I shouldn't have thought bf should still be as painful as this this far down the line. I think you have seen bf counsellors and NCT but if I was you and wanted to continue as much as you do I would call them again. Don't worry about being a pain - its what they are there for. Good luck xxx

Well we have had a fun morning trying to finish off the blackout blind for Sam's new room. We are going to move him on tues when mum dad and sis leave. Adam isn't moving out of our room yet but it will mean we have a room we can take him to at night to feed him then whoever is not doing the feed will get a proper break. Currently even though dh or my sis have been doing the late feeds (so like you muppet I can get a decent stretch) I don't really get proper rest as I can hear what they're doing.

Anyway off to have lunch now. Planning to go to pizza express with the boys tonight so might not be about until tomorrow.... Thinking of you all x

muppetgirl · 16/11/2007 12:36

Hi Stefka

I wouldn't recommend the avent hand pump as 1st time round I found it tempromental and this time round it's still the same. (Which is a shame as I LOVE all of avents products) However, dh came home the other day with an electric avent pump and thios works a dream. The first time I didn;t get much off but the second time I did. - 5 ozs from both sides which isn't bad for a 2nd attempt. I think expressing then bottle feeding is perfectly do-able even if you just do it for a while whilst your nips are recovering...

TheLadyEvenstar · 16/11/2007 13:37

Stefka, I am selling an electric breast pump. I never used it as I switched to ff before it got delivered!!!! it is Brand new in box still.

will post pictures on my picture trail and put link here for you.

ejt1764 · 16/11/2007 13:54

stefka - get an electric breast pump ... mine has been a godsend!

am thinking of you ... big hugs coming your way!

muppet - well done on the public bf

waving to everybody else - Mairwen has slept now almost all day - except for the short period when I woke her up to feed her ... my boobs are going to explode!!

Think I may go and express a little ... that should mean she wakes up!

Stefka · 16/11/2007 16:07

which one do you have ejt?

greedygreedyguzzler · 16/11/2007 16:20

alice - my ds was only 17 months when dd1 was born and i think after the first couple of weeks i used to put them in together. she had one of those towelling sling things for a bit of extra safety. like you say you can always whip them out quick. my ds wasn't too boisterous then though so it was ok.

we had sex last week aqnd it was great, but then i didn't tear this time so i healed a lot quicker.

my little marcy has somehow managed to put on 1 lb 5 oz this week .............she is going to be another greedygreedy guzzler like my other two! she now weighs 11lb 9oz and is 5 wks.

all of you struggling with BF i think you are great for perservering! i gave up after 2 days this time and last time and only managed 3 weeks first time! so well done!

going to add myself to the roll call............

greedygreedyguzzler · 16/11/2007 16:22

i was talking about bathing them alice, in case you didnt have a clue what i was on about!!

inzi - have replied on your other thread - but be reassured that the tearfulness, sheer exhaustion, and general crappiness are normal for this point after a C Section - it will get better, I promise!!

Stefka - I have a medela mini pump - it cost about £50 - worth its weight in gold!

ShinyHappyPeopleHoldingHands · 16/11/2007 17:54

I'm sorry... I've got to ask... why golden piglets????!!!

Just tell me and I'll go away...

alicet · 16/11/2007 20:11

SHPHH - think it came from them being born in the chinese year of the pig originially then became theme for threads? But one of the earlier Oct gals correct me if I'm wrong!

Inzi - I've replied on your other thread too but second ejt that how you are feeling is very normal. I had been wondering too - I expect its a highly emotional time for you having finally got your little girl after losing your last dd so tragically at 27 weeks. Although I'm sure in some ways Jane's birth will help you to move forward I expect also it reminds you of the little girl who didn't make it. Sending you massive hugs honey - you are doing great. Look after yourself and your lo - thats all that matters right now. And accept ALL help as offered.

Thanks greedy for the tips! And I had twigged you were talking about bathing!!! Impressed you had sex this soon after a vaginal delivery too!

Stefka I had the avent isis uno breast pump whichis expensve at £85 but worth every penny. Haven't used it much this time but used it loads last time. Also wanted to say don't beat yourself up over not making it out yet - I think most of the mums on this thread who are out and about are second timers or later and it IS easier the next time. This isn't a competition - take your time honey and go when YOU'RE ready and not because you feel presurised by what others are doing x

Hello everyone else. We didn't make it to pizza express as my dad isn't feeling too great (a bit flu like) so mum is at the chippy!

TheLadyEvenstar · 16/11/2007 20:32

stefka I have posted photos of breast pump (electric) on my picture trail page..... if you are interested let me know.

Hi all

It's been a long time, and I haven't had time to catch up properly - just managed today's posts. I've been focussing on RL - hard not to with a LO around. Huw is doing well. We're all besotted. His big sister wants to take him to school with her. I discovered I have a neighbour with a baby a week younger than Huw. The midwives gave her my number, and she came round to visit today. She's lovely. It's nice to have someone nearby with a small baby, I was beginning to feel a bit isolated. Have been going out a bit more, though, and seeing more people. Went to 'BF clinic' this week as v sore left nipple. Was given more advice about latching on, but basically we're doing it right (so why does it hurt so much sometimes?). I find Ibuprofen works a treat at deadening the pain. As do a couple of glasse of wine!

Inzi - so sorry to hear how low you're feeling. These first weeks are so hard, and you've had it worse than many. Hope your parents and your new regime help you on the way up again. Thinking of you ((((((hugs))))))

Muppet - well done on the public feeding. I've crossed that hurdle now too. Found it more challenging than I expected but fine once we got settled down.

I want to change my name on here - don't know why I chose Apricott and don't like it any more. Haven't decided what to change to though...

I'm interested to read about breast pumps - I'm thinking of making the investment. Seems electric pumps are worth the extra cost.

I hear strange baby noises (god, he makes odd noises!) so might have to go soon. Will add self to new stats.

Love to you all. I take my hat off to those ofyou who're still managing to engage properly on here - I can't seem to find thetime at the moment.

Take care,

Alison x

Rough day today as mum couldnt come to my house to baby sit while I was teaching as my brother had a minor operation yesterday and cant be left for the next 48 hrs, so I had to take Alex to stay with her for the afternoon...why it should have been so difficult I dont know, she looks after him at our house three afternoons a week,... but I cried all the way home and fretted about him all the time I was teaching.
Oh dear he is stirring for his midnight feed early...i had better go
Hope all of you are holding up ok

Hi all

typing with one hand cos Rebecca won't stay asleep in her Moses basket...

thanks for the congratulations!

Here is my birth story... I went to be induced at 41+6 on Tuesday. I was examined first and cervix was nearly there - they said they could just about have broken my waters but preferred to use prostin first. So I had the pessary inserted at 3.15 pm and was monitored for an hour (all fine) then allowed to go wandering around the hospital (or stay put, but no way was I doing that!!!) so I did. As I was walking my back started to ache and period cramps came on; I kept marching until I needed pain relief so returned to the induction suite and got a birthing ball and bounced, then had a bath. Didnt think I was in labour cos it hurt but not that badly... was examined and was 4cm, and ggiven gas and air, and kept going, but there was a problem with the foetal heart rate. A team of consultants arrived (well, three) and announced that 'we have to deliver the baby now', then there was a really mad dash to theatre in true Holby City style where the poor woman about to have a section was made to leave so they could get Rebecca out instead. When she arrived she yelled; I was si relieved!! Consultant in charge explained to me then that the heart rate had indicated that the baby had been in serious danger and that I had been about to go under general anaesthetic but they had maaged with the spinal. Turns out Rebecca had the cord wrapped tightly twice around her neck... afterwards the team who had done the work sat with me and told me they had been extremely worried about timing but that there was nothing whatsoever wrong with Rebecca apart from the cord.
It was far from the originally imagined water birth but it was still magic. Rebecca is beautiful and precious and the team who delivered her were fantastic.

Now... struggling with bfeeding and sleepless nights (literally) but I have my gorgeous little girl. DH is so smitten too....

Alice, thanks for texts and would love to see you soon! Rebecca will love meeting a potential future boyfriend...!!!

Hugs to everyone else!
