Hi all!

Disappeared for a while due to tiredness, kitchen fitters and tricky three year olds!

Me- I'm still stupidly tired and very puffy so much that we were over at friends last night and I asked my friends hubby to cut my wedding ring off as it was hurting. I couldn't even straighten my fingers yesterday morning and after spending the morning at my neighbours house where she made me put my finger in ice cold water and then using fairy liquid to try to ease it - but nothing! (Finger bloody hurt though!) Am going to ring mw on mon as I'm a little concerened as i still seem to be getting more puffy rather than settling like the stay puff woman!

Kitchen -Looks fab, units are now in and floor is to be done this tues coming. They are going to level the floor so I'm not sure how that's going to work with the 2 dogs as they're doing the hall also. How will I get upstairs?? The worktop man came last fri and cut the templates so we'll get those in 2 weeks so we have hardboard over the cabintes so we can at least use the kitchen. Sink but no taps -no water, is still a bit of a pain though. We're still fighting about the colour but I think we've at least settled on green

3 year old - Still being a bit difficult. We're trying to cut down on telly (wish us luck!) as all he says when we're out is 'I want to go home and watch telly' which is driving us all mad to say the least.

My brother and his girlie left on Thur and I won't see them till next july which is very sad but it was lovely to have them.

How is Mrs Fish?
Anymore babies yet?
Speak later

popping back on so i don't lose you,

am due tommorrow and still nothing happening, hmph!!!

Mumpbump · 02/10/2007 20:54

Hello! Guess Alicet will have her lo by now! How are you doing, Lisa? Joseph is still sleeping loads, but managed a whole 2 hours awake this morning!! He's got a really bad cold though so was feeding every hour last night - reminder of how demanding it can be at times... Had ds at home yesterday which was lovely. He was really chilled out and went for his bath and to bed with no fuss which is unusual for him. It was a real contrast with this evening when he's been at nursery all day so am definitely coming around to the idea that nursery is stressful and wondering whether to ditch it whilst I'm at home altogether...

Hoping to see some other people in here, although only posting sporadically as I still seem to have loads to sort out!

and everyone else and lo's are ok too

ChocolateHobnob · 05/10/2007 08:01

Hi all

Never remember to look here and I should!

I last heard from Alicet on Weds. She and Adam were doing fine and her first DS was loving his little brother, so that's great. She was still in hospital but hoping to come out yesterday. I haven't heard since - I expect she's as busy as you all!

Good luck with all the los. Long way for me to go yet - trying not to be jealous.

alicet · 05/10/2007 11:26

Hello lovely ladies,

Have copied this from antenatal thread - good to be over this side though even factoring in the lack of sleep....

Well as Choc updated you Adam was born on 2nd Oct at 12.51pm weighing in at 7lb 14oz - much bigger than Sam who was 6lb 9oz! Got home yesterday and apart from the inevitable sleep deprivation (Adam wanted to feed every hour last night....) doing great. The elective section was so so much easier to recover from than the emergency one last time - would have been home the day after if it wasn't for wanting to make sure I got the breast feeding right (he wasn't so great at latching on to start with).

The section itself was so much more relaxing and moving than I expected away from all the associated anxiety about how Sam was and how terrified I was of being on the opposite end of the knife than I was used to last time. This time it was really relaxing, they lowered the screen and raised my head so I could see Adam being born which was incredibly moving. And handed him straight to me for skin to skin. Just wonderful.

Sitting in the sitting room at home feeling great despite about 2 hours sleep with savoy cabbage leaves in my bra and boobs like Jordan waiting for the mw!

Have posted pics on my profile - be warned there is one of him being born so the squeamish might scan this quickly but there are not incisions or scalpels visible - I think its amazing but appreciate wouldn't be for everyone....

alicet · 05/10/2007 11:28

Hope the rest of you are doing well. Good to see Mump, ejt and lisa here and also good to see inzi choc and J20 popping in to say hello!

I'll still pop in to the antenatal thread too as don't want to lose touch - those who haven't yet popped let me know if this is irritating when you're all getting frustrated waiting!

ejt1764 · 05/10/2007 11:56

Afternoon all ... Apologies in advance for cross-posting this, but dh has Mairwen all cuddled in to him, allowing me 5 minutes to come and tell you all about it!

Well, as you know I had acupuncture on Saturday afternoon (seems like another dimension), then when I came home, the period cramps got stronger, and more unpleasant, and I was running back and for to the loo all the time.
Took some paracetemol then went to bed with the TENS machine on, woke at 10.30ish and had a show - got very excited!! Went back to bed, and woke at 11.20 to a gush of pink liquid - panicked a bit as I thought I was bleeding, so phoned the hospital, and they told me it was probably just more of the show. 11.45, I had another gush, and started getting BIG contractions, so phoned them again, and they told me to go in.

By the time we arrived the contractions were rolling in every 2 minutes or so, and when I was examined I was already 5 cm dliated. I'd asked if the pool was free the minute I walked in through the door, and was told that some interest had been shown in it, but I was quite forceful about wanting it ... and as the cosultant had written about water on my notes, I was taken to the pool room. At the 1st examination, I was told that baby was back-to-back, so getting in the water was just magic!

After a while, the contracctions were really hurting my back, and I got the urge to push. Wonderful midwife told me that this was probably because of position of baby, and that I'd need to breathe through them for the time being. I had the good old gas and air, to take the urge off the need to push.

At about 4am, the midwife suggested that she examine me, although it wasn't really time, as I was having real problems blowing through the urge to push, so I got out of the water, and she examined me, to find that the baby was in fact already on her way down the birth canal!

I got back in the water, and started pushing, midwife was fabulous, quite firm with me, but not at all in my face. Eventually, it got to 5.30am, and as I had had a previous section, and was getting quite tired, she suggested I get out of the water, and we would assess whether I needed to go upstairs to the CLU.

The thought of not getting my natural vbac, and the walk from the pool to the mattress seems to have given me a 2nd wind, as I got down onto all fours and pushed the baby out 10 minutes later.

I tore quite badly (wonderful midwife sewed me up beautifully!), and also needed a managed 3rd stage as I was getting to the edge of the bleeding being classed as a pph, so consented to the injection.

Mairwen fed before we left the delivery room, then we went back to the original room we had come from where we had a wonderfully unhassled period of skin-to-skin, and got to know our new baby.

That was Monday - we came home later on Monday afternoon, and have been getting to know our daughter. I've had some difficulty establishing breastfeeding, but have been superbly supported by the midwives and breastfeeding cousellors at the hospital, and I think we're getting there.

I've laid a lot of demons to rest in the past couple of days!!

love to everybody ... will be back on when I can sit for longer than a few minutes at a time - coccyx pain and stitches do not make for comfortable sitting!

ejt1764 · 05/10/2007 12:47

have just posted some new pictures on my profile!

alicet · 05/10/2007 15:46

Congratulations ejt. Really really chuffed for you that you did it your way this time - sounds as though you couldn't have planned it better and you had fantastic support.

I too have had problems with the bf this time round - Adam wouoldn't latch on properly to start with and at the moment we're wrestling with hourly feeds through the night meaning I'm totally exhauste. And have boobs like Jordan!!! Poor Adam dozes off after a few minutes on them as they're so hot and engorged at the mo they send him to sleep!

Still, wouldn't be without my little boy although I'm somewhat daunted by the prospect of looking after 2 this weekend with dh - Sam has been at nursery this am so been eased into family time gently....

ejt1764 · 05/10/2007 18:23

It's bizarre isn't it - I just sort of assumed that because I'd bf ds until he was 8 months old that I'd have no problems ... in fact that was the problem - I was attempting to bf a much older baby - hence my positioning was crap - hence the skin on my nips completely broke down!

It didn't help that dd (feels odd writing that!) was feeding for up to 4 hours at a time [wince]

I ended up expressing and syringe feeding for 24 hours - thank goodness for a very supportive dh!

I've now been back feeding for 24 hours, and although it's still sore, it's defintely better.

Hope you get more sleep - good luck for this weekend - ds has been at school all week, so tomorrow will be the first day he's spent at home with us. dh and I were saying how we didn't know how anybody coped with toddlers as well ... have fun!

ejt1764 · 05/10/2007 18:24

Just popping in to say hi - good luck with the breastfeeding - oh I remember it well and am not looking forward to those early days again.

Your pictures of your LOs practically brought tears to my eyes - especially that one of Adam literally just born - think that sort of image is especially poignant when I can look down at my enormous bump and think 'that's what's in there'.

Looking forward to joining you all on here for real soon .

Hello ladies! Hope you're all doing well today. We haven't had the best of nights but actually finding the sleep deprivation of being a new mum so much easier to deal with than when I was pregnant - kind of feels like there is more of a point to it.

Sorry I have cut and pasted some of the next bit from the antenatal thread!

Well Sam yesterday was much more chilled and happy with Adam. Kept going an giving him little kisses and toys (sometimes not as gentle as he should be didn't hurt him!). Just seems really excited by him again today which is lovely to see. We are making sure we give him lots of hugs and fuss when Adam sleeps. We all went out to pizza express yesterday evening - Adam slept through it all and Sam was really good and seemed to enjoy himself. It is really helping that I'm not anywhere near as sore as I was last time - only 1 lot of painkillers yesterday and I probably didn't even really need them - as I don't worry about cuddling and playing with him. No lifting but other people can help with that. He's coming to me as much as dh too now which I knew would happen in the end but its great. Not looking forward to having to look after them both on my own but its manageable at the mo with dh here!

As for Adam - during the day he is a little diamond - eats really well, sleeps and is generally really placid and happy. But when the sun goes down he turns into relentless breastfeeding boy who can't seem to get enough to eat and won't settle. We were at it from 7.30 till gone 2.30 last night by which point he was totally frantic with tiredness. GAve in at one point and gave him some formula at about 12 - he had 3 oz (which is a normal feed for his age) and still wouldn't settle. Winding him and trying just to let him suck and cuddling him made zero diference - and each time I then fed him he fed like he hadn't for hours. Remember a few nights like this with Sam - fingers crossed will all get better with time... The plus side was that when he finally went to sleep (in bed with me) he slept for 4 hours, and then another 2 after his feed this am so actually not feeling too rough!

Today I have been expressing and then giving that to Adam so I can see he is having a decent feed and to give my nipples a break (yep not in great shape as you can imagine!). I think I am so engorged that most of the time he's not latching on properly which means he's not getting what he needs and my nipples are suffering too. Plus my breasts are being told to make even more milk!

Loving looking at everyones pics of their lo's too! Can't believe that about half of us now have our los. Looking forward to seeing the rest of the oct ladies over here...

Anyway - hope the rest of you are doing well... Thinking of you all!
