I couldn't find a postnatal thread - not sure if I am just missing it with post-childbirth brain! Anyone else around??

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
greedygreedyguzzler · 15/11/2007 11:17

as for bed i just hold marcy whilst reading to the other two! means they have to share a story when they used to get one each but luckily ds likes sleeping beauty and dd likes the faraway tree so we take it in turns! (i am bored sick of them both!!! - the books not the kids!!!) marcy is pretty chilled really so i guess that helps too!

greedygreedyguzzler · 15/11/2007 11:18

not sure how that came out in two posts!!!! something to do with balancing marcy on my knees whilst posting!!

Stefka · 15/11/2007 12:33

I used to love the faraway tree! That was my fave book as a kid.

J2O · 15/11/2007 13:18

Hi all

congratulations Choc! does that mean Oct thread mummie are complete?

i'm having trouble getting Shannon to latch on properly, don't know if its cos i've introduced a bottle, so feeding time's a bit stressful at the moment, also pretty pi**ed off due to this so i think me being a bit stressed is affecting my milk

try and be back later, going to attempt to wash my hair, wonder if i'll be allowed by lo

missbumpy · 15/11/2007 14:06

Big hugs J20. I'm having problems with my DP too so you have my sympathy. Men can be such twats!

Meanwhile apart from relationship crisis I'm doing ok today. Nips are really sore though. Midwife checked latch on Tues and said it was good so I don't understand why it still hurts. Maybe some people just heve more sensitive nips?

J2O · 15/11/2007 17:30

well he isn't really my dp, and he certainly isn't going to be now, i was practically in labour while he was Sha**ing the other girl, oh well, never mind! re the sensitive nipples, are you sure you haven't got thrush? are your nipples quite red? not sure about the exact symptoms but i think thats what i've got and it really hurts after she's been feeding after about 10 min.

well i've been for my 6 week check and am now officially able to have sex again!! just got to find someone to do it with finally managed to get some baby gaviscon for lo, hopefully she wont be so grumpy with herself now

Stefka · 15/11/2007 18:05

HV came round today to tell me that the clinic won't take me on because I don't live in the right area. I am kind of gutted as I think it would have helped me sort out the problems I am having with feeding. So it's back to the drawing board yet again. I feel like I am hitting my head against a brick wall with this feeding.

Dareh is a bit grumpy today - he is usually fairly happy to sit in his chair while I potter about but he will only settle if I stick him in the sling and carry him. My back is starting to hurt! Still he is happy in there which is the main thing.

missbumpy · 15/11/2007 18:54

J20 - I'm impressed you want to have sex with anyone! I've got a thread going on this on the Childbirth board. I'm dreading having sex again. Not sure if it's a physical thing (scared after the episiotomy) or an emotional thing (DP and I having problems at the moment so I'm not really feeling in the mood for lurve). Good for you if you're up for it though!

Stefka - Sorry the clinic turned you down. Seems a bit harsh. I went to a clinic the other day and the midwife was great and said I'm out of their catchment area but she's got a policy of never turning people away.

My nips are really sore but I don't think I've got thrush. How would I know? What are the symptoms? My only symptom is that my nips get quite sore after a feed. I think DD is just goes for it a bit too hard and I've got quite sensitive skin.

Collywobbles · 15/11/2007 19:15

Hi All - sorry I disappeared for a while, I've been completely absorbed with getting to grips with life with a LO!! He's only 11 days old but it feels like he's been here for months. No one can prepare you for it can they? :0)

We had our first experience with colic yesterday (just when we were starting to get cocky because he'd slept for 5 hours straight 2 nights in a row!) - the midwife has recommened Infacol. Has anyone used this and does it work?

Hope everyone else is doing well - I haven't attempted to try to catch up on everything..

xx

J2O · 15/11/2007 20:32

Colly-i found infacol ok, colief is better but its more messing about!

missb-copied from a website

Thrush on nipples
Breastfeeding mothers may get thrush on the nipples, especially if the nipple is cracked or the baby has thrush in the mouth.
Thrush can stop a cracked nipple from healing.
Sometimes thrush can be on the surface of the nipple even when the nipple is not cracked. Thrush might cause reddening, tenderness and moistness of the nipple and areola (dark area around the nipple).
Thrush may cause shooting pains when feeding and pain in the breast after feeds. Research has not clearly shown that thrush is the cause of these pains.
If you are having pain when feeding or you have a cracked nipple that is slow to heal, talk to your doctor or breastfeeding adviser.
If you need treatment, your doctor will usually give you treatment for the baby as well.

think the idea of sex is a lot more appealing than the actual act! went most of my pg without it, and am shi**ing myself after the episiotomy too, also, finding someone i feel ok doing it with for the first time is a bit scary. sorry your having a hard time with dp {{{hugs}}}

ejt1764 · 15/11/2007 20:44

congratulations choc

missbumpy - the sore nips after a feed sound like thrush to me ... can you let the water run on them when you're in the shower? are the ends of your nips dayglo pink? if yes, then it's probably thrush ... you can use canesten cream on your nips, but go to your gp and get her to prescribe you some, and some stuff for lo ...

j20 - big hugs to you babe - to be honest, he sounds like a c0ck! what a pillock!

I was up at 1, 3, 5 and 6.30 last night - dh had done the feed at 10.30, and she took loads ... I made dh get up to help me though, as I fell asleep while I was feeding Mairwen, and almost suffocated her with my boob - it was her wriggling that woke me up ... and they say that co-sleeping is dangerous!

I'm going to give it another week or so then introduce a formula feed last thing at night, so that should keep her going longer through the night ...

Now we're all popped (I think), can we do a quick roll-call? Baby brain means I keep forgetting who had what, how and when ... I'll start:

name - baby born - boy / girl - baby name - weight at birth - type of birth - child number - anything else you can think of

ejt1764 - 1/10/07 - girl - Mairwen - 6lb12oz - water vbac - child number 2, also have ds, who's 5 - still exclusively bf, but may introduce formula soon!

ejt1764 · 15/11/2007 20:46

oh, and I haven't attempted sex yet either ... having a 2nd degree tear means that I've been a bit wary! However, I've let it be known to dh that I'm up for it if he plies me with enough wine! I've also bought myself some new knickers! tee hee ...

alicet · 15/11/2007 21:28

Greedy thanks for the rassurance and tips about bed / bath! You must be superwoman to manage it with 3!! Sam (ds1) is only 21 months so not sure I would fancy putting him and Adam in the bath together but then maybe I should try it - as long as I have a good hold and can yank him out of harms way if Sam gets over excited then it would probably be fine!

J20 - left a message on your other thread. Big hugs xxx

Hello and hugs to everyone else. Sorry so many people are still having a tough time with the bf. You are better women than me who has jacked it in for formula! Good luck to you all.

We had a pretty good day again - out for lunch with mum dad and sis (and Adam obviously - Sam at nursery today) and then sis and I went shopping before a physio appt I had this pm about my rodgered stomach muscles - they are slowly knitting together but I need to go back in a month. Another benefit of ff. Off to bed now - Adam has been pretty unsettled this evening so we had dinner in shifts - Sis is with him now so will go help...

J2O · 15/11/2007 21:32

ejt well done on still exclusively bf, i introduced a ff after about 4 wks and i'm starting to give her more, esp the last few days she's been having a growth spurt.

ejt1764 - 1/10/07 - girl - Mairwen - 6lb12oz - water vbac - child number 2, also have ds, who's 5 - still exclusively bf, but may introduce formula soon!

Cross posted ejt...

Would like to buy nice new knicks but unless I wear truely ENORMOUS sexless ones they rub on my scar. Not painful but a bit uncomfortable.... Dh texted me today though to say he's blanked out his diary for next friday pm so he can come home early for a bit of action. looking forward to it except that Adam is bound to be wide awake and up for a play!! We'll see!

Roll call a fab idea too - I've added myself in...

Oh no, starting to worry about thrush now The tips are quite pink and tender but there's no moistness.

One is definitely worse than other. I'll go back to b/f group on Tues and ask midwife what she thinks.

My baby details to add on...

Hi ladies

Been camping out at the hospital for a few days as we have major building work going on in the apartments above and next door. Izzak hates the drilling so had a crap day on Tuesday which is when I decided to make the most of my hospital apps. It helps that my hospital is more like a hotel and two of my Bangkok bump buddies now have bouncing baby girls so I've been visiting them too.

Had a blocked milk duct which my doctor lanced under local anaesthetic. Yesterday had accupuncture for my bad back - she also did stuff to help my BP come down and my womb to heal... This point in in my ankle and it hurt like hell - didn't feel some of the other needles though.

Today I am viewing another house - we can't live with the building work as its disrupting us too much. Hopfully this one will be great (DH loves it - he's just waiting for the OK from me!)

Generally feeling OK and under control but have SO much help and support from my nanny - I'm sure my speedy recovery from c-section is partly down to her. She's keeping the house under control, I'm caring for my little boy but able to rest without abadoning him.

Jo

Hi all, have added myslef to stats.

Haven't read through all of posts as find it hard to find the time for anything atm

Had a meltdown day on wed as I have a urinary infection and tried using a cystitis remedy but found you couldn;t b/f after taking it, tried to express milk but coldn;t put the pump together properly and then flipped. Dh came home from work as was becoming engorged, had to pick Ollie up from school after crying most of the day so looked like death warmed up with big boobs.

Once I'd got the milk out things were better and went to the drs and are now on antibiotics and can b/f again.

I now go to bed a t 8pm, dh gives Henry a bottle at 10pm which means I can sleep from 8 - 2 ish which is lovely. Dh is a little bored but it's not for long and it means I can get through the days -especially with Ollie being 'interesting' It also measn that Henry now sleeps half the night in his own bed which is a plus too.

B/f again in public yesterday -at the gym- while dh played tennis. Short outing to have lunch but felt really chuffed with myself.

Are now going to try to read all the posts
hope you are all well
