Hi All,

Thought I’d just start a December 2019 babies thread for those who have given birth in December and want to catchup/chat/rant/need support etc.

We are 11 days in...!
How is everyone doing?

Yes mine has started screeching for attention the last few days
I might have found a solution to calming tantrums tho . The last 2 times he's had a meltdown for no reason I've made him do tummy time and he forgets why he was kicking off and stops

Fivebyfive2 · 14/05/2020 19:53

@Comps83, we found something similar... We put him down and strip him off, he absolutely loves being in the nip! He can go from distraught to delighted almost instantly 😂

AliceTheCamelHasFiveHumps · 16/05/2020 19:43

Can anybody else’s baby not roll over yet?

Fivebyfive2 · 16/05/2020 19:55

@AliceTheCamelHasFiveHumps, Joe can do front to back but not back to front. I think it really varies though, some don't do it until 6 or 7 months according to things I've read. Xx

Comps83 · 17/05/2020 12:28

This high pitched squealing is awful . I had to take pain killers for the headache it gave me yday
Ds can only roll over into his side and back

jpaws · 18/05/2020 07:22

My baby can't roll yet either. He gets very frustrated with it and tries a lot. We haven't had squealing yet, occasional shout but nothing high pitched. His new trick is slamming his feet down. Can hear him from downstairs without the monitor he does it that hard.

AliceTheCamelHasFiveHumps · 18/05/2020 07:31

Oh yes, DD does the leg slam! 😂

jpaws · 18/05/2020 09:32

5am this morning wake up leg slam call haha. I even tried padding the bottom bit of the cot but he did it harder! Totally happy with himself at that time. Early wake up for us as he just didn't settle with the teething yesterday afternoon so I had to put him to bed an hour earlier than usual. Again today so far he is not happy with his mouth so has had some calpol to try and help him. Think I am in for another long noisey day of it. Will try to get him out for a walk in a bit.

AliceTheCamelHasFiveHumps · 19/05/2020 08:39

sleep.

how are yours for daytime naps? mine used to be good in her cot during the day -piut her down, within a few minutes of silence or a little whinge and maybe sucking her thumb, she'd be asleep.

Now?? nope....she only sleeps without meltdowns in the pram on walks, in the car or on someone.

If I lay her down in the cot, she'll either immediately start crying, or whinge and then cry... if I put her down after falling asleep on me.... crying ensues.

I put her in there after 75-90 minutes of awake time (before she gets tired,)nope, she coos and gurgles.... then starts whinging.... then crying...

how can i get her to sleep in the travel cot without the tears?
i have tried a dummy for a few days, but doesn't help, as she spits it out.
Tried sitting next to cot so shge can see me.
have tried leaving room.

how long should i persevere?

Her nightime sleep is golden - she's always soundo within minutes of being put down. (thank goodness)

Comps83 · 19/05/2020 08:55

Honestly my baby just naps when he wants to
There's absolutely no getting him to sleep if he's not in the mood

Teamthree · 19/05/2020 10:09

@AliceTheCamelHasFiveHumps have you tried extending the awake time a little bit? My LG goes 1 hour 45- 2 hours awake now, apart from the first nap of the day which is only an hour awake, and is still falling asleep well by herself in the day (for now!) and I'd consider her a sleepy baby.

AliceTheCamelHasFiveHumps · 20/05/2020 07:34

I can try, sure

I did consider putting her in her bed upstairs and drawing the blind. But I'm so scared of "breaking" her perfect night time sleep! It's luxurious to have her sleep 11-12+ hours self settling if she wakes.

Teamthree · 20/05/2020 18:44

@AliceTheCamelHasFiveHumps I completely understand that fear, I have always been the same. But if she can self settle then I really don't think you can break night time. Especially as I've always read that babies treat naps and night sleep very differently in their head. My LG has all her naps in her cot upstairs in the dark with white noise just like bedtime and I think that works best for her. She knows the drill so well now that she nearly always yawns when we reach the top of the stairs on the way to bed 😂 could be worth a shot if you're struggling?

jpaws · 21/05/2020 08:43

My lo has now decided waking up at 5am is acceptable. He is perfectly happy to slam his feet down in his cot and occupy himself for a while but it always wakes me up ha. Don't think the light mornings are helping at all in this situation. I've got blinds and curtains but it doesn't stop the light completely. Not gonna lie, it has hit me hard again - I've been so tired and unable to have a nap through the day when he does as just haven't been able to shut down. Yesterday I did manage a nap though, I think because I was so tired, and had an hour. Felt amazing. I'm hoping he stretches it out until 6ish again at least soon as I can cope with that. Madness what difference an hour makes!

AliceTheCamelHasFiveHumps · 21/05/2020 09:48

yes, mine is waking an hour earlier too -a round 6-6:15. I might put some foil around the edges of the windows, where the blackout blind doens't quite 'reach'

AliceTheCamelHasFiveHumps · 21/05/2020 09:53

@jpjaws yes, it's mad, i'm SO tired recently....DH 'helpfully' suggested that I just go back to bed for a few hours (as he walked out of the door for work!) - I asked him, who is going to keep an eye on DD? His suggestion? "just put her in her cot" Hmm .... Oh yes, of cours,e it's that easy, just leave the 5 month old in a cot for a few hours whilst I sleep 😐😐😐

forevercurious · 21/05/2020 21:11

I can’t believe they’re going to be 6 months soon, it’s gone so fast! Yes DS now has the highest pitch squeal and happily rolls from his back to his side, hasnt mastered back to front yet but can go front to back but doesn’t very often. He also enjoys slamming his legs down in his crib!

He hasn’t been a fan on this heat the past couple of days, how’s everyone else coping with it?

jpaws · 22/05/2020 16:43

@AliceTheCamelHasFiveHumps sometimes OHs just have no idea lol. It would be lovely if they played happily for an hour or two so we could have a nap haha.
My LO is 5month tomorrow. Can't believe I've been off work for 6 months already though (had holidays before). Really can't imagine going back to work and leaving him with someone else. Thankfully don't have to think of it for a while yet.

Comps83 · 22/05/2020 17:14

Is/ when is everyone going back to work?

Fivebyfive2 · 22/05/2020 17:19

@forevercurious, Joe is the same with rolling! How is sleep going for you? It's still pretty bad here ☹️ Keep hoping it will improve, ever the optimist!! Xx

Fivebyfive2 · 22/05/2020 17:21

@Comps83, I'm returning in Dec but if I play it right with holiday etc I can be part time until about Feb and just build my hours up gradually. Already dreading it!! X

jpaws · 22/05/2020 17:50

@Comps83 my leave doesn't end until December then have holidays to use so wont be until the new year at earliest.

forevercurious · 22/05/2020 17:58

@Fivebyfive2 it had started to slowly improve the past couple of weeks - up 2/3 times but then we’ve had 3 or 4 bad nights again so I’m just not sure! I’ve given up on the sleep programme it was completely stressing me out so we’re now just going with the flow and I’m trying to stop worrying over it all! but it’s hard to do that! sorry to hear you’re still struggling too.

I was originally going to be returning to work in September, however I’m fairly sure I’m going to extend it until December, I should then have enough holiday to cover December and go back in January. However I don’t think they’ll let me return part time so I may not be going back at all which is a scary thought!

Comps83 · 22/05/2020 17:59

Mine ends December too . Can't actually remember when but I'll use holiday so I don't have to go back til January
I emailed some nurseries but only got a reply from 1 so far

popgoesperfection · 22/05/2020 19:43

@Fivebyfive2 I feel your pain, sleep is very hit and miss (missing more than hitting 🙈) here! We have a pretty good routine following his lead but no two nights are the same. I'm due back September and dreading it already!
