Hi All,

Thought I’d just start a December 2019 babies thread for those who have given birth in December and want to catchup/chat/rant/need support etc.

We are 11 days in...!
How is everyone doing?

what do your little ones "play" with in the day?

mine likes anything crinkly - so gets receipts to hold 😂
also she likes her dangly playmat for abit, and she has a winkel toy and a few teething kind of toys.

she's got excellent head control, so am cosidering popping her in a door bouncer soon

Fivebyfive2 · 29/04/2020 15:04

@AliceTheCamelHasFiveHumps, Joe loves the crinklyness too!! He also likes his teething keys and 'chatting' to his Teddy. We might get a jumperoo type thing for him, still looking into it. To be honest he happiest when rolling around on his mat in the nip, babbling away 😂

forevercurious · 29/04/2020 18:10

Glad you’re all doing well :) Unfortunately our sleep situation remains the same, he is still up every 2 hours. Some days it really gets me down and I worry it’s taking its toll on my mental health. But then other days I just think it’s the way he is and we will get there eventually. This isolation is also not helping!

Toy wise he loves a foil blanket, great for those who have said their babies like crinkly things! we drape it over his play mat and put his disco light in there to create a sensory den. He also loves his door bouncer and swing in the garden. We’ve also painted a few times.

Fivebyfive2 · 29/04/2020 18:56

@forevercurious, the sleep thing is so hard. Joe is mostly OK in the evening, but through the night it's like Russian Roulette! Some nights are golden, one short wake up between 7 and 6. Others he is up every 2 hours between 11 and 5. We even have nights where he's asleep at 7.30, wakes anytime between 11 and 1 and will be wide awake for almost 2 hours?!! I try really hard not to compare, but can't help it sometimes. We have a rough routine, he naps in the day etc... It's like 'what are we doing wrong?!' But it's just how some babies are I think. Hopefully soon we'll both be able to say things are better. On the plus side it sounds like you have lots if fun together!! The foil mat and disco lights have inspired me 😀

forevercurious · 29/04/2020 19:20

@fivebyfive2 it really is so hard and I know completely what you mean about wondering what you’ve done wrong. I feel like I’m always wondering what I can do to ‘fix’ it. It sounds tough for you never knowing what type of night you’re in for!

popgoesperfection · 29/04/2020 20:49

Hi, glad your all well. @AliceTheCamelHasFiveHumps that sleep sounds amazing !! I've forgotten what it's like to sleep like that !! We're more like you @Fivebyfive2 some nights not too bad, others up every 2 hour then there's the up for 2 hours in the middle of the night. It's tough!! Oooh @forevercurious that disco ball/foul mat idea is genius !!! Definitely pinching that one, Thankyou!!

AliceTheCamelHasFiveHumps · 29/04/2020 20:57

the sensory den sounds like fun @forevercurious

we don't do aything like that #boringmum

does watching me cook and hang the washing out count a sensory fun??? LOL

Teamthree · 30/04/2020 09:30

Holly's had two naps already today, so that's how our day is going 😂

popgoesperfection · 30/04/2020 12:41

Same here @Teamthree almost ready for nap number 3 😴

Fivebyfive2 · 30/04/2020 14:14

@popgoesperfection @forevercurious, honestly it's just so nice to know it's not just us with the crazy sleep! Latest mystery... How is it he can sleep through having a Coughing fit that included me practically throwing him on my shoulder, but if I geeeeentlyyy put him in bed like he's a bomb about to detonate, he is instantly awake as if I've chucked cold water on him?!! 🤔

popgoesperfection · 30/04/2020 21:04

Oh yes @Fivebyfive2 I completely agree, it is like putting a grenade down without setting it off ... dear god don't blow up !! 🙀

Fivebyfive2 · 01/05/2020 10:55

Well we had a bit of a night! Joe still has a cough and blocked nose and last night kept waking himself Coughing and was quite wheezy. Called 111 just to be safe. After 3 separate people calling us back, we were told to go to A&E to be safe! It was sooooo quiet there, a bit eerie! Paediatrics saw him straight away. His temp was OK, chest is clear so we just need to watch him closely and take him back if he gets worse. They didn't mention corona while they were checking him over.

Dr at good hope was great, she said if his chest wasn't clear they might keep him in because of how he sounded. But when it was clear, she was happy to send us home. She was very understanding, said without listening to his chest there was no way to know what it was, so we were right to bring him in.

On the plus side, it's Friday and yesterday I won an eBay bid for a jumperoo!!

How is everyone today? Xxx

forevercurious · 01/05/2020 14:51

@Fivebyfive2 Oh gosh bless you that must have been worrying for you! How is he in himself today?

We’re doing ok thankyou, although I think teething is starting to affect him!

GrannyClanger · 02/05/2020 20:02

Hi all,

Haven’t been on for a bit. Sleepwise we’re up and down too, although I still sleep with T in the bed with me. I’ve been really stressing about it lately, but whenever we try to put him down anywhere else he won’t sleep for more than 30 minutes. I just don’t have the energy to try and force him into it either! Will probably try again soon, because I really could do with some down time in the evenings! At the moment T sleeps on and off in his rocker chair until I take him up to bed. Feels like every other baby in my NCT group is a great sleeper, although I’m sure that’s not the case!

GrannyClanger · 02/05/2020 20:02

@Fivebyfive2 Glad your little one is ok, it’s such a worry having to take them to A&E!

jpaws · 05/05/2020 09:59

Hi everyone

Hope the sleeping is getting better for everyone and hope Joe is okay @Fivebyfive2, that must have been scary for you all.

Last week or so we seem to have settled back down into a really good sleep pattern. He goes to bed usually around 7:30 and sometimes drops off straight away but sometimes it may take up to half an hour. Then he sleeps all night (!!!) and usually stirs around 5:30/6 but I just pop his dummy in and he sleeps again until around 7, sometimes only until 6:30 but I feel that is more reasonable. I reeeeally hope I haven't just jinxed him haha. Only downside is that we don't have a baby monitor yet so when I put him down for the night I either stay up there with him or am constantly up and down checking on him.
Through the day he usually has 4 naps, two short ones in the morning and then a longer one early afternoon and then a shorter one again about 4-4:30.
He has also started chatting more to us which is so cute Grin

AliceTheCamelHasFiveHumps · 05/05/2020 11:51

@jpaws - your night soudns like ours. except she will be asleep within 5-10 minutes. but i keep her up 'reading' until she starts making these grunty noises, then straightinto duvetbag and bed - i lie there next to her until she sleeps. but she's so liad back, i doubt id have to be there!
But i feel itbest to stay until she's asleep for now. not sure why.
anyway - then i go go downstaiars for a while, and potter, read, spend time with DH etc.

it's so nice to have that time back. i know wer're suposed to stay with them, but i'd be spending 1.5-2hrs sitting around in the dark otherwise....

she naps for 30 minutes 4 times in the day - with around 1h45-2hr betwen those naps.

I am sooooooooooooo lucky!!!

jpaws · 05/05/2020 12:31

@AliceTheCamelHasFiveHumps they sound so similar!
I know what you mean about leaving them, its really weird. I can manage about an hour n half tops before I'm like right I need to go up and stay up there. Seems silly but, even though I know he is just asleep, I'm afraid of not being there with him without a monitor in case something happens. 9PM is a reasonable adult bed time though surely haha. I've just started with a book with him, it's in black and white, just pictures of animals. He Pat's the pages occasionally but would much rather put it in his mouth I think.

Comps83 · 09/05/2020 17:51

@fivebyfive2 how is your baby?
I'm really worried as ds has developed a cough
He seems totally fine is every other way apart from the cough
Dh and I both feel fine and none of us have a temperature
I think I'm going to look into getting tested tomorrow which we should be able to as dh is a keyworker

Fivebyfive2 · 09/05/2020 19:46

@Comps83, he's doing better thanks, still got a slight snuffle but he only coughs now when he's worked up. No temp or anything. I hope your little one is feeling better soon, I think there's a few things going around at the moment xxx

Comps83 · 09/05/2020 19:53

I have a feeling it might be hay fever . Neither dh or I have ever had it. I don't think we have the virus but as we are eligible to get tested then I think we should
We're booked in for tomorrow

AliceTheCamelHasFiveHumps · 14/05/2020 14:21

Has anyone else's baby discovered they can scream? 😩

Fivebyfive2 · 14/05/2020 14:33

@AliceTheCamelHasFiveHumps, when he's over tired he can go nuclear, but we've noticed more that he now has a 'I'm sad' noise! Not screaming, or even proper crying, just like a warble kind of noise. It usually means he wants a cuddle! But when he does go nuclear.... Omfg!!! Genuinely worried what the neighbours must think sometimes 😮

Still no rolling from back to front, but he does try to do a (slightly feeble!) commando crawl and his sitting is gradually improving.

AliceTheCamelHasFiveHumps · 14/05/2020 14:55

this is a high pitchd scream, goes straight through me >.< escpially as i have toothache...
no rolling here at all... well. she can half roll over from back to front... but its more that she lifts her legs and if they fall to obe side she's rolls that way. front to back, no where near. she kind of does a half push up...but not really...

popgoesperfection · 14/05/2020 16:03

Yes definitely found his erm 'voice' the pitch is just deafening!! He's rolling all over the place too to get to what he want, bit if a suprise as ds1 was more 7 -8 months when he finally mastered rolling !!!
